Yesterday's CL purchase an early model Ford flathead V8 engine. Pretty much complete except for carb and a few pieces. It was a cheap deal but I took the risk knowing it does not turn over. The price was right and I've always wanted to learn about these by taking one apart. So it will be an education even if it never runs again.

Went to yard sale on 2/11/17 and got a few items.

Pic 1--3 in 1 oil, gallon of winterized windshield washer fluid, unopened lamp wiring kit, Boy Scout Handbook and Fieldbook (1967 1969), banner/poster/glass Chalk Markers, wire brush, Stanley bevel gauge, paint brush, air gauge.


Pic 2 & 3--Mechanical pencil erasers in tins by Sheaffer's, but you will see a clear plastic underneath slide on one of them in Pic 3 instead of the metal that the others have.

Pic 4 & 5--Eversharp Red Top Lead in cardboard like containers, so not as old as metal ones on earlier Mfg models. 3 of them are just black/red and are Hard Std for lead and sold for 15 cents. The Red/White/Blue was marketed for V-Mail during WW2 and sold for .25 cents and lead was marked as V Mail Std. All containers have 1-3/8" lead.

Your right on erasers but in their thriftiness, the containers had some used ones also in them.

Went to an estate sale today... Found a few decent things while rummaging around the garage. Prices for stuff they marked were high so most I passed on, but a few I just couldn't say no to...

First up, a buttload of golf balls for my neighbor. $13 (there's one more box I forgot to photograph). Some were still new in box, some were well used. Lots of tees in there too. I hope he will be happy for that price.

Coleman cooler, $3... I found that last week actually. Needs a new drain plug is all. Was really clean inside. Sprayer I think I found for free.

Almost full can of mineral spirits, $2 (my can was almost empty, that stuff is getting pricy at the stores!). Craftsman file in pouch, craftsman combination square, chalk line reel that needs a little TLC (free), and a free brush.

A nice old craftsman hand plane, in original box and manual! Looks barely used, just a little surface rust in a couple spots.

Bernzomatic torch tip, PM propane bottle probably 1/2 full, and a couple spools of solder & solder flux.

Found a little giant work bench and brand new Wilton 300 on Craigslist. I painted the legs and put casters on it. The vise needed saving from the elements - needed minor cleaning as it had been left outside for a bit and got some surface rust on bottom and side of jaws. $150 for all.

I purchased a K-55R from craigslist for $60 with tools. I athought the ad was fake at first, it said email only. A 70 year old gentleman said it was his FIL that was a mechanic. Going to put it on top of my KR-790 or Body King roller.

Finally after a long winter with no sales I got to hit a few today.

Picked up this craftsman circular saw and a small pair of channel locks and a brass plumb bob for 15$.

Anyone know who actually made this saw for craftsman? And about what year?

Just a shout out to anyone in the greater Seattle area that May 13, 2017 is the West Seattle Garage Sale. There are usually over 300 garage sales and it is quite the event! Put it on your calendar!

Take a look at the pic to see what that means density-wise. (Map from last year.) We've lived here 4 years now and just walk around about a 4 block radius from our house and go to 15-18 sales. In 2014 we participated as a seller and it was crazy. Last year I got a full slide-pull hammer set for $20.

I can't help too much on the year, I just know that my dad had one just like that in the 80's. Knowing my dad, he probably bought it used, or traded something for it, but it was probably not new when he got it.

My guess is later than '76, as that was about when they started to phase out the crown-top craftsman logo for [Sears][Craftsman] logo.

I dragged myself outta bed, figured it was too late with all the early birds as I had seen a long Sanp-On box and other stuff people would want. Got there 5 till go time. bout 25 people ahead of me. Everyone started in and went the wrong way I went the right way and was third in the shop. picked up some descent stuff.

Not as good a haul as you guys, but at least I'm on the board this weekend.

Found a sale near me this morning that started at noon. Not much for tools, but they had a really nice high end faux marble pool table w/matching cue rack for only $1500. It would have been sweet in the mancave, but I don't have that kind of spare cash and there was no way I was going to try to lift that monster to move it.

As I said, the tools were sparse but there were a few pickers in the pile.
Spent $10.

Yep, one thing I've learned is to ask the other person how much first... Sometimes they will just say "a dollar" or some ridiculously low figure. Have to keep a straight face... Of course my 77yr old neighbor would reply with "50 cents"... lol...
