Thank you for the help! I seen the clamp and just couldn't leave it there.....I may have a problem.....is there a resource for tool collecting addictions?

The only "help" is selling them to other addicts...which frees up space and cash to buy more.

I apologize now to the vegans and anyone who finds chicken choking offensive!

When I saw these laying on the ground at the flea market, this is not what I had in mind.

Apologize nothing, Who cares what vegans think. Those are a cool find. I wish I had one of those when we had chickens. It would be cool if it was stamped KFC!

Safe Sure Easy - maybe. I suppose it crushes the brain. I guess that would be humane. Not kosher, though. Problem is, chickens don't need much brains to live.

I went to an estate auction today. I went initially for something that got bid up way too high, and I passed. But the day wasn't a total loss. I have been looking for a cheap band saw just to have around the shop. I scored this Craftsman Band Saw for $15. I got the bench grinder for $6, and the 10 Craftsman wrenches 5/8" up to 1-1/4", with tray, for $17.

Here's a dark and crappy picture. The spots on the stuff is rain, lol. My wife wanted the electric guitar in the background, it's generic, but she got it for $8 too ;)

Ha! It is certainly NOT on this thread-- we're a bunch of mutual enablers and enthusiasts!

Got wet today at yard sales, with only a few items bought.

Pic 1--Three no handle chisels with one being Fulton, other Globe and no name on big chisel. Wood handle punch and set of 3 nail punches by Stanley.

Pic 2-5--Kind of embarrassed but was hoping when bought this that it was a copper cauldron. However, turns out to be a decorator metal piece.

Hmmm, that was me, circa 1978, only it was floppers (weakling poults) at a huge turkey farm, and they didn't give me no stinkin' tool!

So you were a professional turkey jerker?:lol_hitti

I'll never forget the first time at my Aunt's house in the country. I was about 8-10 yrs old, my Aunt made me go to bed early and I didn't understand why. We got up before daylight the next morning, it seems farmers start before sunrise for some reason. She sent my cousin and me to the barn to milk the cows and collect eggs, we came back and had a great breakfast, best ever probably. The afternoon came and we were outside playing with the chickens when my Aunt comes along and wrings ones neck right in front of me and it went to flopping around. :eyecrazy: I was in shock, then she explained that was the best way to kill a chicken for dinner. Then my mind was blown. I just collected eggs from either this chicken or one of it's friends earlier that morning and now we were about to eat it for dinner... I think that was the best chicken dinner I ever had but holy **** it was shocking for a city boy to see.

I'm no city boy and I've grown up working hard. The first time we got some chickens and it came time to slaughter them my dad was grabbing them two at a time, stepping on their necks, and pulling up. Basically unsheathing their heads. It was pretty bizarre for me too.

They do need blood.

I first saw one at a farm show. There was a guy with old tools any you had to guess what they were. He said the blade cut the nerve to the brain and the chicken would just to limp.

I say city boy loosely. We had about 14-17k population, a Walmart and McDonalds so we were the big city in a 30 mile radius.

In a manner of speaking UNRELATED to the original pun, yes. :)

The technique was very simple, quick, and effective. You walk through the young poults, identifying the weaklings (can't stand up), pick them up by the head, get the neck between two fingers, and snap your wrist as hard as possible..., and keep going.

Drove past a garage sale twice running errends today. Looked busy all day and i finally noticed there were a bunch of tools on sale in the garage. Figured on the 3rd pass I would take a quick peek.

So as a qualifier i have to say since I started following this topic ive got the feeling maybe i need some classic American made tools to look pretty next to my cheap HF stuff.

Get in the garage and notice several beat up vice grips which is common being they were made in dewitt about 25 mins away from where i live. Then I start looking at the wrenches and notice 99.9% is brands mentioned on here regularly. Destro, proto, old craftsman, plumb, challenger and so on (is barcalo buffalo a decent one?

I didnt escape empty handed and i didn't get a killer deal but I got that whole photo for $40. Not great, not terribe, or let me know if it is terrible.

Snap on 3/8 drive rachet, not best shape, it skips some and feels a bit clunky inside. Do you guys think some oil will help? I have some karo kroil that does an amazing job on rusted bolts.

Some assorted irwin clamps and a square file and flat file

Klien needle nose pliers with a neat lineman logo and the other is fuller made in japan

And my favorite pick of the day75eb6e90d5ac85728093b2bbda521099.jpg

I almost looked right past this 1/4 inch driver set until i closed the case and read plumb on it. Its all plumb except 1 socket is a proto. Oh well still prett decent. I have no clue if its the full set of original sockets or anything. Probably not considering there isa mix of 6 and 12 pt but i like it.

Those aren't 12pt sockets in the Proto kit, they're 8pt sockets for square head bolts and plugs.

Nice find.

tjdux: you did quite well--that Snap-on ratchet and Plomb case alone should more than cover your expenses if you flipped them. Your New Britain nutdrivers and DBEs are nice grabs, too.

Latest flea market finds.....

Snap-on #2 phillips screwdriver and a snap-on 1/4" nut driver for a $1.....

20170503_161900.jpg

Beat up old spray bombed First-Act guitar with one string for a $1..... (It's not a tool per se...but)

20170503_162649.jpg

I was going to sand it down and re-paint it red, white, and blue like the Buck Owens guitar (pulled the pickguard off the see the original finish) but I just tightened all the tuners and strung it up and it plays decent enough to be a beater/banger camp guitar....(I need to take the time to file the nut/lower the bridge....maybe someday)

HOOOOO BOY, did they ever see you coming! I feel so sorry for you being taken advantage of like that, I will send you $20 and you can send the whole lot to me. (If I offered to give you the complete $40 I'm afraid you wouldn't learn a valuable lesson - so it has to hurt a bit - Sorry.).

LOL - Nice Haul!!! If a little cleaning and lubrication doesn't fix that Snap-On, a new kit can be purchased from the online Snap-On sit for about $10. May I be the first to offer a "you ****" for that acquisition!

Today was an EXCELLENT day for me. Sold the 4hp Evinrude this morning and a junk snowblower for $490 total then headed off with my buddy to do some picking. For a whole $75 I got the following. 1953? Fruehauf M105 1.5 ton cargo trailer, 3 40LB John Deere suitcase weights, Reed 203 1/2 vise, and a big hook. Was a whole lot of fun in the rain.:lol_hitti

Jake put me up to this one.

He knows I've been looking for a lift for my yet-to-be-built second garage and let me know about a sale in Lexington with a lift here: I was in Concord for a breakfast meet-up, so I wandered over an hour ahead of the scheduled opening time--sure enough, they were opening an hour early!

It was a little chaotic, as the sale organizer had taken up the sign-up sheet, but had not yet opened the door. So, I stood by the open garage door until he got to "and everyone else" and then popped through to the basement.

By then (maybe 5 minutes into the start), I found lots of "Sold" tags stuck on some interesting stuff, but still a few buckets to dig through. I found an empty one and made my pile:

04540db84ff3bce56f46581e60cf1527.jpg

A batch of DBEs, SK-Wayne, Walden and Giller

2361655ee5e084f948b55c2165e95594.jpg

Two Blackhawk 34945 3/8" ratchets, different production runs
BernzOmatic 3/8" ratchet (didn't know they made hand tools until I found this and researched it)

Channellock 420 pliers and Utica 93-6 6-inch Select-O-Lock adjustable

This is the second Select-O-Lock I've found in as many months. Here's its big brother

c4a67606358f41315d233364c3d06d2a.jpg

No-name heavy hub/drum puller-crusty rusty, but should clean up just fine
M. Klein 1628-5 cable stretcher--didn't know what it was until I got it home [emoji481]
Compton heavy duty 12" scissors
Heller 14" blacksmith/farrier tongs

cc84c5ec08dd91548119ed63d0dbb524.jpg

I then hauled my bucket out to the back of the property to check out the "5000 sq ft garage". The lift was there, and with a $750 asking price that was probably fair, but more than I wanted to spend without a place to put it. I did find a few more things to bundle to make my trip worth while.

Craftsman 5.5hp 22" weed trimmer--don't know if it works (no gas, missing air filter), but it was sitting outside with a piece of plywood over it, so maybe it just needs gas

f42b230ece1b8225e75c2d6eba14d237.jpg

Pile of 2x6x14's, 2x8x12'pt, 6x6x7'pt, 4x6x8'pt--new garage (or other projects) building supplies
50' of 4" Schedule 40 conduit that I hope to use to carry the underground power and maybe air line to the new garage.

4ad7837802dc7c9f1bff834a5e365ea8.jpg

Two ~5-foot diameter steel hoops--look like they may have been wagon wheel rims??? Don't know why I needed them--we'll see if SWMBO likes 'em for the yard somewhere.

d43b66eca883529d00841e43c69f2cc9.jpg

I bargained with the sale guy to $100 for everything, which I think I can make back on the trimmer and the cable stretcher alone.

Lots of sales, including an area wide sale (40 houses claimed, I hit maybe 10?) including the HS Flea,

Pretty quiet for scores though but good prices!

right off the bat this Marine Alcohol stove from 1970. barely used pump probably needs an mew pump cup. It was mounted in this box for camping use. I'm hoping to make some money off this one.

The rest is all in one pic:

$2 for the milk bottle and Box of singer attachments and the original instruction manual - CW goes from 1915 to 1933
.25C SK Stubby
.25C "art" book
$3 WWII (I think) bayonet sheath from the Flea...
$2 SO drivers and the Vise grips

Story behind the bayonet sheath! I bought it at the far end of the parking lot. stuck in in my back pocket. as I was walking to my rig I realized it wasn't' in my back pocket anymore...

So I backtracked to where I was when I stuck in in my back pocket. no sign... I slowly walk back and stooped where ever I had previously.

Almost out and its on a table where I had asked about a price. I picked it up and told the guy I had dropped this and had bought it "way back there"

"Oh Yeah someone picked it up off the ground and put it on my table. No problem glad you found it!

Phew!

Funny story about the bayonet sheath, you almost donated that to the other seller! Great find on the stove too, looks really clean and taken care of.

Lots of good finds guys, hoping next week will be the one for me!

I saw a craigslist ad and went to look at a hose crimper, I came home with 5, 3 Eaton ET1000s , 1 Gates 4-20 and 1 RYCO 160. The RYCO has never been used all have pumps and dies.

Until I found the sheath again, I was sure I'd donated it to someone...

The stove I suspect is barely used. It has some alcohol in it, which will get dumped. I will sort out the pump and get it burning and get some money shots of it boiling water and put it up for sale. Its in great shape for 47 years old! I like that it has the "silent burner" caps. some of these are like a rocket at full blast..

Here's a few finds from my weekend picking. The Saphire Oil can is from a Friday night auction.

The Sunoco oil can and the Lufkin ruler came from the flea market today. I grew up using these rulers with my dad and try to grab any I can find that are complete and not broken.

BB - Glad you got out to look at that lift. Sorry it didn't pan out.

I went back to the estate sale today that I hit Thursday (post 2689), and in pics 1-3 found:
Bonney Streamline long pattern set, 3/8" through 3/4" Date codes Dec 1949 and Jan 1950. $8.25
Scotch Mod. C-23 Heavy Duty Dispenser. It cleaned up nicely. It's a heavyweight at 4.6 lbs, and will handle 3/4" or 1" tape. It'll probably go in the garage to hold masking tape. $2
Three MAC screwdrivers, a 3/8" and two P2's (4" and 12"). $2 total
Channellock battery pliers 7". $1.50

Estate sale #2 (pic 4):
K-P Mfg (Minneapolis) oil can. $2
Set of 6 needle files, made in Italy. $0.50
Swingline stapler. $0.50
Craftsman soldering gun tips (2). $1
Pop Rivet gun. $1.50
