No sales on the horizon for the rest of the year... One maybe on the 31??? So to feed the junk beast in me I had to resort to antique stores. I worked today in a small town about 60 miles north of me so instead of lunch I hit one store during lunch and the other on the way back home. No real bargains of course paying retail but some pretty neat stuff none the less. I spent $53.50 total and here's the list of my finds :

Home made/ school made knife
old candle holder
blacksmith round stock tongs
Russell Jennings bit's and wooden box- partial bits and the box needs help
Goodell Pratt chain brace bit
dbl bit axe- pretty rusty but one bit is still good - wanted one like this for a project I've had stuck in my head for a while :Freak:
old chain pliers
Heller master wrench
old Linde gas wrench
And finally remains of an old zeppelin car. . It's in terrible condition. bent. dented. missing 3 wheels and the axels are nearly rusted in to. But still too cool to leave behind today for a buck.

But the coolest thing I found today was this big wooden lead screw! It's not prefect . Has a couple nicks out of the "freds",as my ol' buddy would say, but I just plan on displaying it after cleaning it up a bit. About 27" long ! :rocker: I'm not sure what this came from, maybe a saddle vise? :dunno: But I know the exact spot it's going to spend the next decade or so at! It was funny, They had it marked for $25. I asked them if they would take $20? I said I didn't want to get "SCREWED" and the guy laughed so hard his top teeth came out :wtf:... got it for $20

I have been after this grinder for years!

Very nice, pretty complete too... Just missing the tool rests but those can be fabbed up easy enough or might be able to find some aftermarket.

I think everyone dreams of owning a 1HP Block... :)

How much did you pay for it?

I have a 3/4 hp with the same tool rests, so I have patterns to make new ones.

Paid $150
For me it was worth every penny. Runs like brand new, and came with the stand.

Not a great deal. I had to pay for this one.

That's still not bad considering 1HP Grinder + Stand + Tool Holder.... You aren't going to get that kind of deal on buying something new.

Stopped by my favorite pawn shop and sure glad I did. I picked up 2 Dewit vice grips, a 1/2 drive SK ratchet, 19 mm Snap On, and 14 Craftsman sockets for 10 cash. I only had 9 on me so he told me to bring it next time.

The vice grips aren't the prettiest, but teeth are in good shape and they work great.

This is what I had in mind on that dbl bit axe with the bad bit. It's still pretty rough and needs a "bit" more wErk before I hang it and give it a swing. I just had to get something visible to wErk with and stop one more idea from rattling around in my head

Nice haul Vbwiley92 That's not just a SK ratchet, its a SK Wayne ! the best of SK.
I totally forgot it was an SK Wayne. I'll tear it apart next week and lube it. It was a party cool find as I had my 18 month old son with me. We're kneeling down, going through the bucket of sockets and he was making his own pile. Once I was done, he was pissed that I made him put his pile back. So I handed him the ratchet and he carried it up to the counter with a smile from ear to ear. He loves playing with the tools.

I found my 1 HP block by picking up a crappy looking, slow running grinder that was missing parts. Got it home and realized it had 8" wheels! Only $5 too!

I have found some really good deals in antique stores, best ones I can think of were a Wilton 1950's 5" bullet in good clean shape for $120 and a Wilton swivel jaw 350SJ for $100.

Top, what that going to be for? the Zombie Apocalypse?

Well I'm going to try it out on some straight grain oak and see how well it will split. If it works it will be lighter than my maul and save my shoulder some ache . But it could just get stuck... :dunno:

I have done good on some things also but you really have to be picky . Most recently I bought a old Peck Stow and Wilcox C clamp for 8 bucks gave it a light cleaning and painted the raised lettering and it sold for 90. I don't think I got that kind of deal today but I think I'll come out good enough to pay for what I am going to keep.

I think every one in my area knows I buy vise's so they never , I mean never end up in the local antique stores and most auctioneers know what I'm after as well. Some times it's good and others it's a curse...

Speaking of antique stores I had planned on hitting the few meager garage sales today but they cancelled due to rain today so I hit a few antique stores today. Not much out there for me but I did pick up 4 vintage Ford advertisements and a "Blitz" polishing cloth and a Cities Service small jackknife with Executive USA markings on one blade. The polishing cloth came in handy to clean up the knife a little. Spent about $16 after discounts.

Some of you know I really like Craftsman Crown label tools from the late 1950's - mid 1970's period and mint stuff makes my wallet thinner. I had a little extra cash so did a little shopping on Ebay. One thing I had wanted was one of the Crown labeled suction cup hobby vises and I found a nice one. He had some other Crown items as well with Make An Offer on them so I did just that, $100 for all four items including shipping. He shipped Wednesday and it got here this morning already Merry Christmas to me! I couldn't wait to get the package open. I opened it up to find some nice stuff, the vise which is in very nice shape, a barely used RasPlane in the box, a laminated plastics router trimming attachment in the box with the instructions and a nice tubing cutter as well.

.

Last nite's weekly auction with my adult son. Good times for sure. I Santa'd a few pieces to my son from this box and a nice gun case he wanted. Remainders pictured of this $40 lot. I'm pretty happy with the pile.

There was a lot of tools and testers for an electrician there. The Occidental leather goods were fine. One was new with tags. I always wish I had a time machine, right after many lots just finish one bid higher than my last bid. I should have bid harder.

I got 3 of these wire rolls for $7. Just cuz I thought they were too cheap.

. maybe the wire rolls are the first thing I feel like selling, eBay about $30 each I see today. Then maybe the misses may lighten up on me. Or maybe she won't.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Woot! Nice finds, ktmracer & bluebolt!

We're on the road for holiday travels. SWMBO and other females from her clan will go out shopping today. I'll try to do the same in antique and thrift shops with my son.

great job on the thread again this year guys! I wish I could of contributed more, but haven't had time. Still cleaning up everything I picked up in 2015! lol! I picked up a few things this year, but mostly concentrated on rebuilding my workshop.

Picked up a 1959 CMan 10" Radial Arm Saw with a power bronze 3 drawer cabinet.
A Power Bronze 1/2 HP Pre Block bench grinder
A early-50's 1/2 HP Pre Block bench grinder with pedestal stand
A 1958 Craftsman 10" Cabinet Saw
A 18" CMan Scroll saw on a pedestal
A 7 drawer Tanker Desk

And the misses and I got a new place, so we picked up a lot of furniture (and made some) that we refinished.... including adding Bluetooth to a 1960 Motorola stereo.

Hope the finds in 2017 are better than ever!

I frequently stop at the local auto U-Pull-It yards to see if there is anything there I can resell, usually Ford stuff but I will pick up anything that will make me a few bucks. Stopped at one a few days ago and there was an old Dodge Sweptline truck there, looked in the engine bay and there was an aluminum Weiand intake manifold on old "A" series poly head 318. A quick Google showed they were bringing over $500 on Ebay a few years ago due to the lack of aluminum intakes for this engine so I yanked it off quick and paid $38 for it. Got home and some more research showed there is a new and better intake out there for $650 so I guess I will probably get around $200-300 for this one. Still a good profit!

Ho, ho, ho! With SWMBO, my daughter and my mother-in-law or Christmas shopping, my son and I went picking. With no sales in the area (Chambersburg, PA), we resorted to retail establishments. We struck out at a Goodwill (no tools) and a ReStore (closed) but hit pay dirt at an antique mall. The first building was pretty empty of tools, but I found a vendor in the second building with nothing but tools, and priced reasonably. I came away with 24 DBE wrenches to add to my collection, including some brands and models that are certainly firsts for my wrench rack. At $68, I didn't get a steal, but you can't expect one at a retail establishment.

I'll do my usual detailed listing on the DBE thread, but here are a few pictures for this crowd:

BB, what brands are those two depressed-panel dbes? Look good.
I went to a "huge, multivendor indoor garage sale" this morning. Huge disappointment. Here's hoping the new year brings big bargains, sound health, and peace to us all.
Merry Christmas!

So I tagged along with the wife and SIL to an indoor flea this morning looking for antique kitchen items as a gift for another SIL. I told myself I wasn't going to spend anymore money since thats all I've done this month.
Well $43 later...lol...some Indestro wrenches and pliers also a much needed Craftsman vise and grinder.

Nice! Excellent haul for this time of year BB

Thanks!

Nice haul BB. You're going to need a new wall for your collection. [emoji38]

I've definitely outgrown Wrench Rack, V2. Time for V3.
