You guys recognize this box? Looks too good to be homemade but no markings that I can see through the paint. Very thick gauge steel, it weighs at least 32-1/2 lbs with the drawers.

Not sure what to do with it yet but I paid $10 !

The tools were about $13.25. Matco 1/4 thumb wheel and brake tool, Stanley wood chisel, Kraueter 1/4 spinner, Keystone deep socket, Truth socket, Craftsman and Barcalo 4" adjustables.

Did you get the period correct hot rod at the sale too?? I can see you are into period correct hot rods like I am:beer:

I'm wondering the same thing. Love old correct style hot rods. Did you think you would just slip that picture in there without explanation? Very cool, got any details?

:lol_hitti

That was included by mistake! It was parked near the exit at the flea market this morning and I parked and got out and took some photos. I don't know the builder. I'm guessing he wouldn't mind a little appreciation, whoever he is.

A farmer stopped by and wanted me to go through a junk pile on a place he had rented out. The renter bailed on him and left a ton of old iron . I showed him what every thing was and gave him a value. He's hauling it to a consignment auction. He gave me a few lil things for my time.

20" tool stand ?
H&B Screw Jack- He had a second one but it was an American Scale. When I told him where it was made he wanted to keep it.
Made in USA bench clamp vise
A lil Iron eagle- a buddy has been looking for one for his coffee grinder lid.

Not bad for 30 min of my time today. I'm not sure what I'll do with a 20" tool stand yet but I'm sure something will come to mind! It looks like it had an anvil on it at one time.

It's been sort of an air compressor saga for me recently.

I have a 1 HP Emglo "wheelbarrow" compressor that has developed a tank leak. It's big and bulky and loud - with ok air flow numbers. I don't really need a great compressor so I was looking for a replacement. I could pick up a new tank for $140 from Surplus if desired but it's still a huge footprint for storage.

I came across a 4Gal Emglo "Stacked" compressor and foolishly paid $100 without looking it over close enough. I runs fine but has a rusted tank that is leaking too. Doh! I can get a Scratch and Dent CAT Aluminum tank that I should be able to move the Emglo guts across to for $90.00 or so. This is approaching what I can buy something else for . . .

On Friday I was at a sale and saw a 4 Gal 2HP MF Master Elite Hush Series compressor at a guys that repairs tools for $40.00. The tank looked fine so I figure I could move the Emglo guts across to this tank and be done with it. The funny thing is that the MF runs great - it needs a little love but nothing crazy. The only reference to this compressor I have found online is that it's a good cheap compressor.

It needs an intake air filter - it's missing and a replacement "blow off" valve as the current one is leaking. It "blows off" if pulled but leaks a little at 100 psi.

I'm going to put the little Emglo aside and the the MF until something breaks or I find another tank for the little Emglo.

Cheers

Jim

Whats confusing? He rented his property out, and (maybe years later?) the renter left, leaving behind a lot of old heavy equipment...

Its mostly a joke, as the GJers are the types of people who love old iron, and wouldn't dream of leaving them behind or throwing them out.

Some German wrenches. I was looking for a few thin head metric ones.

Williams brake wrench and Whitworth wrench.

A couple Pierce Arrow for the collection.

Old Craftsman Vanadium Steel wrench.

A long Williams single end 1-1/2" box wrench. I thought the beam was ground down until I saw "Special" stamped on the side.

Well, I hit two swaps, an estate sale and a architechtural salvage place, and here is what I came home with:

From the first swap, pristine 1/4" Star Trek Craftsman and SK rats, US made kickstands and Proto LA adjustable. $13 all together from a couple vendors.
Second swap was a bust.
Estate sale was the one I hit Thursday, and it was still crazy. Lots of stuff left and good prices, but I am trying not to buy things that I don't need. Here is what I got for $10:

Starrett telescoping gauge, paralelle clamps, Snap On sockets 1/4 and 1/2, Snap on 9/32 extention, Plomb 1/4 socket, Bonney ignition wrench, thin nose pliers unused and a Snap on 150in/lb torque wrench, pretty munged up when I showed it to them, but is cleaning up nicely. I'll have it checked out by a driver soon (not bad for basically a fiver) Went to the salvage place mainly to clean up (filthy from the estate sale) and found this for a few bucks:

Runs but needs a good cleaning.

Rmalkow2, if that is what I think it is, that grinder stand is Craftsman. The top plate is for a block grinder and the base is actually a top plate for a 8 or 9"(?) Craftsman table saw. I'll post pics of the table saw top plate I have and let you see.

Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk

That looks like the same top and post used on the Craftsman stands, but I don't recognize the base.

EDIT: Nine got in before me. He's right about the base.
Mount a block grinder on one side and a tablesaw on the other and you'll have a multi use stand ! :lol_hitti

Good eyes guys! GJ never ceases to amaze me with the knowledge available. I kept looking at the base thinking it looked funny because it has a more slender shape and multiple holes for mounting to something. I never thought it to be anything other than an actual floor base.
:dunno: I guess I could mount the grinder on one end and the saw on the other and then make a pivot in the middle so the thing can flip each tool upright when needed. :willy_nil: :eyecrazy:

NOT :lol_hitti It will most likely just be painted and used as a stand for my buffer motor purchased at a previous auction.

Ended up with just one item on Saturday yard sales, which was an unusual clamp by Master Appliances Inc of Marion Indiana. It was also marked patent pending.

Did little research and the clamp was used to hold a mannequin head via the post, so a wig could be styled on it.

From the 1960's, per the patent that was later issued on it.

I had a busy morning today.
It started at the crack of dawn at the local flea market. Good weather and plenty of vendors. I only bought from 3 tables, but I found some good stuff.

$10
- 2 - 4-1/2" Kant-Twist clamps (ironically, they're both twisted and need straightening)
- 2 - 2" Kant-Twist clamps
- SnapOn OEX-20 5/8" combo wrench (badly pitted w/rust)
- MAC CW-26 13/16" combo wrench
- MAC CH-12 3/8" combo wrench

The next stop was back up to Stop #3 from yesterday just to punish myself.
I wanted to see if the vises had sold, and if not if I could get them for less. The Parker was gone, but the Walworth was still there. They still wanted $150 for the vise and bench. Odd, since almost everything else was selling cheap. Needless to say, I still don't own a Walworth vise.

I did grab a few more things that I left behind the first time though.

$5
- Socket tray (MAC ???)
- Walden #1150 1/2dr ratchet (the selector turns, not slides)
- Herbrand #74 DBE 11/32"-5/16" (offset)
- Proto (USA) DBE #1130 5/8"-9/16"
- SnapOn XS-2226 DBE 11/16"-13/16" (offset) (1959)
- Crescent 4" adjustable wrench
- Bonney #2804 DBE 3/8"-7/16" (offset)
- Bonney #2885 DBE 5/16"-3/8"
- Bonney #2886 DBE 3/8"-7/16"
- Bonney #2890 DBE 3/8"-7/16"
- Bonney #2890C DBE 7/16"-1/2"
- Bonney #2891 DBE 1/2"-9/16"
- Bonney #2891C DBE 9/16"-5/8"
- Bonney #2892B DBE 5/8"-3/4"
- Bonney #2893B DBE 3/4"-7/8"
- Craftsman #42903 1/4" punch

Another item that I left yesterday, but didn't mention (because I'm a coward), was a Craftsman tool chest, grey and red, early 70's. I didn't ask the price yesterday because the last thing I need is another tool chest (I know, turn in my man card). I have no more room for one, and I'm already committed to the red and black ones. It was still there today, so I asked.
SH*T !!!!!! They were giving it away ! :yikes:

It killed me, but I was a good boy and didn't spend my gas money. Instead, I went to 2 other sales in another town. They were both a bust, so I went home and stewed for two hours.................

................... Yup, you guessed it.

I stewed until I saw the clock and realized that the sale closed in 30min. :3gears:
I was hoping that someone else had bought it and I didn't see it in the driveway when I pulled in. Ffewww. Then I stepped out of the truck and glanced in the garage as they were packing things up.
SH*T!!!!!!! It was still there.

I jokingly asked if the price had dropped. No.
I hung my head as I pulled the money out of my pocket and submitted to fate.
This time I won't tell what I paid because I may sell it after it gets cleaned and repaired, but I stole it. The bill I handed over only had two digits on it.

Craftsman (chevron logo) 26" top & bottom box.
Top - 2-72. In good shape w/key (even has all 3 of its pamphlet rods intact)
Bottom 11-72. Needs minor repairs, some rust, no key

Overall, it's in great shape for being used at home to repair tractors for 44yrs.
They even loaded it in my truck for me.

Wait, what was that noise when they tipped it on its back ..................

.............. They hadn't cleaned out the tools that were still in a few of the drawers !

After cleaning out the trash, and obligatory mouse droppings, here's a pic of what was left :

Some of the highlights :
- plenty of putty knives and scrapers - some Hyde
- various types of razor blades
- various auto fuses
- misc. wire
- Blackhawk PT-1029 pliers
- ViseGrip (early Peterson/DeWitt, no release lever)
- Industro #3403 slip-joint pliers
- Utica #50 linesman pliers
- Kraeuter #1601-5 5" duck nose pliers
- Craftsman micrometer
- Allstate tube repair tin (mostly full)
- 2 boxes of power nails
- various economy brand tools that will end up in the $1 bin when we finally have that yard sale we've been talking about for 30yrs.

Right now, it's all sitting in a bucket that I'll sort out later if I can remember where I put it.

Only 4 stops today (5 if you count the repeat). But overall it was still a good day.

Wow that box is nice. I would have paid $100. I hate seeing tool boxes i want because they are the hardest thing to make room for when they are a great deal. You have to sell one you already have to make space for the new one. Try making room for tool boxes in a single car garage that is a challenge.

Grabbed the lateral file cabinet off of Craigslist for $10, unfortunately it was in the basement at an office with no elevator so I man handled it up the stairs on my cart with the help of my girlfriend. Last photo is a toolbox full of sockets that I got for $3 at a sale, their was water standing in the bottom of the box but I took the chance si e over half were name brand sockets. Overall only a few were too bad to save, included snapon, Mac, s&k, Cornwell, and a couple of craftsman.

Hmmm, normally a price is required to earn a You ****, but I'll give you a previsional one on the clues that it was a single bill w/two digits. Well done! I don't need another either, but I'd have bought it too.

Oh, and this talk of reselling a garage sale find...excellent progress! Here's to many more. :beers:

I've had a similar one for years and years. I STILL haven't found a use for it!

Outlawmws:

The stem on that clamp which was used to hold a mannequin head upright, is a very close match/fit to the pin used on my rear dynamic jaw of my old Prentiss vise.
