I had a bad week this week but my buddy and I managed some how to live through it . It wasn't pretty at all but like I said we lived. Literally hundreds of cuts and bruises , internal bleeding on my spleen and a broken vertebra in my back . lots of stitches and imbedded glass . I have a steal cage around me to support my back ... I probably look like Frankenstein with stitches every where holding me together and the "cage" but I still managed one sale this morning with the help of my daughter to carry the loot!
She told me I may have a bit of a problem if I still can't pass up a sale after all that I been through this week. I figure you guys here may be the only ones to understand the drive to do such a thing... Or maybe I'm just toooooo far gone over the rust junkie edge! :wtf:
It took two hours to cut my buddy out of the crane but thankfully he only suffered a separated shoulder. We had a front tire blow out at 70 mph in a 35 ton boom truck . Even at 250lbs and all I had, there was no keeping it on the road.
Now back to the important stuff! I spent 74.00 bucks this morning on this batch of coolness!
Sears wooden crate
4Pounds of lead
Jewel coal hammer
Pair of Grand dual grip "C" clamps
Craftsman boot knife with sheath
225 Q Cattaraugus fighting knife
Leetonia scaling hammer, cross peen -straight peen
Calumet 3 lb cross peen beater
The broken handled claw hammer for .50 cents was a steal! Old Cheney with a nail holder!
One old Stanley notched logo claw hammer
2 old plumb logo claw hammers
a novelty "ice Breaker" hammer
another 3lb hammer I haven't identified the maker mark yet???
old wooden zigzag rule- not sure who made this one
The sun rubber Company Donald Duck car... Thought it was cool...:dunno:
My second pair of Eifel-flash "plierrench"! this one only has one jaw though and no leather pouch.
8" crescent
3 lectrolite combo wrench's- 1/2, 9/16, 5/8
Real nice Papco flare tool
old Apex saw set for large two man saws
an old front desk bell... I guess I always wanted one since I use to watch hee-haw and the empty arms hotel skit...:lol_hitti

Hope you have some quick healing. The back injuries are painful, having had one myself.

Deadly slow day today... until the last stop (which had a heck of a "lead in" in the add about "same house for >30 years and having been married for >60!

I got there as the opened it up, (15 early...) Everyone was milling around the driveway and I'd bought a crystal vase and 2 jars of old marbles for a buck and a half. The I asked if tools were going to be pulled out, after a little hemming and hawing, I was given over to the man of the house, (eighties?) and he took me to has back shed. very cluttered, clearly hed worked at this and tht over the years.

Then I saw the red 6 drawer tool box, and it's a Proto. I asked if it was for sale and we dug it out a bit and opened and closed drawers. "Sure, I'll sell it and all the tools in it for $25. I just want it gone. I'd kept seeing "SK" as we look ed adn I immediately agreed I find another SK socket box on the bench and "Oh, that goes with your box!" Another one on the floor and that was also included as well and an SK driver on the wall...

So his daughter shows up (about my age) and asks her dad if she can send others back here? and he says "Sure! I just sold this gentleman the red tool box, it's all paid for!" (It was not...) I corrected him and paid her before things could change, and she thanks me for being honest while he say "Dang! I was sure you paid me..."

So this is what $25 got me today:

The box as I saw it (the top was open...)

Most of the SK stuff - Wrenches - the yellow metric set was complete the SAE missing a 1/2 and 9/16

The sockets and Pliers: the complete 3/8 drive is metric, the rest is mostly SAE.

Most of the rest of the US tools:

Noteworthy are the Mayhews punches General scale and pick, the brake tools are Indestro, I think the Old Timer is recoverable, the rust is not deep, and he blades otherwise are in good shape, some craftsman, Allen and a new Britain, combo, the hammer head markings are almost obliterated, I'll have to work at that... feeler gauge in the middle and the deep socket are SK I missed earlier

The divider set is notable as it's made by the Eagle pencil Co., and has a Pat. date of 1894! the tips are reversible and one is an ink pen nib, and the other holds a pencil lead. A better pic of the Old Timer, the mini electrician's pliers are french, and the multi pliers are Crescent.

And the mostly Taiwan leavings (one made in India wrench) - I didn't bother taking more pics of the misc hardware...

And last but not least, the vase and marbles:

DAYAM, Top. Glad you and your buddy are not only alive, but not laid up in a hospital. It's hard to believe, looking at those pics. Nice scores, too.

I picked up my next project for the garage. This will definitely keep me off of the estate sale/yard sale picking circuit for a while.

1960 Chevy Impala 2-door, 283-2bbl/Powerglide. Lots of rust--floor is gone, driver side rocker is nearly gone, perforations and dents everywhere, but all the trim is there. It needs a windshield, but the car in my avatar will serve as the sheet metal donor. $2600 cash, plus delivery to my door for a nominal fee. I hope to take delivery tomorrow.:bounce::bounce:

BlueBomber, nice car! I have a 60 Chevy Truck I'm working on, we should go crusin once they are running. LOL.

Went to a sale today that was advertised as a tool garage sale. I got there like 30 minutes after it opened. Prices were great and I wish I would have got there when it opened. I found the below stuff but I have a feeling the really early birds got the rest.

The 2 SK ratchets were in a bin marked $1 each.
The 3 locks are Slaymaker with original key in a box marked 10 cents
The Armstrong wrench was also marked 10 cents.

I paid a total of 2.50 so I didn't have to worry about change.

The rest of the stuff was either foreign or I just didn't need it. A SK ratchet set in a plastic case was marked 20.

Was able to hit 3 sales this morning before other Saturday duties took over.
1 sale had a couple hand sewn quilts I bought cheap and our first sale had a bunch of tools all was 50% off today so I picked up a few items:

There were a ton of tools at the sale and one can only wonder if there were more yesterday or if they buyers stayed away as the tools were not advertised well in the estate sale listing. I didn't see the break on the Stanley 65 until later but,it should still be desirable to someone.
All together I paid less at the sale than I did for breakfast at Tim Horton's today for two of us and a couple muffins to bring home for later.

Apparently I lost a post from earlier. I can't remember exactly what I wrote, but it essentially came down to -

Top - OMG, hope you're feeling better soon.
Outlaw - U-****

Will post about my morning later. Still haven't had a chance to write it up. It got spendy at the end.

Thanks Guys! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with today's haul!

So I need two of the slide clips. Hopefully the Waterloo clips will work!

If that goes well I'll spring for the cost of the replacement cylinder keys for this one to keep it factory...

After that I need to get a clay bar and detail this and wax it. This will be the first box I ever waxed... (I'l do the big Matco as well, it could use it...)

Outlaw,
longer one,6 1/2" Yankee No.15,North Bros.Mfg cos.USA
Phila,PA,USA
PAT Nov2,97-May1.06
ratchets smoothly in both directions, tip isn't looking like 100 years of abuse

shorter one ,5 1/2" has a faint stamp Germany in a rectangle strikingly similar to the Stanley logo??? ratchets well in both directions, little rougher on the blade tip

The breaker bar is unusual as it has male fittings on both ends,1/2" drive
marked chromeXquality
=vanadium steel=

Outlaw,you **** on the Proto/SK:thumbup:

I got this 5 drawer storage cabinet from a CL ad and negotiated to a $30 price. I like the idea of 5 drawers that are shallow compared to standard filing cabinets but still deep enough to store tools or parts or whatever. Ball bearing drawer slides all work smooth. It needs a good cleaning and probably a change of paint color.

ALL: had a little time to stop at 2 estate sales where they mentioned tools and at one i left without a thing which might be the first time in years. couldn't find anything even worth trying to negotiate the prices down on.

the second sale had a mini lathe that they wanted $400 for and probably missing most of it's parts. i did rummage through a few drawers and found this for $10 and almost felt like i overpaid, but i wanted to leave with something.

cheers

Outlaw: you know what we say when you make a haul like that don't you? well my version is WELL DONE and good for you for asking.

TOP: HOLY FECES!! one flat tire and you end up in a wreck like that. GEESH i'm happy you are still alive and good to know you still have your lust for rust. cheers and get well soon big guy!!

Craptain: i never said i don't drink i just don't do it daily anymore of that often. that little Hotpoint's freezer didn't pass management's approval to replace my home's garage fridge so it's going to the shop and will have fresh ice tea, water and a few cold ones and snacks in it.

- Firstly that's a bad looking wreck glad everyone survived. Secondly glad the estate sales have started up for others as well as myself. First one this year I got to hit on thurs had some tools posted/pictured got a couple goodies. 1/4 snap on being the gem - plus another 1/4 Armstrong ,1/2 proto pro , CM 1/4 set - already filled the holes, 1/2 Armstrong breaker bar marred up a bit from a vise ? Has another female 1/2 on end ?? UTO hammer ,SO 1/2 ext , a couple of wrenches another mac Sabinathat wasn't in pic and a cool USA craftsman light driver new in box . All up $20 - what's with the Armstrong breaker bar anyone know, I don't see the use in it ?

I8, the Female socket on the breaker is so it can be used as a long extension.

DON'T use it with another extension as a "cheater" hole as that will break the handle socket. (which is why the Mfg's stopped making them this way... too many returns...)

Not much to show from one estate sale except some can fruits and aluminum cooking tray that I'll use as disassemble sheets to keep the bench clean.

Here's a summary of my morning.

Cranky
Excited
Bored
Hopeful
Crushingly Disappointed
Eager
Thankful
Aggravated
Curious
Hopeless Resignation
Exhausted

All before noon.

Now for the details.

Cranky & Excited
Had to wake up at 5:30a so I could get to a sale early. I am NOT a morning person.
It was in the teens with negative wind chills. The sale started a 8a and it takes me a minimum of an hour and at least three cigarettes (5) to start to be functional. I've been waiting for this sale all week due to a non-tool item I spotted half cut off in a photo of the garage. I HAD TO HAVE IT and today was the day.

Bored, Hopeful, Crushingly Disappointed
Got to the sale 1-1/2hrs early and was #3 on the list. No one else showed up until 10min before the start. 90min of thumb twiddling while we huddled in our cars trying to keep warm. Then the sale opens (YEA, stick to the plan). Where's the garage ?
"I'm sorry, the family decided this morning that they didn't want to sell anything in the garage"
AAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had spotted a discontinued Liverpool FC wall clock that would have really annoyed my BIL if I had hung it opposite his Bruins clock in the mancave. I was SO looking forward to seeing his face. Now I'll have to scour eBay until one pops up.
Oh, all the tools were in the garage as well.

To console myself, I grabbed a few scraps they left in the basement and spent $6.
The sale opened at 8a, I was out of there by 8:04a and went to get breakfast.

Pic 1 -
DeWalt bit kit (nearly unused and complete)
Roper Whitney #5 Jr. Punch (no dies or punches)
2 - newer Craftsman long screwdrivers

Eager & Thankful
Earlier this week, I got a PM from Bobcat753 about a pair of Lyons drawers he wanted to give me. He replaced them on his bench with a spare SnapOn drawer he got. You should check out his thread about it. It fits the length of the bench perfectly. Anyway, we had made arrangements for me to drive out his way after the sale to pick them up. I brought a thank you gift with me (he can post, or not, if he chooses). I'm not sure if I'll add them to the three wider ones on my Lyons bench, or use them on a lathe bench I still need to build.
Thanks Bobcat !

Pic 2 -
2 Lyons drawers (1 w/sliding tray)
16"w x 20"d X 6-3/4"h

Aggravated
On the way home, I decided to take a diversion and check out the Restore to see what leftovers they had at the end of the week. I forgot that they open at 10a and I was 20min early. After my wait at the first sale, I chose to leave.

Curious & Hopeless Resignation
Since one of the sales from yesterday was on the way home (by the long way), I thought I'd stop in to see if the Sewer Spoon (long stylized shovel) had sold. Big mistake. There was an old post drill there that I had been afraid to ask the price on the first time. The Sewer Spoon was gone, so I foolishly asked about the Post Drill. Big mistake. It's a small model, but the original asking price was $120. Not bad, but more than I would pay. Today, it was $75. Damn, just close enough to keep me interested. He wouldn't budge further, but in the end I got him to throw a few other things in for the price.

Pics 3, 4, 5
unknown maker #0-1/2 Post Drill Press
Stanley pointed blade (for the router plane I got there yesterday)
sm. wire screwdriver
box of paperclips (not shown)
some Post-it pads (not shown)

The extra bits for the router plane aren't cheap if you can find them.

Exhausted
Finally got home and was emotionally spent (as well as $75 lighter than I planned)
Sat in the recliner all afternoon vegging in front of the tv. (Liverpool won finally :D, Revolution lost )

Lookie what I found :bounce:

Millers Falls translucent Permaloid Parsons De Luxe Brace bit and brace, from what I know so far on its history it was to commemorate the 50th anniversary to one of the designers at the company in around 1937 and rarer than finding a Craftsman speed ratchet for a nickle, and its in BEAUTIFUL SHAPE! And I got it for $10, and some other stuff for $3 (doweling center plugs and a baby screwdriver). I wonder if it would take to polishing, ill have to research the plastic.

Jake - Your Welcome! Will post your thank you gift either tomorrow night after work or Monday. Was too damn cold out this morning to go back out to my freezer of a shop to take some pics before I left for work. Thank you very much again!

TOP: HOLY FECES!! one flat tire and you end up in a wreck like that. GEESH i'm happy you are still alive and good to know you still have your lust for rust. cheers and get well soon big guy!!

DRIVESThanks man. These boom trucks are very TOP heavy and at 65-70 mph I was lucky enough to hold it as long as I did to miss the bid ditch where it blew out. As for the lust for rust( I like that by the way!) if I'm not chained down to the bed or in a box I'm pickin and grining !:)

Some of you may remember a few days ago the haul I made of some tables, sand blaster, Bandsaw, etc. well.... I knew they were having a sale today so I went by this Thursday and made a 2nd pass through the shop. Long story short.... I ended up buying the entire contents and having a yard sale today at the shop. I imagine I will have to make my own thread about how it all went. But here are some quick pictures. Everything in the pictures I now own. Lots of equipment, welder, trailer, compressors, hydraulic power units, etc etc etc.
