^^^ And he pulls out out of the tray and they are Harbor Freight...

Kidding! That's an awesome find, you **** for sure!

Walked to an estate sale today a couple streets over... The few bits in the garage were overpriced and nothing I needed (at that price anyways)... Found a spray bottle of upholstery cleaned for a quarter... that's it... :(

I just recently picked up a set of the swivel sae snap on sockets in the original metal case at a moving sale for $10. Needless to say a couple other guys were giving me dirty looks when they heard the price. He had other tools but mostly cheapo brands and people were like vultures all over it all. I was quite happy with my find. All are nice and tight except the 9/16 and it's not bad.

I needed to get out of the house, so I took my nephew with me to a sale that I knew didn't have anything I was interested in. I was right. It took longer to get there than I expected. The sale started at 9, we left at 2 and got there around 3. More local roads than I planned on. The basement shop was nearly picked clean. The leftovers proved that I didn't miss anything. Imported junk or more modern box store tools. Even the bench vise was from China.

The 4yo was well behaved and looked, but didn't touch anything. That might have been because I promised him French Fries on the way home if he was good. Tried the new Taco Bell fries. Meh. The boy said he didn't like them, but still ate half. Then he made me stop at McDonald's to get the "good" fries.

Got home just in time to hand him off to his mother.
Not a lucky day, but a good day nonetheless.

OK, I'm ready to unload now, Officially off the time clock... I did WFH today and was able to slip out for a very short "clean out free tools and stuff "sale" (Only one thing was left for actual sale and it was sold...)

I was gone an hour!

I did so well I slipped her a twenty telling her "this is just a token" She tried to give it back... I made her... :pimpflash

This is the rig loaded. Anything else I was thinking about was too big and no time for a second trip..

Detailed pics later after its unloaded!

Ok. One from my Father, " better have a helluva pain level if you plan on stayin stupid."
Been sore a long time, unfortunately.
Snerk. That's a good one. Dear old dads. This one was directed at my brother and me: "I could rub both your brains together and it still wouldn't make a noise." One of my favorites: "You'd forget your head if it was bolted on."

The short DBE wrenches are a pair marked Willard
Never heard of them.

Hmm. All eyes on that cabinet!

Some tool boxes I picked up this week.
I'm not into 70's but those are kinda cool looking.

Some tool boxes I picked up this week.

All-American was a label used by Waterloo in the early 70's as a product line sold in Auto and Hardware stores. It only lasted a few years. If you find the dates stamped on each piece, it will likely be 72, 73, or 74.

Top Box - the date code will be found in the top section, left side, near the front.
Bottom Box - the date code will be found on the front, bottom rail, right side, about 6"-7" from the right corner.

The stamp may be light, and require a magnifying glass and a flashlight held at an angle.
The numbers will appear as :
MM-YY
MADE IN USA

Good find.

EDIT - I see you found one of the dates

I found the same top box a few years ago (one of my first finds after I joined the site).
This is the first time I've seen the decal with the model number. Thanks !
Info on these boxes are scarce and pictures on the Internet even harder to find.
Now I can make a new decal. :bounce:

I had that same All American set for quite a while. I outgrew it and sold it to a guy across the street. He later got rid of it (but this guy is always getting rid of things and purging...). I saw it (I'm sure it was mine) at a HS flea a couple years ago.

I noticed a Gedore wrench in that bunch. I found one in a toolbox of tools I bought recently. Never heard of it. I assumed it was Asian and put it in the asian pile. Was that a mistake?

Update: Okay. A quick search of the site tells me that's from India. And it may have been the one wrench in that toolbox I noticed was marked India.

OK Starting to process the pics:

Since Lugz is waiting with baited breath, the cart first! :D

attachment.php

Sides were added, the basic cart appears to be military though. inside was definitely olive drab...

The pile after unloading:

attachment.php

These bins were cool! They are slightly tapered. a lot side by side would curve around the work... Even the lady liked them, but she wanted everything gone! (I barely scratched the surface. There was LOTS left, but I DID cherry pick...)

It turns out I had been to this place last summer. its where I got the fractional drill drawer set. I spent quite a bit that stop. $80 IIR!

attachment.php

attachment.php

A couple of coffee urns I have a re-purpose project in mind for:

attachment.php

Stencils of two sizes: The large are the right size for curb numbers...

attachment.php

A Sterns saw vise, with a patent date I THINK are in the 1870's? (more later its partly obscured by tape and rust)

attachment.php

Lots more to come!!

I had a pretty good day today. Spent a Benajmin and a Jackson on a pile of stuff:

Atlas table saw
Wilton 1750 tradesman vise
Cincinnati Fan No 9 centrifugal blower and motor
Two post vises, one should clean up well, not sure about the other
Mac chainsaw with Nielson Carb-Cutter attachment
2 Harbor freight magnetic machine lights
5 Craftsman 12" utility cases
24" Rigid pipe wrench
New rasp
Williams adjustable spanner
Dutton-Lainson pulling winch ("NOT FOR MOVEMENT OF HUMAN BEINGS"!)
Snap On pry bar
Drag link sockets
Machinery's hand book
Old glass syringes
Hammer marked "Made in Sheffield England", unsure of brand
Basa No 4 hammer

The guy at the second stop where I got the Atlas table saw has a lot of older, <large> machinery in various states...going to try to help some of that find new homes, if anybody is in the McComb, MS area and may be interested.

Wow, Merc--helluva haul for a buck twenty!

Outlaw: You **** for that much tonnage for a $20 donation.

Finally have a sale today that's "on the way" for me. It doesn't look promising for garage stuff, but one never knows....

D42 Great Proto/Plvmb finds!

LawnBoy, great score!

CF, those Hardy cutters are hard to find! I think I've only had one surface with a vise.

RAG: we all wonder where the hell Outlaw puts all his stuff cause he doesn't have 5 storage units like I do or a 60x120 garage/shop (or maybe he does). i bet his wife is a full time Ebay (or as he says EPrey) sales with their own curbside shipping station.

seriously you asked about the Craftsman heritage badge for you cool little vise and you can find them on Ebay i think, but make sure to measure your space and you might find a match on an old table saw or other old tool that's in great shape to borrow one from. If somebody is making them i'm not sure who and if you find out please PM me cause it's one of my favorite Craftsman badges besides the Long C.

Outlaw: we all thought that your $20 anvil was great find and as sad at it might have been for the widow to give all her husband's tools away so she could move they all found a very good home.

do you have a WAREHOUSE?? :D

JAKE: yep i can taste those McD's french fries now and even a 4 year old knows how good that they taste. too bad they are barely any nutrition.

sounds like you have a student that likes garage saleing with Gramps. WELL DONE!!

ALL: i'm ORGANIZING and trying to empty a few storage units, but always enjoy seeing what you've all found and brought home.

i wasn't really looking for stools, but i found 3 almost new Uline grey stools with the malamine seat to put in my garage so if friends or grandkids stop by they have something to sit on. I found them on Craigslist looking for more metal cabinets cause can you really have too many.

cheers and hope you all have a great weekend.

D42 Great Proto/Plvmb finds!

LawnBoy, great score!

CF, those Hardy cutters are hard to find! I think I've only had one surface with a vise.

yeah i know. seems like something easily misplaced. don't tell anyone, but this was still sitting on it's vise (older home owner style) but i wasn't going to try and take it off the bench, didn't need the vise. as i explained in the OP, the people running the sale just wanted stuff gone. i wish the vise that the pipe jaws came off of was still around. and, nice score on your last haul.

I'm old enough to be a gramps.
I'm ornery enough to be a gramps.
I'm grey enough to be a gramps.
I'm gassy enough to be a gramps.
But without any kids of my own, I'll never be a gramps.

My extended family has a habit of blurring generational lines, so I've had more than my fair share of kids to look after. I don't need any of my own. I'm the first of my generation, the latest of my generation was born last year, 52yrs later. My grandmother (#2 of 12) was 24 when her youngest brother was born. Can you imagine - my great-grandmother was changing cloth diapers on multiple children for almost 26 years ! :wtf: Half of my mother's first cousins are my age or younger than me. We don't bother to differentiate, it isn't worth the effort.
