Looks like you had a good day 3baygarage! There was no sales around here this weekend. I am hoping to have better luck this weekend. There is a estate sale that is having it's last day and has tools so i am going to stop by and see if there is anything left at 50% off day tomorrow!

Mike and BB:

May I suggest that before cutting a long 2X into the two short support 2X's a hole just bigger than the ladder rung be drilled? then after you cut it, you have a nice non slip notch that can't get vibrated off and drop the ladder. you could also put in a 2X spacer, screwed vertically to keep them the width of the ladder so they cant slip to the side or "fall over" to the side.

Basically an "H" with the cross bar higher in the H.

Mike: here are a few more pics showing how I secured the 20-ft ladder in my truck.

If it weren't for the dirt in the bed, I would have nailed the vertical boards to a horizontal base plate with some bracing to keep them vertical.

Good luck!

Yep, if I had it to do again, and more than the five minutes I gave it before departing, I was thinking the same thing (a notch at the top and more bracing). As it was, I only had about 11 miles of side roads to drive to get home.

Astro, Great scores! On the tub pic: what brand are the snips (I think they are snips it almost looks like that have a "head"?), and what is the (brass?) rod looking thing in the lower right on top?

Thanks! I was looking thru the tub when the sale lady said 10 bucks for the whole thing... I reached for 10 bucks and said "Well! I only look stupid..."
The snips are a no name but they work fine. The "brass rod" thing is a big push/pull screwdriver. I have a couple of these now.
This is another pic of stuff that I didn't post earlier.

Thanks for the good advise.

My trip will be longer (50 miles) so securing ladder is important.

The sale today was really not that great. It said lot's of tools but it was mostly Chinese ****. It was 65% off under $50 so i got a few pieces.

1. black and Decker vintage drill $3.50
2. japan ratchet with gator grip socket $35 cents
3. craftsman wrench, usa wrench, usa pliers 25 cents each.

They had a huge parker silver vise marked $95 so it would of been a little under $50 but it was Chinese and i didn't need another vise!

Picked up a lot of stuff this weekend, here and there. Hit a flea on Sat followed by a couple estates sales as there was nothing good showing up on the GS listing for Vacaville:

Proto LA stud puller, Proto LA angle wrenches, Blue Point supreme, most of a Snap on rethreading kit and a set of stair sets for a square.

A Blue Point deep snap ring tool, sparker, unused Stanley sawset and a Large diper pin.

Bonney wrench roll and 1/4 horse motor, whick was $5 as was this:

Inquired with a vendor at a local flea market about blacksmith tools
He told me he had an anvil at home he would sell.
After meeting at his place and negotiating price.
I landed a 123 pound Trenton anvil, warren tool 3/4 fuller, and three pairs of tongs for $225

You ****! Well done.

If I'm not mistaken a 2x3 will fit in the pockets on the bed rail. screw another piece across at what ever height you want and then screw a couple of short pieces across the corners to brace it make one for the front and rear of the bed and your good to go.

I don't seem to come across the types of deals y'all find but this is what I've picked up recently.
Got this like new ranch hand bumper for my dodge diesel for $200. Looks ugly as sin in my opinion but I couldn't pass up a good deal. I'll keep it, run over some stuff and sell it later on.

That's how I made mine, just a a couple of pieces shoved in the corner pockets and a 2x4 to connect them
Yep, for a semi-permanent rack, that's a great way the go. For a 20-ft extension ladder (11-12 ft when fully closed),you could even get away with lowering the tail gate and just letting it stick out with a red flag tied to it. Tied down, of course.

The National Road or Rt 40 Garage Sales kicked off today (June 1), but will be at full tilt on Friday and Saturday.

Bought a working Made in USA 1950's United Clock Corp of Brooklyn NY electric wall pocket watch Model 47. Approx 13" Wide by 17"High by 3" Thick.

Then bought a Precision Garden Seed Planter Model 1001 B by Esmay Products Inc and included 6 individual seed plates along with it.

Not a lot, but it was good to be out and about in the sun.

Here was my Craigslist haul for today... not sure what the bench is actually worth but it needs a good sanding. The Columbian 504 is in excellent shape and a fuller 3 1/2 that could use a new pair of jaws. Overall probably not a steal for $110

Hit a single estate in between job. They claimed tons of tools and there were! But they failed to mention COO... Central this Pittsburg that... All made in china ****. I did manage to find the only quality tool the man owned and a stack of good sand paper. I'm thinking the family members traded out the old timers tools for there HF ****. The owner was a retired TWA wrench and I can't see him going for that junk.
The 15 " auto wrench made by Vlchek was hanging on the side of a cabinet so I'm thinking they missed it. My eagle eye didn't! Sorry about the up close out of focus dang phone is going to drive me crazy.

Oh 6 bucks !

Estatesales.com lists no fewer than 22 estate sales within an 80-mile radius of my house outside of Boston this Saturday. If everyone else's location is similar, I predict a bumper crop of You ***** and other good finds this weekend. I know the late start to summer was holding some folks back, but DAGGUM! Good hunting, everyone!

Now I just have to work out a scheme to get to one of them...

Thumper no need to straighten the tongs, those were made that way.

And the hammers (along with the rest of your collection) needs to find the hammer time thread.

I stopped at a sale that was near my house and because i saw in the ad a Kennedy box. I got all this for $10.

1. Kennedy tool box for $3. I have never seen this type of Kennedy box before so i had to go pick it up. It has broken lock hinges and the top door hinge is bent. I will try to find new hinges and try to straighten the top part out.

2. Usa hand saw, dead blow hammer, Stanley hammer. All $1 each.

3. Truecraft Japan ratchet, Channellock pliers $1 each.

4. Duluth pliers and Challenger pliers $1 each. These are the exact same besides the name so Duluth also made the Challenger Proto pliers. These will go great with my growing Dulth and Challenger collection.

Well done, Toolmaster! The Ridgid pipe threader and dies are worth 2-3 times that by themselves!
