Quite a haul there Waggoner. Definite You **** Pricing!

I went to one sale today and threw together a pile of tools and trinkets.

A couple HUSKY 3/8 ratchets in there, a couple Snap On pieces. The old Cornwell stud remover set is kind of neat. I have seen them but never ran across one.

Waggoner72, you ****...I mean...YOU. ****!!! Any other deals folks would find this weekend--heck, maybe the rest of the year--would be blown away in the ****-storm.

Congrats on a great score!

I am starting to think about best deals of the year and so far there are 2 contenders. Outlaw and his "mystery box" full of Snappy and now Waggoner and his Starred. When oh when will it be my turn....

Two sales this morning both were on their 3rd day and both run by same estate sale company.

The first didn't have too much but I picked up 13 kitchen sinks complete with faucets for $30 and they threw in some wax and lead projectiles.

Removed the faucets and headed to the scrap yard. It was 124lb stainless which they paid $37.20 for and 30lb of brass for another $36.

The other sale was the house of a doctor that likes to buy stuff. Tons of NOS tools and electrics from the 70s to present.

Nice job guys !
There's no way I'm competing with that Starrett haul this week, but here's my humble offering.

4 stops planned for today. The first was a bust. It was sprinkling out and everything was under tarps. The family was in the house and didn't bother to come out. I didn't bother lifting the tarps to look. If they can't be bothered to sell, then I can't be bothered to buy. (yeah, I might still be annoyed)

The second stop was marginally better. This was a retiring mechanics garage. He's been selling things off all summer, but his prices were initially high. Not much left but junk. Most of the tools were Harbor Freight, Asian imports, and severely abused name brands. I spent some time digging for anything salvageable and came up with a few screwdrivers.

Stop #2 - $5
Lg. unmarked angle wrench (nice knurled center)
Cornwell SDP-P400 pick
Cornwell SDP-P404 hook
SK #82007 P2 screwdriver
SnapOn SDD4120 6" screwdriver
unknown (SnapOn knockoff) P2 screwdriver
SnapOn SSD422A 24" screwdriver

The next stop was at a woodworker's shop. I didn't feel like getting up early to stand in line for a number, so I ended up showing up 2 hours after they opened. I'm sure I missed out on some good tools, but given the marked prices I saw, I probably wouldn't have paid those prices anyway.

Most of the machinery was still there. Some nice stuff, but newer and expensive. There was a 1940's Craftsman 103.0103 12" bandsaw, but there was no motor or stand and it needed a serious rebuild. They wanted $100 for it. They were asking $20 per pipe clamp. I see them all the time for $5 or less.

The loose tools were more reasonable, but once again, what was left was mostly junk. I scoured the drawers on the workbenches and found some hidden gems.

Stop #3 - $10
8' cord w/ outlet/plug end (I'll use this on my DP light and get an outlet back)
Rockier 26amp router speed control (w/ belt clip)
SnapOn B1467 6pt DBE 5/16"-3/8" wrench
MAC CW16 1/2" short combo wrench
MAC BL-1618 DBE 1/2"-9/16" wrench
MALCO A3 awl
sm file handle
MAC PNRB4A screwdriver
MAC PKRB8A screwdriver

The last stop today was a family yard sale. It advertised tools, but I didn't see any.
Lots of toddler stuff.

I picked up a small sand/water table for my nephew for $7 (not pictured).
I also found 4 large traffic cones for $15. Just one sells for that price new. I use my other two to cover the jacks on my trailers to keep the weather off them in the winter. They also help me see the tongue of the trailer in the dark.

Starrett mother load part 2:

Went through the rest of the boxes and this is what I got, including the pictures above, all for the $180 price still.

Well I know now why its so darn windy here in Arkansas. Nice haul for sure looks like you paid for the machinist level and the rest was free. Btw my neighbor is pissed all my leaves blew in to his yard lol thanks for that.

Dang good idea on the traffic cone to see the tongue. I need a cone now. One of my trucks has a back up camera which makes it too easy. Other one doesn't and is a stick shift so is a pain hooking up.

Picked up a deal on two complete Snap On socket sets for $100:

And hit the swaps this AM:

Almost complete unused Proto ignition set $15 old start switch $1 what I thought was a Snap On 1/2" in a 3/8" body, but is really a cut off lineman's ratchet $20 (you win some, you lose some. Its what I get for moving too quickly when excited.)

An unused Proto LA carbon scraper $2, two Spintite yankee bits (buck each), Dowidat whitworth combo $1, Pexto needle nose $1 and a pre-serial number 4" Delta jointer $30 at a junk shop. More than I intended to spend, but not too bad.

I barely made it out today. Stopped at one sale while I was walking my dog and grabbed these 3 screwdrivers for 75 cents.

I only made it to two sales today. I bought a 1960's-ish Kennedy 1017 for $26.25 and Mohawk 12" blade with a center head (no brand listed on the center head) on it for $2.

I will take pictures tomorrow.

Me and my pops stopped at an estate sale we happened to pass by yesterday. I got this Proto torque wrench for $5 and the Ford wrench for $2. They also had a 4" Klein adjustable, diamond 6" adjustable, and one other 6" unmarked adjustable bundled together and marked $5 dollars for all three. I set it down to think about it and forgot to pick it up on my way out.

I hope y'all enjoyed this loot run. I'm not a machinist by any means so any advice is welcome. I may make a thread later of up close pictures of all the Starrett tools.

Waggoner72:

Tip of the hat to you Waggoner72 and you sure took the air out of the forum, much like Outlaw did in July when he paid $5 for a cantilever box plus contents.

Bill Ramsey said it best then and it applies to Waggoner72 now.

Let's face it, Outlaw, "you ****" doesn't even come close to describing this find, and I think you and everyone else here knows it. If this is a "you ****" find, then the Mona Lisa was just a painting. (Bill Ramsey quote)

The Challenge Cutlery Corp Bridgeport Conn pat 1904 has a 10 inch rule and found it advertised as a Triangle Square. Pic 1 front & 2 back.

At same sale location, picked up a GM Mfg Co Inc L. I. City, NY Pat Pend
pic 3-6 & 7 shows back and so wondered whether there is a connection between the tools and what they were used for.

Thank you for the kind words Mike. I was trying to go back through the posts to find outlaws score. Now that I know it was a carry box I'll search again.

I posted my find over at the practical machinist forums in hope of finding some knowledge people and maybe make some sales, a good amount of people got offended saying I screwed someone over. In my defense, I paid the seller the price he wanted, he was happy, I was happy. And I saved the tools from rusting away in the jobox in his front yard.

Found this 1hp 5/8 chuck 15" craftsman drill press on Craigslist for $80. Went to pick it up and also snagged this 1/2hp grinder and stand for $75 that he hadn't posted on CL yet. Excuse the mess. Got everything piled in here while I'm waiting on my shop to be built.

Your "hog ring pliers" look to be dental tooth extraction forceps.

Waggoner: I admit to feeling a little guilt sometimes at getting something for a steal, but like you, nearly all of my YS deals came from an asking price, not a solicited one. I have no problem, however, offering 10 cents or less on the dollar at an estate sale where I have to swim through cobwebs and sort piles of junk to find the gems.

Waggoner, Don't let the asinine and presumptive comments from the Peanut gallery bother you. if they can't be bothered to read the whole story before making those assumptions, their not worth getting your undies in a twist over. you know you did nothing wrong, and that's all that matters!

Looks like Mike gave you a hint, It was either June 23 or 24th that i posted I think.

As far as "the best score" Its hard to judge, both, as well as many others this year were really good, but the volume and class of tools were completely different, as well as the price paid... :dunno:

Waggoner you gave the guy what he asked for. That doesn't make you a bad guy. It's the sellers obligation to figure out what he/she should be asking for their stuff.

The guy that commented is obviously a jackass and probably just jealous.

Anyone who ridicules someone for getting a smoking deal is simply upset that they didn't get the deal. That American Picker show is BS when the guy gives more then what the person ask for if it wasn't on camera he would offer half guarantee it. Waggoner great score good for you

You might be right - the insides of the pliers have rounded grooves in them, like a couple sets of hogring pliers I have, so I assumed. They are very high quality, so perhaps they are what you say they are, most medical and dental tools are quality craftsmanship like this seems to be.

This weekend was a bust- went to 4 garage sales, but no tools to speak of. Picked these up about a week ago, forgot to post- Not pictured is an impact screwdriver in box. Coolest of the bunch is the little clamp on vise. Looks like a quality piece, even has removable jaws. $10 for all.
