Got this super long craftsman axe for $6! I saw they had a lot of axes in that box from the pics but this was all that was left probably because of how big it is! Don't know what i will do with it but for $6 it was a great deal just wish the rest were there oh well!

Not an ax. It's a Maul. The sharp end is for splitting wood, and the blunt end Is for driving wedges when having to split larger rounds.

I am pretty sure that is A SPLITTING MAUL. Not an axe still a good deal.

Thanks everybody...sort of won the lottery this week and now I have to figure out where to put everything. I'm going to pick up the rest tomorrow and may have some more pictures of the stuff...not expecting anything else as this guy is extremely generous but you never know.

So i have probably no use for it in the mechanic world?

For a maul, I wouldn't think so. But that begs the question, what were you planning to use an axe for in the mechanic world? :scared:

A mechanic tought be a trick with a axe and hammer to get off stubborn wheel bearing hubs. But this one i don't know just seemed cool for $6 this think was probably 50 dollars plus new.

Got this black and Decker drill for $10! I thought this was really cool with the medal case and all the attachments and original paperwork. I don't know if i will use it but for $10 it was too cool to pass up!

That is a sweet looking B&D drill and the case and supplies are icing on the cake.

Got this duracraft body hammer kit for $7.50! I only got it because it was upside down and on the floor or it would of probably sold! It is brand new and made it Taiwan and not in china like a lot of them online are!

That body hammer and dolly set looks like it was never used.

They had a lot of vintage craftsmen power tools but i really didn't need them. The only reason i got this was because it was complete with the cool medal case. The drill works still just tested it.

Yeah a lot of the tools there were brand new and never used or not that much. I think he was a tool collector like a lot of us are. Most of the tools were **** sets but i picked out a few gems in the lot. I think the drill set is my best fined followed by the body hammer kit! Still have not hit it big like some of you guys finding snap on tools but hoping that will change when more sales open up this spring.

Wooo Hooo! =CRAFTSMAN= scores at an estate sale this morning 1/2" 3/8" and 1/4" all represented, but no 1/4" ratchet. A nice nut splitter that I've wanted for a long time, set of ignition wrenches, and a non- Craftsman ( but Peterson!) Vise Grip 10R. My first flying V ratchet too! Check out the price stickers . . .What a day!

That is cool. Nice find. I don't collect power tools either but I'd rather have that than a $10 bill.

Another nice find today: Audels book number 1 for $1.50. Wish all of them were there, but I'll take what I got and be thankfull. My favorite philosophical statement is printed on one of the first pages.

The Audel's guides are great, I'm lucky to have the complete set of Carpenters and Builders Guide books (4 vols.) - copyright on my set is 1923.

Another cool set are the Hawkin's Electrical Guides --interesting to see how electricity was handled at the turn of the last century.

Finally got the machines home. After dismantling everything my brother-in-law and I were not able to get them out of the basement even with the help of the auctioneers nephew. Luckily he new a local that would move everything out of the basement and deliver it to my doorstep for 200 bucks. Ended up giving him an extra tip since it took six of them to muscle the mill casting and drill press out. To cold to start cleaning but got some of the grime off.

As promised here are pics and a video of the DP running. (Beer for scale)

BlueBomb: Wow, that drill press is a beauty.

ALL: i picked up this huge (and heavy) Lyon lazy susan type rotating bins. some of the fins (about 8 inches high) are bent and i need to bend them straight after cleaning them up. any thoughts on how to bend the fins straight again would be appreciated. i've never done body work on a car, but i have pounded on a few pieces of iron. i probably have a few flat headed hammers and some steel plate and small inch or 2 inch square pieces to pound against, but no dolleys.

anybody else own one of these? it's missing most of the pegs and not exactly sure what the best way to load the bearings and washers in between the bins is so speak up if you have ideas or information. i'll post more pictures as i can if anybody is interested.

thanks

TOP: did i read that right that your bowling alley wood was 50 pounds a foot and you were cutting pieces in 16 foot lengths? if so wouldn't that be 800 pounds for 2 old guys to carry or did i mistake feet for inches? do you have any pictures of the piece(s) you were able to take home and make a bench out of later?

Saturday morning used to be about cartoons and pancakes. Now it's about waiting in line for an estate sale and finding old tools in the garage. Snagged a Williams "Blue Banner" hacksaw for $2, and an old Stanley #4 bench plane for $18. I think I'll go to IHOP now.

Drives you need a round, slightly convex planishing hammer (body hammer) and a smooth dolly (could be a steel plate, but make sure it is SMOOTH) to do the best job on the flat plates.

be a bit careful on loading as too lopsided a load and they won't want to spin well, and you could bend the trays.

Not quite a tool but I'm gonna use it for, got a 6 1/2 inch cast iron skillet for $5. It's an import though. I'm going to use it for melting lead.

Only ONE planned stop (a family run Estate sale) where I got there maybe 5 min late to get an 18 drawer parts bin, (Blue paint over OD green) and a match for 1/2 the drawers on one of my current parts bins.

Not al was a miss though:

Tools:
Dasco Pry bar, P&C chisel, Pipe clamp, Toledo Tap handle, Snips with Cloverleaf tradmark, and faint markings that start OLL… - the cloverleaf might be Belknap?;

I found 33 Glass blocks; sixteen 12 x 12 and seventeen 6 X 6 :

And the guy let me borrow his Wheelbarrow to move them and after loading the first load, the tire is flat...

So I looked for a tire pump and found this with no Hose, and then we found the hose, so I fixed it on the spot good enough for that tire...

I said I liked that pump (old but actually in great shape internally despite almost 0 paint...) And he said to "take it!" :D

and a TOO near my house and I got 3 pr xmas Earrings for SWMBO (Not pictured), 2 glass Candle sticks for small candles (which I have a ton of), and a mini Brass Quail and spitoon. $4 all

Well, it took four of us to remove the lumber (almost all black walnut) from the house and load it onto the truck. The lumber was listed in an on-line auction, and I know that this forum is about garage items, but I figured some of you might like to see the loot. All the wood costs less than $100.00 including two boards of curly maple that are about 18" wide.

Preparing to unload into my garage.

One of my friends who is over 6' tall holding a 2" thick slab of walnut.

Finally, one of the curly maple boards - the other is the same size and is immediately behind.

Other items that came home with me were four small bench vises, three small anvils, box of woodworking planes, box of violin-makers hand tools, and possibly others - I'll have to wait for another day to post those.

I talked SWMBO into going out to a nearby sale one town over after lunch. Lots of household chaff in the upstairs and basement, but in the basement I found a small work bench with some overpriced premarked tools. I scrounged around for these unmarked bubbas and negotiated all three for five bucks.

12" McKaig-Hatch adjustable with deep PO name engraved
Kraeuter Supreme 1841-6 lineman pliers
Craftsman crowntop folding shovel with plastic case

Best part was learning that the sale company had to put stuff in storage, to include a bunch of vintage tools, to make room for this sale and that they'd be having another in a few weeks. I will definitely come out of "retirement" to check that one out!

BF that is an incredible "yousuckbigtime" score! Well Done!

Also we are not a particular about source, other than in-store new items, (there's another thread for that)

$100? Surely thou sucketh! Nice score. If that maple is curly all the way through, you can veneer drawer faces until 2020.

A small pile of misc for $9:

P1060309.jpg

Elec. Chainsaw $5 and "feedbag" $3:

P1060311.jpg

Dremel flex shaft kit $3:

P1060312.jpg

This was from a Sunday only sale last weekend. I asked the guy how much and he said $2!! I grabbed as fast as I could. It's the real deal from the 1950's vs a fake. All I need is the other glass.

P1060316.jpg

Color wheel ($.50). Now just need to find an aluminum X-mas tree.

I thought about trying to get out to that one, but the ad didn't look too encouraging and it's a little far for me so I ended up sitting at home instead. Maybe I'll be seeing you on the 2nd go-around.

Jake: the one in Littleton, right? BOLO for the next advert, for sure.

BB, you mean to tell me you were retired?[emoji38]
I think I'm going thru withdrawal symptoms--I keep daydreaming of hand fulls of DBE wrenches...

I hit the best estate sale of the year so far for me any way. also slipped into a farm equipment auction. I love these because all the small tool stuff goes first and I don't have to hang out all day. in and out in 40 min. A new personal best. Score two post vise and a jack they through in and beet feet.
The estate sale was the brother of an auctioneer so there was tons of stuff , box after box to dig through . I'll go back to this one tomorrow !
I spent 37.50 at the auction on the jack and 2 post vise, and 121.00 at the estate.

There's a ton to just list but the high lights are ;
Indian Chief 5-1/4 90 pound post vise
3-3/4" unknown maker post vise.
American Red seal 64 4-1/2" vise
5 mixed makers wing nut "C" clamps
Carpenter box with lots of stuff
Pen vise & bench clamp swivel base vise
Pair of hatchets
Ram Tool co bench grinder
Craftsman Long C miter for a 1930's table saw- I know some one will want this!
"SQUANGLE".... Made by the Mayes Bros. Tool Co.
Oxwall 1/4" socket set with box & 1/4Wizard ratchet- not sure if the ratchet belongs or not but it's a neat lil' set
Tackle box and fishing pole-zebco 33 classic for the grandson
Bull nose pliers
wood chisels , squares and angle finders
Texas Star-Cast iron
CB & Q RR scoop shovel
lots of others small tools.

Edit: Having trouble loading pic's .

BB's in denial, only he doesn't' realize that's just a river in Egypt! ;)

What's making it easier to stay retired is the sparsity of tools in the estate sale ads around here.

I hit the best estate sale of the year so far for me any way.

The estate sale was the brother of an auctioneer so there was tons of stuff , box after box to dig through.

Apparently all the honey holes are down in Missouri--congrats, Topop!

No, I was thinking you went to Dracut.
Littleton, damn, that's going to be a stretch. I'll have to see if I can make arraignments when it comes around.

Well, we'll see what the pictures look like. What he called "old tools" may be a pile of old rusty DOEs or even worse, rusty Taiwan **** that just looks old.

As I said, we'll see.
