I took it apart to see what was wrong with it. It has a leather cup seal that is 7/16" I can't find a replacement, Coleman lantern ones are too big, but I did find a tutorial on YouTube on how to make one. I'll put it on my shelf of things I think I might actually get around to fixing someday.
This is what I needed for my 322, what model pistol do you have? My 177 hasn't needed anything yet.

ALL: yep PICKING IS PICKING and i'm not sure if getting tools given to you by relatives or friends was on the list, but I bet that would count too.
:D

Most all my picking happens at "in person auctions" (not mentioned here in years), but when i post, i always post "i picked this". So like u said above picking is the universal reason for posting here. Have a great picking new year guys!

I hit an little estate sale in Castro Valley, CA this morning and picked up a few vintage tools. The first picture is all of the items. The second picture is Snap-on and Blue Point including a 2" 3/8" drive crows foot. The third picture is P&C and Bonney. The fourth picture is Proto LA. The fifth picture is the Millers Falls machinists tool cleaned up. The last picture is me testing my Duro Chrome crossbar on the Duro Chrome flex handle. It was a perfect fit.

JM, you just keep knockin it outta the park. That's turned out to be a great find.
Bill

Very nice, and nicely done on that haul JM. That Matco/Knipex alone...You ****!

Thanks guys.....I know we all find deals pennies on the dollar, and that's what makes this tool picking fun...
Usually, I'll price out some of the items I find with the current retail prices of like items, just to see how much I've REALLY SAVED.... :lol_hitti

I ran just 3 items from this find....the Matco/Knipex PDC10....the Snap-On CJ92 puller.....and the Snap-On R-1214 ratchet wrench.....retail prices were over $183+....

It's unbelievable sometimes.......:willy_nil

OK back on track for the thread:

Bobcat - Nice find! Is if broken beyond repair or just the usual two stroke sitting around issues?

I hit up 2 Estate sales and one I may have been the first to peruse the limited tool selection. certainly it did not look picked over! I soon had a double handful and the lady in the garage gave me a SS tray to temporally hold things. I got concerned about prices when she mentioned the hand saws were $20! (and nothing special at all about ANY of them...)

I started going inside the house and she made me leave the tray until I came back, assuring me no one would touch them. Inside I found NOTHING, so came back out and asked how much? I know some of you were probably thinking I'd have to fight somebody off that was trying to cherry pick my stuff, but all was well. Sometimes you have to trust people!

She hemmed and hawed a few seconds and said $30, I said I was thinking $20, and she said fine., so clearly not locked in.

Not Bad! the Sundance patch an Bell were from Estate sale No. two, and she gave them to me with a happy new year's! (I'm a regular and she's always good to me...) Everything else was ES No. 1.

The water pump pliers and two punches are all P&C, one piece of a GAM nesting driver set (enough singles and eventually I may get another full set...), A tiny driver, a Stanley (red) and a flat sided no-name, the ratcheting driver needs oil... Which I also bought; a two oz military can from Standard oil of New Jersey, and its full! Only a few drops gone, if that!

The Bal Peen is a Kaydox? (never heard of them) about 5 oz. Stanley Punch, The pipe tobacco tin has small Tile pieces the ladies will use, I wanted the tin... Adjustable 2" Clamp (my seventh that size and brand), the reamer is Craftsman of the Long C era/geometric font, but no underline.

Disston 8' mini tape, Brass "Safety pin" the 4" adjustable is Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co. - I think it's 1946-1958. (Horseshoe logo, and reinforcing ring ?), adn the little 6" hack saw Frame. No name but I like the compact size. I'l need to sort out some blades, but this will go into my Road box...

attachment.php

The hatchet? You thought I would never get there, didn't you? It's a Bridgeport, and being a "newer" rubber handle I almost left it! I did pick it up and turned it over and saw Bridgeport... and the BSA Logo! :rocker: Its not the best Boy Scout hatchet, but it IS a BSA branded hatchet! :bounce:

All in all, a good day!
Outlaw, have that same mini hacksaw, posted pics here https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=371029&highlight=mini Hoping for ID, but no luck.

Outlawmws: The ball-pein is a "Maydox". I have a pair of 32 ozers I call my "Tic-Tac-Toe" hammers. Both of them have "U.S.N." crudely stamped on the cheek. One of them has a big "X" weld-marked on the flip side, and the other one has a big "O" weld-marked on the flip side. :)

Eleven days in to 2018, and only 15 pages?
Ha! Any of you guys baseball fans? I attribute the high early rate to an elevated level of "hot stove" chatter activity from those of us who were snowed in and frozen out combined with some stellar early finds from our warmer weather participants. We've had a big melt last couple days and I am hoping for a good day at my early bird tomorrow!

Yesterday I went out to see a lathe. About 2 1/2 hours up there due to traffic. Picked up Taumac on the way as it was close to his home, and I needed help lifting it. LOL. Its a 1938 South Bend which came with a lot of tooling. In fact if I sell the extras I might even break even. The Dumore Toolpost grinder alone would almost cover it. I think I saw parts for a milling attachment in there as well.
While I was there I got talked into a wet/dry grinder which I will get good use from.
The seller has a few more things of interest, just not (currently) for me. Anyway you want pictures..... These are still on the floor of my trailer.

FYI.....I cleaned the rust of of the little ball peen hammer I couldn't find any maker's mark (original post #257 https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6953517&postcount=257)
Found out it was a USA Blue Point.....Just Sayin'..... :rocker:
BPH1.jpg
.

I got one almost exactly like that for $5 at a local second hand building supply store. Blue Point is great! I think it still had the original handle, and I used it two days ago...still great for smacking your palm and giving you a massive blood blister! :wtf::rocker:

Nice! I've bought around 5 lathes in the last two years. I keep finding a better more complete unit, and selling the previous ones. They are heavy and a pain to move, but they sure are handy when you need one.

Model 107, they don't make any parts for it.

What parts do you need? Most are O rings and such. I had a guy that could get or make most any part needed for the old Crosman/Benjamin air guns (Former employee), but can't find the web address or his card. I'l try to look again...

It's a leather cup seal for the pump. Looks like one of those seals they use in the pump on a Coleman lantern, but the bore diameter is 7/16. Front pump design. I can cut a piston and bore style mold on the lathe to form a leather cup seal if I have to. The tutorials I have watched soak the leather in hot wax and then press it into the mold. It's just actually getting around to doing it, and the umpteen other half finished projects I have laying around.

Thanks, and I'll take the number if you can find it. This is not the only Benjamin air gun I have laying around in need of repair.

Leather cups are not exactly precision made and are easy; you don't need a machine shop to make the press either. you can use tubing, and almost anything for the plug, a copper pipe cap, wood, anything...

Drill a hole so you can use a long screw with washers to pull the leather into the tube.

Hot wax is not necessary, and might be bad as that is how they make leather armor; the wax toughens the leather. Soak the leather in water, that is all you need. This is where copper or SS for the tube is nice. It won't rust.

Press it in and trim against the edge of the tube, set aside and let dry...

I think I'm keeping with the spirit of the thread. Wandered thru Murdoch's with the woman yesterday buying dog food. In one of the tool aisles they had a dewalt set-up. I'm a smartass so I asked if buying 1 got 3 free. No, but any red dot 18v was $5.00.
I have my first battery powered saw - dewalt dw939m 6 1/2".

That's exactly what I expect to happen. I was hoping to jump right to the one I wanted but it was sold the previous day in spite of the arrangements I made with the seller.

My first pick of the year, at an estate sale. Lugz, sorry to read that you were weathered out today - we had the same problem last week, but for a different wx problem.

My main focus in tool collecting is the WW2 GMTK; from that perspective, I was pretty well skunked today, except MAYBE for the Herbrand H-1 tappet wrench and another item. However, I picked up a bunch of users, including some good older tools, and a little Scout stuff which doesn't show in the overview pic. The lights both work.

DFA, that's a cool lamp! Much more stylish than mine, which is simple utilitarian one. At least someone else already replaced the cloth loom wiring with "modern" plastic-coated on mine!

I struggle with the lighting in my garage, and find myself hard-pressed to pass up a good garage light. This time of year, that halogen lamp I picked up today will be nice to take the edge off the chill.

And now we have an apt example of why this thread has a host.
Let's just hope I don't cause more disputes than I diffuse! :)

I think I'm keeping with the spirit of the thread. Wandered thru Murdoch's...
If Murdoch's is a brick-and-mortar retail store, technically not, Bill, regardless of the bargain. But I HATE the thread marm part of this job, and don't plan on being a ****tator about anything except behavior that insults someone else, so don't sweat it. If it becomes a persistent issue, there are several regglers 'round here who will probably say something long before me.

My first pick of the year, at an estate sale.
And an epic pick it was! Those BP DBE's and the Plomb set are good trade bait with KW era guys! I may have a need for the Corny ig wrenches. Let me call maybe dibs and check my set for which one I need before you do something else with those. Looking forward to hearing more about the gage.

...and my elephant art piece.
Very cool, dfa! I have a real soft spot for re-purposing. One of my favorite pieces from last year (or maybe it was 2016) was a tool jackmac found that would've made a perfect antique coat hook in a Victorian foyer.

Also, good to see you found the new thread! I was counting on seeing your finds this year.

My wife and I hit an estate sale in Martinez, CA this morning and she picked out a bunch of Craftsman =V= and metric tools while I looked for some other worthwhile items. I found a nice Starrett mic, a couple pairs of Klein pliers and a lone Plomb 3/8" drive extension. The Stanley square had the awl for a change.

Really nice find on the Plomb set. I'd love to come across one of those in the wild. And I used to have a desk lamp just like that when I was a little kid. I remember using it to melt crayons in the bed of a toy dump truck. :D
