My prewar Union box all the hardware says 'Union'In 1944 they replaced the leather handle with the collapsible type metal handle. I've seen guys misidentify them as postwar, but they are definitely WWII. The paltry clasp-type locks on the Union-made boxes were made by Excelsior of Stamford, CT. I've included a photo below of the late war box with the collapsing metal handle and also one with a pair of keys, one shown n the ground, so you can see what it looked like.
Nice!I happen to have a few examples of the pictured wood 49-1-84 ammo chest as well.
Sorry, Slew, but I don't know.My prewar Union box all the hardware says 'Union'
Do they all take the same key?
Drop the truck off at the house grab the car and headed up to an auction an hour away. Crab dip some good stuff.
Nothing like moving to make a guy gunshy about stuff.
Could not find any sales today but picked up this Matco smcfsm10t 10 pc metric Crowsfoot set for $25 at a pawn shop I stopped at. I would say I did pretty well since they appear to be unused.![]()

Am i the only one to see the robot face! that guy may be my new avatar!
I know the feeling about hobbies getting out of control. But I also see house work getting out of control too! I haven't worked on my garage cause of house projects. Lately I've been buying just stuff I think I'll need. So my style of buying has been picky.

This one is a 9/32 Deco too.Mine is marked Deco.
Another quickie (trip to flea) w the wife netted these items for $4.

I'm looking for a cheap or free bike like that Raleigh for a booze cruiser. That thing looks nice!
Cheap or free being key since it would be locked up outside a lot of breweries and if it gets nicked, well, I wouldn't be out much except a walk.
I rarely "need" (from a utility perspective) anything I buy at a flea market, but I'm a very selective picker. Having a niche (WWII) helps with that, but lately I've been branching out a little if it's something special or catches my eye.Lately I've been buying just stuff I think I'll need. So my style of buying has been picky.
What are the blades in that contour gage made of?Another quickie (trip to flea) w the wife netted these items...
I'm always picky, and often buy something I think I'll need; sometimes I need it ten years later is all!![]()

I also have a steel contour gage from the 40's. It was in a leather pocket folder. I could tell the owner treated it like a precision machinists' tool. (That's a steal on a field desk!)Some type of plastic. They're not labeled, but they have the sheen and flex of HDPE. I have one with steel pins, which tend to stick if allowed to corrode. BTW, I saw a military field desk like the one you had posted, marked $75. This one looked like it had been very recently repainted (still OD).
You DO know that riding a bicycle while "over the limit" can still get you a DUI? (heard one guy got it got riding a horse intoxicated!)
CM made those DP vises thru the 70's, same style. What logo or engraving is on it?
In the first pic, what is that SnapOn thing? looks like some type of valve adjuster? And more.
