So for the guys that have been watching my compressor shenanigans (I should really make a thread for my goings-on), I picked this up last night, in town, for freeeee :D 30 gallon tank, 3 cylinder dual stage Dayton pump (locked up), no motor. Had to take the pump off to clear the roof of my SUV, pump had to weigh 50 lbs by itself. Also came with 2 Binks USA-made regulators and a water trap. Still haven't figured out how I'm going to unload the tank out of the SUV by myself.

Found a tag on the tank. No wonder it's so heavy, 3/16 wall thickness! Made by Butane Tank Co Los Angeles in 1946  (war surplus?) Hopefully it's still got some good years left in it, because I definitely want to put it to work.

I stopped at a sale that was near my house and because i saw in the ad a Kennedy box. I got all this for $10.

1. Kennedy tool box for $3. I have never seen this type of Kennedy box before so i had to go pick it up. It has broken lock hinges and the top door hinge is bent. I will try to find new hinges and try to straighten the top part out.

2. Usa hand saw, dead blow hammer, Stanley hammer. All $1 each.

3. Truecraft Japan ratchet, Channellock pliers $1 each.

4. Duluth pliers and Challenger pliers $1 each. These are the exact same besides the name so Duluth also made the Challenger Proto pliers. These will go great with my growing Dulth and Challenger collection.

Nice hauls!

I stopped at this sale 40 minutes early but they opened up already. It said in the ad basement full of high quality tools. Guess who was there first the same guy who beats me to every sale and takes all the stuff i want. I walked away with some diamond Duluth pliers, Peterson vise grips, and craftsman speeder, fleet ratchet for $8.50

Hit a thrift store this a.m. and cherry picked these fresh off the truck! Blue point Channel locks and filter wrench, Proto adjustable wrench, craftsman pro screw drivers, etc etc all everything is made in USA and all for 3$

This is the seconds pile, wasn't going to buy it but my dad wanted to go back and check it out. I ended up buying everything here and he didn't get anything lol Highlights are Craftsman hammer drill(works great), Ford brand adjustable wrench, and a US made tack hammer. Everything else is Taiwan and going to be resold. 9$:D

Put a tracker on his car so you know when he starts moving on sale days.

Found some keepers at the Early Bird today.

The soldering iron goes in several wartime upper echelon Ordnance Dept tool-sets, also Signal Corps. And the Duro (X) #2 tappet, too. The Indestro No. 3427 brake spring pliers are post-war, but I couldn’t resist. Ditto with the 1/2-inch drive socket set, PENENS, and the DOE wrenches, also PENENS, which is really the reason I am posting.

I do not collect PENENS and don’t know much about them other than the name and association with Plomb/Proto and what is on AA.

The set includes the following:

- RT-10 12” ratchet
- 1670 18” hinged flex-head (“breaker”) handle, with spinner bar (rare to find in any set, in my experience)
- 1666 8” extension
- Ten (10) sockets, 1634 (1-1/16) through 1616 (1/2), missing the 1618 (9/16), but including a 1625 (25/32).

If it helps, all the sockets have the four-leaf clover mark opposite the indent on the inside wall directly across from one of the drive flats.

Here is a close-up of the markings…

20160603_080920_resized_zpsx1ttwapo.jpg

What I am wondering is... What is the vintage? What did it include? And if it came in a box, what did it look like? With the 1625 (25/32) socket, I am thinking it might be late 1940’s or early 1950’s, and a complete set may have included a 1617 (17/32), 1619 (19/32), 1621 (21/32), and 1631 (31/32). The DOE wrenches are 15/16 x 1, 13/16 x 7/8, 11/16 x 19/32, and 9/16 x 1/2. They look JP Danielson made to me, with the same font JP Danielson used on that era’s CONTROLLED STEEL wrenches, and the same date code format (all 1952 or 1953).

It's very common here for an estate sale that opens at 10 am ,if its loaded with goodies to have street numbers passed out/people waiting to enter by 6 or 7 am. cody, you are gonna have to set your alarm a bit earlier. Also a good tactic for early sales is to bring a cup of coffee the set-up folks.More than once it has gained a "backstage pass"

I bought two tools boxes on Wed. Both full of Cman V code tools and sockets. NO I didn't take pics. But in one of the boxes I found this little Proto wrench that also is stamped BELL SYSTEM. It is in very nice condition.

Here's a link to a similar Fleet set that was posted here back in 2012. The ratchet appears to be of the same make. I would think that the Penens marked stuff would predate the Challenger and Fleet versions. :dunno:
I picked this set up a few weeks ago, much of it looks unused.

This one was just a regular garage sale not a estate sale. I usually stand in line pretty early if i see a good estate sale with tools.

I guess when i see a good sale next time i have to get there extra early to beat him. He seems to pick the exact same sales i go to.

Very good sales I get there 2 hours early and still never #1 on the list but always a low enough number to get in with the first run of people.

There was over 100 sales listed today. That's about 30 more than normal . I figure it was getting backed up after 3 weeks of rain. Of course with the lack of rain our work load picked up as well and I wasn't able to hit but two sales after work. Tomorrow I'm having one of my own so this is probably it for the weekend.
For 82.50 I scored the following .
3 post style pipe vise's , all early 1900's . NYE, Crown, Toledo
Oxwall ratcheting driver
Neptune brand chisel,
international harvester 1-1/8 knock wrench
Mixed set of snappy line sockets and crows foot

Picked up this pump off CL a couple weeks ago for $50, really for the engine - a 5 HP Briggs with a reduction unit that runs great and starts with two pulls every time. I have an old EZ Rake thatcher powered by a 3 HP Briggs with a reduction unit on it that seems a little underpowered, since it occasionally stalls out when it hits some high ground. The guy I bought it from was going to use the engine for his log splitter but found out it would not work. He did not know whether the pump worked or not. I've never seen a pump like this so I did not know its intended use. When I got home I noticed there were labels buried under the mud on the base plate, so I pressure washed it and found it is a "hydrostatic test pump". I looked on ebay and these things go for a lot more than what I paid. Now I am unsure of what I should do, see if it the pump works and sell it or proceed as planned?

Some nice finds guys.

Macduf nice haul. The Williams could be 40's onward based on the part number of the ratchet according to AA site.

Jpickar neat Bell System Proto.

I stopped at a couple yard sales yesterday. Picked up an unused Woodsman's sharpening stone for 25 cents.

The only other find was small chauffeurs license pin that expired in July 1923. Thought it was pretty neat. Old anyway. $1.

Ride anyone?

There have been quite a few sales around advertising tools lately but it seems most have a few dollar store tools, worn out shovels and rakes, etc. I am sure many know how that goes.

Anyways, a few pick-ups from over the last month or so.

Snap-on drivers, brake pliers, Williams adjustable spud stamped "Spain" ? $6

IMG_0817_zpsmm6w0x57.jpg

SK-Wayne 3/8 SAE socket set, Mix of Snap-On & Par-x sockets in tray $6

IMG_0818_zpsyoce0btk.jpg

Diamond nippers $7, P&C ratchets $6

IMG_0819_zpsuvryrqym.jpg

Blue-point scraper, loose Snap-on drivers and mini-picks, Snap-on mini pick set $10. All from a mechanic moving on to a different line of work and trying to get rid of some of his doubles and miscellaneous stuff.

That's a choice haul, macduf!! Well done.

I made to three yard sales early solo and an estate sale and several other YSs and TOOs with SWMBO. My better half turned out to be the charm for finding things worth buying.

The family run estate sale had been picked over pretty well on day one, but I still found some good stuff picking through the debris.

3/4-hp Craftsman motor, 3450 rpm, dated C3 53. Set up on what is likely a table saw bracket. Runs well, with a nice heavy cable. $25

c83a279a926dfdc9ef620f4b351597ba.jpg

Everything else below was another $10.

Belkin and APC power strip
Suet cage
Plastic tub to carry everything in

c83a1138da2a5ded72f97a3277a64944.jpg

Old square bolt combo wrench
Forged Select Steel Indestro deep offset DBE, 5/8" x 11/16"
Chrome X Quality angled DBE, 3/8" x 7/16"
Perfect Handle style screwdriver, can't make out the manufacturer, but has a patent date of 28 Aug 1913
Craftsman flat blade screwdriver
Craftsman crown top 3/8" "-V-" socket set, missing the drive tools and one 7/16" socket
German made needle most pliers

Bungee cord for the truck box
Sandpaper

Not pictured: 1 7' x 20' roll of bird netting for the blueberry bushes
Drove by a community fundraiser TOO and picked up these off of the "free" pile.

Delta 12" carbide miter saw blade, used but good condition. I don't own a 12" saw, but couldn't leave this behind for free.
Delta 10" carbide miter saw blade, used but good condition. I DO have 10" chop and table saws, so this one will get used.
No name dado saw set, also used, but barely. Again, hard to turn down free.

Lots of sales today, many listing tools. Then I get there .......
Baby Stuff .... Baby Stuff .... Baby Stuff .... Baby Stuff
:willy_nil AHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!! :willy_nil

6 stops and 2 TOO's. The first was a sale that advertised "garage full of tools". B/S. I got there early and I heard the owner telling another guy that he moved all the tools over to the new house. Just a few scraps tossed on a tarp in the driveway. Sadly, after running around to the other stops, it didn't get any better. Spent $15 today.

TOO #2 - $5
rubber wheel chock

Stop #3 - $5
2x12 top/bottom ramp kit (missing straps)

Stop #1 - $2
3 - odd shaped body dollies (no markings)
MAC #XD6 3/8dr 8mm deep socket

Stop #4 - $3
Williams #1727 DOE 5/8"-9/16"
KD #2170 (have no idea what this is)
KD #2171 (have no idea what this is)
Trimont 6" stillson style wrench
Herbrand DOE 1/2"-5/8"
Craftsman 4" adjustable wrench (single line, no date code)

I spent time trying to figure out what the KD tools are, but Google has failed me. They're still a mystery.

Stopped at one sale this morning on my way to see my parents. Picked up a 6-light LED puck and an old gauge. $2 each. I have decided to keep my eye out for old dials and gauges so I can begin incorporating them into random projects. My thought process was much the same with the LED puck. Someday I will build a light fixture and use this as the light source.

image.jpg3_zpscocl4edx.jpg

Many hours later, on the way home from seeing my parents, I stopped at an estate sale. The family members running the show must have drawn the short straw because they were doing a terrible job at it. No signs, a few boxes scattered around the fornt yard. The only reason I even knew it was a sales was because of the CL ad. Well, I was there so I got out of my car and started looking. My 7 yo son found an army issue folding shovel and I found this Redding powder scale. $8 total.

Wow, lots of great scores going on!

I bought two tools boxes on Wed. Both full of Cman V code tools and sockets. NO I didn't take pics. But in one of the boxes I found this little Proto wrench that also is stamped BELL SYSTEM. It is in very nice condition.

Macduf, I like that Williams set!
