And by the way where is Norka Ohio I use to deliver down in southern ohio ad never remember Norka. Or is it up north.

It's Akron, backwards lol

From Epstein these 3 ratchets are $158 granted new locking flex are 88t, but Epstein's website says the 3/8 isn't in stock. I already have a 60t 10-994, I really only wanted the 3/8 so the other 2 will probably end up for sale. Or I might keep them. Lol

Well then I guess we are rather neighbors then. I lived in Firestone Park for 20yrs. Then we moved out to Jackson Township 16 years ago.

It's not a bad area, I really like Akron, just hate the winter. Update: just sold 1/4 and 1/2 ratchets for $60 so $30 3/8 locking flex

Still snowing here in this part of the country, Only sales are estate sales and they are packed with people who have cabin fever, Plus the prices are jacked up because they are the only show in town.

I've been meaning to replace my lawn mower since it's pretty cobbled together (no throttle, no choke, rusted deck, but it still starts on the second pull!). Found a Honda self propelled on CL last night, guy was moving out. He also had a string trimmer but I didn't recognize the name (redmax) at all. Turns out it's a decent commercial brand. Both new within the past two years. Still not sure how well I did, I paid 175 for both.

ShadowRuleZ:

You paid less than 1/2 just for the Honda, given what I paid for a new one late last Summer.

You did well, especially when the trimmer is added to the deal.

MSRP on the mower was 570 (HRR216) and 350 on the trimmer so I did good compared to retail, just not sure what the used market looks like. :dunno: Not much out there yet to compare to with it being cold and snowy.

It's looking very thin this weekend. One sale in the morning which means lots of competition. I hit the only sale today after work and there wasn't much left . I managed an old Arrow claw hammer with the original handle and two heavy bladed carpet/linoleum knives with wood handles all for 2 bucks...

I had a phone call this afternoon from a friend who asked me to PLEASE go get a small two-drawer chest that just appeared on C/L, as he was working and didn't want to miss this item. Well, I did, and while I was there, I picked up a vintage 18" Starrett combo square, vintage drill index, minty Stanley push drill with all the bits in the handle, and a jewelers screwdriver set in a small plastic container.

I'm told that I can have any or all content in the drawers.

Went to Cathlamet Washington for a tool sale. The guy had a nice stash of dismantled band saws, table saws, drill presses, he even had a printing press. Lots of commercial tools and vises.

This is my haul for the day. My wife scored the wooden boxes and the guy dumped out the lathe bits for someone else to pick up.

View media item 57776
The band saw bases were 15 bucks apiece they are just a nice slab of wood away from being end tables.

Bag all that stuff from the drawers up and hand it to him saying "Gee thanks! I really appreciate you letting me have these drawers for going and getting you the contents!

Hit a few sales today.
First one had a lot of tools but most well used. Started going through a bucket of ratchets and other socket drive tools, found a few items, asked him how much for a few I had picked out, he said how about $40 for the whole bucket. Sold!

Craftsman Pic 1:
1/4" drive early open gear Circle H, early patent pending V quick release teardrop and a tri-wing.
3/8" Sears (not Craftsman) made in Japan one with a decent ratchet action, RHFT that is a bit ugly but works nice, teardrop with oil hole, Circle H breaker bar and a V speed handle.
1/2" T-handle, teardrop and a torque wrench

Other brands
Pic 2
Action open gear ratchet
Fleet 1/4 and 3/8 breaker bars
Husky 1/4" ratchet, 1/2" speed handle and breaker bar
Mac 1/2"
Powerkraft 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets

Pic 3
Plomb breaker
Proto Two 3/8" ratchets, long and short handle 1/2" and Challenger flex 3/8"
S-K Two 3/8", two 1/2" and one 3/4" round head ratchets

Pic 4
Snap On crusty 3/8" ratchet and 1/2" breaker
Thorsen one 3/8 normal, 2 3/8" open gear, 3/8" speed handle, two 1/2" ratchets, a crusty breaker bar and a beam torque wrench
Williams 2 S-52 1/2" ratchets, speed handle and a T-bar

Other goodies from this sale, paid $8 for all
2 Ford 1934 Tootsietoy hot rods, 2 new wire brushes, Craftsman Crown chalk line reel and a large Proto flat tip screwdriver

Stopped at an antique store and found this Wilton 9350SJ bullet with swivel jaw and base. Has a chip out of it so I got it for 20% off, $104.26 total with tax. More pictures later in the vise thread.

After lunch hit one last sale. Spent $14 on this stuff.
Brown and Sharpe V-block, various Stanley, Craftsman and Proto stuff. Screwball ratchet driver. And two vintage padlocks I will have to take a better picture of for Jeff Moss!

OK maybe with all the rain the drought is ending, and today was semi normal, although I did go WAY out of my normal range for one estate sale, but the thing that got me out there was gone... It was the second day and it had been sold the day before.

"It" was a tiny wood stove. It may have been a salesman's sample( the estate sale folks theory) but I think it was a Toy stove made to look like the real thing with real cast iron. :dunno: My daughter said "It's a Victorian EZ-Bake-Oven

attachment.php

I asked and they sold it for $50  That box next to it was a VERY old Pacific "C" press for reloading one die adn some parts, but it gives a sense of scale...

I did get this stuff from them:

A NOS No. 23 brass Aladdin Kerosene lamp missing the glass chimney. (never used by LOT of "shelf wear"

attachment.php

A Stanley Sweet Heart driver, Plvmb Bearing Scraper, US made REI candle lantern, a really old Coleman No. 0 Filter funnel that may be copper, and the beveled glass box. $15 all

attachment.php

A very LARGE pair of the Sargent Parallel jaw plier/cutters (The Pair I have is less than 1/2 this size....), A Goodell Pratt Glass cutter with 6 cutter wheels on a bigger wheel (back side) and a March 31 1896 Pat. date, Plvmb Combo wrench, an tiny jewelers hammer No 22, marked England and one other thing I haven't been able to make out, and a made in Germany 4" wire wheel. $9

attachment.php

An estate sale, where I was about to look into a two drawer tool box, and a guy got his hand on it, closed it and took the whole damn thing... :dunno: Any was other boxes had these:

SK & Proto sockets and one orphan, Modified Proto pebble hammer wrench, Plvmb wrench adn brake tool bonney breaker, hinsddale DBE, Blue point mini pry bar, Gordon Whitworth, indestro, tru fit DBE.s adn a Taiwan thst I thought was going to be a Proto or plvmb... $5 all

attachment.php

And a singleton wood handled No 2 Phillips marked made in USA, and Phillips Lic, and a couple of patents, but no maker :dunno: It was free "Just take it.)

Saw a listing for a moving sale and with it being only sale in my area on Saturday, decided to stop over. Nice people, but the old tools had been given to grandchildren in advance of sale, so ended up buying a wire wheel for a drill.

As driving back home in empty truck, spotted a light duty workbench with a small foreign made vise on the curb. Went back and talked to owners that turned out to be a couple guys who buy a home a year, clean/fix it up, then resell to help on retirement income.

They ok'd me getting the curb find, but I heard them mention they needed to move an old chest freezer. So, offered my help and we got that moved to curb as well. They didn't have any old tools that came with house, but did mention they had one they needed to move a few months off and took my name.

Then as leaving, they mentioned a Daisy bb gun and although not old with simulated wood handles, it still would shoot.

When got home, told wife about bb gun and offered her chance to shoot, which she did by hitting the taget dead center (i.e. a bucket on hand pump).

So you know who has bragging rights for now.

Pic 1 is workbench with vise along with warped particle board top. Last pic is with particle board top removed and will be on lookout for 3/4" thick piece of plywood around 36"W by 20" D to put a replacement top on it.

Pic 2 is Taiwan 3-1/2 vise.

Pic 3 and 4 is Daisy Model 840 BB gun with plastic simulated wood handles and made in Rogers Arkansas.

It was tough sledding today but I know it would be given the lack of sales. The "BOSS" came with me today so I ended up with some items out of the norm for me. We hit 3 small sales , one estate and one antique shop. We spent about $150.00 including lunch so I'll be hard pressed making that up but it was a good outing with my wife. She rarely comes along so I had to treat her well.:pimpflash

Snap-on ratchet wrench set-1953
Miller Falls tool holder/ pin vise - with all 9 tools
A nice pair of leather ring Eastwing 8 oz. ballpeen and curved claw hammers !!
A pair of cigar boxes- Don Tomas & Macanudo
Coke salt & pepper shakers
Vintage porcelain covered piss pot...
concreate bird bath
Red Devil putty knife
Octo-Grip 8" screw driver
lil' 1/4"finger tip ratchet set- Too keep in my crane , Things are starting to rattle lose running up and down the road.
8" Crescent
What I thought was a Penncraft 3/8 socket set turned out to be a mix of S-K and Penncraft in a nice Penncraft box.
Stainless steel leatherman type tool. Maybe one of the best made tools I've seen stamped made in china :eyecrazy:
7 Piece set Pyrex w/ carrier. NIB
Main nut from a vise :dunno: It was free and could save one some where so couldn't leave it. I asked where the rest was...lol

Outlaw tell me if you have seen one of these. Model 10 Phoenix vise. This is the largest one of their vise's I have come across. 3" jaws and opens 3-1/2" ,the base is slotted so it can swivel on a through the bench bolt . The bolt was missing but the wing nut was there. This one's a keeper!

Cool lil brass hammer with a lead head
And finally two pairs of surgical pliers. One pair is a very sharp pair of dike style pliers that are built incredibly well and the other I think are for setting staples? Looks like hog ring pliers but have similar construction as the dikes. They came from a Dr.'s estate. Made in Germany

Hit an auction today and finally got a knee mill.

Interesting, does the quill on the drill press downfeed? Because it sure looks like the quill rack is turned 180 degrees from the pinion downfeed shaft/handle. :headscrat:

Redmax is better than a decent commercial brand. They make top notch equipment. In 20 years landscaping all I've used is redmax backpacks and trimmers. I've tried others but they don't compare imo.

Picked up this bench mount Workmate 79-020 for $15 today. Seems to be unused, all the small parts were still in the plastic.

You mean by power? No. But it does go down about 7 inches. Odd thing is the rack teeth are on the front and the back. Although it only appears to use the back set. I like the fact table is on a knee like a mill. Can't wait to get them home.

Yeah It's the George Colton patent of 16 june 1885. Most of the unmarked ones I've ever come across like this one I call Phoenix ... HB and Colton usually have there name on there's .
I have just never seen one so large. Every one I've had or seen before were bench clamp or a combination clamp/screw.. Just how big were these made? Or what's the largest you have seen? :dunno:
