Whole lotta nothing going on anywhere near me this weekend, even along the route running my daughter back to school. Guess I'll spend today getting the garage and end of year finances in order. Happy New Year, all!

Not a tool per se, but ........

As I've mentioned before, my computer died a year ago, leaving me iPad bound. Yesterday afternoon I answered a CL ad for an Apple Mini for $50 (same as my dead soldier). Met up with the guy this morning. He used to be an Apple Tech and dabbles in rebuilding and selling Apples and had a few other choices. I ended up walking out with an upgraded 20" iMac for $200.

It pretty much wipes out what little spare cash I had left, but should be worth the upgrade. My luck with Mini's hasn't been good since moving into the new house. I've killed two of them in 5yrs. The last one cost me $500, which is why I stopped looking.

Hopefully, the data from my old computer can be retrieved, but I'll have to wait until Super Bowl Sundy to get it back.

In the meantime, I'm hoping to get set up to post multiple pictures again, get photos off my camera, sync my iPod, and start working on decal work for a few projects (hence the tool connection). :bounce:

Here's my first purchase of the year. Picked it up about an hour ago in north NJ.

Craftsman 397.19580 1/3 HP Grinder with stand.

I paid the asking price of $80. Basically I got a great deal on a stand and got a free grinder with it. Only issue is that the right hand wheel cover is missing. 8fa4b44dd0689bdaab207b011946f565.jpg

Nice "new" computer Jake! Those are pretty tough machines. If you need help getting the old data off your dead mini let me know. I have a good friend who can do it for free.

Thanks. The guy I bought the iMac from (in Methuen) could have retrieved the data as well. However, an hour before I contacted him, I had handed the dead computer to a family friend that was up for the new year. He lives almost 2 hours away and I won't see him again until he comes back up for the Super Bowl. He also works on Apples for a living. He just lives too far away for me to have bothered him before now, and there wasn't a point until I had something to put the files on.

Today I had the opportunity to visit the home of a family friend whose father passed away. He was a mechanical engineer, and over the years had amassed a decent workshop. Nobody in the family was interested in the tools, so she called me. Found a handful of items from around the shop, but what really caught my eye was the machinist box. Also got the Wilton Cadet that was mounted to his bench. I made a video too!

Went through the box and cleaned up a lot of the junk, but kept all the tools in the drawers as he had them. Fittingly, I found a label in the top left drawer with his name on it, which I have now applied to the box.

Wow, nice box Jeff! Really like the triangle design around the knobs. My first purchase of the year - from a CL posting. Picked up this NOS 3/8 SK SAE socket set for $35 in a blue molded case.

Great saves Jeff. The two black clamps should go to the V blocks.

Awesome that you got the Cadet too. I think that deserves some suckage. Way to keep the box with the name label.

Dngr that sure looks minty.

Can't wait to start the new year of garage sales and estate sales... just finished moving to the Philly PA area which should be great news for the Detroit MI buyers! Tool sales here seem to tougher to find but I've managed to pull out a few Snap-on and Mac pieces in the waning months of 2016. Setting up the new garage and then looking forward to hitting the sales!

Hit up a pawn shop to work on completing some sets. This stuff was 5$. Beleive it or not what i was looking for most was craftsman combo wrenches, still need a 1/4", but the 7/8 fills a peg on my wall. Tecomaster wrench too!

Today I hit up one spot I bop in on occasion. I had the tool hunting bug. :)

For about $24 I may have overpaid I now see.

Picked up a Pierce Arrow 15" adjustable made by Billing & Spencer. Unfortunately it is broken, used as a hammer and I failed to see that.

Unusual wrench marked "Pope Brace Company". Looks really nice. Not sure what it did. My research show Pope made leg braces and other medical related. What really got my attention is it was made by Williams. I took a picture of the diamond W.

Neat little Hopper 4 way wrench. Marked Buffalo, NY. I have a Hopper ratchet so had to grab this.

Craftsman older Linesman pliers.

A "you ****" deal for sure! I would have paid $10 for the ratchet alone!

Encrouching on my territory i see!! :D

No sales on the west side either, I am still working on finalizing the new house deal. Right now we are on to closing date so just waiting for all of the paperwork requirements and so on.

Reminds me, I need to get home owner insurance setup for the new house.

Pull out those Craftsman Crown label screw extractors and take a better pic Jeff! How many old padlocks do you want for them?

Jeff, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that box an SK?

Glad the family thought of you!

Man, it's lean out there right now. Only one sale and no auctions. The one sale had mostly **** for tools so all I could find was a hospital bed side table for $5.00. I'm thinking with my eye sight getting worse up close this may help me by bring small work up closer to the range of my vision. It collapses to 30" and extends to 46" and rolls around with a finger. Sorry about the side ways photos. :dunno:

There's a sale tomorrow that's packed full of tools, but I can't go.
Aside from a stomach bug, my bank account is empty so sales will have to wait until I find a new job.
View media item 38438This is just one of about 60 pictures of just the shop. :yikes:
If it wasn't so far away, it might be worth it just to watch the circus. :lol_hitti

My first finds of the 2017, 10 DBE wrenches. This came from the lady I am doing clean up work for so no money on my part, cleaning out the scrap which I get to keep the money from. Scrap is low right now but the goodies I find makes up for it. From top to bottom:
No name Forged In USA
Westline
Select Steel
Langline Ratchet
Underlined Husky
Craftsman shorty
3 Sears BF Japan wrenches
2 Companion made in USA wrenches

Oh man Jake, what a sale to miss. I feel you though, I have a severe head and chest cold and "low balance alert" on my bank account too... Hope you get over your bug soon, the rest will work itself out.

Good finds guys!

Had Thur and Fri off and not a single sale within 100 miles. Temps in the 20s and we got our annual 1/16 of an inch of snow this morning. I went scouring the junk and antique stores. Found a few sockets, pliers, and a screw driver worth bringing home.

Duro Indestro 9/16 deep socket 3/8 drive.
Williams 21/32 - 1/2 drive.
Plomb 9/16 - 1/2 drive.

OTC Owatonna Tool Co. - 10 inch pliers

Wood handled screwdriver, cant make out the name... anyone know it ?

Oh and a 2017 double cheese burger and fries to go!

all for $4 minus the food.
