Some nice hauls guys!

Dkroth I think they were originally amber. Seen quite a few. Old Plomb drivers and and Snap On spinner handles from way back are amber color, so are a bunch of others.

Found this little guy while cleaning up an office at work.

35324987511_fa3d142465_c.jpg

Vermont American 5 piece compact bit screwdriver, all pieces marked USA and doesn't look like it's ever been used. It'll now reside in my office.

Can't beat free tools if you ask me.

Thanks guys!
The 1/4" drive is smooth and feels like new. The 3/8" sometimes doesn't want to switch directions or freewheels. Soaking the guts from it in ATF now.

With rain in forecast due to tropical storm Cindy, thought it best to go to whatever yard sale seemed to be best.

No pics advertising the sale i picked, but written info advertised metal welding table, vises and some tools.

Drove about 35 minutes one way to get there, as out in farm country.

When drove in to sale, saw two vises on vise stands sitting down near barn door. The pair of individual vise stands were welded together by deceased prior owner.

Picked up a few more items and was given a few items as well, but was happy to get some help from son-in-law, to get the vises removed before loading up the heavy vise stands.

Pic 1 & 2 vise stand in upright, then upside down.

Pic 3 is a 6 inch jaw Vintage Columbian Model 606 Machinist or Metalworker's Bench Vise.

Pic 4 is a little Craftsman 5243 vise, that has a missing replaceable jaw.

Pic 5 is prior owners handy work on making butterfly and dog.

Pic 6 is Gardner Industries Display board.

Pic 7 is Disston Saw, box of washers, box of nuts, spin clamp, warning tape, metal box of Craftsman small driver and bits, and a Stewart Warner Tachometer tool.

Mike

There are videos to disassemble the drive assembly. Just be careful as that little pin is spring loaded (obviously) so it doesn't go shooting across your garage.

Do that disassembly inside a gallon baggie. Less likely to have the part fly off to parts unknown!...

I made an Estate sale, this AM. Not too bad and some interesting things:

Most everything was cheap junk and I had to dig for these few gems and some supplies.

Top top Bottom: Duro, Tru-Fit, Indestro, Plvmb, Vise Grips, missing the screw, Small Duckbills are marked JFM Co P&C Socket andf a tapered ream. I suspect the ream is for tap holes in wood barrels.

attachment.php

The wrench end of the ream is not square? :dunno:

attachment.php

A small flat box, BP handle, 2 punches, one is a Starrett, and hose end supplies (I just used up two of these...)

attachment.php

The inside has some grey wrinkle adn is close to what Crafstman used post war I think? :dunno:

attachment.php

And this think light Aluminum box. No key darn it, and the seller said the key was taped to the box when he organized... Initial look in my "collection" adn I don't have it. I have one that is close, and I may be able to file it to fit...

attachment.php

Intersecting markings; so if this was the original owner Florentino was a "Certified Orthotist"

attachment.php

and the insides. I think the top pad may be original. The bottom obviously isn't...

attachment.php

Not bad for $5 all!

Thanks for the tips on taking the SK apart, I did the lazy man's fix, an ATF soak. That and a dab of Superlube and it works perfectly.

Trying to catch up with my finds of late. From the big flea market two Sundays ago:

attachment.php

Williams items of interest: Screwdriver (with a bend, but no signs of wear or damage to cause the bend, so possibly a factory second), Pierce Arrow DOE, Gun wrenches- one is shortened and has embossed numbers that the other doesn't , the other has had the opening modified.

Final two items from the aforementioned sale.

- Baldor 6" 1/2 HP bench grinder. It does run! $20
- Unknown 2 ton floor jack - missing the handle! $20
I think the "2 Ton" is the weight, if not the rating. It's a beast!

Final post for today:

I picked this up off CL earlier this week.

- Craftsman 3/4 HP 257.191500 Bench Grinder on Craftsman Stand

The seller was the wife of the original owner who "came down with Parkinson's" shortly after purchasing it. She stated that is was "Only used once or twice". It sure looks that way!

She listed it for $100 and I didn't hesitate to pay her asking price. Came with NOS Craftsman grinding wheel, NOS Craftsman wire wheel, and original owner's manual.

Brian, better pic of the "adz head? I think it may be a Pulaski. Used for fire fighting. With rust off you may find "USFS" stamped somewhere? :dunno:

Snuck out to an estate sale at lunchtime. Picked up the following for $20;
An aluminum workmate, this one is in really good shape. Will probably clean it up and sell the other one I picked up recently. A 15 pc set of craftsman chisels, barely used, a "Using your meter book", a 19mm deep craftsman socket, and something I have been wanting for a long time- an old craftsman tool holder grinding attachment, in original box w/instructions . Almost forgot the ridiculously wide grinding wheel. What were these used for?

Dang Rileysan, I picked up a slightly worse but older Cman block grinder for $25 years ago and I thought I had gotten a killer deal. Thats a you **** for you!

I don't think I would trust that grinding wheel anymore though for high speed since the bonding agent might have broken down somewhat.

Wow, that is a definite "You ****" deal!!! I have a grinding attachment too NIB that I still haven't hooked up...

But I'm seriously drooling over those CMan chisels & punches! OMG they look so nice and not abused....

I've never seen a Craftsman stone that wide, I didn't know they ever made them! Like someone posted above, for sharpening a wide blade... Would also work well with the drill-bit attachment since that grinds on the sides...

If you are going to use that stone, give it a good ring test (both sides of course)... I would put the grinder outside far away from everything and plug it in with an extension cord and let it run for a few minutes first time... *just in case*....

Had a productive weekend at the fleas and garage sales!

1 - lot of Craftsman stuff: long-C breaker bar, 1/4-drive ratchet, set of 9 vintage number stamps in a wooden box (not sure if the box is originally Craftsman), 2 DOE wrenches, a 1/2-drive extension, and a total of 21 sockets from 1/4-drive to 1/2-drive, $8 for all

2 - set of mostly Proto, including a 3/8-drive set of 2 ratchets, a speeder bar, a breaker bar, and 24 sockets (mostly Proto, with a few Snap-On and Husky tossed in), $25 for the set

3 - more Proto stuff: set of 4 screwdrivers, a pair of 6-inch wire cutter, tape measure, 1/2-inch drive extension, a center punch, a combo wrench, a 1/4-drive ratchet, and 3 sockets (1 Proto and 2 Plomb), $10 for all

4 - 2 Klein pliers (a small needle nose and a 9-inch lineman's pliers), 3 screwdrivers (Amelite, WWII Stanley and Irwin), red Defiance razor knife no. 299, Westcott 10-inch curved adjustable wrench, a lathe lockdown wrench, a 6-inch Diamond adjustable, and a female-drive Frank Mossberg ratchet, all for $10

5 - misc socket stuff incl. a S-K Wayne 3/8-drive ratchet, a 100-yr-old socket for removing spark plugs (missing the thru-bar), and 17 misc sockets (incl. Blackhawk, OTC, Herbrand, Indestro, and Wright), all for $5

6 - cute little S-K set of 1/4-drive stuff, incl. a ratchet, socket extension, breaker bar, and 10 sockets (might be missing one or two), probably late 40s or 50s vintage, $8 for the set.
That case in the 5th picture. Is there any marks on it. I picked up one and it had a bunch of plomb WF items in it but was painted. I was wondering if it was plomb or not.

Just made a Freecycle pick up - A "Snap on bar stool with rust". I spent 5-10 min on it with WD-40 and Steel wool and all but a few pits and bad spots are gone. The red has faded, and there are a couple of small holes that got poked (Up high above the logo), but for the garage and the price, its good enough.

It has a pressure cylinder and its in the "low" position, but it extends to bar stool height.

My first garage sale thread post. First a couple weeks ago I went to a sale advertising a desk. I am looking for a battleship desk. Desk was a wooden monstrosity that I passed on but this cabinet was sitting next to it. $5 Also a couple small Proto wrenches for $1

Today I bought some interesting items that I am not sure how I did. I have not been garage sales or auctions in years, but this thread got me interested again.

The plane looks complete and in good shape except for some surface rust. Says Made in USA, but I do not see a brand. Any info appreciated. $5
http://i546.photobucket.com/albums/hh439/rossdirksdvm/20170623_194902.jpg

The small vice missing a screw/ handle. Says Litttco in a diamond. Littlestow, PA on one side. No. 165 and USA on the other $4

Larger 3 1/2" tilt vice appears unused. No markings, but had some of original box. $25. I would be interested in info on either vice.

Ball peen hammer well used but still good on a decent handle. Nipper jaws look good and I can use it. oil filter wrench, I had something I could use it for total for these 3 items $2.50

The DP angle vise is Asian. so check out the equivalent at HF to get a gauge.

The Littco is a good deal I think I have its Stanley 700 counterpart (X3) and one I keep in my rig in case I need a vise while camping or on the road. Its intended for wood working, but can be used for anything the clamp is capable of securing as the clamp is the weak link.

Lol. Yeah that one's NFS. It was priced 5 but I bundled it with the Duro for $5 total.

Outlaw-I'm not familiar with Free Cycle, but if the Snap On stool was free then I'd say that deserves a You ****!

Another great day picking through the tools at the flea market. Here's the haul today:

Pic 1: Proto screwdriver, Williams "S" light service wrench, Auto-Kit style combo wrench, Wiss snips, 7 sockets (1 no-name hex drive, and 6 Craftsman including a new impact), Lectrolite battery DBE, a 6-inch adjustable wrench with maker ground off (Proto?), and a couple odds and ends, all for $8

Pic 2: Set of mostly Proto drive tools, including a 5686 3/4-drive "L" handle, a Proto 3/4 extension, and 4 3/4-drive sockets (2 Proto standard, 1 Proto impact, and 1 Bonney). In unmarked but good condition metal box. Cost $40, but 3/4 drive tools are worth it to me.

Pic 3: Remains of a Bailey transitional wood plane. It's restorable, all the pieces are there and the wood block isn't too bad. Mostly needs a little Evaporust and TLC. $4 for this.

Pic 4-7: this was the most interesting grab of the day, for $10 and sometimes it's worth spending ten bucks on a curiosity. It's a hand-operated pistol-grip drill. At least that's what it does now, and it does it rather well. But I'm not sure if that's what it started out life as. There are no markings on the housing, there is the remains of a factory sticker on one side but any data that used to be on it is long gone. The chuck is a Jacobs. The guy at the flea market thought it might have started life as a fuel pump handle, but I don't think so. Any thoughts?

Postscript: I opened up the hand drill, and it is indeed designed as such, it has an intricate and well-built gear setup in there, along with a good packing of bearing grease, there is no way this thing could have originally been anything other than a hand drill.

That being said, it's still a very unique design! Anyone ever see anything like this before? I would love to know who made it originally.

Still going lightweight. Two estate sales and three garage sales this morning=$13.
First stop had a 2drawer crown logo Cman chest with remnants if a bad rattlecan makeover but mostly rust and the smell of damp shed. It had a 8" JPDaniels Vanadium wrench with the 12pt broach in handle. I should have bought it, despite missing the screw/shaft that holds the thunb adjuster. When I circled back to get it, the chest and contnets were gone, allegedly bought for $50. But they had a couple tools left that I hadn't seen first time, so I picked up a S-O hammer (needs parts) 2 small USA files and a "Hazet" 8/13mm DOE.
Only one other sale held interest, where I picked up a nearly complete Cman VL 3/8&1/4dr metric socket set, an additional Cman V 3/8 ratchet, extension, socket, hexbit holder, and S-O deep socket, plus a partial B&D set of drill and hex bits
Yesterday I passed up a light blue Stanley Vidmar desk-height 4-drawer base w a 60" hardwood top for $160. Lady was very nice and aware she was underpricing it. Nearly died from frustrated avarice, but I don't have the floorspace and my surgeon says no lifting more than 5lbs. So I bought an empty folder file for $1, and gave it to my daughter, who's moving into a new apartment this weekend (with no help from me).

Dang riley you and I are in the same wavelength lately I as well have recently picked up a nice old Baldor which I cleaned up. I'm using both religiously, hope you enjoy yours as well. And take it easy during this heat that is finally hitting us. [emoji482]

Excellent finds!

Looking at CL lately, half the garage sale listings are on your side of the river. Even though I work in North Portland, I won't venture across the bridge out of fear of getting caught in a bridge lift or other traffic nightmares. Looks like you're doing pretty well!

Can't remember who was looking for Husky 8pt sockets, found a 7/8" today along with the other golden items.
