Picked up this top and bottom set for $30 off a Craigslist ad. The top box is a RemLine and the bottom is a 1972 Craftsman. The Craftsman is missing some slide clips and the panel that goes behind the door (the door is in there). The RemLine was just missing the keys.

That is awesome!! I've been trying to find something similar on CL but have had zero luck. Nice find....restoration?

hi all, i just found this thread. i almost fell over when i seen mike post re: auger bits. i was coming home from the store and followed a yard sale sign. at first sight it didn't look all that great but i stopped anyway. picked up a set of russel jennings. the gentleman was kinda firm on 25.00 so i grabbed a few chisles, some hinges and a nesting screwdriver and got the bundle for the 25. i picked up that other box awhile back

That was originally my intent; especially on the cool looking RemLine. But I ended up passing it on to my friend who moved in next door. He was standing outside when I was contemplating making room for it in my shed or garage. So instead of going through all that, I just sold it to him for what I had in it. :lol_hitti. I may tell him I want dibs on the top box if he ever sells it.

Months ago I did a partial resto on a 1980 C-man combo with the same bottom box. So when I got the set home today and took inventory of what was missing from the bottom box I kind of lost motivation to fix it up.

great finds all!!!

Mike,
Your chisels appear to be CutEasy chisels. Not alot of info out there but found a pic of the logo on an Ebay listing:
Untitled.jpg

Also great find on the R.J. auger bits.Look like great shape and hopefully you got a good price. They used to fetch $100+ on Ebay.I haven't kept up with pricing since I got a set 10 years ago and haven't stumbled upon any.

Alinc100, LesserSon:

Alinc100 was glad to get your pic of that logo on the chisel, as it shows better the words of Cut Easy and the snake on it.

LesserSon:

That info on CutEasy being a registered trademark (June 27 1906) of Smith Bros Hardware Co, of Columbus Ohio makes sense, given we live about 25 miles from Columbus.

In another forum, had found this info on Cut Easy as well.

Jim asked about a Cut Easy chisel. The DAT isn't clear about it. W.
Bingham & Co. of Cleveland, OH, was a hardware dealer who worked
-1841-1946-. The bused a Cut Easy brand name on augers, but not sure
about chisels. Smith Bros. Hdw. Co., Columbus, OH, marked axes with the
brand name Cut Easy; again, not sure if they marked chisels. Sort of
makes me wonder if some maker in OH might have been supplying local
hardware stores with Cut Easy tools?

Thanks again for the help.

Mike

Cf mtn:

I still use auger bits with a brace but most of my bits are one's I've picked up over the years at garage sales including some partial bits by Russell Jennings.

So when spotted the 3 tier oak box with a complete set and didn't have to do anything other than clean off some dust from the box, decided it was worth getting.

BTW, when checking info on the 100 series, found that Russell Jennings also sold a 3 tier box set in the 101 series. Difference being that the 101 threads are coarser than the 100 series.

So, looks like I'll be keeping my eye open on getting a 101 series as well!!!

Not a garage sale find, but rather a freebie from my BIL.

Cleveland Twist Drill 1947 catalogue

Brian

Brian,

I have a set of Cleveland Twist Drill Co reamers in a wooden box that I would like to definitively date. I'd link the photos here right now if I could, but I recently inadvertently zapped a whole folder of photos. I'll PM you soon.

Ah, finally found the thread I was remembering: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5576597&postcount=1
So they made pliers, too.

I try and do at least one item per year with just hand tools.

The one I'm most proud of was a Warder Mitchell & Co. of Springfield, Ohio cider press.

Pic 1 shows how the cider press minus the cast iron looked when started, while 2nd pic was how it looked when finished with mostly all new replacement wood.

It was my Dad's and it went back to him when finished.

Thanks. I'll snap some new photos soon.

+1! I passed up a press in sad shape a few weeks ago and looking at this one I am wishing I hadn't.

Grabbed this stuff yesterday...

Walden flaring tool. Pre-war matching Herbrand script tappet wrenches. McKaig-Hatch slip joints. Bridgeport cabinet screwdriver. Kastar 26-leaf (0.0015 to 0.025) feeler gage.

The long-reach Baker brush is not part of any WWII kit I collect, and I know virtually nothing about them, I just couldn’t resist the nifty branding on the ferrule.

I answered a CL ad for "Craftsman box with tools" and the only picture was this:

00t0t_80glH1iarsB_1200x900.jpg

His price was $100.

I've only taken pictures of the bottom box so far.

What I got was:

- Complete Craftsman 1/4" drive set (with RHFT ratchet) in original plastic box (crown-top logo)
- Complete Craftsman 3/8" drive set (with RHFT ratchet)
- Craftsman =VV= long shank DBE wrench set (including 19/32 x 25/32)
- Craftsman -V- DBE wrench set (short)
- Craftsman =V= DOE wrench set
- Craftsman crown-top ratcheting DBE wrench set
- Craftsman punch set (looks 1960s) - some items have never been used
- Craftsman die set in original plastic crown-top box
- Craftsman SAE hex wrench set in original plastic crown-top pouch
- P&C open-gear 1/2" drive ratchet
- Duro wheel hub puller
- Thorsen USA Combination wrench set
- US made drill index from 1/16" to 1/2" USA made drill bits
- Bondhus metric hex wrench set

- Kennedy machinist tool box
-Craftsman Heritage-era rolling tool box

Lots of other misc tools that I can't recall.

I didn't hesitate to hand him his asking price of $100

The Craftsman heritage top box in the second picture came from a CL purchase a few weeks ago. Paid $75 (full of tools as well)

Here's the saves from last weekend, some good stuff in here for not much money....

pic 1 - two vintage PA license plates, and a new box of Black & Decker pop rivets, for $5 together. The plates were a buck each.

pic 2 - two staplers, I think one is an Arrow the other a Swingline, some staples for them, and a small Wagner cast iron pan. All for $6.

pic 3 - two hammers (an Estwing rock hammer and a no-name claw), a few files and a multi-rasp, Stanley No. 199 razor knife and two scissors (one US and one Italy). $11 for everything, the Estwing was $6 of that.

pic 4 - two antique nippers and a very old plane, there is no markings on the plane so not sure who made it. $6 for everything.

pic 5 - 4 wrenches (1 antique tractor wrench, 1 Plomb DOE, 1 Billings DOE and a no-name "S" wrench), Plomb 1/2-inch extension, 2 nutdrivers (1 Klein and 1 VACO), and 2 Craftsman screwdrivers. All for $9.

Hit an estate sale today, after a docs appoint. Photos showed some tools, and it wasn't too far out of the way. Here is what I got for $28 (first day, early in.)

From the top, Snap On TMS 4 speeder, Proto LA 4", Bonney Refer ratchet, Proto 3/8 17" extension, Cornwell 3/8 spinner, Herbrand Ratcheting adaptor, Proto 1/2" extension, Snap On G and Herbrand sockets, Vacuum Grip needle nose, Proto hand drill. There was some other decent stuff, but I didn't want to pay first day prices on them, so I will go back.

Came across something pretty cool at a recent estate sale.

It is an antique aquarium air pump from the 1890's-1910's.

Someone probably picked it up from the garage but had second thoughts and left it in the kitchen where I found it. Lucky for me!

What is peculiar about this motor is that nothing touches the wheel to make it spin. There is a coil at the base and a mirror image corrugated shaped plate (like the grooves on the wheel). I would guess the magnetic field of the plate and the alternating high and lows points on the wheel somehow create motion. I rewired it and it works! After you flick on the power, it needs a little push to get going, but after that it hums right along.

Went to one yard sale on Thurs (9/8/16) and picked up a Craftsman 6 inch bench grinder with 1/2 inch arbor, lamp, pair of grinding wheels and 1/6 HP. Model 351.211240 pic 1

Also got a small Vtg USA Made Bench Vise with 3" Jaws by Tesco of Tulsa OK pic 2.

Then later in day, traded a pair of Coca Cola metal signs plus cash for a Parker model no. 954 vise. Took it all apart, stripped off what remained of the paint and now looks and works like it should. pics 3-7

Saw an ad for an estate sale that advertised lots of SnapOn, including a toolchest. I ended up getting there a little over an hour after opening because I had to put my nephew on the bus to pre-school. By that time all the good tools were gone. Apparently there was a bit of a scuffle over tools as soon as they opened. Glad I missed it, although I'm sure it would have been entertaining.

Most of the tools that were left were no-name imports and stray craftsmans. The prices were a bit high.

Spent $5 on an S-K Tools C-22 11/16" combo wrench and a 2lb Atha hand sledge.

Picked up a cabinet for $5.

f5d545edb2e9db1ce22b53f6a0cbc6eb.jpg

Now if I can only locate a drawer to replace the missing one. I'm going to use it to store more tools (have two more of these plus a double bay snap on chest but seems there is never enough room to store all my tools)

Hi txbruno and welcome to the GJ Forum!

I also am into old Coleman stuff...lanterns for the most part.

Are you a member over at http://www.colemancollectorsforum.com?

Great site, suggest joining if you're not there already - great group over there, just like here at GJ.

That red lantern looks like a 200A to me. Not sure on the lamp.

I have a lot of history over at that site. Was a very active member there then got banned a few years back, started another small forum for a chat room. The lamp is a 152 and after clean up I discovered a rather large pinhole in the top of the fount.

If you are interested I can share more of my Coleman collection, it is has grown into a quite large collection.

Yes please share. I always look out for the Coleman items but have not come across anything real good in awhile. My last good score was a gold bond 200A in the box about 3 years ago.

Marty: how wide is the vise's jaws and was it a FPU Bison polish vice? you didn't pay close to full retail for it, but i know you think you did compared to what you pay for other vises. do you like those as much as i do? pretty nice quality isnt it? other stuff should pay for it unless you are going to keep them.

Bagged Besides missing the stop what condition is the Stephen's? Is there any markings on the top of the slide?

It's in great condition. I quickly took it apart to make sure it works properly. No markings that I can see right now.

Almost a bust this morning.

Picked up the SK sockets for $10 and gave the same guy $5 for the Realistic 8 track player. I think the 8 track player might make a nice display piece in my truck.
