The FPU vise I paid $120 for, I know kind of high but it was heavy, they were giving away so much other stuff to us, and this is like a vise desert in this area so I'll take what I can get within reason.

The come-along was from the 3rd sale we hit, it was labeled $5 but bundled in with other stuff for less.

A basket full of shop rags. Always need those.

A 5 gallon bucket of boiled linseed oil! It was free, I think I'm still regretting taking this as wtf am I going to do with 5 GALLONS WORTH?!?!

The following (along with the come-along) was from the 3rd sale we went to.

1-1/4HP Craftsman router with some bits. Looks in really good shape, couldn't pass that up.

Homelite 340 w/20" bar. Looks well used but if it runs then it's going on CL.

Fish tape, couple chisels, and a file, and a dryer vent... Kind of bundled in with the router and come-along... lol. Basically freebies.

2nd sale we went to was just down the street. Prices were high so passed on most things. Neighbor got a weedeater for $3. I got the two can of propane. Oh, he also got a huge can of carpenter pencils from the 3rd sale for $1 and we split them. lol

Tomorrow I plan on going back to that first estate sale, there's a few more things I want and hopefully he will be willing to deal if they haven't sold. Likewise the 2nd sale with high prices I might check in tomorrow and see if they will deal or if I have to wait till Sunday for 1/2 price... Finally there is a Saturday-only sale with some tools I'm planning on going to, no pictures unfortunately but fingers crossed.

A murky photo of tonight's visit to Automania event at the Allentown Fairgrounds. This isn't really representative of the majority of what's there - couple vintage autos, tons of parts, vintage and repro signs, bigger and more valuable tools. Just what I was picking with a low spending limit.
$10 admission plus $19 spent at vendor tables: a 1x15/16 Barcalo dbe, a miscellany of Bonney wrenches, Crescent S47 snips, Kreuter slipjoint pliers, two Bonney CV A-sockets, a Snap-on FU16A flexocket, a ⅜ Ideal Corp nutdriver that looks like a Stanley, two Bonney screwdrivers, a North Bros Yankee ratcheting screwdriver w 1897 & 1901 patent date stamps, a turnscrew, and four SK screwdrivers.
The "new" Bonney screwdrivers are at bottom of pic - the top one shows how much was ground off the tip of the middle one.
The three Bonney shield wrenches are from 1906-1920; the one on the left (with ground gullets but no "Bonney" or size stamps) being from the later end, and the two on the right from the earlier end.
The unfinished Bonney CV wrenches never had their gullets ground, nor size markings or "Bonney" stamped on them, but I think the forged-in S year code on both (no pic of the reverse side) is probably 1927.

Picked up these two sets this week at my favorite pawn shop. A 5 piece set of Mountain long flex DBE and a 12 piece metric set of the original style Gearwrenches. I'm adding to my metric tools for future use. Could not pass them up for a total of $42.40 out the door for both sets.

ANOTHER WILTON! BNIB!

Ok, not a real Wilton. Got a few Shop Kings and I know they don't count either.
I couldn't resist this estate sale little guy-brand new, still in the box! Not a mark on it, never bolted down. And I only paid a few bux more than it cost new!:bounce:

I went out to walk the dog, the neighbor across the street was having a yard sale. Can't get any more convenient than that.

Greenlee hacksaw
two quality needlenose, cutting jaws not chipped, one has knurled handles, which my 3 year-old grandson will tell you, "knurling gives you good grip!"
side cutters marked H BOKER & CO USA
nipping pliers w/replaceable jaws, no chips out of them
a large 11/16-3/4" box end combination wrench, the boxes are nicely machined and are thick-walled and over 1" deep. The stamping says, 15278BR. No clue.
what feels like a 16 oz. ball pien hammer, I'm soon off the the hardware store for a handle
10" Channel-locks #420, good and tight action
a rough-surface finish serpentine wrench, went right into my bookshelf cabinet for display
Inweld 1 lb 6013 alloy welding sticks for mild steel
vintage linoleum cutter, original box, also placed into the bookshelf cabinet for display. Labelled Speedball Linozips #37 assortment. I like old original boxes.
All for $19.

Another stop netted a 'crown' label Craftsman toolbox (crenellation/merlon style), complete w/the tool tray. The box is complete, but rusty, surface rust only, no rust-through or pinholes, and the latches are all-there, and functional. I bought it because it had the tool tray, and that was in very good condition. At some point, I'll buzz-down the paint, and probably use red oxide primer, and a grey color-coat to make it rust-resistant. It had a lot of brass sprinkler heads, I gave those back to the seller and they gave me a better price on the box. There were some quality screwdrivers including a narrow-straight tip Snap-On, a pair of slip-joint pliers that had a MaC initial inside a diamond shape, not too-sure whose those are, but the action was tight, so I'll keep it. A scraper I'll clean up a bit, but the edge was in good shape. All for <$5.

ALL: another addition to DRIVESITFAR'S HOME HARDWARE STORE to help me GET ORGANIZED.

this might also help me cure my FSD (flat surface disease) cause it will hold all those misc. sized parts.

i had one of these before that was in pretty rough shape and i was trying to find a spot for it when a friend offered me a trade for something that i needed more and i've been looking for another one ever since. i thought i owned the biggest version so when i showed up at the seller's 60x90 shop to pick it up i almost left cause i could barely lift a level off. i actually didn't have my trailer either cause the last Lyon one i had fit entirely inside my HONDA PILOT.

this one is 4.5 feet wide and about 6.5 feet tall and i'm guessing it weighs close to 600 pounds. instead of passing on it and disappointing the seller that needed room for one of his cars i went back and grabbed a trailer (1.5 hour round trip) and he helped me load it. i managed to get it unloaded cause my neighbor came over to visit about that time, but i think i can put it together by myself as soon as i clear a spot for it.

the top bins might just fill up with casters since i have a ton of them and i have another ton of huge Nuts & Bolts so hopefully i won't need 2 of these rotating bins.

cheers and hope you are all having a great weekend

@lesserson I thought about going up to the Automania, but it's a 4 hr one way trip for me. Looks like it would have been fun!

i@Drivesitfar, nice catch, that thing is HUGE and will hold a lot of stuff.

@ssffnomad Could not settle on just one brand, had to get them all? What no Snap-on?

Nice picks to everybody.

@BFBOB A Wilton from Penneys?

Nice little pile, driftpin. My guess on the box end wrench is a tractor tool. I recently bought a Farmall wrench made by P&C that was made to ride in clips on an old tractor. Send me a PM if you want to flip it.

Cheers!

I stray a little bit from the majority of the garage sale posts but here's what I picked up yesterday.
I did find it on the local garage sale pages just for the record.
2008 f-350 6.4 diesel 133k miles. They used the back half of the cab to make a 6 door conversion. This truck still ran and drove. Started right up. It was 15 minutes away. I paid $2200 for it. I plan to either find a truck with a bad 6.4 motor and put this one in it or sell the truck whole.. which I already have a $4500 offer on the table for it...

The way I had it loaded on the trailer in that picture seemed plenty far forward. Once I got going down the road I couldn't go over 35mph without it fish tailing bad. Had to move it up another foot or so and then it drove straight as an arrow.

First sale of the season for me, just around the corner in my town. I knew it wouldn't be a honey hole, but there were a few tool boxes pictured that warranted a look-see.

Nothing much, as expected, but did find the biggest paid off scissors yet, a no-name brand, 13 inches long, for a buck!

I look at scissors like tape measures: you can never have too many. Here are a few of my bigger ones, with the new one.

Stopped by the last day of an estate/garage sale this morning. All for $20. Not that I needed any of it, but I have spent much more than that for a single long 17mm Allen from S-O before. The largest in this batch is 5/8". The S-016 filters are discontinued, so I figured someone I know may need/want them if I don't use them (have a use myself) and the belts will get used somehow eventually, I'm sure. The weeding tools I use for trim and upholstery clips. The plane is USA-made (embossed in casting of shoe), though I don't know by which company yet. The "File-A-Way" general use 4-drawer unit is just neat, and I have never seen another one before. The wooden gavel will be used as a lightweight mallet for tapping in bronze bushings or whatever (it was 25 cents- not like I wasn't going to grab it!). Cake pans I use all the time for all sorts of tasks, and the larger one here is especially thick... may even be an old small roasting pan, though I'm not sure since my cooking expertise stops at burning cookies. Tin snips... 50 cents. Fifty. Cents. Amazing what a little rust will do to keep others away from tools!

kansei, many oil filters have the same thread and gasket area, so can often be used in something else as long as the housing isn't hitting something (I always go to a bigger filter on mu DD rig that stock...), you can also use them for solvent tank filters by adapting a remote oil filter adapter.

Nice finds all!

I had a "rain day" so only one Estate sale surfaced:

Small P.S.&W. Co. (PEXTO) Duckbills on the left, Dunlap Needle-nose on the right Armstrong (gas?) wrench, Ratcheting Versatool that may go in the Coleman lantern repair/rebuild kit I'm making up, and lastly, Long C Craftsman DBE's. I'm liking the smallest "long" one with its thin offset heads... Two bucks all...

I stumbled across these hardware store bins that someone was throwing out.

Pic 1 is the entire set - less 2 bins.

IMG_0826_zpsl1ew1pju.jpeg

Pic 2 is one of the frames less the bins to show the internals.

IMG_0827_zpsvtffstwu.jpeg

They are dirty and dusty and I don't need them so I'm planning on flipping them for cheap.

Cheers

I was outside all day cleaning and puttering. Made it by the flea in time for a few goodies. Managed to spend just 9 bucks too.

Let's see,

RAY 1/2 SPEEDER and socket

Cornwell drain plug socket

Interesting Carl Walter socket. It's a German brand, this socket resembles old radio sockets that used to come in a cheap tool kit. I found a Pexto socket of that type before.

Proto Offset open end wrench. I think these are for fittings, very thin and light duty.

Two male x male 1/2 extensions. One is Hinsdale with the logo stamped, the other no logo, maybe a Duro?

S-K 1/2 U-JOINT

Williams 1/2 parts ratchet. The ratchet is missing 5 teeth sadly, glad I only paid a buck. Someone must have ripped on it with a pipe because I rarely ever see these broken like that. Worth it for the plug though.

Snap On long flat blade

Bunch of garden tools for $10, sledge needs a new handle though.

A couple hand-impact tools, slide bars, old USA Channellock, some extensions, a couple CMan chisels, and a 40oz blue-point ball-peen hammer.

I thought this tube of Lubriplate was interesting. No. 630-2, I haven't looked it up. Grease looks okay inside, but I doubt I will use it for anything.

5 various snap-on socket stuff, paid $5 for them. The 1/2" extension has a hand engraved USAF on it? Did the air force use snap-on?

Jason you've been on a roll man. There's a guy here who used to command top dollar for any old garden tool at the flea market. He would hardly ever take a penny less than asking price. You know, in the summer when people need them around here he seemed to really have everyone by the balls. Still better than retail but I could never buy anything from the guy he was tough. He would probably drool over that pile of tools.

Anyways, I would guess that extension could have been engraved by someone in the Air Force tool room.

I bought a gallon of evapo-rust at TSC and have been cleaning up various tools lately. Some things turn out amazing like they had no rust on them to begin with, some things it's kind of heart breaking like old CMan wrenches & sockets that now have pits. One USA socket (it's not that old IIRC) I'm pretty sure I'm just going to have to **** up and exchange for a chinese one. You can literally peel the chrome off in long strips. The inside is horrible, and the drive side has been wallowed out some too. I guess one out a whole pile of tools isn't bad.

Those old cman ones from that toolbox I got at a pawn shop a while back I put in to clean the rust out of the inside. Turned out beautifully! It was just a little surface rust that didn't mess anything up. They look brand new like in a 1940's catalog...

I went to an estate sale today and they had a NICE little woodworking shop under the house (on a hill). Lots of old craftsman equipment, but all really BIG. He had a nice 4" CMan belt/disc sander and a 1" Delta belt sander (though it sounded kind of rough), I got him to $60 for the pair he wouldn't go $50 though... I'm kind of wishing now I bought them as that was a good deal, but in reality they would probably just be sitting on a shelf most of the time and used maybe once a month, so it's probably better that someone else got them that would use them more. Can't hog all the deals!

Cool finds 3bay! did ya see the Hinsdale socket set I got last week ?

Holy Christ!! ( no disrespect meant..) that thing is massive!! I occasionally search for a Rota-bin--but that is way too much!! Cool though!

So I got three pairs of these today. They're Grip-Ons, made in Spain, labeled RR-55. I found that Blue-Point rebrands Grip-Ons in green, but I can't find these particular pliers anywhere. Anyone know what these are for? I'm thinking an adjustable spanner wrench of some sort..

HOBBIES, 3Bay, Hemi, BMW: thanks for the KUDOS and even though this thing is HUGE i really do have the stuff to fill it up and then some. it will be nice to see stuff in the bin and not have to find it in a box or bucket or drawer.

BMW & Dodge: i had a vintage benchtop version and it really was in my way and with the smaller slots it really just didn't work for me so i traded it for something else probably a vise or box of tools.

ALL: i was missing a drawer for one of my 3 AddressOGraphs so found this one that had a few missing drawers and 79 good ones the exact size. even though the handle is a bit different i now will have 3 that have all their 133 drawers each.

did i mention i like metal cabinets and old cast iron?
