Yesterday hit two estate sales when I was done working, nada. One ha$d stuff, but picked pretty clean. The other sounded good, but was just trash.

Hit a few more today, couple way out in the country. Spent $20.50 total:

PowerKraft socket set missing a couple things (3/4 inch and small 3/8, extension and spinner) Misc. hand tools, vintage reels, shotgun primers for my BP, film canisters, Plomb ignition wrench, sandpaper, wood mattet, a Duo-Therm (can't find anything out on it.) and some cool vintage safety glasses.

$15 spent for me. Probably would have been that much on the Sawzall blades alone.

Fresh Fire extinguisher ($1) and a pair of Armstrong 1/4" ratchets (one with missing selector) - $3:

Just a tip for everyone... The companies that inspect extinguishers typically have LOTS of old (but perfectly good) ones that can no longer be certified. If you see one of them in a parking lot working ask if they have any they want to get rid of, they will just give them to you. They can't legally sell them, and all they do is purge / trash them (or give them to people). Great for extras to have around the house, car, whatever... You could probably call them up and go to their office to grab some too.

Definitely a you **** price on the Brown & Sharpe magnetic surface gage. They are hard to find in the wild, especially for that cheap. Nicely done!

Today there was a yard sale thing on one of the streets in town, there was about 15 of them, I bought from 4.
View media item 70659View media item 70657Stihl top handle £45, put fresh fuel in as it was bone dry and it fired right up
Heavy duty farden fork £5
Hacksaw and new German grease gun £1 each
Crow bar £1
Hitachi sander £3
Taiwan made bench grinder £5 not the smothest running I have but its not bad.
Bag of tools, mostly English, inch and Whitworth spanners, nice bench drill index etc £5

Quality chainsaws are one of my weaknesses. I can't not buy them at a good price. That's about $58 US, so I would have picked it up if it was local for that price without batting an eye.

Indestro, should have a metal case. The Allen will hold the sockets inside. 10449c089eacac78999be6f428cff902.jpg like this

This Vidmar box followed me home yesterday for a little over $30 per drawer. I've kept my eyes open for a good deal on one for a good ten years and this one was about 1/2 mile away from home. I didn't even strap it down on my trailer for the ride home.

The pressure washer to the right of it was found down the road a few nights earlier with a free sign on it. It needed an unloader valve and some fresh gas.

Yesterday was a dreary, rainy mess. This morning promised better weather, so with my adult children planning to take my wife out to breakfast, I schemed to get out and back before they woke. Nearly succeeded, too. So, a quick morning at two lightly-attended flea markets. A few mothers out, but mostly brunching, I guess. Got home around 10am, kids up but the wife had made them breakfast! Pancakes and bacon. Happy Mothers Day. Now the wife and daughter are apartment hunting and son heading back to his apartment, me with no ride for the afternoon. Glad I had my fun when I did!
$9 got me two Bonney DBEs (1-1/4x1-1/16 & 15/16x7/8), three Bonney DOEs, two metric (6x7 & 8x9mm) Indestro DOEs, a Husky CM-era 1/4" driver, a 1/4" Cman socket (oops, I meant to take the 3/16" Husky socket), a Plomb DBE, and an interesting Thomas Smith Snail brand DOE bearing "The Colchester Lathe Co Ltd" with 5/8&7/8UNC openings and about 11" long. Not shown: a pair of PEXTO gas pliers and a 8" sharpening stone.
Things I considered but chose to leave behind included a Richardson Bros (Newark NJ) handsaw with a worn but recognizeable Maltese-Cross medallion c1880-90s, two Bonney 1034 DOEs, a Bondhus 5mm hex driver.

Also got this compressor today.
View media item 70664A made in England single cylinder Ingersoll Rand type A pump, its only got a 1/2 HP motor so I imagine it doesn't much cfm and the tank is 15" dia and 18" long in the cylinder part, 3/16" plate on its tag, dated 1970. Got an auto water drain. This was an local collection eBay item and cost me £150.
Should suit my low demand needs nicely and is a whole lot better than the 25L oil less 1.5hp direct drive I have now.

Aren't there even size markings? Like Swingpress says, Indestro/Duro is most likely. They made several different kits that included the pieces you have there, and they don't all look like the one he posted. If there is really NO mark at all on the sockets, I agree it's probably Indestro, and could be part of a kit sold through a retailer like Western Auto or Sears. If there are fractional size markings, Indestro sometimes stamped a star on either side of them, and Duro stamped a sort of trapezoid in the same positions.
But SK and NB also made nearly identical kits. SK will have a small dot or a dash on either side. NB have a different style for their fractions and usually have a made in usa stamp as well.

I need help identifying this magnet thing that I picked up at an estate sale for 50 cents.

it is labeled " DANGER - KEEP STEEL AWAY - this unit must be removed from service immediately for test & recharging if any object is attracted to it, strikes and adheres to it."

It is extremely magnetic at the center - the "aluminum" colored disk is free floating but I have been unable to remove it because of the powerful magnetism. I suspect that I could push it out of the field but there is a LOT of pressure on it to get it even a quarter of the way out. I am afraid to really try it without putting it in a vise, press, etc. The magnetism is strong where the points come together, but the flat base is not very magnetic at all.

I think it is labeled the indiana steel products company with a serial number of 35212

I need help identifying this magnet thing that I picked up at an estate sale for 50 cents.

just found out it is a "radar magnet" - not sure what role it played in a radar system but many universities still use them today in their physics departments. the floating piece is a "keeper" and here is a prying method that I may adapt https://pirt.asu.edu/demo/5g1010a and another reference http://www.physics.montana.edu/demo...icityandmagnetism/demos/magnetassortment.html - I am happy for 50 cents!

Yes sir they are sae sockets 7/16 and up I will look for the star or the trapezoid on them thanks.

Do NOT brush, buff or polish them. A lot of tools from that era (and from what I've seen a disproportionate amount of Indestro) was cadmium plated, which unfortunately corrodes to a dusty gray. Leave it. Cadmium is highly toxic when inhaled or ingested as dust.
I know I'm not the first to point this out; it should probably be mentioned on every page.

$10 for this. There's a Snap On, a Blue Point, some Plomb, Proto, and a couple others I don't recall.

Got a 6' long 28" deep Lyon steel workbench for $75. I'd been needing a workbench for a while and it'd be perfect. Will likely mount it on beefy locking casters.

And all the tools on top of the workbench for $50, including a corded 3/8 Craftman drill and a Skil-saw.

The hand tools include some Hazet, Proto, SK and a cool old 1/2" Bonney socket wrench that requires pushing out the drive axle and pushing it in the other way to reverse the ratchet direction (it was $0.50). Box of foot long lag screws and stakes. Not a bad haul.

Not sure why some of the photos appear rotated 90 degrees. They appear normal on my phone. Seems to happen randomly?

This Vidmar box followed me home yesterday for a little over $30 per drawer. I've kept my eyes open for a good deal on one for a good ten years and this one was about 1/2 mile away from home. I didn't even strap it down on my trailer for the ride home.

The pressure washer to the right of it was found down the road a few nights earlier with a free sign on it. It needed an unloader valve and some fresh gas.

csp, good i, scooping up that pressure washer. those are good little homeowner units, cheap to fix if you know what to look for. did i see the turbo tip? that in its self is 30.00!
