This is my first time using Tapatalk, so I hope the pictures work out. I went around to several of the Restores in my area this week,
At the first one I found some machinist pieces, 2 reamers and assorted pieces of tooling, all for about $5.e037cd49757bbef3c6d3d3eb1f6ce2e4.jpg
At the second one I found a 3/4 EMT conduit bender, a Craftsman Tubing bending set with some flaring parts, a Klein iron worker wrench, a Ford wrench, and a couple random small wrenches, a drift pin, a ratcheting crank- all for about $28.836e832470f1f12e265852d5c677a411.jpg
e467891ec749faf965268e1f7c74df0f.jpg
At the third stop, I found a Milwaukee Hole Hawg, with working steel case and several bits for $35.
At the last one nothing.bc2750eb7c994cbeabf9f730bd55915e.jpg
I also paid $40 to a shop that was closing down for steel table frame with steel casters. It is 40"x60" by 36" tall.
I am the guy on Garage Journal with no real garage, I have a workshop set up in my basement and there is no way this thing is making it down there.
I am dreaming of building a work shed and in the meantime this might be my outdoor welding table. I could also build one hell of smoker on it or simply list it on the D.C. Craigslist as a Steam Punk kitchen island base for $2000.

put some old fence boards on it and call it a "retro industrial coffee table" and you could definitely get $3000

You **** on that Milwaukee score!

Yep, I found some good things up in the cobwebs of dead guys' basements and garages. I know I hide good stuff there.

!

BB, you gave me a laugh with your dead guys comment, I'll often refer sales that way.

I think I've found more stuff digging than stuff displayed on table. I'll often go through and will get things I targeted, pay and put in truck.
Then a second round just taking my time going through the bowels of a garage.

A bit of dark humor, to be sure. Sometimes I find myself wishing I'd had the chance to meet the owner of the place I'm rummaging through and heard the stories of how they acquired their tools and what they did with them.

Of course, I know some of them would have been shouting "Hey! Keep your paws of my stuff and get the hell out of my garage! "

I thought the same thing and sometime I'd asked the seller about the previous owner. When I had this one lady tell me that the previous guy was "A ******* *******" I quit asking. But i got a good deal that day on the A-hole's tool!

Picked up this old grinder from an old shop that was closing down yesterday a few towns away. I bought it out of the back of a local dealer's pickup. I hesitated at first since it was a 3-phase machine, and the local dealer/ebay seller bought it. Still ended up paying less that the sticker on it, so I was good with that. I figure I could put a VFD on it, slow it down to 1750, and use it as a buffer. The tag reads "The United States Electrical Tool Co., Cincinnati, Ohio" should look good cleaned up. I'll post some more pics up in the vintage grinder thread a little later.

Some good scores guys. I've got an itch to score some deals unfortunately there aren't any to be found around these parts at this time of year :(

Today's estate sale looked more promising than it turned out to be. I did find a little Diamond K15 slip joint like new, and a real Bundt pan for College Girl's eventual kitchen (I already have my grandmother's). $5.00

Just got back from my first sale of 2017, was looking like it was gonna be a bust. Was only about 10 minutes from my house, so not a real big deal. But on a second pass thru an old chest and roll away, I found this gem. Looked around some more, found the qt. of Mobil 1. How much I asked? $3. he said.

What a great score. I helped the guy get it out of the shop and load it, we plugged it in and it runs perfect. I am so happy he bought it as it was destined for the scrap yard if nobody bought it.
I would have jumped on it but have no room now for it.
Ill bet there are not many of them out there.

Ooooh, nice catch on that Craftsman. Never seen one of those in the wild, let alone any ratchet with the Butterfly selector. It's one of those items on my "would overpay list".

Yeah YOU DEFINITELY ****! RAGTOP! In all my travels I still have not seen one in the wild either. Nor any other speed ratchet. They do pop up for sale enough online though. :headscrat I feel the odds are I will see something soon. Whether or not affordable, that's another story.

Waggoner You have some great luck with Snap On. You must be the king of boxes.

Way to go everybody!

Pulled my trailer and was able to get the rest of my stuff on the second trip. Bigger items on this load and lots of projects. Total cost on this pic is $700. I already sold two aircraft tires for $150 for the pair so it's looking like I'm going to come out all right. There's a large amount of prints and oil paintings to handcrank phonographs to combination phonograph radios all in nice wooden cabinets. A couple of boxes crate and buckets full of old wrenches, Williams, Herbrand and others. Fishing Lewers, Axes, China hand painted dishes. Many things I never deal with so this is a learning experience for me.

topop, check out this thread on OWWM http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=178678 Looks like a match to your third pic.

I can't view that page because I'm not a member. But the post drill is a Canton. It's going to need a bath. But I think it's complete . I haven't looked it over hard yet though . Here's a few more pics of a few items I dug out last night after getting back. A few odd things and an interesting locking device. Couldn't find any markings on it, hoping Jeff knows something about it

Top that last pic lets you turn a 2x into a "bar clamp" Nail on a block for the other end. (they may have had a sliding/gripping piece for that)

2nd to last is a Vulcanizing clamp for patching inner tubes.

Cool Stuff!

topop, sorry thought only the classifieds over there required membership, thought the rest of the site was open to lurkers. Anyway, that tool is used by wheelwrights to make wood spoked wheels. Here's a pic that was posted in that thread.

Went to an estate sale today, was number 67, but came at with two bags. Prices were a little high.
These canvas grocery bags are great, I really put theme to the test today.

Here's a general overview.
cdd8e1c5355a2bc7bd46cc7545d53383.jpg
Larger ball peins, ones a bluepoint., nice soft face hammer, like new. Various others. Three quick release tool holders for the lathe, one is for a boring bar. Two sets of brand new drill bits, a big forged c clamp, some items I don't have a clue to what they are. A set of hole punches, Diamond tin snips. A set of body dollies that I picked up for another member.
A couple of SO punches and chisels.

Man it was a tough choice today. I knew one garage sale out in a rural area would have a bunch of tools, but it was really far away and no pics. Another was closer and had good pics. So we went to the closer one first. My neighbor made out like a bandit! Two free lawn mowers, one Honda engine, other Briggs. A heavy duty 3-wheeled pressure washer with honda engine. And a snow blower... I think he only paid $5 for all that. He also got a little mcculloch arborist chainsaw & an 18" poulan pro for like $10. A new and hardly used Dewalt circular saw, and some old all-metal heavy circular saw (B&D?) for a couple bucks... and I don't even remember what else... We went though this little shed that he had locked and said nothing was really in there... it was a freaking gold mine!

Got the 5gal pail of unopened boiled linseed oil for free.. That's a couple lifetime supplies for me... lol. I got the old Cman lower toolbox for $35. The Polish vise cost me. I got a bunch of old Cman tools and stuff I will post in a bit. Lots of good stuff in the back seat of my truck.

This is just the teaser...

Oh yeah, we finally went to the other sale that was like 40min away... A guy from Kansas came with a u-haul trailer and bought a ton of tools! Apparently earlier in the day they sold a rolling toolbox full of CMan tools for $40!!! ARGH! I did managed to get a Homelite 340 chainsaw for $25, and a few other deals...

And the owner was probably thinking "Man; those guys just "PAID me to clean out all that junk from my shed?" :wtf:

That's not so meager this time of year:

Today and probably this WE is a rain out again. This Jan is WAY over the normal for the total of Jan, and its expected to rain through Monday...

Oh well, We definitely need the rain, but I'm betting on more land/mud slides this weekend... I lost an 8 ft section of fence day before yesterday, and a neighbor had their front yard tree drop in their drive and the street... They were lucky it didn't hit the cars usually parked there...

In reply to Outlawmws... Yeah he wasn't charging for stuff in the shed, just glad to clean it out. There were a few gems in there that we left them and told him to stick with the other stuff that he could sell for good money. But all that small engine stuff my neighbor will tinker with and sell on CL. He's 77, I think people give him a little break when he starts to haggle and such. He's my secret weapon to bring to these sales! :lol_hitti

Okay, first few pics... I thought of my other neighbor, got him a 5gal pail full of golf balls & tees (for free!). Bernzomatic torch set, guessing from 1966 or 1967 considering you could get a special deal on a Kodak that offer expired on June 30, 1967 (Darn, just missed it!). If it's collectable I'll sell it, otherwise I've been needing a little torch set like that. Old box of Ideal wirenuts, with a few orange nuts in there. Free for those too. And a Craftsman ball peen hammer! I think I paid $2 for that.

More pics and info next post...

Old Craftsman =V= stuff. They had some sockets there but were really too high. These were kind of on the high side, but those are the old ones with the oil ports. The ratchets I will keep, the extensions I will probably sell.

Also got a nice mixed set of Craftsman & Artisan USA punches! And a good sized CMan screwdriver for $1

Various files were free.

The lower CMan toolbox I paid $35 for. It's in okay shape, now I can stick that Waterloo top on it for the time being until I find a matching top.

OIL CANS! LOL... After seeing the Billups I couldn't ignore these and did a quick eBay search. FYI, they paper, not metal sides and STILL HAVE OIL IN THEM. Anyone need to do an oil change? :willy_nil You don't even want to know what I paid.
