Had my first find yesterday. Picked up about three dozen assorted wrenches, mostly older assorted proto with a handful of williams, bonny, SK, etc. It included a set of tappet wrenches and a few oddball things.

Liked the striking and tubular wrenches by mazak mark and ckadams00 machinist tools and wooden chises to call out a few.

Playing a little catch-up.

On Friday, had two yard sales listed in one area, with one at 8 a.m. and other at 9 a.m. Hit the one at 8 a.m. and picked up some sandpaper. Went then to other, but too early, but did see a lot of items on tables with tarps.

Decided to wait for it to open, even after and a fellow yard sales fellow decided he wouldn't wait and headed back out to another sale.

Owner drove in around 9 a.m. and gave me the thumbs up to look through the items.

Many of items were rusty/crusty but definitely old.

Pic 1--Stanley Sweetheart #78 Duplex Rabbet plane

Pic 2--Walker Turner Driver Line Model D572 small drill press made 1937 or earlier with original and great condition paint.

Pic 3--A Stoco No. 52 Standard Optical Co. of Geneva NY and appears to be a small and complicated press and Pat Mar 25 02 and Dec 20-10.

Pic 4--Stanley Marsh #400 Picture Frame Clamp Tool

Pic 5--Pair of Ridgid pipe yoke bench vises. One is the small #2A with optional clamp base, while the large one is Ridgid # 27 and weights in at 65 pounds.

Pic 6--Couple of Hartford Clamp Co of Hartford Conn double bar clamps

pic 7--Several Pony Clamps with what looks like outside faucet handles.

Will post more, once get through the remaining items.

Mike

CK, you get a "you ****" for that haul and another one for how you treated that seller!! You're a class act!!

I pretty much went bust this weekend with this small pile:
P1060770.jpg

Anyone know what that piece of metal is that's stamped Beaver State 66 (made in Japan). It's 11" long and beveled but then flat at the edge. It looks like a heavy steel ruler but without any graduations. Is it a machinist straight edge?

Any clues as to what the brass hammer was used for??

Well I only hit one sale yesterday am but it was a doozy. Garage full of tools and completely unorganized (seriously, he has stuff everywhere, I don’t think he ever put a tool away). Estate sale, widow and daughter - I arrived right as they opened with only one other person. The lady said “everything’s for sale, I have no idea what anything’s worth” which made my heart sink. Several 70’s CMan power tools and several imports. No vises (weird). I spent about 30 minutes digging through drawers putting everything that was Starrett, etc. in a box. Went to check out and she said “How about $40?” and I said “How about $80”? I got a helluva deal, and I didn’t want her to get taken advantage of (other than $80 for what I got which was a steal) so I stuck around for another 45 minutes and helped her arrange things - basic stuff like a Remington nail gun with ammo/nails in 10 different places. A big metal lathe (import) but about $400 worth of tooling and accessories all over the garage which we collected and put in a box for the buyer. She was going to ask $50 for the lathe and I advised her not less than $300 as all the money is in the tooling/gears/collets.

I felt obligated - I remember someone’s GJ quote is “when I die don’t let my wife sell my tools for what I told her I paid for them”.

So: the booty.
Unimat. Incomplete - it was set up as a mini drill, but I’ve never seen one at a garage sale. Probably part this out.

Starrett 6” caliper almost NIB.
Starrett drill/wire gauge
Mitutoyo rule
Starrett Rule
Gauge block set (no ID but this isn’t new/import)
Lufkin 900 planer guage
2 Starrett calipers
Starrett tap
Starrett depth micrometer
B&S depth micrometer
3 B&S center gauges
2 Starrett 154 mini parallel gauges

Castle mag base (Japan) with Teclock (Japan) dial caliper
B&S mag base 7743
Lufkin radius gauges 77A &B
Warren & Swasey cutter/grinder gauge
Couple of Germany picks/clamps
CMan USA ¼ THandle
Japan Caliper - glass is missing

Plomb 4001 puller set
3 Klein nut drivers
Pile of Bondhus ball end allen wrenches
Armstrong 1 ¼ service wrence
Nicholson rasp
RATCHETS:
Allen USA flex
SK
Thorsom stubby
SK ¼

Wood chisels in a nice canvas wrap - all Marples, Buck, Sandvik and 6 Mifer (Spain) and a Machinery’s Handbook - kinda beat up but I’ll take it.

Dillon Precision powder scale (can be used with anything sensitive really but designed for grain weight ammo loading) - online for $79.

The guy was a RC airplane fan. He had LOTS of partial builds. This one was unopened - 70 era “Super Chipmunk” the current ones have a 53 inch wingspan - this one has a 64”! Completely untouched.

These are online for $80-$100 (new version).
Jesus Christ, that's a score and a half!

The straight edge is used for tearing paper, although it can be used as a straight edge also. Lay it on the paper, hold it, and tear.

You guys are doing great. I had a very bad week and stopped at a little flea today for about 5 minutes. Picked up a Bonney H14 wrench for 50cents, and a small screwdriver off the ground for free. Closest vendor denied it was hers. Then I messed up. Guy trying to sell a benchtop buffer with no cowling on the motor. I tried to find a nameplate - no luck, so I passed it up. Gone when I walked back to my car. So later, I'm looking up something on Vintagemachines, and there's the same thing fully clothed, 1725rpm 1/2hp Craftsman motor, just like what I want for my 150 DP. Arrrg!
Ah, well. Someone else is happy.

Wow not bad! I didn't see any of that stuff there, none of those pouches. They must have been tucked away because all the wrenches were loose and on the wall.

Cody I was going to ask if you could post a closeup of the Facom but by the number it looks to be one of their tappet adjusters.

Some nice finds there

Thanks!! In that case it might come in handy for tearing off pieces of sandpaper.

Not much to speak of this weekend. I came home with the rifle repair box on Friday (pics on Vintage board, toolboxes thread), rained out yesterday, and today only this JP Danielson BET’R GRIP with a 1945 date code and a well-made Stanley 16 oz. (1 lb. 5.6 oz. with handle) ball-pein hammer, with much of the label intact.

I ran my youngest up to Camp Wahtutkah, our council's Boy Scout camp in New Hampshire, and there just happened to be an estate sale up near the camp.

Company-run sale with a lot of stuff priced, moderate-to-high. We got there 15 minutes before closing Saturday and skimmed the surface of the basement workshop. We came away with everything below for $12.

5 Proto DBEs, 1 no name DBE
Vintage Craftsman ax head, to fit the handle I found a few weeks ago
Mitutoyo adjustable angle square, head only
6 Mac 6-pt deep sockets, 1/2" drive, sizes 7/16", 3/4", 13/16", 1", 1-1/8"
Proto 5278-H 6-pt swivel socket, 3/8" drive, size 11/16"
6" Craftsman needle nose pliers
Vice Grip pliers, 7R Hewitt, NE, missing screw

1ddb67f6d0e34288df74308e5248ad5b.jpg

There was a MATCO tool chest in the very back of the basement, pretty crusty and picked over. That's where the sockets above came from, but it was marked at $200. I planned to spend the night with the scouts and then come back on my own Sunday for half price day.

Returning at 9:30am, the early birds had already swooped in for the big bargains. The MATCO chest was gone, but I added the following to the back of my truck for the drive back down to Boston.

Athol 613-1/2 vise, 3-1/2" jawed--got it with the already made base adapter--$15

Got the following for $17:
Boston electric pencil sharpener
Bag of No 20 wooden biscuits
3 hunks of exotic wood (original price tags show $12ea)
MATCO swivel impact socket, 1/2" drive, 1/2" size 6-pt
Blackhawk fixed 110X socket driver, 1/2"-drive
Ridgid 25' tape measure
Two roller bars
8" Proto 252 hose clamp pliers
No name hose clamp pliers
9" Dunlap slip joint pliers
NAPA NB46 3/8"-drive ratchet
Eleven ratchet straps, to replenish the worn out ones in the truck tool box
Nesting plastic tub

Well, on Friday I swung by a swap on the way to the doctor and picked up the following:

Some Cornwell six point, Armstrong adapter and Proto 1/4 wrench.
In Saturday hit another swap, finding gold:

Misc. stuff I picked up for a buck here and a buck there, Proto 1/4 8 point, Indestro ignition pliers, Billings and Fleet rats, Armstrong extension and Arm. 9/32 driver/extension and Proto pebble line wrench. 8 bucks for all of that.

Also found good reloading stuff for $22. Then I hit an estate sale that was loaded with tools and locksmithing stuff. Mostly new stuff that I didn't need, but got the following for $5:

Bonney and Proto extensions, Proto LA adjustable, Bunch of US files, and some misc. Also these two books were part of the deal:

Then headed into the city to have a few beers with a friend. A good Saturday!

3Bay,

The wrenches, adjustable and pouches came from that sale. Found the pouches after digging through some boxes on the floor in the barn/shop. Like you said the wrenches were all over, even found one in the basement of the house. I believe the one pouch was for the ratcheting wrenches on the wall and another pouch was for the punch and chisel set that was still scattered about when I was there.

You did great to snag all those ratchets especially the cool smaller than 1" drive ones. Saw them in the photo's and recognized them. I have a Bonney breaker with that same handle design/look. I believe they were associated at one time.

Was able to get a 40" shop light for a buck and also it isn't tool related, but got this shirt that is selling and actually moving for $300. I had no idea it was anywhere near that when I got it, but after a Few hours online I found a shop currently selling it for $300 and they said it should be gone soon.

Hit the flea market today.
First thing I found was a Coca Cola large plastic coin bank to save my pennies for future tool purchases LOL.

Then ran across a guy who always has some nice tools. He's an Ebay seller so no 'bargains" but I picked up some nice pieces.
4 Craftsman short metric wrenches, hopefully I will get closer to finishing my set.
1/4 drive RHFT ratchet in nice shape. It's early, patent numbers but no part number
A "V" flex ratchet with no part number, must be late 60's with the quick release button.

Set of Proto long allen sockets
Columbian D43 vise in decent shape, it must be earlier since it has a hole in the anvil for a cutting chisel
Granco USA set of metric full polish box end wrenches. I had never heard of Granco before but apparently they bought some of the Bonney machinery, when Granco went under around 2010 WTA Tool bought most of it and is still making tools for the military.

Wandered around some more, dug out some tools from one guy. Mac Sabina wooden handle screwdriver, pocket slide ruler, Diamond diagonal cut pliers, 2 =V= Craftsman sockets, Snap On sockets, extension and 3/8 drive ratchet.

Final buy of the day was some Bell System small tool boxes to tease Jeff Moss with, one is marked Bell System D with Thorsen Tool Co underneath it and the other is just marked D Wrench Kit.

Edit total for the day was $73.

So I'm moving in the next few weeks, so I haven't been buying much tools... mostly projects for the new place. But I did pick up two things that have been on my bucket list.

This beast of a Craftsman grinder with 7" wheels. Drove up to north jersey for it, negotiated with the guy for nearly 2 months... totally worth it. Dates 2 of '57 and runs a lot better than it looks.

Then as the misses and I were thinking about what else we needed. I was thinking a new desk for eBay sales. Started searching for Tanker Desk... people asking a little too much. Then put it just Metal Desk and this beaut popped up. Hour drive down to south jersey, and got it in the new place. Didnt notice a brand on it, but I did see a May '58 date code on the side of a drawer.

Vintage concert shirts are easy cash, 80s metal shirts are silly cash

To the mods, sorry for posting non tool related stuff. Feel free to delete these shirt posts if needed, just not sure if there really is a place here to post this besides here. Ahhhh

So I did some digging and I found this online

http://radvintage.shopgate.com/item/35313238

It is the only place I found it or even an image of it. Scoured the web. Mine is different though, it also has graphics on the back. The one posted in the link does not. Could anyone direct me to maybe a forum that is more suited for this stuff or knows anything about this area? I'll be happy to go private.

Also, noticed variations in the design, such as their background is black and the shooting star and paint is different.....

To the mods, sorry for posting non tool related stuff. Feel free to delete these shirt posts if needed, just not sure if there really is a place here to post this besides here. Ahhhh

Limi,
A lot of us "sprinkle in" some non tool stuff into our G-sale posts. (I doubt the mods will get upset.)

Some of the occasional weird/non tool stuff makes this thread even more interesting IMHO.

I'd say just don't exclusively post jigsaw puzzles, used baby toys, VHS tapes and I doubt anyone will have an issue.

Thanks Mike. It just goes to show I found that at an Estate sale at the end of the day it was buried under a bunch of power cords nobody bothered to look under.
