Sometimes a little luck helps you find a sale. A friend invited me to meet for lunch at one of our favorite places last Thursday. On the way there I saw a sign for an estate sale so I stopped on the way back around 1 PM. It had started at 830 that morning so it ahd been picked over already but still found some goodies. Prices were mostly reasonable for the first day of a estate sale, the quarter box was a goldmine! Paid $34 total.

Pic 1: Goldblatt chisel and other punches, Xcelite splined driver kit, Dunlap ignition tool pouch kit. The drill chuck on the pouch fits a 1/2" drive speed handle or extension.

Pic 2: Top to bottom - Walden sockets, Upland Forge wrench, Thorsen sockets, 4 Snap On orange mini screwdrivers, SK Wayne DBE and SK 1/4" driver, PowerKraft 1/4" driver,
Proto sockets, large P&C 1 3/16" 1/2" drive socket, Plomb universal and socket, Giller sockets, Pocketwrench gimmick tool made in USA, Easco universal, Craftsman =V= sockets and an empty 1/4" metal socket case, no brand Forged in USA DBE, Bonney DBE, punch, sockets and 1/4" driver and a crossbar for a 1/2" breaker bar. On the right the non-reversible 1/2" drive ratchet with the plug has no brands or marking except for the Duro-Chrome Patent # 1902878. There is also an Ullman screw holder on the bottom right.

Pic 3: More tape measures for my collection, AC spark plug gauge, mini slide caliper, USA made taps that will replace some rusty ones in one of my tap sets and an always useful working Sharpie. Plus the yellow bucket in the back was handy to carry my prizes!

Not pictured is a vintage large meteorologist grade rain gauge made of galvanized steel and copper.

This Powerkraft tool box popped up on Craigslist. I didn't need another box but for $20 I couldn't resist! It has been repainted, look like it was gray originally.

I bet there are two more drawers under the bottom panel, just like a '50's Craftsman, nicely done!

Here's the precision rain gauge I picked up Thursday. The logo on the bottom of the brass small diameter catch tube reads PRINCO PHILA PA. PRINCO is Precision Thermometer & Instrument Co, founded in 1910 in Philadelphia PA. This rain gauge is 1961 or earlier because the company moved to Southampton PA in 1962. The company is sill in business there making RF transmitter instruments. The funnel and outer can are galvanized steel, the large ring on top of the funnel has a 45 degree edge all around for better accuracy and appears to be copper, the dipstick appears to be brass with a high end plastic or phenolic measuring stick screwed to it. It rained yesterday and it was cool to check it to find out precisely how much rain fell.

Driftpin, great score for $10!

I don't think I'll get much use out of the chainsaw on a string, but the other stuff is usable. What was somewhat surprising is that it's all in good, or very-good condition, some of it looks like opened but used very little, and a few are unopened/unused.

I'm not familiar with the Stanley hand tools from Japan, but I expect the red handles are probably something they did when they were sourcing them from there, and may not have used since. I think I have a lot of Stanley yellow tools.

They had some different tin snips, USA, but I don't really need them, and they weren't in the box, so I didn't add them to the box.

Met a new lady friend today and this one has 4 buildings full of junk! Two stories and basement , walk paths only! You name it , it's in there. She bought the place like that from an old collector couple. I picked just a few things that were on top as she gave me the tour. I could be in lust :pimpflash! And she's not bad looking either...:lol_hitti
I paid up a bit to stay in good graces because I'm sure there will be an upside to this venture ! Gave her $100 and going to take her to dinner sometime to talk about the next transaction!
The buildings use to hold a shoe repair and a plumbing company plus an old couple that were collectors of everything!
Here's what I ended up with
Littlestown 5" vise- 5" size isn't common
Hollands pipe vise
Ridgid Chain Vise
old wooden handle Pipe reamer
cobblers tack hammer- needs handle
cobblers claw hammer- old - blacksmith forged!
Stanley socket chisel 1/4
old fencing pliers
paddle lock stamped BEAR- cool-old
utiliplane- all aluminum ???
dansco all steel chisel
lever-wrench locking pliers
huge pair of vise grip style pliers- cheap but biggest pair I've ever seen
ratcheting phillips driver
roofing hatchet
metal hammer
H D Smith Super 6 60 winged screw driver perfect handle
leather die cutters hammer- the round leather stacked hammer
Rhineheart locking pliers
snap-on gsl 832 1/2 long handle ratchet
snap-on made tubelox scaffolding ratchet /hammer- This is cool. It has a fixed on 7/8 socket and the back of the ratchet has a hammer head on it for erecting scaffold . The socket is pinned on , remove the pin and it's a 1/2 hammer ratchet???

I was able to pick the remnants of an estate sale today.

Out the door for $110. The boxes are a little rough, but function well. I'll probably not do a full restore right now, just clean them up, knock the rust down, then put some kind of protectant on.

When I get bored I might do a full restore.

Nice collection of boxes --diamonds in the rough.

The lady running the sale said the sold 'a bunch of old snap on stuff' from the $1 table....

Ouch !

First post attempt so here we go! Not a garage sale find, but I was snooping in the collapsed bar at my great grandparents place and I found this tool box. A few ford wrenches and a bunch of Deere wrenches. The big wrench is marked Bonney on one side and 1 7/8 on the other. Not sure what it was used for. I need to clean them up a bit to get rid of the mouse poop smell.

Picked up this 1969 can of US military penetrating oil. It has never been opened, the little plastic spout has never had the end cut off.

I got this from the neighbor lady's yard I am cleaning up, I am surprised the can is in such good shape since it was outside.

Nice score BB, I love NOS items, the fact that that is military grade just adds to the coolness factor.

I picked up this Eagle pump oiler yesterday -- the base is a little bent out of shape, but that can be fixed easily.

Went to a rare Thursday estate sale this morning. They said they had tools. Technically they were correct, they had an extension cord and a busted battery charger. I ended up with 3 quarts of 5w-30 for the yard machines for $1. Spent more on breakfast at McDonald's and was more satisfied with the purchase.

Hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow.

You dont remove the pin ! Sometime you need to move the clamp a little bit without having to loosen the clamp. So you just flip the ratchet around and pound on the clamp a little...

Good to see you here Red Vise. I had to miss your sale due to (real paying) work. And I think you may have been taking a nap when I stopped by later.

Once went to a thursday one and it was a woodworkers paradise. Too bad I got there too late and missed out on the 80 jergenson clamps for $1 each. But i did snag a set of german and austrian brad point bits all the way up to 1 in and 1/4 to 1-1/2 forstner bits with a lot of baltic birch plywood for $20.

Generic Ratchet at the restore today. Kinda obvious who made it. Only marked USA on the handle, looks almost new, too nice for me to use.

Never seen a generic SK...

I did see some un-stamped Craftsman sockets at the pawn shop today. They were in a big bulk bin of sockets, kind of interesting but at the same time I didn't really care to figure out what size they were... lol

I picked up a 215lb anvil for $120. It was cracked and repaired at one point but it's better than nothing. At least half of it has decent rebound.

Answered a Craigslist ad for tool boxes and tools. Got there and realized I had been there years ago, the guy was disabled and still had lots of tools but most of what was left was import tools.

Still managed to find a few things, spent $24 total.

Pic 1 left to right: Chunk of railroad rail, OTC bearing splitter, a large Matco puller and a smaller K-D Tool puller.

Pic 2: Zep 20 gallon and Mystik 15 gallon cans and the blue parts bin.

Nice find cb, you ****!

I love it when good stuff gets missed in a corner or under a bench... I check the place out top to bottom a couple times over... There's always something good that everyone else missed.

Ragtop-You did well

CB- Nice. I'm keeping an eye out for a top box of that vintage to match my little roller and carry box.

Did some rummaging around at a nice resale place with a lot of tools. I have the feeling it was well picked over before, but I still found a few goodies.

Pic 1 - the lot- cost $20

Pic 2- Matco 1/4 flexible driver, Powrkraft 3/8 ratchet and combo wrench

Pic 3- Wrenches- Blackhawk, Williams angle, Williams "Special" socket end, I think a Proto 1/2 gear, Armstrong 3/4 drive 1-5/16

Pic 4 - All German Tools
wrenches- Hazet, Continental American Peerless (UNFAMILIAR WITH THESE, I only know Continental American Japanese tools)
sockets- Gedore, Elora and Belzer

Pic 5- All Plomb, Proto, Proto LA

Pic 6- Small Armstong clamp,

Broken 1-1/2" H&B vise. Got me all excited until I pulled it out of the box and saw it was broken, brazed, broken again, and missing the handle  It may be good for parts :dunno:

Pic 7 - Williams 3/8 drive sockets. Most of a set and 1 double.
