This space and the section to the right is where the old gent plied his trade.....

ft21.jpg ft22.jpg

Now, what they actually did here....I didn't ask....but.....there wasn't a workbench or horizontal space in that section that wasn't covered in junk and clutter........:wtf:

ft23.jpg ft24.jpg

This is the old man's toolbox......

ft25.jpg

Whether or not any of these other boxes were his......I wasn't allowed to pick thru them......:(

ft26.jpg

Finally.....here's the pile of free tools.....other than what I dug out, there was a lot of Pittsburgh, task force, no name imports and probably even a few more "gems" to be found.....but I'm happy with what I came away with

ft27.jpg

Sorry for the long winded post(s).....just thought you might like to see where you never know where you'll find "free tools"

I posted this on the DBE thread already, but am doing so here as well: I added to my giant Williams wrench collection with an Ebay purchase of this gal's little sister--a Williams 8045 Supperrench.

I now only need an 8053 to complete the top end on mondo Superrenches!

Man, I was proud that I picked up that "large" Williams DBE yesterday. Now I feel somewhat...inadequate... :willy_nil

Hit an estate sale yesterday, found these little items:
SKIL adjustable rip fence
3 3/16" carbide tip masonry bits
SK-WAYNE 3/8" Dr 6" extension
Coleman mantles, pkg of 2
18" hand box top tray, EC (for the next time I find a $2 box that's missing its tray)
14, 15, and 17mm Craftsman 1/2" Dr sockets with the knurling on the top (I've developed an affection for these).

All items USA. $5.30 tot.

I got to the truck, still thinking about a little unloved 1017 Kennedy I saw in the shed. Good condition except the bottom, where all the paint is gone and metal is rusted (but not anywhere near rusted through). I couldn't shake the thought WWND? Well, Nine would probably feed his 'fetish'. So for $12.50 it went home with me. I'll wire wheel and paint the bottom for preservation (not perfect looks) and put it to work as my vehicle electrical fab & repair box.

Yeah I have one similar with some rust on the bottom... I got some rattle cans of that spray bedliner and also undercoat stuff... was thinking of maybe taping off the bottom inch inside & out and spraying with that to protect it.

Thanks for that bedliner thought...that might work. I don't need to paint the inside, just the outside bottom and about 3/4" up the sides.

Sun came out for the weekend to visit, and I found a couple of slightly productive stops. I was too late (Exactly on time, so an early bird...) for an older aluminum frame WorkMate that was in the pics... Dang...

So stop one was one of my regulars, and I picked up an SK multi driver, SK and SO extensions, and some well made (Spain) cuticle cutters that were sharp and are handy for flush cutting so I grabbed them. $3 all

attachment.php

The stop I wasn't early enough for (another guy was also in he act of buying the tool and tackle boxes...) had this for $4:

Lots of 400 lb national pulleys with brass wheels and related hardware, A NOS 24V transformer, an 8 LB Craftsman splitting maul, full bottle of Murphy's, and a couple of new battery powered motion and daylight detecting LED lights. I may set these up for camping; Inside the privy would be good, and maybe one to shed some light on those "whats that noise" occurrences outside the tent area. Also good for those late night bio relief runs...

Away for the weekend, stopped into a good spot. $25 got me Bonney 1920s CV doe, Streamlined doe, soe, textile doe, Craftsman underline combi (my first), 18mm combi, Plomb dbe, Lectrolite Defiance O battery wrench, Zenel single offset dbe, and a Cman underline shortie dbe, plus Snappy 1/2dr single hex socket, and four 3/8dr sockets.
Trying to contain spending on this trip, so I left behind some Bonaloy some Proto LA and Plomb LA, a ****-ton of SK (for some reason this place puts a premium on SK), and a nearly complete Frank Mossberg socket set in a somewhat broken wood box). Maybe next time.

WWND, Nine would certainly feed the fetish for twelve fiddy.

Good scores guys! Merc was supposed to come help move my mill into the shop this morning but instead he forced me to go back to the hoarder inheritance sale from last week. I'll post up pics later but ask Merc what is precious and rhymes with "trickle jar". :lol_hitti

Yes, can't go wrong with a nice Kennedy.

Glad to see so many getting out.

I went to two estate sales today and it was like cabin fever mayhem! Luckily I went early and got a number and got in right away at the first one. Not much for tools but people were scarfing up EVERYTHING.

Like I said, not many tools but I was surrounded by women and jumped right in the kitchen goods. Got a sweet deal on two pieces of Cutco and a Wusthoff for 75 cents total!

There was one little tool box and a shelf of tools. I picked out some nice Craftsman hose clamp pliers and 6" adjustable, a long #2 Phillips, a Vaco flip driver, and a made in England strap wrench for $10.

Of to sale #2. I went out of my way to another madhouse and the tools were picked over and higher priced. The only thing I couldn't live without was another Craftsman 3/8 L handle & socket for $2.

Then off to the flea where I picked up a 3/8 Plomb extension, and decent Vlchek & Barcalo box wrenches all for $5.

No tools for me this week, but I'll make a tool connection anyway.
There was one sale down the street yesterday, but no tools.
The swivel rocker in the mancave had a catastrophic failure in December, so I've been on the lookout for a replacement. I found one at the sale, but it's a bit small and dainty for the cave.

They only wanted $15 for the chair (they had another one in better shape for $25), but I explained that I only needed it for parts, so they agreed to take $10 for it. :D

How does this relate to tools ? Well, I'll have to use my tools to make the switch, won't I ?
(OK, that was a stretch, but I haven't had anything to post here in a while and was starting to get twitchy)

I stopped at an Estate Sale around the corner from me. By the time I got to the tool room it had been gone over pretty well - judging form the mess.

I tucked away on a shelf was a bunch of office related materials - lot's of old school blank drawing pads with the rubber/glue holding the paper sheets. I then saw these 2 journals and when I saw the logo and inside cover I grabbed them. I'll show them to my Dad to see if he remembers them. I should have gotten the homeowners name - maybe my Dad knew him.

Cheers

Jim

Interesting. There may be some of those books hiding on my grandfather's bookshelf in his shop. He was with BL for 37yrs. I haven't gone through his books yet.

This is a gift from Merc, big ol 1-1/4" x 1-1/16 Williams! Thank You Merc!
7338756bce533823077447a698084fe2.jpg

Then first up from the sale today was ironically the last thing I picked up and almost had to leave there due to running out of cash. Merc covered my *** on this Millers Falls and the pack of 9" sanding discs in the other pics down there.
61e7c769c8837809b1b2f602b7aa7538.jpg

I walked right past these last week, this time another shopper pointed out that it was a nice setup for cleaning out your engine. After a quick google check, I tossed it in my lucky bucket and later found another without the box in another room so I packed it in the box too. They are Gumout applicators.
d688647ffdaee6b279b66fe67243179d.jpg

Nice **** load of NOS Milton air couplers and a cool old Weis card file box.
c275a0378839c853dfbfd95828a4fa75.jpg

NOS dewalt concrete bit, 9" sanding discs, Blue Point anti freeze tester, above that is two large packs of Tweco mig welding tips, a torch tip and a bunch of 8ga red crimp connectors. Couple NOS Kent Moore tools, small Bonney wrench(bent), large brass punch thingy, r-12, small foreign body dolly and this weekends excitement(or possible death of me), the cigarette loads!! :willy_nil
b8a3679bf38e1ad695d5721666ec5400.jpg

Here you'll see some grinding and cutoff wheels, diamond wheels, a cool saw Merc gave me from his pile, Paslode 16ga nails, ac tools, a performance part bracket, a cool flat blade Craftsman screwdriver with a knurled thumbwheel to operate the springs that hold a screw for you and what appears to be a NOS pack of Crown Top nut drivers!!!
e8652d018babd7ec66fa03c43cdd43d3.jpg

The bottom of the lucky bucket... I brought my reading glasses, a flashlight and the lucky bucket I bought all the junk in last week. Merc joked with the guy about wanting his deposit back for bringing the bucket back. Few more couplers, bunch of rolocks, sleeves of small bearings and a few loose large bearings(all NOS), couple hole punches, couple pocket knives, I dumped a few boxes of screws and rivets in there too. :D

Why is what I assume the v on that 1/4" ratchet smudged out ? I scored a very similar set with a flex driver at the end of last year was interested if it was part of the set.

Why is what I assume the v on that 1/4" ratchet smudged out ? I scored a very similar set with a flex driver at the end of last year was interested if it was part of the set.

I have several of these sets and they all have different ratchets so I'm not sure what the original set looked like.

Ah this is the set I got. Second pic is from a couple of days ago as no good sales have been on - a wooden handle western auto carbon no.2 Phillips I picked for a buck at the local pawn shop that has had some decent stuff. Had to throw in the screwdriver to make it a legit post as the set was end of last year.

I bet if you post the question of what the original set came with in the Vintage Tool section of GJ you will get someone who can answer it.

Album for higher resolution.

Proto and SK wrenches always seem to make up exactly 1 wrench in an otherwise entirely Craftsman tool chest. I could find only 2 SK sockets, 1 SK wrench, and 1 Proto wrench. Everything else was Craftsman, Kmart, JCPenney, Truecraft, and assorted Indian and Japanese wrenches with no names on them.

I looked it up on here and JCPenney-branded tools were SK-made and I should have got those along with the Fleet and Sparta I set down and had disappear while looking at something else.

- 1/2" Bon-E-Con ratchet
- 3/8" Craftsman Beam Torque Wrench
- Pony C-Clamp
- Renault-branded made in France double open-end wrench

Well I finally got nice weather and a weekend day off so I went to a big flea market an hour away. Several small tool tables and one huge vendor I could have stayed at all day!

Walked away with a buncha PLOMB from all over the market, then a small PARK toolbox full of stuff. Got it home and found it had a small black box I hadnt seen. opened it up to a brand new OS Thorson 1/4 socket set! Another had some 1/4 Husky stuff. Also found matching Thorson 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets! Turned out to be a good day and spent around $50.
