Bulletpruf:

We do have an Ohio National Guard unit so looked it up and it is The 371st Sustainment Brigade out of Springfield and Newark, Ohio.

Re-looked at all the markings on table and looks like type of battalion (IN - infantry, EN - engineer, etc) isn't marked on the table.

For now, guess it will remain a mystery, but appreciate all the info you gave on it.

Mike

I'm guessing it was the 561st Combat Sustainment Battalion from the 101st Airborne Division, Ft Campbell, KY. Don't seem to be too many 561st battalions of any flavor out there. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/561csb.htm

It was a good day at the flea market. Had to get off the wallet pretty big for the Wilton baby bullet to the tune of $15. There are a handful of tool guys that are out there every weekend and its nice to beat them to the good stuff now and again.

Cheers!

Oh man always hard to follow up after a baby bullet btw you **** great score. Alright stopped by two pawn shops in my local area. The first one I spent 7.50 and picked up 4 snap on double boxed end wrenches 15/16-1in 11/16-13/16 5/8-3/4 9/16-5/8.
Also a snap on 14mm combo and snappy 1/2 line wrench. Also three Mac combos 1/2 3/4 13/16 and a pair of vise grips and 12mm snappy extension socket. For the grand price of 7.50 at the first stop. The second pawn shop I got a $15 1/3hp craftsman block grinder only missing the left hand wheel guard. The grinder still has two rubber feet left. most of the time they are all missing anyways. It runs very well takes 2 minutes to stop spinning.

BlueB: i love those Klein bags. i bought a couple years ago and they are still in great shape and i use one for my Ryobi 18v tools to grab (no i don't put any wrenches in the bag with batteries and ask if you don't know why) and the other one is for misc. tools that don't fit easily in my carry tool box. just curious if you bought it for $50 what do they (or you) sell them for? i'd love one like that if i was climbing a tree or a pole to hang from my waist.

ALL: hope you all had fun shopping this weekend. i'll post up my little 3 inch American Scale vise i found over on the vise thread. it's rusty and used, but should clean up nicely and make someone's bench look great if i can't find a spot for it.

cheers

So I grabbed something little at an Estate Sale this AM, a Stanley No 299 Utility Knive for $1.00. I have several No 199's that I thought needed a cousin to hang around with.

When I opened it up I was surprised to see that the blades only have a single notch at the top instead of the "normal" 2 on a modern blade.

I put a 2 notch blade into it **** it sticks out further that I would like. The model number on the 1 notch blades forwards to the modern 2 notch blades.

Just to ask a GJ type of question - do they still make 1 notch blades? I can't seem to find any online.

Jim

Nice score on the baby bullet!

Raining here so most garage sales were cancelled. Went to the Habitat for Humanity store instead. Got a newer candy apple stool and a "Snap Shop" rivet, punch, grommet kit. Kind of an interesting little kit. Comes with little attachments to place on a pair of Vise Grips to punch and rivet things. Kind of gimmicky and probably not very robust but I've never seen one before. And it came with a very nice pair of Petersen 10R's that look almost brand new. Figure they may have been used a couple of times. Paid $20 for both.

Good stuff guys!

BMW & THRU-HIKA - You both ****! for those bullets. All I can find are Shop Kings.

Here is my haul from last Saturday at an estate sale. All tools and the Shop King were $7.

The other Wilton I picked up yesterday at a yard sale for $5 .

Waggoner cool find on the shackles. I had to move a large one at work by hand recently. I want to say it was close to 100 lbs. . Very awkward to grab.

ALL anyone ever use these string leveling tools in the second pic? Just curious.

Drives: I threw it right back up on Ebay for $50. They sell brand new in the $80-$110 range, and really grungy for $20 and up. Since this one is pretty clean, I figure it'll bring my asking price.

I also put the three carabiners up for $50, so if they both sell, I'll double my money for less than an hour's work.

Garthg, Pics of the box?

Here you go. It was really rusty, to the point where there a couple of thin spots on the bottom, but I think it will still serve well. I had to do some mild metal beating on a couple of drawers, I think due to the drawer being slammed against the Fuller screwdriver that was rolling around inside. I still need to touch up a couple spots of paint. I know I can get a lock but I may have to fabricate some locking bars unless someone knows where I can get them.

This box is really heavy. It's definitely comparable to a Snap On box of the same era.

Also a 1 1/2 hp compressor in very sad frozen condition for $10. Score, the motor runs.

Garthig, that lock should have just a short cam bar <2" long. The trick is to get a lock and the cam bar so it catches the lower lip inside the box. Most locks come with several cam bars.

I purchased this Johnson Model 101 Soldering Iron Furnace from a CL ad yesterday. Asking price was $50 and I paid $40. It may still turn into a project to revive as it was missing one of the cast iron burner tubes, the interior insulating material and a handle for opening the lid. But everything else is on good shape so I'll explore slowly getting the essential missing parts and see if I can have a gas fired small forge.

Outlaw, I don't think you're right on that. There's no lip to catch on the bottom center. I think it was set up the same as my Snap On 26" box. There's holes in the side of the lid that correspond with holes in the face frame. There would be two rods, each approximately 12.5" extending out from the lock which would have an actuating lever. I may be able to fabricate something. Snap On parts might even fit if those are available somewhere.

Always wanted one, this was originally 9/32 then ground down to 1/4. I do hope a 1/4 rebuild kit will work.

SAM: i'm not much into Pipe vises, but i own several. that said even though the handle is bent and the stand is broken as you say i do like the look and the name cast on the top of the stand. i would have bought it to. can the stand be fixed or what is wrong with it. the pipe vise just looks like it needs spiffing up and the handle straightened in a press.

I hit only one sale this morning but it had a wide variety of tools. I was seventh in line so didn't get all I wanted but only had to shell out 28 bucks.

Scored some old wooden cobbler tools. Not sure what they are called or what they all do but wasn't leaving them behind. Just too nice and I never miss a chance to learn something new about an old tool.

A couple of roofing hatchets. one Keen Kutter and one unmarked. The unmarked one I'm going to play with a bit and see if I can cut it into a tomahawk shape.

The stand has an ear broken off that one of the legs bolts to, it has been fixed with a piece of scrap steel. I also think the edge opposite the vise is broken off, not sure how much is missing. For the price I figured it was worth it just for a working pipe vise. As an added bonus I have a home project that I need to do that requires a pipe vise. Now to find a pipe threader for 2" pipe.....

Estate sale today. I was irresponsible and bought stuff I may never use, but it's good stuff! Still doing inventory, but Snap On, Vintage Williams, Plomd, Thorsen, Craftsman, lots of 1/2 inch, which I hardly ever use. I'll follow up with part number list but the lot cost me $48. If there is anything someone needs to complete a set,PM me and I'll send better photos.

$48 is hardly irresponsible, unless you can't make rent tomorrow because of it. You can make that back with the resale for any small part of that haul. Well done!

Went to pick up a vice I purchased about an hour from my house this morning heading towards Boston. Pick it up then went a half an hour south to do another pick. Picked up two more vices then spent 4 hours in traffic! Only good thing is I stopped at every antique store on the way home just bought a ton of ****.

I got this early 4.5" Prentiss swivel jaw w/ broken foot for $35. Then this gorgeous 4.5" Simplex for $25. While there I bought this 3.5" Bullet with brass jaws for $50 (12/52 date stamp). The bullet is really immaculate, the paint is horrible but trust me super clean.

Then I stopped and got this Gerstner box, loaded, for $100. Also got anothet Explosion proof Appleton light for $60. Lastly, this Tomlee joiner for $25. Its in really fabulous shape.
