Well put Jake, a lot of us resemble that report.
It does cause a little sadness though, all the stuff I didn't pickup in the past because I didn't know I needed it.:lol_hitti

Re: The mid-season State of the Thread report.

Well Said Jake! :rocker:

And off to the next find! :3gears:

The mid-season State of the Thread report.

As we close out the first six months of this thread, I'd like to thank all the members who have contributed to this years conversations by sharing their finds. We've seen some great items found and saved so far. From small items such as pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches, to big and heavy items such as anvils, drill presses, and lathes. We've even seen forklifts, trailers, and a car lift show up.

Along the way we've seen rare items come along, as well as the mundane. All are welcome. Each post gives the membership the opportunity to see and learn about items that they may not have had the chance to otherwise see or know about. Members have even shared online bargains from areas outside their sphere for other members to pounce on.

For myself, this thread (and it's previous incarnations) has allowed me to gloat over some of my finds when my family could care less. It has taught me about items and brands I didn't know existed. And it has cost me a lot of money for things I wouldn't have otherwise known I needed.

I look forward to seeing what you guys (and gals) turn up in the next six months.

How could we possibly top what has been recovered and put back to use so far ?
Keep reading and posting to find out.
We're not done yet ....................

Been frantically working my two little typing fingers to the bone all week, looking for any sales worth going to in my travel range this weekend. No luck so far.

Damned barbecue holiday has everything shut down and the big day isn't even 'til Monday.

Looks like I'll have to hope that I can get lucky at the flea's this weekend. :fingersx:

Here is that =v= metric socket set i got in a trade from a local forum member. It is going to be a pain finding a =v= metric socket to complete this set. But i love this set.

Cody - which size do you need ? I can check my spares.
It looks like you're only missing the 8" extension.

It might not be. It looks like the hole is separate from the sockets. Maybe it is missing a adapter? It has the 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 22mm. Your right Jake it is missing a extension. I tried looking up the number on the box 43963 but nothing came up.

Well Jake, here's one of those rare or maybe just mundane items. I'm not sure yet. This pair of Klein lineman pliers with the "climbing lineman" circled with "Klein tools USA" on one side and Pat'd on the other. Ok, ? Now here's the crazy part ... date code 5-95??? 1895?? 1995??If it's 1895 this would be the oldest known pair of Klein lineman pliers. Or did they mark pat'd and reintroduce the "climbing lineman " in 1995? The oldest know pair is 1905. These don't look old enough to be 1895 but certainly old enough to be 1995.
Anyway this is going to be a very slooow weekend sale wise and this is probably the extent of it for me unless something comes up on CL. $14 bucks today scored me the Klein's, Stanley handyman twist driver, Miller Falls egg beater drill, 2 hunks of vintage lead solder for panel seams ...for a "lead sled" and a Hubbard blacksmith 3-1/2" cutoff hammer.

Also, this Hollands 2-1/2" vise from the flea. Jaw width seems unusually small.

I was on my way home then and spotted a sale nearby.

The woman was clearing out her father's house that sold. She wanted everything gone and was happy to get anything for the stuff as she was from out of state. I got all the rest of the stuff for $15 including Band of Brothers dvd set still new unopened.

I spent about 2 minutes wrestling the one and only workbench drawer open and was very surprised to find this Imperial USM3 military knife. Needs some TLC.

I ran across a guy who replaced the jaws on his workmate with oak, painted the jaws and frame with truck bed liner, and painted the H-Frame orange. (See attached File)

3Bay Nice score on the K-bar! I scored a M-2 last week that looked in similar condition. It cleaned up nice and I bet yours will too!

It looks to be 1895. I have a pair that date back to 1915 if I remember right.

Jpick So maybe worth sending pic's to Klein? They had a contest a few years ago to produce the oldest pair. 1905 was the oldest found and won 50K!

This was my first thought too. Contact Klein and let them look into it. You may just have stumbled onto a special pair of pliers. Or not. Either way, it can't hurt to ask.

I only found one good sale today, not much going on with the holiday weekend. Guy was a GMC diesel mechanic and although I was the first one in the door this morning someone cherry picked it last night.

Still made out OK.
Pic 1, Snap On and Blue-Point. Highlights are the complete Saltus wrench set ( the 9/16 is a Mac) and the CJ85 and CJ86 pullers. I also like the snap ring pliers in the Snap On box.

Pic 2. Various brands, Bonney, Indestro, Mac, Par-x, Proto, Williams and several others.

Pic 3. Craftsman in the top left, files, 5/8 Saltus wrench, sockets, pliers, wrenches, 3 Dunlap wrenches. Lower left 3/4" drive sockets and some more Proto. Upper right, Greenlee punch set in nice shape and Matco 51 piece thread chasing set. Lower right, Matco 1/2 drive metric impact deep socket set.

Pic 4, a Popular Mechanics box with all the import tools thrown in after sorting everything out.

Total was $200 even.

Just a few things bought on Friday at yard sales.

Pic 1--Craftsman Vise--Model 391-5180 with 3-1/2" jaws and Made in Japan.

Pic 2 & 3--Small Bench grinder with grinding wheel on one end but other end is where I took off a used up wire wheel. No name found, just P-600 in the cast. Powered by a 3/4 hp electric motor via a belt.

Pic 4--Box of bolts, a Millers Falls #3 Plumb Bob 8 oz size, and a used grinding wheel.

Pic 5 & 6--Cast Iron cap that would cover a 5" pipe. Liked the look.

Pic 7--A Commercial Aluminum Cookware Toledo OH and sheet 24" x 17" and couple inches deep and marked No. 18262. I use them for storing parts when taking apart and cleaning items like vises.

Not much this past weekend to show for. Seen a few nice things, but too expensive IMO.

However, it wasn't a total loss as I did come across another nice vintage metal sign for the shop. It measures 7"x10". Just paid a couple bucks for it. I'm going to hang it over my shop air compressor.

Here's my auction find this week.
Went to look at grinder hoping it was a 3/4 hp, it's a 1/4 hp. But the cabinet is a SO 9 drawer, a K 300 I believe, haven't found a stamp with model yet.

The drawers are super smooth and the deeper ones have two sets of slides.

Has a built in outlet in the back.

The power cord for the box is a twistloc, pretty neat, except no ground.

Check this out, a garage door built in. I think this cover is hevy than my shop door.
51b6fdf65d9d4c7437f2050c2af9fce4.jpg

This is one heavy box, all the drawers work great. Best I can tell, the silver hammered paint is original.. Every picture I've seen of their box was red.anyone have any insight on these?

Finding a kr300 in perfect condition and with the optional lower drawers definitely gets a "you ****" from me. I have the same model (without the lower drawers) that I believe is somewhere between a '53 and '56 model (no markings found.) I believe that grey and white were factory options, with the majority sold being red. Definitely a rare find.

I thought the contest was over, but it never hurts to see what they think.

Very cool snap-on box and it is in great shape as well.

Do you know where the markings are stamped on these?. It's rare to me for sure, never seen one before.

What does a vintage box like that set one back?
It's was at a small auction in town, on a day that I was across the state and not able to go. They took my proxy bid and I got a call that I had won. Didn't even max my bid out. $ 71.00 out the door.
Good thing both of us are at the age where we are done having kids, as we each left a nut on the ground lifting this in back of the truck.
I'm still in awe at how smooth the drawrs are and how nice it rolls around.
I don't normally buy boxes like this, but it really caught my attention. I'll go through it and repaint some day. Thinking of using to store my small collection of vintage tools.

 Nice job there. This puppy has seen better days but I hope to make it look better. Any recommendations for treating the handle? I almost threw some baseball glove oil on it but read that is no good because it softens.

The lacquer (?) finish on mine was in tact just has turned white from being wet maybe? It rubbed right off with elbow grease. If yours is wore down to the leather I would recoat with lacquer. If it's just missing in patches try a 300 grit to smooth it up before recoating

We're on a family vacation in Prague, Czech Republic. Hit a pretty big flea market today just as the rain was coming in.

Lots of vendors were packing up, but I scored a few things. How did I do?

The toy cement truck for my daughter was overpriced at $.82, but not worth haggling over.

The pair of license plates set were $4.10; need to trade one for some other ones that I need for my small collection.

The canvas satchel is allegedly Russian; it's marked "18M2". It's in very good condition, but I just bought it to lug the other stuff around in. It was $8.20; not too bad.

The wooden plane was $1.20 -- marked Tatila or maybe Fatila.

I thought the beer steins were cool, but a bit pricey at $8.22 for the pair.

The "DERBY MADE IN POLAND" 24 mm/26 mm DOE was about $.40 and the Smatcalda (sp?) made in GDR (formerly East Germany) offset DBE was about $1.20.

The carved wooden thing set me back $16.45; looks like the artist was "Bedel." Not sure the use -- it was designed to fit in some slots somehow.

Bullet, Interesting that the Polish wrench was marked in English! Made for the export market I'd guess. I wonder if it made it out of Europe, only to be brought "home"
