(First time posting in this thread, long time lurker!)

I've had some lucky finds recently; a few weeks back, I went to an estate sale. Mid-60s house with an indoor pool and the smell of must everywhere. The basement workshop could've been a gold mine...if almost everything hadn't been rusted to hell. Looked like a pipe burst in the workshop. I did find a few things: a spiral hand drill, two Craftsman C-clamps, a router bit, 2 masonry drill bits, calipers, a compass and a ratcheting stubby screwdriver, plus two books, for a grand total of $2!

Big risks = big rewards.... Most of the time. I took a big risk this go around.
I had found a snap on toolbox on Craigslist in a storage unit. Made an offer on it, they ended up saying they were looking to sell the entire storage unit as a package, typical storage wars type deal.
Come to find out, a bank had repoed a body shop and put all the stuff in this unit.
Here's the list of what I was sent along with pictures of the items.
64eec47bdd0c04ee3d9d3c74a5859ffc.jpg
I was told everything that was highlighted was in the unit.
Yada yada, I took a risk and ended up buying this entire unit for $5200 cash.
Here's some pictures of the adventure.
I hooked up to my enclosed trailer, and got a buddy with his truck and trailer as well. We completely filled both trailers and trucks.
Also, while loading up the stuff at the storage place, a lady there saw the dirt bike stickers on my trailer and asked if we rode. She ended up having a dirt bike she wanted to sell.... Which we ended up buying.....
699c3bf472aa0a58c16cb9cbadc60b4f.jpg
We had no room left in either truck or trailer so this is where we put the bike... We got it for $250 with a bike carrier. It's a 2003 yz125, easily worth $1500. Started right up. Notice the two trailers in the mirror, they are slammed full.
Here's some of the stuff I made out with.
Hot water pressure washer

There are a lot more tools not pictured. Also I got a lot of truck accessories such as ranchhand brush guards, fender flares, body lift kits, 2 engine hoists, ac machine, a deep freezer, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting other things.
But overall, how do you think I made out?
It was an hour drive, we were back home and unloaded by about 1:00, we left at 8:00.
This was my first time buying an entire storage unit worth of stuff, especially from just seeing pictures, I did not see it in person at first. I'm not new the tool game but I am at buying stuff in this quantity.
Very glad we brought two trailers.

Looks like you might get a few "you *****". Certainly some nice stuff.

It will take some time to unload it all, but in the end you'll make out like a bandit.
Good score !

Waggoner, you should do well off that and still have some good keepers.

The larger the quantity the better the deal usually. Just from what you posted, it looks like you did very well.

There are some big ticket items to make back my money thankfully. I plan to keep a lot of the tools and maybe the pressure washer. We will see how it goes, I won't get attached to anything just yet. Go big or go home right...?

"How did I do?" I'll say it outright: YOU ****!!! I bet, with time, you can triple or quadruple your money.

Oh, and thanks for making me think about buying storage units. That's just what I need right now. ;-)

Again, well done!

Not a lot of people on here could do that sort of deal. You need a lot of cash up front and a lot of space to hold the stuff until you sell it. Very good deal. You will make a lot of money on that if you take your time.

But overall, how do you think I made out?

I think you violated the rule against self-suckage. But more to the point, I think you bought yourself a job parting all that out. It will take some time to get your $$ back and some stuff you'll likely end up junking. Just MO.

Trying to get into welding and picked up a thermal arc 200 DC welder (from my understanding it's an 07 model and trying to find missing parts for it and a replacement case) and an esab pcm 875 plasma cutter for dirt cheap. Also bought a bucket of sockets made by sk, kd, proto, snap-on, etc. Digging through for what I want and probably gonna sell the rest for cheap.

Total invested: $100

One sale for me today. Most of the tools went early but I got the 2 things that were bolted to the bench. 1/4 hp Dunlap grinder. Filthy but runs sweetly. And this un-named vise. Worse than no name it looks as if the name was ground off. WTF. But it has the pipejjaws.

From a CL ad, The guy was selling about 40 items for 50 bucks. Most were beyond help. He let me pick through it at a buck an item and for 10 bucks I ended up with this;
Saw vise
Apex saw set for very large saws
Keen Kutter hacksaw - Real potential here!
Small hewing axe
2 metal handle saw - one has 4 different blade positions!
Old Henry Disston key hole - the tip of the blade is broken but the handle is solid
Perfect Handle screw driver # 8 I think
All steel screw driver- this thing was built to be hammered on!
2" Buck Brother chisel

I actually have a grinder that's been passed down for several generations and looks exactly like that. I was excited to see it in this thread as I don't really know anything about it. What did that one set you back? I've been using mine for years and I'm about to the point that I need new grinding wheels for it. Any recommendations?

Captain- nice haul. Love the knuckle guard on the Keen Kutter. Wonder if there will be manufacturer on that screwdriver.
TopPop - do those pile jaws come out? That's an interesting feature.

This one cost $15. Not the best deal but better than anything from HF. I think it will last longer too.

I believe that vise is a Dunlap model 5244 vise with pipe jaws.

I got 45 wrenches for about 45 dollars, delivered, off of ebay.

Quite a varied selection of Plomb, Duro-Chrome, Indestro, Blackhawk, P&C, Herbrand, Jos Brothers Co, Armstrong, Wilde, Craftsman, Sears, Dunlap and others...all styles and sizes. See the DBE thread in the Vintage Tools sub-forum for a complete breakdown.

I did a local trade with Makattak81 yesterday and we both got stuff we wanted. I traded some Duluth green handled pliers, mustang breaker bar and i forgot the last thing. He traded me this stuff. He is a great guy to deal with and hope to do more trades with him soon.

1. The ratchets are two proto 3/8's, napa usa 3/8, husky usa 1/2, sk usa 3/8
2. The breaker bars were a penens and two challengers. One of the challengers is broken but Makattak81 said i might be able to go to grainger and get a new blackhawk breaker bar for it.

3. Craftsman torque wrench brand new in the box!

The estate sale i went to yesterday i was 9th in line and was a huge score for me. There were none of the regulars i know there just a couple tool guys when i got in but i got all the good stuff. Everything was $2 each besides the snap-on tools

1. two craftsman usa vise grips, Peterson vise grips, snap-on vacuum grips cutters, craftsman usa long needle nose pliers, beta Sweden cutters.

2. hammer, sk 3/8 ratchet, plumb adjustable pliers, hall hardware co. Mpls, Minn adjustable pliers, craftsman screwdriver that i mistaken for a Mac tools screwdriver, Plumb 1/4 breaker bar, Penens pipe wrench

3. snap on socket set missing most of the original stuff. The first pic is all the original snap-on stuff and the second pic is misc sk, mac, craftsman, cornwell tools. Paid $15 because it still had a lot of quality tools.

These were the big scores from the estate sale. I got these for $2 each and they were scattered all around the basement but i think i got all of them.

1. 5 mac tools angle wrenches
2. 18 cornwell tools angle wrenches and one specialty wrench
3. blue point wrench

I don't know how well i did yet but i think i did pretty good for only $2 a piece and i didn't have a good set of angle wrenches yet so this was a good score.

I love those scavenger hunt type of sales, but they can be frustrating when you can't find a missing piece or you see someone else holding the other pieces you're looking for. It's all part of the fun.

It looks like he once had a complete set of the mac angle wrenches as well but they were not there. I got everything that was at the sale for sure i saw what the other guys were getting and they didn't have any of these. It looks like the cornwell wrenches are from two different angle sets by the looks of them.

Wasn't going to stop at any sales today, but this was close to work. It's a mix of S-K ratchets, proto and S-K sockets, proto and Armstrong extensions. The homemade thumb wheel tool was pretty cool. $8 for all.
