Just picked this up today. Crescent Jamestown folding screwdriver. Marked Crescent Tool Co. NY, and 4 in. patented. Never seen one before, but I don't really collect Crescent either. My dad does, this is going to be a bday gift for him.

Never seen on of these before that I remember, nice find. A quick look on Ebay shows 3 different sizes at least were made.

I looked on ebay, and only saw one that looks identical to mine. Did you search completed auctions?

AA has a blurb about them in the Crescent section, looks like they were introduced around 1915.

2016 score but haven't posted this.

The New Britain ignition pliers are probably my favorite pair now. The ball-pein is a BluePoint.

Great score there Bryan. Hoping for prices like that in 2017. :)

That Crescent screwdriver is neat guys. I think I picked one up in the last year or two. Didn't realize the sizes there were.

Technically a pawn shop find, thanks to another GJ member for letting me know about them. Some Made in Germany SAE Stahlwille double open end wrenches. A couple odd sizes for only being 7 of them, like 25/32? lol...

$20 out the door, I didn't think that was too bad.

I like valve spring compressors. I fool around with a lot of vintage engines, and I have all sorts of configurations of these valve spring tools. This one is a Bridgeport No. 62. I paid $5 for it.

I know he will like it! According to AA, this (4") is the smallest size, the K24. There is a K25 and K26, the other two sizes bluebolt mentioned.

The patent is for a multi tool, in t handle mode you can hold screwdriver blade and use as a hammer. Made from 1914 til late 20s.

I've picked a couple over the years. The folding has two purposes. First is "T" handle of course. The second is a hammer. The top of the handle is solid and works as a small hammer. This was described in the patent. One I use to have had the pat. number. If memory serves me.. and it usually doesn't, I think the time frame was 1907? 1909? when these were first made

Just read further down the page and seen your post about the patent info.. 1914... My memory isn't very good lol

Picked this up this afternoon at the local thrift store for $4.25 ($3.18 actually....it was 25% off senior citizen day on Tuesdays!)

Like new Klein Tools 98005 Stainless Insulated 24 Ounce Beverage Hauler / Thermos

Other than being a little scuffed up on the outside, the inside looked brand new....didn't even have a funky smell

Another eBay purchase to finish out a set.

Craftsman (Crowntop) 8pc NC Rethreading Die Set #9-52111

I already have the 52112, 52113, 52114, 52115 sets sourced from estate sales, eBay, and a GJ member.

I felt like Richard Dreyfuss in "Let it Ride"... I have been having a very good day... :) Technically not "garage sales", these were pawn shop finds, but until the weather warms up the pawn shops have to suffice...

Started out at first pawn shop digging through sockets, found FOUR 3/8" 6pt Deep SK (technically one is SK Wayne) sockets that I've been looking for. Also found an old CMan 1/2" drive ratchet. Got a *decent* deal on them. I'm not sure if the rebuild kit will replace both the selector & button, I'm going to talk to a friend about that one of these days, it should look much better with those replaced. They had some serious CMan 3/4" drive breaker bars and such for a decent price, but I told myself "Nope, if something is that stuck I don't need to be messing with it right now." Plus I don't have any 3/4" drive sockets.

Next I went to Home Depot... Got 5 x 5lb boxes of 3-1/2" Deck Screws for .01 each... lol

Next was HF, needed some connectors, got a freebie too as always. Bonus was a cute checkout girl for once. Usually the employees are a little weirder than those at Walmart.

Also one of my items sold on eBay, I paid $10 for a 5th gen iPod in very cherry condition at a garage sale (very upscale neighborhood), and sold it for $115. Hehe... :)

As I was coming home I stopped by another pawn shop and started looking. At first I found a nice Williams USA speeder bar, but a cheap socket was REALLY stuck on the end. Now that I think about it, it might have been 1/2", I might have to go back and grab it tomorrow... But then I started looking at this old toolbox... Noticed a couple really old looking CMan ratchets... Old because no part numbers and their style... I was going to see how much they wanted for just the ratchets, then I started noticing all the old CMan sockets, speeder bar, 3/8" breaker (flex) bar, and more. Not to mention a whole toolbox full of more box-end wrenches, cold chisels, and other tools...

A bunch of those box-ends are Barcalo? I've never heard of them, looks like I get to do some research tonight.

The Ridgid I know is pretty old because of the style bit where the pin for the lower jaw goes through.

I had exactly $29 in my pocket but that was enough to buy it all! :) Everything is used but not abused, I'm happy with the find. I cleaned off a couple things before snapping pictures. Some of the tools had a good amount of crud on them, didn't pit the tool but a lot of rust like it reacted with something.

Bonus, I didn't even notice the brand of the toolbox until I was setting it in the bed of my truck... LMAO, figures though everything else was CMan...

The CMan sockets are 1/2" Drive 12pt from 7/16" to 1-1/8". Three are 3/8" drive, and one snap-on oddball... lol.

The 1/2 ratchet works fine, the 1/4 is stuck and looks like the switch broke off. I'm going to take it apart and see what I can do to get it working. I'm not really planning on using these but I do want to clean them up and have them looking nice.

Finally, I went to the store to buy a lottery ticket... lol Couldn't help it!

Jason, you **** on the Craftsman box and tools for $29!

It all balances out. To be honest I paid $20 for that ratchet & 4 SK sockets in the first picture. I know that was high but I got a good deal on the Stahlwille wrenches from them the other day... lol...

It was kind of funny, I was holding just those two old CMan ratchets in my hand thinking what they were worth, then I looked at the price for the whole tool box so I threw them back in and grabbed it all! Haha...

The ratchets are stamped with the "U Circle" which I found out means they were made by Plomb / Pennens, for Craftsman. Date range is around 1944-1948, originally designed for the war effort. I know the 1/2" definitely is not chromed. I didn't take that good of a look at the 1/4", it was in so much better shape though.

I'm thinking I will sell the toolbox, I don't really have a place for it just to sit around and do nothing, my garage is limited. It doesn't make sense for me to try and store just a few tools in it when I have larger rolling tool chests.

As for the tools, I'll probably go through them tomorrow. What couple little things I might not want/need I'll probably give to my friend that doesn't have many tools.

It's kind of sad because you know this had to be some old man's toolbox that passed away, and somebody just took it to the pawnshop for some quick cash. At least now it ended up in good hands. :)

Of course tomorrow is Friday the 13th, so I don't know if my luck will hold out. I should probably stay inside to be safe.

I don't seem to be able to find the time to post in the GS thread as often as I used to, so forgive me if half of these are from 2016 and half from 2017.

Billups / Your Friend Oil Cans. Not pictured is another uncommon (not sure if I dare say rare, as I'm not an expert) AllState ATF can.

These are probably my biggest score to date. The garage sale I hit up and bought a number of things, previously mentioned here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6090085&postcount=6358

...had another sale a week or two later. I went back by, mostly to shoot the breeze with the guy. He was moving some things around and clearing out the unsold / unwanted items and he offered me my choice of the remaining hardware. It was held in a wide array of glass jars, metal cans, bins, boxes, etc. I initially passed but after helping him consolidate everything and carry a bunch of things to the curb (so the house could sell), he told me to take what was left as he was closing up shop. So I filled my truck bed with the remainder. When I went through it I noticed that there were four pretty neat old oil cans. I started to put them on CraigsList for a few bucks but thought better of it and tried my luck on eBay. I'm glad I did, as they sold for a tidy sum.

WP_20161122_21_15_51_Pro.jpg

Milwaukee 30019 dolly; I paid $3 because "those damn tires don't hold air". Well, they do hold air and the thing looks brand new. I'm not sure what issue the previous owner had, but it works well and is USA made. Only problem now, is that I have too many of these.

WP_20170112_23_18_28_Pro.jpg

Random lot from a garage sale last weekend - $5. I was after the (new as far as I could tell) LeatherMan SideKick and certainly wan't going to try to haggle at that price.

WP_20170112_23_15_43_Pro.jpg

Delta 6" jointer. A little rough; I can't remember if I gave $40 or $50. Still probably too much but I mostly bought it for the stand.

WP_20170112_23_18_04_Pro.jpg

Pauluhn P-28 industrial brass light. Appears to have never been used. It was included with the jointer.

WP_20170112_23_14_16_Pro.jpg

Miller MultiMatic 200 - $500. Brand new, just a little dusty. I had been planning on buying a MillerMatic 211 new the next time Zoro had a 25-30% off coupon, but this popped up on a new (to me) app called OfferUp. They seem to have mostly junk for sale, but there's definitely less competition than CraigsList.

WP_20170112_23_17_00_Pro.jpg

Palmgren / Craftsman 8" rotary cross-slide table. Now I'd been looking for one of these for a while, ever since Nine snagged this one that I was glad to assist with:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5348734&postcount=6644

I paid $190 shipped for it. Between the seller not packaging things as well as they should have, and USPS giving it the ol' luggage test, the handles / wheels were damaged in shipping. I filed a claim with USPS and was given the standard $100 that Priority Mail packages are insured for. I then set out to find replacement handles, however no Palmgren distributors seemed to carry replacement handles and I couldn't find anything that matched or would definitively fit elsewhere. I sat on it for a while and finally called Palmgren to see if I could order replacement parts. After explaining that it was a Craftsman branded unit (though with a Palmgren stamped PN), I was not the original owner, and it was damaged in shipping (not through use), they told me that it had a lifetime warranty and that they would happily ship me a full set of replacement handles. Now the replacements weren't as pretty as the originals, but certainly more functional and fit properly. I can't say enough about Palmgren and if I ever have the opporunity or need to purchase anything new from them, I will certainly do so without hesitation. So all in all, I got it for $90.

WP_20170106_21_57_35_Pro.jpg

WP_20161229_14_45_22_Pro.jpg

Yale 5,000 lb pallet jack - $100. I've had to rent one of these twice in the past, to the tune of $50-$70 apiece, so I figured it was time to pick one up. This was also partially due to needing to move Nine's new mill into his shop, once he's over the bubonic plague that descended on his household last week.

Holy excrement, Merc!!! I just went and looked up your completed auction on Ebay! Your "tidy sum" find is on the same plane as Outlaw's $5 tool box full of Snap-on from last year! !!

YOU ****, BIG TIME!

Well found and well sold!

After missing out on a large tool sale last week, I had to get out of the house.
Went to a generic estate sale this morning. Got there about 1-1/2 hours after they opened.
I don't think I missed much. Most of the tools were cheap junk with a few Craftsman thrown in.

Spent $5 on :
Blackhawk (USA) #34983 19" 3/8dr socket extension
Wallboard Tool Co. #AC-31 drywall circle cutter

That's it, but at least I got out of the house. :dunno:

Well, I braved the snowpocalyps in Portland yesterday to go pick this up:

It had been up on CL for about 3 days with no takers suprisingly, but we aranged to meet and I swooped. It was full of tools, most junk, but a surprising amount of goodies; Snap On, Crafstman, Proto, MAC, Blackhawk and Bonney.

That is just some of what is in there, as we emptied a few drawers into boxes for loading into the wifes Subaru.

We settled on $200 for everything. Now, I need to slide my 10 drawer top underneath and move my '30's roller along to someone new, along with take all the misc. **** to the restore.

Happy a GJ member got it. It's been listed on CL for $250 for more than a week, but my budget wouldn't allow it this month. If you decide to sell that box down the road, pm me!

I would have to say this is even above Outlaw's $5 box.

It may be the best "You ****" of the year. And the year is very young!

Yes, he does ****. Technically it was last year but either way, it's going to be hard to beat that score for a while I bet...

Merc, If it's cool, I'll just buy this blue hand truck you loaned me so that's one less you'll have to worry about. It was brand new, just let me know what IOU. IDK if I'm going to mess with the one you gave me with the bad tire, may let Benny have it if you don't want it back. What's that leave you with, like 2-3 now? :D
