Tool_master, those Chapman sets are good sets. looks like you have two complimentary sets of then as the "converted" eyeglass case also has a lot of Chapman bits. (the knurled ends are a giveaway the red case had mostly straight (all in the main row) and a few Phillips in the odd spaces. (I have a set like that red box around here somewhere, as well as a yellow "roll" with hex bits.)

What is the round head in the Craftsman 1/4 drive box? SK?

What is the round head in the Craftsman 1/4 drive box? SK?

OutlawMWS, the round head is a black hawk, the set is a mismatch of American 1/4s including Craftsman, Thursten, and Indestro.

Treasures from the weekend.

From an estate sale this little 1 quart oil dispensing can with flex spout will look right at home with an old hand crank oil pump.


From a CL ad for a group of old oil cans (I was too late for the actual oil cans) I managed to come away with a couple metal fuel/oil cans and an old saw mil blade.



From another CL ad I came home with this nice Autolite storage cabinet. Yet another vintage storage cabinet piece that will look good in a new shop if I ever get it built.

Heel: great wrench and you ought to post it on the HUGE TOOLS thread. i'm surprised it's teeth aren't a bit bigger cause with all the length and torque you could really turn some big bolts and nuts. nice find and i've yet to see one that big.

ALL: i've picked up a few of these lately and since my bride has been claiming them all for her future projects i needed another to make a vintage wood bench. legs are already removed and just working on the frame design now.

Couple of good finds at the flea market today.
First a few random tools from 2 sellers. Tap set is Japan, but I bought it for the box.

DBE is chrome X, center punch is a millers falls, channellock pliers, and unbranded needle noose, Stanley screwdriver, unmarked divider, Barcalo combo

Found this box at a 3rd seller

It was full of water and rusty tools but I was able to pull theses gems out.

Matco screwdriver, SK claw hammer?!?, SK tuff1 1/4 ratchet, 2 craftsman wrenches, craftsman torx driver, SK and a Snap On Socket, evercraft flare wrench, and a rusty punch.

As well as this case. Its pretty nice, and a good size for a gun case. 12 X 24" and just enough thickness for foam.

Its German made, well made, and was originally for surgical/medical stuff.

It of course didn't have a key, (latches are similar to Samsonite) but I dug into the collection and whadiya know! This one fits, and also works the lock perfectly! I'll have to stop at a locksmith or luggage place and see if I can get a couple of spares.

So the keys for this case turned out to be pretty easy: my local Ace had nothing in their key department, but a decent Locksmith that recently moved to not very far away had the extra keys I wanted! the guy took one look and said "Handcuff key?" No, but it fit and just needed a little taken off the inside back of the flag. I can't believe hand cuffs are such simple locks...

So I have three keys for the case, and just need some egg crate foam on one side to make it my new gun case...

Great finds guys. that Union medal, is it silver? it sure is worn. the Eagle is barely visible!

I used a magnet on the Union Medal to test and so think your right, as it appears to be silver.

I've bounced an email off to Machinist Union, in hopes they may have something in their archive on the La Crosse, Wisconsin June 17, 1899 date.

BTW, thks for sharing info on the briefcase lock, as will store that for future reference.

That 1/4" Craftsman socket set in the metal box is the same as one that I purchased new in 1959 - still using it.

So the keys for this case turned out to be pretty easy: my local Ace had nothing in their key department, but a decent Locksmith that recently moved to not very far away had the extra keys I wanted! the guy took one look and said "Handcuff key?" No, but it fit and just needed a little taken off the inside back of the flag. I can't believe hand cuffs are such simple locks...

So I have three keys for the case, and just need some egg crate foam on one side to make it my new gun case...

Couple weeks back, left my phone number at a yard sale, in event some old tools could be located.

Got a call, so went and looked at them today.

Pic 1--An Acme branded anvil, 110 pounds and found these were sold by Sears & Roebuck for many years, including in their 1908 catalog.

Pic 2--Older Stanley block plane, but raised wing on other side in picture shows it is broke. I tend to buy even broke older hand planes, as found from another GJ participant that they can serve as a donor for another one. Planer Blade is marked Stanley Rule & Level Co.

Pic 3 & 4--Top one is by Challenge Cutlery Corp Bridgeport Conn, while the bottom one is by GM Mfg Co L. I. City, NY. Shot other side and shown, given not sure the purpose of either.

Pic 5--Unmarked but old Tack hammer and Tack puller, Unmarked Divider that looks like blacksmith made, Stanley Sliding T Bevel Pat'd 7-14-08

That's an early Delta miter gauge, not easy to find, especially if the corners are free of blade rash.

Picked this up at an estate sale this weekend. Its a gold tone JH Willams AP-6 the back side says "Made expressly for the Roblin Steel Company"

Any info on this guys?

I like the rail track anvil. Someone took a little pride in their work. Your post reminds me- I picked up a clamp on vise the other day like no other I've seen before. I'll post pics later.

Agree with you, that someone took a small rail and ground it into a nice usable size, including a base with couple of holes to allow it to be secured to a bench.

Will keep a watch out for your pics on the clamp on vise, as they are fun to collect and enjoy.

I'm thinking this early Delta miter gauge with the dual pat'd dates of 1,894,010 and 1,902,270 was from the 1930's era.

It did have one saw blade nick (see last pic attached), but rest is pretty good for the age.

That certainly is a nice looking example. An anvil is something I've needed for the shop for quite a while. I just haven't been lucky enough to find one. With the exception of those that want $10/lb for them of course.

There was a Roblin Steel company on Oliver St. In North Tonawanda, NY (Buffalo area). Previously to Roblin Steel the property was Buffalo Bolt I believe. I don't know if they were located elsewhere. Cool find !

They work on the principle that
a) the criminal won't have a key and
b) would find it difficult to get a key in the lock with his hands behind his back and in cuffs.

Keys for the majority of handcuffs are alike so every officer will have the right key. TBF calling them locks and keys is probably glorifying the mechanism

S&W made high security cuffs that used a modern tubular key.
