Over the years a number of guys have found and shown vintage hand trucks and dollies here, which I have always enjoyed from afar, never having run into one myself before. Today I spotted the base of one at my Early Bird flea market. The vendor was an antiques guy, unfortunately, and he was quick to accentuate the famous Hammacher Schlemmer & Co. name on it, so I knew before I even asked that it would be unaffordable and I was right, but I snapped a few photos. Also marked "No. 1" and "MALLEABLE IRON."

Taking 3 weeks off from sales may have broken me. :(
Pickings are slim this weekend, but the ONE sale that might be promising just doesn't interest me. It's in an area that isn't convenient (for me) to get to and I don't have the interest to try. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I may not bother with the flea market either.

My desire to hunt is gone. Maybe it's just misplaced. I'll have to look in the couch cushions or under seat in my truck. Damn, where'd my other sock go ???

Bunch of stops again but only two panned out.

36980425235_ec7c4d2f02_c.jpg

First stop got me the bins and rack for 2$. Only wanted the bins, but I'll find something to do with the rack.

Second stop got me all the rest for 10$.
- Crown top 2' level
- Heritage logo ball pein hammer (logo seems intact, just need to clean the crud off the handle without hurting it, any tips?)
- 3 Pre-Irwin, made in USA, Quick Grips clamps
- 3 Brinks & Cotton 3" C-clamps.

Picked up Way too much paint ball stuff.
I only needed a tank adapter for an air gun, but fifty bucks bought me about 15 tanks and a complete set of armor and pistol guns for two people, 2000 plus rounds andots of littlle unknown stuff.
I'll keep three tanks and the filler (if I find one amongst it all), then some kid is going to get lucky when I give it all away.

Prices seemed high today at the flohmarkt in Germany. I was near a former US base so I was able to snag an Easco USA 1" socket and a made in USA Stanley phillips. The other Stanley Thrifty is from England. Also got an assortment of made in Germany punches and taps, and a Matador Mercedes Benz wrench. I probably overpaid at $9 but the Euro exchange rate is going in the wrong direction. I was eying an older german impact driver but there was no COO. I couldn't get them to come down to 5 Euros and wasn't convinced of the quality so I passed.

It's definitely the Doldrums of Summer Jake! between the holiday weekend, and the heat wave we are experiencing here (hottest its been in 2-3 years, hitting triple digits yesterday and more to come for the next two days...), I couldn't find ANY I wanted to go to as ot late last night. this AM I managed to find 2 late posters. and one of those was a no show!

So all I have to show for a planned two stop run, plus two TOO's (one of which was Also a No-Show :wtf:) is a clutch/purse something bag I'll turn into a first aid Kit, two key Fobs, and a stack of DVD's from a free pile! $2 all!

attachment.php

One fob is for my Movie trivia addicted daughter, the other is from Montgomery Wards? :dunno: Looked interesting...

attachment.php

The interior of the Clutch like thing. if it wasn't so suited for the First Aid use, I would use this as my Radio Bag for the GRMS Cobras. Good size for it. as it is I'll stock it up with essential First aid stuff and keep it in the rig full time. that way I'l also have it for camping.

Lugz, nice find on the Box! you sure have a honey hole for militaria in that FM!
Thanks. Yes, it's in a great spot, located between Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst, the former Fort Monmouth, and the former Raritan Arsenal. It's also known for being a place for house clearance guys, typically at least 12 or so and sometimes as many as 20 or more, each guy with a house load in his trailer. So it's like hitting 20 estate sales in one place at one time. Between those guys and the regular vendors and the people selling off their grandpa's stuff, militaria is bound to show up. And there's almost always vintage hand tools, because there was a lot of small industry here (machine shops, forges, and mills).

So I hit the habitat restore. I spent less than 15$ and picked up a body hammer a couple of ballpeens, a tack hammer, craftsman speed bar, craftsman manifold wrench, 1/2 inch extension c-man and a plumb bob.

 Jake, I managed to keep from going anywhere for over a month. Can't say the desire was going away though. The urge just kept at me!

I finally went out today and am happy with the results. New area, new flea markets to conquer, lol.

Picked up Way too much paint ball stuff.

Sounds like a deal for the money. Never tried it but sure looks like a blast. No pun intended.

Thanks for checking in from Germany. So flohmarkt is how you say it. Good to know. I'm not surprised you found an Easco near the base.

Thanks for joining us. One of the bests threads going!

It does seem like an endless supply there. Either that or Lugz is great at finding stuff.

It's something the box is labeled what it is. Just in case one would forget.

So today I hit up a flea as mentioned. I moved all the way to Florida, and somehow I ran into a flea buddy from back home. I saw him and thought boy that guy looks familiar. :headscrat We looked at each other like :wtf:, and then . We hung out for a bit and it probably could have turned into :drink:, but he's with his boss here on business. Small world.

As far as shopping today, the biggest shocker was I spent 15 minutes digging through rusty screwdrivers and wrenches and pulled out an early unmarked Duro reversible female ratchet. This thing was black, sooooo greasy and covered in dirt stuck to the grease. The gear barely turned and the dirt was grinding inside it. You guys can picture it right?

I walked over to the little old lady with this filthy thing in my hand and she took it in her hand :shocking: . Then she says 8 bucks! I had to leave it. One of those times I wish I had a video camera on my shoulder because it would greatly enhance the story!

Anyway, I came away happy with today's haul.

Snap on 1/2 speeder

Kane 1/2 socket set 7/16 - 7/8. :rocker: Not something I expected to find. I have a ratchet already.

Wizard 1/2 ratchet

Sockets from Plomb, Gedore, Matco, Kobalt

Armstrong shorty

ORIGINAL-SEEGER ring pliers (Germany). Another odd brand to me. Excellent shape and heavy spring action.

Couple hole punches by Osborne and Flexco.

Pliers- Pexto, Klein, Hapewe (Germany), Gambles Artisan! kinda neat

Last but not least my big find for 3 bucks is the vintage Harley Davidson chain breaker.

Not a bad haul for just under 30 bucks.

I was utterly devastated today. Wife and I drove out to Lancaster to see our son. Stopped on the way at a flea market near Kutztown. Totally empty! Across the road, another one was setting up, but not matching the number of vendors. Spotted a good number of handtools, but nothing I had to have. There was a Viet Nam era military folding shovel (Ames 1965) that caught my eye, but they wanted $8 and the handle had been painted beige, I guess to conceal a fissure running along the grain. It's the sort of thing that happens when it's left in the rain and sun, I think. Plus I already have a 1968 Ames in better condition. So I left with nothing.
In Lancaster, I dropped in at Hidden Treasures on N Prince Street. After concientiously looking around the place, I went up the stair to "Kim's Space," which had hundreds of all sorts of tools. Gone! Empty shelves!
Kim apparently has moved all his tools into a different location and may not even be selling anymore.
Devastated...

Well, I forced myself to go to the Flea Market this morning. As I figured, the threat of rain and the holiday weekend kept most vendors away. Only 6 vendors in the main field when I pulled in. The other field looked empty. I took a look around the corner anyway, and saw 3 more vendors waaaaaay in the back. So, a total of 9 tables out of a normal 250-300 today.

Many of the vendors will be setting up at Brimfield next week, so we'll see who's left.

No tools in the main field so I wandered off to the back of the side field. Nothing worth checking out, except :

Milwaukee Electric Tools sign - $15
I'm thinking 90's, but I could be wrong. It may replace my modern repro, not sure yet.

100_2641.jpg

Then on the way home I had to stop at O'Reilly's and on my way to check out I spotted this cute (yes, I said it) little 1/4dr ratchet for $9.99. It's only 3" long. It came home with me.

100_2642.jpg

Not quite ready to jump back into sales mode yet, but it's a start.

OBTW - spent yesterday replacing the brush guard and skid plate on my truck. I finally got to use the Makita electric 1/2dr impact gun that I picked up earlier this year to take off what was left of the old one. It easily busted the frozen bolts. That was a $5 purchase well spent.

As if on cue from the dialogue we had yesterday about my flea market, I ran into this stack of OD trunks today at one of the house close-out guy’s spots. They all came out of the rafters of a garage.

I suspected before I checked under the lids that they were from the era of “the forgotten war”, which is a little less forgotten these days, and I was right.

View media item 74252
Some of them had things inside – tarps, half-tents, and various articles of clothing, all of it NOS, and almost all of it dated 1951 to 1953 as well. I was fortunate enough to acquire four very nice items.

View media item 74253
Aviator’s coveralls, rare enough, size EXTRA LARGE LONG which is even rare and luckier for me, as I plan to add them to the line of coveralls (Army and Navy fleece-lined deck pants) that I wear around the unheated garage and for riding my 1943 BSA WDM20 when the weather turns cold. Not dated, but the 11-digit stock number is no later than 1953.

A 1953 dated wool field jacket – these were cut short at the waist, like WWII Ike jackets, which I like. It also fits just fine.

Today's flea/antique store finds.

A couple plomb swivel sockets, an older sk socket to fill a hole I have, a pto clutch, Bridgeport bell systems screwdriver, no named screwdriver, and Stanley stubby. A little under $15 for everything.

Awesome stuff guys! I found some more good items at the ReStore yesterday
Last time I was there, they had an 8ft section with locks, door hardware, etc - and yesterday it was gone! Very strange.
1) Lori double cylinder deadbolt, NOS
2) Don-jo latch guard, NOS
3) box of EMT fittings, screws, anchors, and a 5/16 magnetic hex driver
4) not shown - Craftsman 3/8 drive 1/4" hex socket

Rain yesterday put a hurt on things. No good Yard Sales advertised, so headed to PA to the Market on Rt 30 east of York. Weather kept most outside vendors away. Found one guy with some old tools, mainly rusted but should clean up.
Found an SK combo wrench for .25 and 4 Cman sockets for .50 each. Other than a nice drive and breakfast, not a real good day hunting bargins.

A couple of interesting things to add to the collection
1)1/4 upland ratchet
2)a proto los Angeles wood handled screw driver

Any idea on the age of the screwdriver?

No sales for me, been trying to take it easy on my feet since I've been on them 13 hrs a day for 5 days. With plantar fasciitis flared up, steroids shots in both feet on Wednesday, they are yelping in pain.

So I just enjoy y'all's great scores!
