CKadams,

I would have spent $125 on that last haul any day of the week! If that planer is anywhere near working condition, that is an amazing deal!

So jealous.

Wow Outlaw, that's impressive. It seems my finds run in clusters like this. I have them stacked in my shop, 229#, 218, 152, 120, 80#. I've stubbed my shin on them 3-4 times. They've got to go, and soon. Including my mini anvils I bought 24 this month. 6 large ones. I think I'm done here.:lol_hitti

Picked this up on my way home. Guy was setting up for a tag sale so I stopped and asked what he had. 229# Peter Wright. C+ TOP, good rebound $360.

It must be "Anvil Showers" this month with my 139 pounder I picked up Sunday and your 229 pounder!

My favorite is my 1835 Hill anvil @ 80 lbs.. looks brand new. Then a 111 lb Fisher Norris from 1877. Of course, my anvil I will never sell is my 120lb Hay Budden that looks like it just came from the factory.

picked up these 4 clamps for $40, no big shakes but nice and clean. Anyway one of them is a Proto, which I haven't seen before. Is this uncommon in general or just uncommon for me?

Pawn shop find, I've been looking for a wrench wrap and 3/8 flex head. The flex is Thorsen. The made in India wrenches are going in the loaner box.

What do you guys think about this estate sale next week? You can see all the prices in the ad it looks like pretty decent prices for the stuff. Anything catch your eye i missed? You guys are a lot better at this then me.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/tls/5553809606.html

Well tomorrow is the day for the sale. I am probably going to take a big bag with me and when he opens the sale i am just going to grab all the clamp's, pliers, wrenches, ratchets i see and look at them after they are with me. I won't look like a jerk doing that will i just sliding everything in my bag? Also found this sale no pics of the tools but says man cave tools and craftsman tools so i will hit this one after this one.

Joe, I have 155 C clamps, and exactly NONE say Proto or Plvmb...

So yes, hard to find...

I suspect that those Proto clamps were recalled for a serious defect, and that is why they are so rare, so I'l send you an address to ship it to so It's closer to where it needs to be turned in...

First thing I would grab would be the auger bits.

So not to be sacrilegious about the DBE's, but is there a thread is DOE's? (search did not help me...)

I don't see one either. Why don't you start one? I'd contribute.

There is one, I think NINEs linked it here somewhere.

Edit: NM, I just saw it was the DBE thread he linked.

Whoops this was the thread I was thinking of, close but not right either.

No, he linked back to the DBE thread. AFAIK there is no DOE thread ....... yet.

Hey Guys.....It's been a while since I've posted any of my finds but I'm excited about today's haul.

Picked up a small #426 channel lock pliers for a $1.50 (love those little pliers....got probably 8 or 10 around) not a big deal but then I found a rode hard and put up wet (literally) rusted and un-loved set of snap-on punches for $4.00!!!

PS1.jpg PS2.jpg

The 3/32" size was bent (straightened it pretty good) the 5/32" was mushroomed on top and the rest had a good bit of surface rust and very little pitting.....but, I knew I could bring them back to life

PS3.jpg PS4.jpg

I got started about 2:00 this afternoon and finished up before supper (7:00 pm)
I wired brushed them down to bare metal, ground and sanded any imperfections, and re-blued them with Birchwood-Casey Super Blue, them oiled them up real good with Outters gun oil....now they're good to go! (pliers cleaned up nicely too)

PS5.jpg PS6.jpg PS7.jpg

p.s....the pouch cleaned up nicely also (although a little road worn) but I'll probably make a wooden stand for them and my roll pin punches....

Well they opened it 5 minutes early and a couple of guys got in before me. A guy swooped in and took all the good adjustable wrenches and pliers. The auger bits were overpriced at $30 a set. I walked out with some good stuff still. I got the big clamp marked $5, a long waterloo box for $5 and some misc clamps, pliers, and hex keys.

There's a craigslist sale in Rosemount, retired mechanic, it's not too far from the burnsville sale you mentioned.

Some good deals here! I've been busy with doing maintenance work on a Jaguar, damn plastic timing chain tensioners on the 4.0L was cracking and if I didn't replace them they would take the whole engine out!

I'm finally reaching the end of this project so I might make a outing to the flea market just to walk around, there's estate sales going on but just too far or not interesting enough for me.

Cody, I didn't see where anyone answered your question.

I'm reading you as saying you would grab everything you can and then sort through it and only take what you want. Perhaps it's different in other parts of the country, but around here, if you bag it, box it, carry it around....whatever, you are stating that you intend to buy it. If you do the "grab all and cull later", it's a sure-fire way to get kicked out of the sale and banned from any further sales by that particular company. You will also piss off everyone else who sees you do this and you'll surely hear about it.

Good hunting.

Jreb- that Proto clamp is a beaut. I have a different style old Proto that belonged to my grandfather. Very heavy duty like Williams.

Todays estate sale finds. -$22

About 30 people were waiting to get in the sale. I went hoping to get a Williams ratchet. A not well liked guy got the ratchet, and on it was the S-K 10mm socket from this set. I politely told the guy. He said "What size is it?". 10mm I told him. "Oh, that's a good size, I'm keeping it", he responded with a big grin. Cutthroat I tell you. I'm going to remember that one next time.

This S-K is a partial set. The nice part is it's metric.

Starrett pin vise

Wrenches are Plomb and Tiger Tool.

Cornwell rolling head pry bar.

Old Snap On exhaust chisel.

"Pop" WALKER punch. Kind of neat, never heard the name.

Pipe jaws.

Zippo tape measure.

Did good at the retired mechanic sale too. Got a bucket of vice grips, pliers, craftsman 1/4 ratchet, esc all for $20

I confess I hit that sale right when it opened. Pretty good stuff there, but I am pretty selective now.

I got this electric pole saw for $35. It does work great:
