You guys are killing it!
And here I am with one old Craftsman pipe threader. Not sure that I'll ever have a use for it at 3/4-14NPT, but at a buck, I thought it was neat. Looks like the Patent (#1656596) was filed in 1923! by REED Mfg.

That is neat. I think I have the whole set. They were made by Reed. I think my set is newer though. 1950's but still made by Reed. They came with a carry case and all. If I get off this job some time this month I picture up the complete set.

I have them too Topop, mine is a lil newer than yours though with a Crown Top logo on the carry tray. I have about 6-7 pieces along with the handle and tray.

Rick, "Driver" was also a line Sears sold pre-Craftsman. I'll have to check early catalogs when I have some time. Time frame for the "brand was at least 1925-31

Yes, you are correct. The die inserts fit into a carry tray that the handle goes through. The dies plug into the handle and a set screw keeps them tight.

Here's my set. I was wrong. It's an older long "C" version . Going to use it to thread pipe for air lines in my shop. I picked it up last year before I posted here on the garage sale thread I think.

Armstrong 1-7/8"
Williams 1-7/8"
Wright 1-1/2"
Wright 1-1/4"
Armstrong 1-11/16"

A Rambling Post

...... Trying to express a thought that's been wandering in my head for a while now ..........

I've seen a few posts in this thread, as well as the previous years threads, where a member felt they needed to wait until they had a find that was "worthy" in order to post. Every time I read this sentiment, I feel a bit sad.

From the very beginning of the Garage Sale threads (started before I joined the site), I never felt that a watermark was in effect, or even implied. This was (and is) just a place for the members to show off the things they've picked up during their weekly wanderings. Sometimes we crow, sometimes we commiserate, but all the time - we share.

ALL of your finds are worthy, no matter how large, small, expensive, or cheap. We just like to see what's out there to be saved from oblivion.

I like seeing what others are able to dig up, and I especially love reading the stories that go with the adventure when the details are included. Sharing the story is one of the reasons why my own posts tend to be long.

For myself, not only do I post in order to brag about a really good find that I'm excited about, but I also post mundane finds and share my failures because I feel it's important to show that not every venture to a sale is going to be sunshine and roses. You can't appreciate a rainbow unless you first get rain.
[end rambling]

Donert - Great find on those larger wrenches. I don't see 1+ inch sizes often (I've been spending BIG BUCKS on eBay filling out the large end of a Williams set over time), and never at the prices you paid.

This should be a huge sale with a lot of guys coming early since it is mostly a tool sale! Will probably get there at 6:30 am i just hope there not overpriced and wasting my time.

https://www.estatesales.net/MN/Long-Lake/55356/1126161

If that sale was in my area, you'd have to get there by 5am, and you still might not be the first one in the door.

I see some great stuff in those pics.
The DP, bandsaw, pre-block grinder. The toolbox stack should be good (check the year), but the tool station (with the Cman chevron logo) would be on my short list.

Looking forward to seeing your report on how things went. :willy_nil

Very well stated! I agree that we are all best served when we are able to see what people are finding out there - and what people are honestly paying for those items. Congratulations are not necessarily warranted, but it does feel nice to be acknowledged.

So please, everyone, post away!

Speaking of which, nice wrenches Donnert! That's big money

I am not seeing stuff that would make me really excited to get there that early but they said they have tools by the boatload so there is probably more then just in the pics! Might pick up the craftsman bottom box with the black door depends on price. I can see a couple prices on the tools in the pics and they don't look crazy high so this might be a good sale to score some deals if i get there early.

Not that I need them, but I'm working on a full up set of Williams triple line combo wrenches (OCD don'cha know). It's unlikely that I'll run into the larger sizes at estate or yard sales. I have almost all up to 2" and am now looking for 2+", if they were made in the triple line. I've seen some on eBay, but either price, shipping, condition, or a combo of those makes me pass for now. When available I've been picking up one or two a month, but it's been slowing down as the sizes go up.
Still looking for affordable good examples of :

1182 1-11/16"
1184 1-3/4"

1191 2-1/16
1192 2-1/8"
1193 2-3/16"

1195 2-3/8"
1197 2-1/2"
1198 2-5/8"
1199 3"

I think they only went up to the 1194 2-1/4" until SnapOn took over and switched to a single line logo (and made the wrenches shorter as well). :dunno:

JAKE - Well said! It's not always about the haul, but the sale experience you had. Most sales are an experience one way or another.

Here's my $12 estate sale tool lot today. Not much in tools there but I found these in an unopened plastic tub inside a cabinet, and the wrecking bar in the cab also. I wasn't one of the first in so happy to find some stuff.

Stanley wrecking bar
Craftsman pruner
Vise Grip
Craftsman adjustable box
Ridgid Pipe wrench

Also a 69 Mercury Owner's Manual. If anybody's interested in doing some trading around for the manual let me know.

I try not to post as much because I end up selling 7/8 of what I buy, but I do post what I plan on keeping. Though my latest obsession with larger tools, I'll be posting a lot.

Well said Jake!

Btw, I'm looking for Williams triple stripe combos in sizes 1-3/8" and larger. And i have a newer single stripe in 1-5/8" if anyone collects that style.

No kidding... I showed up at a sale that had a huge collection old radio's and juke boxes. The sale started on a Monday . There were collectors in line on Saturday.. That was this January... Thank goodness they were after radio's and not tools...

Awesome set Topop, way cooler than mine.

Joe, you ****!

Thanks Nine! I bought it from a guy that retired from our local gas company. He had 10 bucks on it but I was late to the sale and it was one of the last tools left and he gave it to me for 2 bucks. I assured him it was going to a good home!. It's a keeper not a flip.

That's where i draw the line. There is no way i would stand in line for 2 days for a estate sale that is just insane!

This is part of a deal with Merc, we're doing some horse trading and I got this cool Craftsman shaper in the first pic, the motor mount, pulley and NOS hold downs for it in the second pic along with a couple Williams pieces to add to my collection. I also got some map cabinets from him that I posted in the metal cabinets thread along with my projects thread as I built them in to a work station for my machinist tooling a few days ago.

I've picked up a few things this week at a couple different locales.

First up is my very first Craftsman block grinder. I answered an ad on CL that simply said "Bench grinder for sale - $30". It's missing a couple of pieces, but was well worth the asking price.

Second up is a set of Craftsman miter clamps and a Brinks & cotton 8" C clamp I picked up at Goodwill for $4/ea.

Next up is a Stanley "Surform" no. 296 wood handle rasp and a "whammer" nail gun - $4

Excelite screwdriver set and a pair of M. Klein & Sons lineman's pliers with amber grips - $1/ea at a junk store. I've seen these pliers before, but never with amber grips. Perhaps someone could shed some light?

Brian

Re: A Rambling Post

Ditto what Jake said. As a frustrated creative writer myself, I like to write about and read about the stories behind the finds, big or small. The picture of the Left-handed Widget Extender and a "Got it for $5" may earn some "You *****!", but the tale of digging through a pile of Ladies Home Journals and old Tupperware to find it hidden away on the bottom shelf at the back of the pantry on day three of a three day estate sale, while fighting off the affections of the three hundred pound farmer's daughter--now that makes for a great read.

Of course, even if there is no story, and it's just a hand full of screwdrivers at a flea market, post any way.
I try not to post as much because I end up selling 7/8 of what I buy, but I do post what I plan on keeping. Though my latest obsession with larger tools, I'll be posting a lot.
Rick: don't let that stop you! When I was sale-ing a lot, I was an unabashed flipper. Still am, if I come across a good deal. If you are worried about revealing your purchase price, don't include the price (some folks here do that). However, because I sell on Ebay or locally on Craigslist, I never worry about someone on GJ seeing my cost and using it against me.

Cheers, all, and post away!
