That can is slammin’!
-no segue-
I’ve got these linemans pliers; I used to think they were stamped “GERMANY” but I’m not so sure. Anyone see something more inteligible than “TCMANP”?

Drives: IMPERIAL BRASS is the name of a Mfgr. They did make early brass fixtures and stuff, giving them their name, but moved onto tools, most famously swaging and flaring kits for the refrigeration, pump, and auto industries. Edit: Later merged with Eastman. Search ratchet thread. We've talked about these before. OEM may be Walden. Or maybe Bonney. Don or Unaiu may know more.

Thanks for your quick reply. any idea what my little brass tool was used for or how? does it need the little socket holder or maybe the piece that fits in the slot actually is the socket or tool?

I don't think I can add any more, but after some discussion in the 'ratchet collection thread', I think we landed on Walden as the OEM. Mine is marked Imperial Eastman.

attachment.php

thanks for the information and link!!!!

I agree, they look like walden. The shape, the protruding gear.

thanks!!

That was it! Thanks for pitching in, Unaiu!

Yup.

Thanks!

I think Walden made them for a lot of suppliers. Here is a brand I don't recognize next to it's Walden counterpart and a NOS Walden I found on eBay recently.
-Don

of course you'd have one or two or three and thanks for showing me. are they brass (my thinking) or BECU like Outlaw or others mentioned? also is there a piece i'm missing or do tell how i'd use this?

TEX: I'd probably buy another good solid wheelbarrow for less than $50 if one showed up even though I probably own 6 of them. since i mix 80 pound bags of concrete in mine they do tend to wear out pretty quickly.

I think your picking skills went from about 10mph to 100mph this year so hopefully you have the room and won't have to rent storage units like I have.

keep it up cause always fun seeing what you came home with.

Jeff: yep your GARAGE SALE THREAD IDEA was a winner and I think your first year was the year I joined in 2013 or was it the year before?

WELL DONE!!

3Bay: nothing like a bag full of tools to end 2018 on a positive note. I really like the old USA made tools made before I was born (1950's), but Euro tools are right up there in quality.

It's a refrigerator set ratchet. Used to turn special sockets designed for valve stems and packing nuts and the like. Some of them had male drive tangs and plugged in directly, some had female openings and would require a drive plug. The square and hex openings in the end of the handle were used to. I am positive that Beemer and others would be able to add much more.

I'd be very surprised if it was brass.

The other day I had a half hour to kill waiting for a lunch date, so I walked across the street to Goodwill (which never has any good tools), to pass the time. I found this 1-1/8" Proto DOE angle wrench, which was covered with hardened grease and a few spots of Bondo. I rubbed the markings enough to make out the Proto, so I bought it. It wasn't until I got it home and cleaned it up in the solvent tank that I could read the "Los Angeles" marking!

Industrial black finish.

I buy every good c clamp I see. We use them all the time to build the hot roods. Have several 10 and 12-inch models, but these ones just huge. Can't wait to find something I need it for!

Wow, I guess everything is bigger in TX! Way cool.

Indeed it is! thanks : )

Just because it is Christmas, I thought I would return to the favorite topic of this year's Garage Sale Thread!

:lol_hitti

I assume that it is an ICC-rated container made by Wheeling from 20 gauge material. It holds 51/4 gallons of gasoline, and was made in 1942. It was intended to hold gasoline, and was property of the Quartermaster Corps of the US Army.

Nailed it!

Last chance to vote for the "2018 Picker of the Year"!

Missed voting - probably just as well... slogging through just Lugz's synopsis had my head swimming. Sooooo many incredible finds!

To quote AD/DC's Angus Young, "Keep it up, lads!"

We're all getting old, Drives! :) It doesn't merely say BRASS, it says IMPERIAL BRASS, which is the name of a company, as I explained in this post...

EDIT: If it's made of brass, it would be an unusual non-sparking coincidence. Most of them are steel.

Though I don't think I participated this year, this has been one of my favorite threads on any board. The enthusiasm and knowledge you fellas show is wonderful. And it's great to see these old tools go to good homes.

Congrats to Private Lugnutz on a great job and to all those nominated for top picker!

SO probe of sorts, it’ll come in handy pulling seals and o rings.
Do you all know what the Mac tool is for?
No googling

Congratulations to tinmedic--the strong finish helped, but he was leading the whole time. Deservedly so, too!

Thanks for the votes for me as well: I value this thread highly and am glad to be a regular participant...even if doing so is slowly filling up my second garage as full as the first!

I thought this might have been a well done owner's mark, but nope...

You may already know this, but those are for anti-tamper fasteners. I have come across some on Ryobi battery chargers that Ryobi doesn't want you to be able to repair...

Nice finds! I'm eyeballing a dusty big barn estate sale on Saturday as my possible last hurrah for these year.

CB: the prior owner of my Honda Pilot put some ANTI-TAMPER screws on the license plates and since we change our plates now every two years I need to remember where I put that bit. that said maybe you can buy screws that you can put on some things you'd like to make a little harder for the IDIOTS to steal so good to have the bits.

BIG AZZ pliers. :bounce:

Tin: congrats on your wind and I think you might have stuffed the ballot box a bit with that late in the year post of all those cool old PROTO TOOL BOARDS, but you did have a good year before that too.

LUG: again you made the thread fun and looking for another host to carry on the fun in 2019 with all of our help. yep i'll wipe that BRASS TOOL of mine off and find gold under the crud.

Tin Medic,
Congrats on POY 2018!!! You deserved it!

Outlaw,
You bring it literally every weekend! If not for Tin Medic's late haul of Proto tool boards I think you had it. Congrats to you too!

Congrats also to all of us who enjoyed the 2018 GS thread which has been so admirably hosted by Lugz!

Thanks again Lugz! You're leaving mighty big shoes to fill.

Nonsense! I have utmost faith in the capabilities and creativity of the likely hosts! And the possibilities are endless.

For example, I've always thought a massive Scavenger Hunt would be fun, and I almost did that this year instead of awards, but I don't trust you sumbucks farther than I can throw Outlaw's Peter Wright anvil! You guys would've been grabbing the stuff on my list you already have in your garages and claiming to have just found it!
:lol_hitti

Also, this thread was always good and it will always be good no matter who is host or what the host does or doesn't do. The finds and the people make it so.

The Poll for the 2019 Garage Sale Thread Host is now up and running! Click here to see the list of candidates and VOTE NOW!

All voting is anonymous

Hate to keep hitting you guys with polls, but this one is critical, and we have to get it done by December 23rd, to give the new host enough time after the Holidays to prepare the 2019 thread!

The turnout for the POY vote was incredible - 62 voters! We need that kind of representation for the 2019 Host Poll, so go vote now!

Well done TM. I had no idea that those Hazet kits even existed. Thanks to that find and the scores of others has opened my eyes quite a bit.
