Nice score on that tote! What is a butcher's chisel?
A chisel made by Butcher?

Imagine the damage that thing could do to a vintage chrome bumper!![]()

But it's a cool piece.

I think we have a winner!
Blue.... you know your a tool nut when....
Nice save!
Now, how to re-purpose the thing!
Lets see: You could clamp it onto an overhead I beam and:
- hang deer with it
- attach hoist for getting stuff to a loft or attic
Anyone else?
Speaking of re-purposing: Should we consider a related thread for doing that with the "finds"? or just post here as we sometimes have in the past?![]()
So it looks like these probably attached to your bumper?
I prefer the latter, but just one man's opinion. There is a re-purposing thread on GJ, btw. It's just not very active. 11 pages since 2013 with huge dormant periods. It's on the Fab board. Link here. I have been subscribed for awhile but never seem to work up the enthusiasm for posting.Speaking of re-purposing: Should we consider a related thread for doing that with the "finds"? or just post here as we sometimes have in the past?![]()

...
ALL: we can still put our ideas and thoughts here and then re post over on a thread that has just the RE PURPOSE?
...

CF, what is on the end of the hose? Schrader valve fitting? like a bike pump?
hi outlaw, good question. i had to snap a couple pic's.
Is that a cap that pops off?I can't help you with a ratchet or a breaker bar, but I have a few extra 1-inch drive sliding tees laying around! WWII vintage. J.H. Williams made. Just sayin'!![]()

Hmmmm,Is that a cap that pops off?
Thanks everyone for the drooling all over my box now, haha. 3bay, I love seeing the flying lady proto boxes.
thanks for the comment, blue. had to look up that word. lol.
checked out a mlk day sale. ad said her father was a electrician. not a lot in the way of tools. 1 of the things that caught my eye is this pump, can't figure out the initials, x.x. whitefield? any info would appreciated.

Can you get some more photos, closer in and from different angles, of all the writing around the bottom of the pump? I can see the big "Preservall" clearly, but the rest is very unclear.
hi hexen, sorry, i tried to get a clearer pic of the lettering. they're kind of worn away. the top line is 2 initials and "whitefield inc. while looking at it again i was able to make out "hartford, ct. i'm going to try again (google) and see what this is. it is leaking some stinky oil out.

Yeah, that's better.I think the initials before Whitefield might be P. C., but regardless of the initials, I'm still not turning up anything pertinent on Google. I agree that the city is Hartford, CT.
The search results for "Preservall" are unfortunately dominated by a modern gun storage bag company... they say their product "Provides humidity and temperature independent, volatile and oil free ESD protection combined with long-term corrosion protection and mold / mildew protection"... so definitely not related to a pump full of oil.
With so much information online today, it's always surprising to find something that seems to have been completely 'vanished into the mists'.
i agree. i'm new at computers (3yrs), it's uncommon to NOT be able to find something if you ask the right question. i ran a bunch of letter combo's and whitefield and got nothing was hoping something would show after i made out the city. maybe somebody recognizes it?
A.C. Whitefield was chartered in New Windsor, CT, in 1923, to make a device to "preserve" fruit and vegetables. Ran 'salesmen wanted' ads looking for agents to sell the device in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina papers in 1924. It's not called the PRESERVALL, there is no description or photo, and I'm not saying it's the device. Seems like a strong possibility though.1 of the things that caught my eye is this pump, can't figure out the initials, x.x. whitefield? any info would appreciated.
