BB I'm considering getting more serious about old wrenches. I never really work to complete sets but just buy them cheap. Sockets pretty much the same thing. I can feel the wallet getting even lighter as I type.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm resisting the temptation to buy rare wrenches for top dollar on Ebay. That's what I want others to do with my sales. I like to pick them up for about a dollar apiece.

The season is starting slowly around these parts, and our "extended winter" weather may e keeping folks from having sales. Still looking around for my first pick. Soon..... very soon...

Rolled down to Syracuse this morning through a pretty decent spring snowstorm, I-81 had a couple inches on it in spots. Stopped in at the flea market and spent $6 on a few books. I've been wanting to learn more about grinding to help further my design work at the dayjob so when I saw the Norton ABC series in great condition along with a few other old references I couldnt resist. The wife was happy I was able to control myself otherwise and not end up with anymore excess, so we stopped on the way home for a couple hours fishing together.

A few garage sales this weekend, and a few other stops - yielded these finds:

pic 1: all for $10, included some foreign junk that is not in the pic that I already tossed into the donation bin for H4H. Stuff I kept:

bottle opener marked "Lucky Lager Age-Dated Beer", 8-in Crescent wrench, genuine Vise-Grips, S&K 1/4-inch breaker bar, two screwdrivers (Stanley and Rosco shorty), Craftsman 1/4-in socket driver, Utica duckbill needle-nose, large ball-peen hammer (no markings), a razor knife scraper, and a measuring tool (old, but no markings I can see).

pic 2: both for $5, two US made oilers, one with a flex nozzle, the other is damn near new condition with nice paint!

pic 3: stop at the local Goodwill scored both these for $6, a Stanley hand plane, barely used, and a Stanley 6-inch bar clamp.

pic 4: all for $6, the Florida 1970s license plate taking up half that amount, the rest on an old Coke bottle (also 1970s), and two camping tongs used for picking hot plate and pots off the stove, one marked "CANADA" the other has the FDL of the Boy Scouts on the side. Both tongs are aluminum.

pic 5: all for $4, included 5 wrenches (2 Fairmount DOE, 1 Williams "S" wrench, 1 unmarked water pump wrench, and an adjustable 9-inch auto wrench), Husky USA socket, a T-bar style 1/2-inch driver missing the bar, Allen wrench marked Craftsman, 6 tiny nutdrivers and screwdrivers (4 are Vaco, 2 Xcelite), and the most interesting thing, a "CBS Hytron Twin Pin Straightener", used to straighten out the pins on vacuum tubes; one side is 8-pin, the other 10-pin.

Pic 6: closeup of the pin straightener

I think that was also me. I picked one up a couple weeks ago and now came across this one.

You're right. I now need a matching aluminum Xmas tree!!

Hit a moving sale just up the road from us. Had a lot of over priced word working equipment and a '72 Vette I wanted to look at. The Vette was 19K, incomplete with bad wiring. I passed. I did grab a $5 4" Craftsman vise and a $2 dollar pile of silverware.
The vise had some broken jaws. Not a problem. I'll make some soft jaws for it out of aluminum.

The pile of silverware.

And what I made with it when I got home.
A sea turtle...

And a dragonfly...

Thanks for looking.

Loving it! That would be a big hit at flea markets! Thanks for sharing

Yes it does!

3Bay, is the Heller pipe wrench a 6"? If so that is the first one I've seen that small.

Pics of the trailer I picked up. it wil be a bit of a project to save the tent adn it looks line one edge at least had serious rot...

Beyond that, the tires/wheels, replacing at least the exposed wires, and general cleanup, not a lot to deal with. My Plan to reverse axle position on the springs will be a bigger deal.

If the tent is completely toast and unrepeatable, I'll consider one of two options. just removal and scraping it, or possibly, making a new one. it looks like it would unfold into an 80 X 48-50" tent/bed. I just recently bought the newer TentCot double wide as the old design would nat easily transport inside my Samurai. (too Big) The new one packs down to 12X12X 44 or so. (The single person TentCot packs about the same length, but even smaller - Got my son one of those for his birthday)

And the rusty pile of tools: I pulled a branding iron (HT), a couple of small adjustable wrenches and a Quick release DP vise that has seen better years, so not shown. Some of the more interesting things: a nasty looking cleaver, used horse shoes, a mold for a flat lead weight, draw knife, tack hammer, splitting maul, shoe repair foot, a hanging scale, and a number of candidates for a "whatsit" thread. I'm definitely going to have to fire up the Etank... More pics of this stuff later,

Today's saves:

"Supplies" and a few tools and whatnot. heavy nails Socket cap screws, a Jar of small rivets, A prototype board, some speaker terminals a couple of ring handles, a can of chain drive link plates, and a bunch of Arrow staples.

attachment.php

The tools" 5" C clamp, old nail puller (1879 and 1881 patent dates) 1/4" Craftsman Diver, and a (2 cup?) Mirro aluminum pot I got on the return stop on the way home ($5 stop 1 .50c Stop 2...)

attachment.php

Another stop got me another Ammo box, a small ax head (W. Germany, 2-1/4 Lbs), a brass finial, a grip staple that I didn't notice until I took pics was missing its "feed" bar... small brass Drawer pull, and an Aluminum Pipe wrench. $10 all

More to come...

Score on the crates of rusty junk! That's my kind of junk!

I was tied down in the flea market all weekend and did have time to hit any sales other than at the market. My only pickup was an old SK 1/2" drives socket set I traded a made in Japan 4" Craftsman vise for that I paid 5 bucks for...2 day net from the sale, sunburn, 750 and a lil breathing room in the old house full I bought last fall.

I hit a garage sale this morning, and even though it was the second day I found some decent stuff. All of the following for $10:

Wilde pry bar 18"

Plomb breaker bar 1/2"

Plomb and Herbrand obstruction wrenches

Snap-on Cotter pin puller CP3A

Birchwood Perma Blue Bottle

IMG_1132 (Medium).JPG IMG_1133 (Medium).jpg

Pretty uncommon to find Plomb in this area.

Picked up 4 buckets full of OEM Honda motorcycle tools, I'm a Harley mechanic so I have no use for them but I know I can flip them for a healthy profit. In with all of them was all of these puller parts. All the jaws are Snap On, along with 3 of the yokes ( including the 16" one ). 3 jaw hub puller is a Wright, the other yokes are USA OTC.

I will be going to this sale tomorrow for the last day. I wish i could of made it the first day tho because there was lot's of tools including vintage craftsman but they are probably gone now. I am sure there is some nice stuff left tho because there was a lot of tools in the ad. This will probably be my only sale i am going to this week i am really trying to cut back on going to estate sales.

If there is no snap ring easily discerned, I'd start with a soak in kerosene or white gas (Coleman fuel/Naphtha)

Brought it to work and tossed it in a cup with enough WD-40 in it to cover the head. Man, a couple spins and it is doing pretty well. Black **** just runs out of it now. Just need to do this a couple more times and find something else to lube it up with.

At the same garage sale I traded my Snap-On KRA-21C hip roof gable tool box, 3 calipers, and some amazon LED lights for this Fuji 29er full suspension bike. It needs new tires and grips and a better seat, but thats it, tuned it up today and it rides great.

Just got this for free on craigslist! Ad just said vintage craftsman box and drawers messed up scrappers free to take. I didn't want it to get scrapped so i texted him for a pic and it looked good so i drove in the pouring rain to pick it up. I can't tell right now how bad the drawers are or if some are missing but it is in great shape and the paint is nice and no rust at all! It looks at least 50's by the wheels but i am not sure either way i think i scored big time on this even tho i have zero space for another tool chest.

Over the weekend I setup my little booth here: www.riantiquesmall.com First foray into selling like this.

While there I found this little guy, a re-badged Palmgren 2.5" angled machinist vise. paid $30.

Then I picked up this Wilton 9300 (dated 2/78) from one of my minions. I pd $135 and posted a single pic, but here are better ones. Originally I thought it was a 3.5"

Lastly, I then I found this George Scherr box for $60 with no front cover.

I am pretty happy today, and nervous at the same time

Cody - It's a late-60's to early-70's (guess) Craftsman Workstation.
It was intended as a base for a DP, Sander, Table Saw, etc. , with multi-configurable drawer/door setup.

I have a 2-drawer and a 3-drawer that I plan to combine into a 5-drawer.
The drawer slides are just flat rails that ride in a channel. They can be a little fussy, even when lubed well. Yours may have skipped the channel, or the fasteners for the channel on the box may have come out. Either way, it should be an easy fix if you're handy.

Yours has the optional locking castor set. Lucky. Step on the lever and the box stands up on the castors to roll. Reset the lever and the box sits down for a stable base.

Nice find.

Yeah craigslist free stuff goes very quickly. I always miss all the tool items that pop up but this one was posted just 10 minutes ago so i texted him right away and i was the first one. I have zero space for it in the garage tho but it is so cool i might keep it in the basement to keep power tools and blades.

If I set up to sell my own items, I'd be like you and probably end up with more items to take home afterwards than what I brought!!!

Good deals on what you bought.

I don't normally go to auctions, but friend convinced me to go to a tools only auction that only runs for about an hour on Tues.

I wouldn't take all of them. I have enough tools I'll never use because I have to buy 5 pounds of junk tools to get the wrench or socket set or ratchet I want at an auction.

I got him down to $100 and we are meeting tomorrow. I tried to get him to go a little lower by taking away the wrench set, screwdrivers, peg holders but he was getting a lot of interest already and he said $100 take it or leave it.
