Got out yesterday to two swaps and an estate sale:

Complete set of Crafty -V- sockets in case, MAC ignition pliers, Snappy rat that needs rebuild kit, SpeedMaster rat by Pennens (have a socket set for that), most of a Williams 3/8 set (I have a rat for that, now I need 3/8 and 11/16s and a box) and Crafty drill sharpener and dado set.

At the swap some guy was selling a lot of nice complete sets of things, all good industrial brands like Fluke in case, full set of Proto wrenches to 2", all with paint on the cases that was still tacky. I thought about it for about 5 seconds and walked away. Don't need stolen items...

Oh ya, also got a ton of old good bicycle parts cheap, for projects.

Too cold here for me to chase down any estate sales. But I have found a few goodies from local auctions and CL.
Purchased this 5 hp Campbell Hausfield compressor at auction a couple weeks ago. Got it home and plugged in the wall and it works great. Runs quiet and pumped up pressure. Come spring weather I'll give it a complete service and tighten all fittings, drain the tank, etc. $55
IMG_2496.jpg

Picked up this beauty today. Still researching it's vintage but I loosely date it to the late 60's or early 70's Bennett pump made here in Michigan by the John Wood Company. Love the Super M and Premium inserts. And Marathon being a local brand is a plus to me as well. I probably paid the high end for it at $200 but the price started at $500 and dropped from there. It's just in need of a good cleaning but all glass is intact and the paint and stainless/aluminum trim is there and in good shape. I won't have to buy much to restore it and that saves total cost. Now I gotta get busy this summer and build a garage to display this in front.

Took my $1 ratchet to Sears to try and get a rebuild kit. Instead the guy pulls out a refurbished -v- ratchet and says "It's just a different style, if you don't mind that." Nope. Not at all.

Nice find on that press! What is the size channel as used for the working table, and what is the width of the uprights post to post?

It's 6 feet tall not including the motor and the other stuff up top, 40" wide. I think the channel used for the entire thing is 8-10" wide, it's beefy! Any idea what kind of hydraulic oil to throw in?

Cruel and inhumane punishment is what I went through on the sale I was at.
I forgot to mention they only had a fraction of the old tools out to sell and wanted to show what is coming up in about a month. They didn't have room or time to sort and set out. I asked if I could just take a peek. No dice.
Anyway here is some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Been lurking on here for awhile but this is my first post. I recognized from your pics that I was at the same sale this weekend (I live in FM). Picked up a few things but most of it was overpriced. Looking forward to the next one when they go though that last section.

That Foote-Burt drill press looks in great condition.

Only saw one posted up on Vintage Machinery and doesn't seem to have all the nice things you have on yours. See link to it below.

http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=18375

Love to see more pics and if you get a chance, a short video to see how it operates.

Finally got the machines home. After dismantling everything my brother-in-law and I were not able to get them out of the basement even with the help of the auctioneers nephew. Luckily he new a local that would move everything out of the basement and deliver it to my doorstep for 200 bucks. Ended up giving him an extra tip since it took six of them to muscle the mill casting and drill press out. To cold to start cleaning but got some of the grime off.

As promised here are pics and a video of the DP running. (Beer for scale)

Some really good stuff in here, I decided to post a bunch of deals I got since the start of 2016 in no particular order. I consider all of them to have been decent deals although none a total steal. Fortunately 2016 ain't over yet!

- Snap On SAE impact socket sets, complete and brand new. 1/2" shallow/deep, 3/8" shallow/deep and 1/4" shallow 12pt. 200 CAD/145 USD

- 3 Snap On pliers, 90 CAD/ 65 USD

- Snap On vintage screwdriver hard handle set (only 3 used lightly, rest are new), stubby Snap On 1/2" hard handle vintage ratchet like new, Blue Point bit set (never used), Blue Point set of 4 bushing knockers and a Snap On rubber mat for the top of a tool box to be used as drawer liners - 100 CAD / 70 USD

- Snap On nut driver set of 7, 3/16 to 3/8. The smallest 2 are the carbon fibre shaft 1000v insulated versions. 60 CAD / 45 USD

- Snap On Pit 160 1/2" impact driver with 7/32, 1/4 and 3/8 (x2) to 1/2 hex sockets - 40 CAD / 30 USD

- last 2 pictures are a mix of sockets and wrenches. No complete set of wrenches but there were 6 MAC angle head wrenches over 1", a bunch of large Gray wrenches over 1", some smaller gray wrenches, a bunch of random older MAC wrenches, a couple of Snap On wrenches, all the chrome sockets with the exception of the 12pt deeps in the top right corner of the picture are MAC and 3 of those sets are complete (not pictured complete, found some sockets after), SK crowfoot set, the black impacts are Snap On and some are over 1". 200 CAD / 145 USD

Since our economy went down the drain, I had to put the US prices there too since most of you are American.

Glad to see some like mined people in this town.

Yes, I agree on the stuff being overpriced. I look forward to the other half.

Maybe we can meet up, don't know of many other GJer's around here.

Guess I need to be careful of any pre sale info that I post up!:lol_hitti

Thanks for showing more pics of the Foote-Burt drill press, plus the video showing it in operation.

Here's the vid.

That is one impressive operating/sounding machine with Captains Wheel that smoothly raises/lowers the spindle.

BTW, understand about getting things out of basement, as I and seller moved a antique kiln out of a basement couple weeks back. Found out afterwards that it was originally lowered into basement with horse/pulley when house was being built in 1912. For us, we had neither pulley or horse.

The front cover is under the bottom drawer. Edit: Didn't see your later post.

Maybe you can still get one from Kennedy, but it might cost you the same as the box.

I have the same box. I got mine at a pawn shop in L.A. (when I lived there) for $40 including tools, but mine had a Snap On QR ratchet, a Craftsman Germany vernier caliper, adjustables, Allen keys etc. and a similar bunch of machinist's tools. Unfortunately, this machinist (who worked at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach) didn't know how to replace the lock, so he drilled the box haphazardly for a hasp.

Picked this Napa Evercraft slide hammer kit for $25 dollars on craigslist! I think i did pretty good since i saw some sold on ebay for $50 plus $50 shipping. Also he said he is getting rid of a bunch of tools but needs to organize them so i gave him my cell phone number and told him to call me when he gets them ready so could lead to a great lot of tools!

Got this farm fresh Whitney angle iron metal shear at an auction this morning for $65.
Looks to be complete with original curved blade (?). No cracks just a lot of rust.

Struck out today. I'm assuming Rickster cleaned the place out so I'm waiting to see him post the haul. Maybe he got the decimals equivalent chart I wanted and wants to sell it me, wink wink nudge nudge.

Picked up this Proto folding knife today for $10 plus tax at an antique store. Judging by the Professional Tools logo it's 1980's era. I like the raised tools on the back. See the combo wrench in the middle? It has raised Proto lettering on it as well! I had to find a stronger light source to see it, thought I would need a magnifying glass!

Picked up this Norton abrasives Norbide stick today for $3. They are made of sintered boron carbide, used to dress grinding wheels. New on Amazon they are $88. Don't think I did too bad.

Edit: 3/16"x1/2"x3"

Nothing much today. I was #4 and went straight to the garage.... should have gone to the basement. Cman 2 drawer toolbox with a Williams 1/2dr set I passed on. By the time the realization of my wrong turn sunk in and I made it downstairs to the basement work room there were guys swarming all over the place.

A local bowling alley closed up and they auctioned off the lanes among many other items. I couldn't go to the auction but a buddy of mine did. 32 lanes they went for 10.00 bucks a lane! The catch you had to remove them in two days. He bought 2 lanes and gave me a 10 slab for helping him . We had both lanes out in various lengths in about an hour tonight after work. This will be a bench top in my new shop to come this year with any luck!

In case any of us should fall upon a deal like you had, can you describe what you had to do to remove the bowling lanes?

Top: i've bowled for a lot of years and actually helped one of my friends in the back a few times, but never ever seen pictures like you just posted. WOW that is some great wood to have for a bench. i'm also curious what you had to do to remove them.

A local bowling alley ...

This will be a bench top in my new shop to come this year with any luck!

What kind of wood is it?

The lanes that I've bowled on over the years have had maple for the approach and first ~10' of the lane. After that it's yellow pine.

Maple would be the holy grail, but yellow pine would be useful too.
