yeah that size would have been for driving large lags into cross-arms very very cool! US made.

Yeah those cross arms are ,or used to be made of teak wood. Very tough and heavy. It would take a heavy built tool wo withstand the torque and a few drops...I have flipped a few over the years. I never pass on one if I see it.

Got all this for $55 the other day. Got two of those old metal craftsman tool boxes in the deal and filled them with tools.

At first I want to say that's a great idea.. But alas--its really a scam and I'm surely being positioned atop a soapbox here--but I don't think you're the only one to do this, resulting in China-man tools now.. Rather than Craftsman.. Getting a ****** beat up piece, then obtaining a new one.. Are you re-selling them, or just hoarding them like you say?

Here is a summation of the Craftsman warranty:

Most Craftsman hand tools are advertised as having an unlimited lifetime warranty. This lifetime warranty program was instituted by Sears when they began selling the Craftsman line in 1927. This warranty program requires no receipt or dated proof of purchase. If the owner takes the item into a local retail store, it may be replaced or repaired free of charge. In some cases, such as ratchets, the customer may be offered a repair kit with which to repair the item or an already refurbished item.

The full text of the warranty is as follows:

"If for any reason your Craftsman hand tool ever fails to provide complete satisfaction, return it to any Sears store or other Craftsman outlet in the United States for free repair or replacement. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state."

A scam is defined as "fraud".

Please explain how this person, or anyone else for that matter, is engaging in fraud by purchasing broken tools and returning them under warranty?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I call BS.

The only part of your argument I agree with is the comment on what he's getting in return - Chinese made junk!

I finally got around to sorting out the tools I got at my ReStore adventures last week. My daughter had a late basketball game ~80 miles from home. It was too far to drive home from work and drive to the game than to find something to do for a few hours before the game, so I mapped out a plan to hit a couple of Habitat ReStore and Goodwill thrift stores. In no praticular order, here are pix of everything I purchased on Tuesday afternoon. Total spent: $43

Pic 1: New Britain, Excellite, and Stanley nut drivers, proto screwdriver, Ford dealership, Stanley and unknown nail punches, KD screw extractor.

Pic 2: Stanley rasp, KD and Channel Lock wire crimpers

Pic 3 & 4: Indestro 1451 socket set (sans hex drive)

Pic 5: Lufkin and Disston tape measures, Blue Point and Vaco nut drivers, SK, Mac, and Proto screwdrivers, Allen T-handle hex wrench, Craftsman jewelry tweezers, Barcalo DBE, German side cutters, Crescent "Bell system" wire cutters, unknown (home-made?) wire cutters, Vchek tappet wrench, Craftsman, Barcalo, and Indestro combination wrenches, Barcalo DOE wrench, unknown USA-made hex drive wrench, Misc US-made sockets.

Pic 6: 3 Heritage era 1/2 drive Craftsman sockets, 3 Snap-on 1/4 drive sockets, 1/4 drive "Firestone" socket, 2 x 3/8 drive =v= and 1 -vv- Craftsman sockets, Craftsman 1/2 drive deep =v= socket, 1/2 drive Williams socket, 1/4 drive Husky and proto sockets

Pic 7: Oxwall ignition wrench set, unkown scissors, Capewell hammer

Call my response BS all you want.. You can really read that warrantee statement however you want--but if you see that process as being the reason for which that warrantee was created--well then I can see you and I have completely different points of view in this universe.. No point in you creating a bicker-fest here... I'm quite certain however that Craftsman nor any other tool manufacturer intended their warrantees to apply this way...

Not tools in the strictest sense, but the Strat Squier and amp were out on trash day down the street. Just needed strings and a patch cord.
The Washburn in the background was a $15 church rummage sale find and is in great shape.

Found out an interesting and inventive neighbor is moving and he let me have a look around his place. Looked like an antique store, the Home Depot, and electronics repair shop all exploded in his house. He's big on everything but automotive, and priced this box with all the tools at an affordable $10 for me.

What's inside: Mostly cheap sockets, few USA.

Some good tools, some no name. Williams 3/8" Superratchet, Armstrong 1/4" ratchet, Proto 3/8 breaker bar, Craftsman t bar and 3/8" extensions, Westward 1/2" import ratchet, Continental 1/2" import breaker bar. Brake tool, battery cleaner.

Only other thing I grabbed was this little anvil. He said 2, uh, give me $1. Couldn't complain.

Up here everyone I have taken down (oldest was 1947) has been Douglas-Fir(extremely stout) it's amazing how well they weather being 50 years old. They make great material for furniture. Teak ones would be awesome.

Hey how did i do on these sets today? I bought these at a pawn shop for $5 each today one is a snap on drill/ screw extractor set and the other is a mac tools drill piece set both are missing pieces. I thought these even with the missing pieces are worth $10 because of the quality and the name!

Found this while cleaning out the Gerstner. It was under the cardboard in one of the drawers. Leads me to believe the cardboard was there since day one. You think they will still honor the price for a cover? [emoji12]

Can you imagine the recommendation of using gasoline today? At least they added not to store near a open flame. It's so interesting how simple things were back then.

Yes sir! Back in the good ol' days when men were men, sheep were nervous, and everything was flammable?

TY! The ironic thing is that I don't know how to play guitar but I can repair minor things and tune them up. The hilarious thing was dragging home the Strat, amp, cord, and guitar stand while I had 2 dog on leashes. The dogs did not appreciate the tangled mess.

Forgot to add the pic for the inside of the snap on drill extractor set it is missing 4 pieces. I thought thought i would take a shot for $5 each because i liked the cases but with the missing pieces i didn't think they would be worth much.

Btw the pawn shop has this sk tools #1815 metric wrench set on sale for $30 it is missing two of the wrenches in the middle i think 11 and 15. The roll was beat up but the wrenches were nice but they won't budge on price for another month. Is it worth $30 with the two wrenches missing?

If you need a decent wrench set, then yes. The two largest wrenches would cost you close to that $30 or more with shipping off of ebay. If you're buying to flip, then probably not. There wouldn't be much of a profit unless you find the missing wrenches for cheap. If I didn't already have a complete metric set of wrenches (or 3) I'd pay that.

Reversepolarity, Looks to be a Blackhawk 151 drain plug wrench:

http://alloy-artifacts.org/totw_blackhawk_151.html

I can't believe that guitar and amp were at the curb. Some up and coming rocker on the way to band practice probably set them there while he went back in the house for something .

I stopped at a pawn shop last week (twice) and was pleased with their selection of tools. I spent about 30 mins each visit and came up with the following items for a total of $70

Pic 2: 5 1/2" Craftsman ratchets, 1 Plomb pebble ratchet

Pic 3 The whole lot, Including a Fairmont body hammer (not pictured by itself)

Pic 4: Plomb wrenches

Pic 5: Plomb WF 3/8 drive breaker bar and extension

Pic 6: Plomb Los Angeles DOE

Pic 7: Vintage Craftsman tappet wrenches

While my last post had some nice items, but not at super deals, the next deal was straight-up lucky.

I answered a CL ad for a "couple of toolboxes with tools". I saw the Craftsman "Rally" box and thought I'd take a chance.

Here are the CL photos.

Pic 1: Older Chinese 1/2" drive socket set with breaker bar. No ratchet.

Expecting all chinese tools, I set my expectation low. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find TWO Craftsman rally boxes and TWO cheap metal toolboxes. I took a brief look, paid the man $25 for the entire lot, and left with my spoils.

Here are the boxes. If nothing else, the two Rally boxes are worth the trip across town for my $25!

Box 1: The "Titan" box. Not bad at all! It contained a small pile of vintage =v= and -vv- 1/4", 3/8", & 1/2" drive Craftsman sockets, vintage Craftsman wrenches, an Indestro 1/4" ratchet, and a pile of misc chinese wrenches and sockets. The BP hammer is US made, but I can't identify it.

Not a bad start. So far, my $25 has paid for a few tool boxes and some decent vintage Craftsman tools!

Next toolbox is a cheap box similar to what my mother used to keep around the house when I was a kid. The box is worthless, but the contents ... look for yourself!

Next post - a break down of the contents of this box.

Pic 1: Misc 1/2" drive sockets. Snap-on, Proto, Blackhawk, Williams.

Pic 2: 3/8" drive deep sockets: Snap-on, Mac, Craftsman, and one with "AC-USA" and a stamped clover in a circle. Anyone know what brand that is?

Pic 3: Matco 3/8" drive impact standard and deep woobly sockets.

Pic 4: Snap-on 1/4" drive deep standard and metric sockets

Pic 5: Torx and Matco Hex sockets, S-K 3/8" to 1/4" reducer, Snap-on screwdriver sockets, Proto sockets.

I ran out of time and never got to open the Craftsman Rally boxes yesterday. Well, I peaked, but that was it. I hope to find some time to sift through them this weekend.

Old Armstrong knurling tool with three sets of wheels. I think this might be a little too heavy duty for my tiny Sherline lathe
