Went to a bunch of sales today and only found a few things. Highlights: Williams doe, proto brass hammer head, Mac stubby, long c craftsman, SK breaker bar with the diamond logo, and an interesting pair of kraeuter? pliers. Spent 12 dollars all told.

There are plenty of tool dealers that travel from swap meet to swap meet regardless of the advertised intent of the meet. Also keep in mind that vintage car guys often have vintage tools. There's never a shortage of tools to choose from. Never.

I did alright today; More tools that I've been averaging this year so that's good, and some camp gear and gear making supplies, and that's always good.

Some good stops some dead, and Some good TOO's!

First stop was a block sale, and after the first pick, the second had lots of Camping/hiking/hunting gear.

Thos Canvas bag caught my eye, the handles are in a wired place though!

Cents fifty:

A main theme seemed to be everyone was "rounding up" to $20, I kept countering for $15, and they kept accepting!

that second stop was that way, and I got a Weber mini Kettle:

A decent fabric (not woven/bonded poly) trap:

And mostly Camping related; three sparkers for fire making the orange one is a Gerber and has AWESOME sparking!

A belt pouch, a sport Wallet, Parachute cord, folding wood stove (in the blue/purple pouch), Camo makeup including 4 military issue sticks, A nice Leopold retracting lens brush, and a bag of snap buckles for 1" webbing.

Got some freebie Curb Pickup stuff between stops: 4 Tripod stands for presentations. Tow are fully functional adn one of those will become a stand/Station for the solar recharge station I made up. The other larger MAY become a lantern stand, or I may use the larger one for both purposes. Hmmm.

Another TOO yard sale got a fair score on tools, I'l post more detailed pics of these later as I need to get back to finishing the tent! But there are 6" Rigid off set pipe wrenches, Small NN vise grips, Proto, New Britain and other name brand wrenches...

And it was the $15 rule...

Another TOO got this Mollie digital camo canteen cover, so I'll combine a latest tech canteen cover with an almost 100 YO Canteen! (I had the WWI 1918 Canteen already) Three bucks.

Finally some decent sales after the hurricane.
Score !! 2 Craftsman metal wrench holders, in pretty good shape. Found them in a dark shed, used a crappy old screwdriver to get them loose.
Parrot jaw wrench, Protot needlenose, Matco wire strippers, assorted USA wrenches, Hanson plumb bob
and several metal rules and pencils with local business names from the past.
On the left of the second pic is Malco Duct knife, has to be high carbon steel blade.
Craftsman dado blade set, Snap On hand impact , 2 rolls old solder, some shop class drawers (love hand made stuff)
36 in steel rule, old torch and a small jack to go into van for vacation travel.

A planned stop - someone cleaning out Grandpa's stuff:

Aluminum Welding rod storage tube: 2-3/4" X 14", Prop bottle, bumper hooks, two mostly full boxes of bars of tool steel bit material, Plvmb & Indestro wrenches, Thorsen Ratchet, 2 U Bolts, small clamp, a pin pattern, and I had to have the Wards paint sticks as they made me smile "Color is out Business"

and 4 car accessory lights. I suspect the 2 older are 6V, the other two are NOS Ford! I cant decide if I should flip them or use them!

The $15 rule applied here too!

Lastly it was back to the second Block sale for a second look and to get something that was gone...

4 rolls to the camo tape (showing 1) 144 inches X 2", two new wool knit caps one with a bill, A flashlight adapter, to a scope type rail, Lantern/Stove parts, a Ka-Bar Mollie adaptor (I assume for a bayonet), and this odd Hook. We bent the $15 rule, this time t was tan and offered 8...

The "grip" is 3/8" and the rest is made of 1/4" bar...

I suspect it had something to to with Hunting/Game processing, but no clue..

Hit a few sales, flea markets and antique stores today. First stop netted the 2 Ridgid pipe/hex wrenches, the lathe chuck, balanced ball handle, and what I now know is jointer for saw sharpening. It has a file inside it and is used to get the teeth of the saw all the same height before sharpening. These were all on the $1. ea. tarp.
Next stop at a flea market yielded the little Stanly vise for $5. Then an antique store advertised they were doing 20% off everything in the store. Found the little Athol vise there, cost $38, almost didn't buy it, price was a little higher than a bottom feeder like myself likes, but I talked myself into it. Figure I should be able to flip the lathe chuck for more than that once it comes out of the Evaporust. So I basically asked myself "would you trade the lathe chuck for the vise"? "Yes, yes I would".

I scored a dewalt Pressure washer With Honda motor for $10. Guy said it doesn't run and he thinks the pump is bad. I cleaned the carb and it's running fine now. I just need to figure out how to rebuild the pump and I'll be in good shape. If it's a lost cause I can flip the motor at least!

A Cushman 8" Chuck, jaws move but couldn't get it off the angle iron it was bolted to, $10. A small compressor head, $7.50, need help to ID. A Craftsman 100 heavy duty DP, motor dated 4/47, table without holes, very dirty but complete except one feed handle $50. Two corny kegs, 5gal, $2 each, one needs lid other needs base.

Nothing for me at the few YS/GS's I checked out yesterday morning.

However, in the afternoon me and the GF were going on small road trip (1.5 hours away) to attend an awards banquet. Finally gave me the opportunity to go and visit this place:

I've been seeing his ads on Kiijiji for years and have been trying to find an excuse to go yet I haven't managed so until now. None of the pawn shops/second hand stores here in town have a good tool inventory, and the one that has the most is priced through the roof. Kind of half expected the same out of this guy but I was relatively surprised.

Prices were decent but I didn't have a lot of time to sift through. Ended up grabbing two items:

- Black & Decker Gripmate in the original box (missing the dogs )
- No 10 Vise Grip, my first old set without the release lever.

12$ for both items.

If anyone ever comes accross the dogs/pegs for the gripmates I'll buy them off of you

He had a whole bunch of cool stuff that I either didn't have the cash for, or need for at this time. I'll have to make another trip and give myself more time to sift through his stuff.

Managed to grab this precision machinists' clamp (Patented 1945), Blue-Point battery terminal spreaders, and, mainly on a lark, the \\//ulcan brake tool!

So after I finished my business in Tacoma on Sat. I was able to find another estate sale and get back to the one I was at on Friday, to sift for more treasure. So, the one I as at on Friday yielded the following on Sat:

Proto vise grip, Proto LA drag link socket and Mayhew roll pin punches. Set me back $3. But boy did he like to engrave.
The other sale was listed as a Man Cave, and with promising pics I couldn't pass. Also it was down the street from my last customer.

Hinsdale drain plug socket, Proto puller parts (found a lot of these lately) a bunch of Snap On 9/32 deep, from the 20's and 30's by the date code, and a lot of them are speciallty carb sockets, or maybe gland nut sockets.

12" Cornwell extension with C code and a 2 foot long Proto LA driver, #9744. Also found this...

That clamp is part of a Starrett back plunger dial indicator set. It should have a rod inserted in the hole held with a set screw.

I think it will work with any dial indicator, pete, regardless of the mfgr. The patent is 2,371,451 if you're up for some light reading.

A nice grouping of Chanellocks (No. 337 dykes, No. 3078 chain nose, and No. 516 flat nose slip-joints).

- Smith & Hemenway RED DEVIL No. 542 dykes, probably made by Kraeuter

- "Bridgeport Line" universal slip joint pliers with classic very early Kraeuter ”The Victor” pattern jaws, for gripping round objects, a V-groove slot through the lower jaw for gripping a wire pin or tiny rod, a notch for cutting wire, and a pry bar/driver tip on one handle end. These have the BHM logo inside the diamond that is usually left blank on Kraeuter’s earliest dimpled diamond grip pattern pliers.

- CRAFTSMAN chain nose pliers with the “nested diamonds” pattern. AA dates these to wartime, but I suspect post-war. They did have pliers with the same underline or long-C Craftsman logo seen on socket drive tools.

Went to the CRAPPY Melrose Park, IL SWAPORAMA today since Wolff's Flea Market in Rosemont is presumably done for the year. Afterwards and without buying anything I spotted an estate sale not far away that was on the second and final sale day which advertised tools and had an owner-built mahogany boat listed.
Turns out the place was a time capsule, but most of the good stuff was gone by this afternoon..
...but--some careful looking around found these..





They are original Watervliet Planishing Hammer hoops!! I spent another hour looking around in hopes of finding the hammer or anvils-with no luck.. I wonder if they were even at the sale--or if they've been long absent.. for $10 they were an absolute steal and now I have to pay up eventually for the hammer or get REAL lucky and find one at my "safe" price range..

The seller at the sale was really trying to sell me more stuff-and I ended up taking these two cabinets for $10 (for the pair) [emoji106] (the original asking price on the tags was $70each!!)

I had a busy Saturday at the local automotive swap meet, but before I post my finds from there, I'll begin with this story that I already posted on the Craftsman Block Grinder thread:

I didn't want to buy this. Really, I didn't!

This 3/4 HP Commercial block has been up for sale on CL almost two weeks. I bought a Craftsman vise from this guy the day he listed these and during our conversation, I encouraged him not to sell it for anything less than his asking price of $100 - a steal for anyone who needs a good bench grinder!

Anyways, I heard from other members asking if I could talk him into selling it for less, but I stood my ground on that price as I really liked the guy and he needed the $$ for his impending move.

He contacted me a couple days ago and asked me if I wanted it. I told him I already own two 3/4 HP blocks (and now a 1 HP block) and couldn't justify another. "But", he said, "I will throw in some attachments I found when I was packing".

Dammit.

So I went ahead and rescued this beautiful block before someone else talked him down in price.

For $100 I received:

- Craftsman Commercial Model 397.19671 "Block" grinder.
- Craftsman bench grinder pedestal stand
- Craftsman Tool Holder Grinding Attachment "Ideal for sharpening blades, chisels, screwdrivers, etc."
- Craftsman 9-6677 Drill Grinding Attachment
- All original paperwork including owner's manuals, spare parts order sheet, and reciept
- The remnants of the original tool holder box.

Note: It came with the eye shields. I too them off to clean them up and forgot to reattach them before taking pictures.

Edit: The first two photos are from the original CL ad. I bought that Craftsman 506-51830 4" swivel vise on a Craftsman bench grinder pedestal stand for $50 a couple weeks ago. The last picture is what the vise looks like today.

As I stated in my last post, I went to a swap meet Saturday. It wasn't very big, but there are numerous tool vendors that regularly attend all the various swap meets throughout Western Oregon & Washington, and this was no disappointment. My two favorite vendors are guys that lay out tables full of tools and charge $1/ea. There's plenty of chinese junk but there's always lots of good American made tools to be had.

Pictures 1 -3 are all the DBE wrenches I purchased Saturday. They've all been cleaned up now, but most were pretty rusty and came off the $1 tables. A couple wrenches were $.50/ea while the big P&C DBE and the Blue Point DBE wrenches cost more.

That odd wrench is only marked "Charley" and is a "ratcheting" DOE - which I've never seen before now. I think Charley is the brand name. I'll take better pix today.

First up has is a Fleet/Penens No. P2005 1/4" drive (incomplete) socket set as seen in this 1950 catalog page. Many thanks to Private Lugnutz for taking the time to look this up for me! The set was $20

Next up is a 1/2" drive breaker bar I acquired from Smokeshow69. Notice how the drive square is indexed 45° off? I've never seen anything like it!

And finally is this unusual P&C socket set. The drive tool is non-ratcheting and had a spring loaded ball bearing to hold the sockets. The sockets have no markings whatsoever (not even sizes) and no detent for the ball bearing on the wrench to hold against. $5

Lugz, I think that clamp is part of a dial indicator holder set.
