Well I have discovered that the local small flea market I hit every saturday and sunday I'm off has different venders on sunday than are thereon sat. So I picked up a few more things today.

LesserSon, Did you know the Q-Mart flea marker in Quarkertown is open all year. I've been there in 18 deg temp and scored. Bought a nice block grinder there for $20 in January.

No tools, but an interesting load none the less!

This was the first thing I picked up: metal box

• 14-1/2 wide 4-1/2 deep, 9" front to back
• The side "handles" are to clamp the top on.
• The carry handles is oddly large
• the top is Stainless Steel and has no hinge, completly removable.
• the box is Aluminum

And its marked "U S" in he middle of the SS top:

Small can of WD-40, and a two gun rack for a rig. I like it and I can't recall seeing one with retainer straps? The plastic coating is getting stick.... any suggestions to manage the stickyness?

A NOS Coleman Desert Water bag! the Coleman guys will like this one! its going in my hallway with the other camping displays... I'm told Coleman actually was making these, they were not on contract.

And a set of 5 aluminum tent poles; four fixed 6 footers, and one adjustable from 7 to 7-1/2' - Free!

Well I got the call from the farmer cleaning out a barn and an old farm house he was about to demo. He answered my Cl add looking for junk! I got a truck load of "stuff" for 300 bucks.
I got so much stuff and a wide variety , (1800's) antique oak dresser (for my daughter) two east lake chairs and table (1800's) and another heavy built chair

5 saws- 1- 2 man, 2- 1 man Bow saw and an all steel ice saw
Post vise , 5 duck decoy's, 2 old jacks( one is real heavy and cool)
fence stretcher , dehorners, Real cool old bird cage ( he was about to burn)
Junk anvil( part of an old vise) Flailing mace? , hatchet , hay hook, manure fork, Transitional coffin plane, Another cool old rake just like last weeks but bigger( what are the chances of that???)
wood chisels- Stanley SW, Keen Kutter ect. Early NB ratchet, leather strap cutter, Cool old hammer, Deere & Mansur Lid to an early planter-
5 gallon bucket of old wrench's implement, Deere, Indestro, Williams,Ford, International Harvester, Deering, Moline, Peck Stow & Wilcox and many more.
I know a lot of folks would look twice at some of this junk but it feeds my sole! By tomorrow night I'll have almost all of the iron cleaned and saved except for maybe the one big jack. I've never seen one like it before and it's pretty froze.

Thanks 3Bay It's been finding me lately ! I get amazed my self when I start digging. This old farmer was getting excited watching me get excited so he just kept pulling stuff out until finally he just let me go free style on the next two building !I was picking wrench's out of the dirt, unwiring them from barn tin and picking stuff from old wooden boxes that fell apart when I touched it. This was a 5 generation farm and had many if not all of the old equipment still on site, horse drawn stuff!

I think the mace was home made but pretty cool. Something every one needs right?

Saturday morning drove over to the Allentown Fairgrounds for the Super-Duper Garage Sale (or something like that). No tool guys, but a few guys with crappy tools. One lady had some Snap-on T-shirts and rummaging through her tables I managed to find a brand new Snap-on butane torch that I picked up for cheap and she even threw in a can of butane.

Craftsman Crowntop power bronze drill box with non functioning drill ($5). Will have to get into it later to see what's up. But worth it just for the box.

I am watching for a one gallon tank for big stoves to re-purpose. Size is about 5" X 14"+ or so (the type that you pump up like a camp stove, only these are generally on a stationary cabin range...

Someones "memories" box held all this. I think the guy passed and they were clearing out as this was a move out sale for the elderly mother.

Mostly patches, first up; Boy Scout patches and a decal; of the ones with dates they range from 1960 to 1968 and two were from 84 & 85? (His son's?):

As a former Boy Scout and patch collector/trader I was happy to see this small collection. Looks like he attended the national jamboree in 1960. They are usually held every 4 years. 1960 was the 50th anniversary of the BSA. The others are from local camporees and special events. He also earned the Paul Bunyan award for axemanship. The ceremony necklaces are probably from his membership in the Order of the Arrow. Might have been part of his dance regalia.

I was travelling all last week, visiting family, but managed to pick up a few things:

This was in the remains of my fathers toolbox, he has Alzheimers so we have to keep his tool use down to a bare minimum (better a year early, than a second late) but he was very happy to give me a couple spare apex bits, Vacuum Grip ignition pliers and a case hardened Chapman ratchet marked for Bridgeport.

After driving up to see my brother, I had 24 hours to kill in Reno and was able to hit the Sat swap meet. It had only a few vendors, but I was able to mine this bit from the dross. Snap On WF whitworth and 5/16 deep, Plomb WF 9/32 ratchet, Schrader valve caps, puller tip and a Craftsman jewelers screwdriver.

Also picked this up from the 'bay because it was cheap and I was sitting in a hotel room. Glasses case era Chapman set.

I love Chapman products, and these are the earliest sets from them. Also picked this up for the wife in a thrift store:

Craigslist find...

An elderly gentleman named Ron is selling off his tools from his welding/fabrication business in preparation for enjoying his retirement. He had just a metric TON of tools, large collection of very nice US made C-Clamps, and dozens upon dozens of Vise Grips.

As a gunsmith, my needs are small had tools typically. 90% of what I do is with a 4oz ball pein hammer. As a result, my heavier hammers have been Chinese **** that got the job done, but I've never been happy with them.

I left with the following for $45 and we were both happy. The files were in excellent shape and included some real oddball files that I don't have, and some duplicates of what I typically wear out from time to time.

Hammers - 8oz & two 12oz; all US made

All were cleaned up and added to my working tools.

I am not sure what to with the brass electrical label; but I couldn't just walk away from it. These days it seems we just use stickers for all this information.

Well I need to catch up - not sure how I feel about the last 2 weeks picks (mine of coarse) had to miss out on what looked to be an awesome estate sale , work just seemed like the more sense able option. Another sale which listed garage stacked full of tools only to have one cool old retro CM lathe in the back of the GG $160 which I enquired about said to be sold- the family must have pulled all the tools and changed there mind about the lathe at the last minute. I did find a lil plastic trash bin inside the house which had mix mash of junk and old tools so I picked that up along with a very nice Werner step ladder , security lights - highlights from the bin - SO vacuum grip dikes , Stanley (Japan) channel locks , J H Williams 10"superadjustable , Williams no 46 dikes , kraeute slip joint , mirror - (to fix a busted blue point one I got a few weeks ago), auto suture staple remover (when I get into auto surgery) and a very cool old razor blade knife holder - only stamping is made in USA (any ideas on it please chime in) all up $25


I went to the auction that had the cool bench grinder and won the highest bid but it didn't meet reserve. I was at my max bid for it (100)and wonder if I'll be kicking myself later for not ponying up another 50 - I can post up a pic of anyone's interested and could prob still go get it. Really thought I'd be able to get a great deal on it - might just have to settle for a good deal maybe - it's a blue point 1hp on stand with baldor dust control unit pulling behind it .

I spontaneously stumbled on an estate sale two weeks ago Thursday on my way home from work. Really, I didn't even know they were having one there which started at 0900 that morning. I wish I knew I would have been there during my lunch break. In either case, I came out of the sale with a $12 bill for all sorts of goodies to include the following:
1. Briggs n Stratton with an electric starter (which you have to plug into an extension cord to start; I had never seen one, which was cool).=-)
2. A circa 1716-1724 Nova Hispania - Sinus Mexicanus map (Of which I've only been able to find 3 others available)

It's a Mactools HB45 vintage Hacksaw. I was surfing garage journal this morning on an unrelated topic, and ran into this old post from MercLSU which is an active member still. I went to an auction of a animal pharmaceutical co. closing up and tried to buy a bunch of stuff but I'm too cheap for the deep pockets that were in attendance and missed out on some really great tools for decent keeper prices but I was looking to flip most of it so it didn't make much sense to buy. I did manage to pick up two carts full of junk. One cart is stainless the other is hard plastic. Both are real nice but need cleaned up a bit. One cart had 39lbs of cut stainless pencil rod on it , 2 pair of VG 11's and a chipping hammer. The other had a Skill circular saw, a couple of No Parking signs, air hose and a 55 gallon drum funnel.
I dropped the drum funnel off at work , I'll make my boos buy me lunch some time for it... I kept a few pieces of the stainless rod and dropped the rest off at the scrap yard and made $42.75 paying for my day and the gas used
It wasn't the day I hoped for but I got two nice and useful carts for free along with the other things mentioned.

My first post of the year...(yeah its been slow start for me) But I got this today at the local Restore and was pretty happy. The Kennedy box is a bit rough but decent. It had mostly old Nicholson files and some cold chisels in it along with some various other stuff. Didn't see anything else real special but will paw though it later. But it also had a nice set of older SK wrenches. Both the open end and box end sets look complete. Also came with a 1, 1 1/16, and 1 1/8 combo. Most are marked SK or SK tools but some are SK-Wayne. Got it all for $40. I figure the wrenches alone are worth about that.
