A few finds today.....

First find is a Gould Imperial Eastman 45° double flaring tool kit - $4 bucks....




Next, a vintage VW jack - $4 bucks



Lastly, a set of 4 Pacer chrome center caps - $30 bucks......I only needed one to replace a damaged one on my rail buggy, but Amazon sells just one cap for $25+ bucks so I figgured I'd have 3 spares if needed. (they are in excellent shape)....

So I hit the Flea last week end SAt and Sun, made 2 small hauls. Also hit a couple G Sales. At the G sale guy had a nice little Gas powered pressure washer.. said $5... I asked he said its got a leak some where.. but still works fine... just leaks.. started it up motor ran great... so $5 it was! Leak seems to be between the pump and the motor. Need more investigation. flea I ended up with 3 vises, Craftsman, General Vacuvise swivel, and a Tesco all in good shape pretty much cept a crack in the craftsman lower part. Also ended up wioth Craftsman Circle H breaker and a swivel, along with some thin Tappets. and an SK socket box, looks to be for deeps maybe. Also a Craftsman sliding square.

Next day I found some Plomb WF series sockets, Proto impact sockets, Indestro/duro female ratchet in great shape, a Snap ON..FOR 50 cents!! Mty first SO ratchet actually. and a weird ratchet pivot with Sockets in the handle. Also found a small 3" pony clamp and a 1 lb peen hammer. not too bad of a haul over last week end. Spent around $40 in all.

Thanks! I can wait to mess with it and get it going~! I knew it was well worth it just for the running motor. The hot rod: thats Dads coupe we been working on for three years now. Ground up build. chopped 4", tons of goodies. Even A/C. Its been on the road almost a year. Ready for body work and paint next! And I have started on my 30 Model A pickup now : )

My truck has been down waiting for the bed to get painted so I havent had my freedom to roam the sales but the wife was home today and had a hair appointment. I tagged along and got to stop at an estate sale when she had her appointment.


I saw in the corner of one of the pics the bullet in the estate sale adds but I didnt think it would be there if it was priced right when I was able to stop at the end of the day. This was the first bullet I have found in the wild. The haul is

Wilton (not sure of the size or model i need to tear it down)

Heres the newest old ratchet find, beside my identified Indestro no marked female ratchet. They are very similar. Havent looked at the pat. number on either myself. (Newer find is on the left with the concave handle.)

I'll start with the auction earlier this week. This was a nuisance because I didn't win what I wanted, the lathe that would have made it worthwhile. But I got a couple of shop accessories that I have been wanting. First was a 3/8 air hose and reel. Just put a couple of o rings in today and it works like a charm. Then a couple of machine vises which actually work properly. Last was a whim, just couldn't believe no one bid on the stool and step, so I got them for $5 opening bid.

Picked up a couple nice sets of 1/2" drive sockets this morning. A set of Snap On 3/8"-1 1/2" shallow and a set of Wright 3/8" - 1 1/2" deep. Was really only after the Wright set as I already have most of the Snap On in this case but the gentleman took $140 for everything I will keep the Wright set and the 1 3/16' - 1 1/2" Snap On sockets and sell the remainder. I should be able to walk away with these new sockets when all is said and done with no or very little money out of pocket.

Talk about riding a horse until it drops, this company has had more mergers and acquisitions than a cheap *****, and they just keep knocking these flaring kits out. Imperial Brass Mfg Co, the initial incarnation, goes way back. They supplied flaring kits in WWII (I have a few). Then it was Imperial Eastman. Then, apparently, Gould Imperial Eastman. Who knows what the company name is today - probably a whole sentence long by now!

I'll post more photos as soon as I can. The only Crafty I remember off the top of my head were either duckbills or chain nose.

I was talking about the one with sockets in the handle.

Definitely a first for me! Clever idea (built-in socket set kit), but did you see how wide the handle is? Maybe that's why it never caught on.

Here are my Early Bird finds this morning.

The leather tool case is called a Knickerbocker. Lump found a similar case back in May that most likely belonged to a traveling National Cash Register (NCR) repairman. If you've never seen one before, they have a sort of “top box,” if you will, built in under that main flap, and a pass-through slot underneath that where tin small parts trays slide in from a flap in one end. Like Lump’s, this one had some tools in that were very telling of its use, and it wasn't cash register machine repair. I plan to start a new thread on the vintage board soon, linking his.

The 6” slip-joint pliers are CEE TEE CO model H26’s, which were issued to every Willys MB after 1943.

The feeler gage is a 9-leaf Herbrand, .002 to .015, unfortunately. The WWII GMTK took a 9-leaf gage, but .0015 to .015, with a few different sizes than this one.

Went to a barn/tool sale this morning that looked like it was going to turn into a Ballroom Blitz at one point. Lots of elbow flinging and "that's my pile" going on. I didn't wade in until a clear hole opened up, no tool is worth that kind of hassle. Most of the tools that were there were easily found a Home Depot or Sears anyway. The things that had a price on them were high. I kept my hands off a lot of it.

I ended up spending $45, and most of that went towards the impact wrench.

Two of biggest peeves at estate sales are people who make piles and then wander off. I mean really, either put it on the spoken for table, or stay with in arms reach and be able to move it. I might want what you have under it, or might need to move something that way. I feel no remorse about moving an unattended pile rather brusquely. Not to mention others might like what you like. I won't go through others piles, if I know that is what they are. Others aren't so kind. Like the people working there.

Also, people who try to look things up on their phone. Either it is worth something to you or not.

Craftsman BE ratchet, Proto Puller arms, Blue Point DBE and impact driver, Proto feeler gauge, Crossman .22 pellets, misc, Snap On and Proto sockets, Lufkin screw pitch gauge and a cool little collapsible magnifier. Boy, that guy shure liked to hang things on the wall, the Williams box has a hole in the back to hang from a screw. Anyway, $20 for everything. If I have time, I will go back tomorrow, as that was a bit of a rat hole, probably something nice squirled away.

Not quite a yard sale find as much as a trade for something I had about $50 bucks in...

I got an offer to receive a 24 piece Snap-On 3/8" 8-19 mm Shallow/Deep Combination Socket Set and a Snap-on 3/8" ratchet.

I didn't think twice about that trade. And I got free delivery to my house.

I picked up two combo wrench's marked NASA today.

They look and feel very high quality, paid $3 for each of them. Hoping they might have actually come from NASA and helped put a man on the moon...a guy can dream can't he?

Also picked up this vintage Husky 1/2" ratchet which is just like one of my old Craftsman ratchets.

I kind of loitered a bit and when he asked about the brand of a tool he sounded interesting it, I snapped it up as soon as she set it down and wandered around with it for a while.

Didn't buy it, just wandered while he fumed on the phone.

Yeah, I'm a **** like that.

Shamelessly convenient hijack of this sentiment to remind one and all that I am still looking for a 1940's-era box for a 3/8-inch square drive socket set! The decal is in the middle of the lid with the older straight up and down underline script Williams MADE < W > USA logo!

Also picked up this vintage Husky 1/2" ratchet which is just like one of my old Craftsman ratchets.

New Britain made these for their (NB), NONE BETTER, and Husky brands, and for Crafty BE and (H).

Mrs No_Garage and I stopped by a local sale this AM on the way back from the store. It's an older guy selling tools. I see a Columbian 605 vise and ****** it up. He had a bunch of other cool stuff including a nice oak desk but it was too big for the room we would put it in.

The swivel handles are bent up a bit and it's filthy with oil/grease nit otherwise it seems fine. He has a SB lathe for sale in the tool room (that wasn't open).

The vise is sitting on a BD Workmate I grabbed from the curb a while ago - it's heading to my Dad's but handy to put this beast down on for the moment.

No sales for me today. Prepping the property today for a new asphalt driveway and truss delivery next week and working on the garage build tomorrow. Happy hunting, all!
