Today I answered a Craigslist ad for a Graco air-powered barrel pump. He was asking $20.00, and as we looked at it I noticed a Pebble Plomb 5449 1/2" Ratchet nearby and got him to throw it in on the deal! The broken selector handle was a bargaining point. It works like new.

Congrats to Tin Medic!
It was a great year on this thread for all involved. Always one of my favorite places to check in daily and see the next haul. I always learn a lot from this thread as well so thanks for all the Q & A that goes one about various tools that are found. It makes the thread enjoyable and educational.

Thought i'd make a year end post about a GSA purchase i came up with first December. Its a 1952 Caterpillar genset that was finished/fitted out by a Caterpillar dealer in Toronto Canada. I'm almost sure it served in the Canadian military, then some how ended up in the U.S. Forest Service, them the Ohio DNR Forest Division. Looking for vintage Canadian military information help about it.

What are your plans on the truck sir ? That is in great original shape ! I am hoping you will just attend to it mechanically and give it a good wash and wax ? I am digging the patina/ aged look!

That's a big find. You know it's over built when it is trailer size and only rated at 18Kw.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

Just picked up this Mac Tools three box combo off CL for $200.

It's filthy as hell, but solid. Friction slides, but they all work well despite having no grease left on them. No rust except for a small spot on the front of one drawer. Bottom box is a MB520 H1. Can't make out anything other than Mac Tools USA on the other two boxes. Anyone have a guess as to the date?
1f00ac666950aa48ca4de2a0f365f3fc.jpg

It was also full of a bit of everything. I haven't really gone through it yet, but I'd say 30% trash, 30% junk tools, 30% USA/Craftsman, 10% supplies, fittings, etc.

USA wrenches (so far)

Not sure if I want to flip it or restore and keep it. I love the look of it.

Wrench: nice find!! don't you already have 2 or 3 of these? sorry I can't help you with the ID, but I love that you own it cause I know it will look better soon.

Boofer: great looking boxes. i'd say mid 80's, but that's only a guess. I love boxes crammed with stuff like that cause there is always something cool in them and you can toss the tools in a bucket and sell them for a few bucks to somebody that doesn't have any or donate them if you so choose.

Well Drives, you're right about always something cool in them. Right after I posted the initial pics, I keep digging and find $51 bucks, lol. Now I'm only into this for $149.

I had a pretty good 'small haul' from my Double Early Bird this morning, which is good because we have a windy rainy Nor'easter coming that will wipe out tomorrow and probably Saturday.

attachment.php

TOP to BOTTOM:

- The rusty extra long DOE engineers' wrench with the classic and indistinguishable Cornwell-Mac-Wright hex throats is a Cornwell.

- The thing with the red rubber handle is a small vintage percussive drill from the Phillips Drill Company, Michigan City, Indiana. The patent on the handle (design patent D182,699) was granted Apr. 28, 1958, and the patent on the chuck (2,918,290) was granted Dec. 22, 1959, both Werstein, of Long Beach (who knew?), Indiana. I have absolutely NO IDEA now it works or if it's all there. I am hoping Ed (Oregon rock crusher, who we seem to have lost back in September or so...) will check in if I prompt him. To quote bmwrd01, and reflect the sentiments of many, "I have no idea why I bought it!" :)

- The rusty Speednut type wrench is an 8" SPEEDNUT CORP. I nearly pulled a rookie mistake and sprinted over to it when I saw it. I was actually hoping it was going to be the Chicago Mfg and Distributing version, so I could add it to my Chicago Mfg and Distributing collection, which can be seen in a GJ thread here, but I am not at all disappointed. I will have more photos and A LOT more to say about this wrench, its many variations and mfgrs, its patents, etc, and its connection to our founder and administrator on his old blog post, which I plan to revive.

- The first of the two 6" tempered steel No. 4 rules may steal my heart for this particular haul. SANDOW TOOL CO, which I had never heard of. The etched branding and inch markings are incredibly gorgeous! More photos to come.

- The second of the rules, Made in England, I bought because its mfgr came up recently on the Vintage Board: Rabone Chesterman. I'll revive and tack some photos onto that end of that thread.

- Esoterically, the electrician's knife is the gem of the bunch. It is a PAL BLADE CO. "U.S. ARMY" 41-K-370 knife, made explicitly for WWII Ordnance Dept GMTK's. One of two makers, the other being Union Cutlery (Ka-Bar). These are highly desired by WWII GMTK collectors and much more rare than the commonplace Signal Corps TL-29's that most guys have in their boxes as stand-ins. They show up on eBay, which is where most guys get them. This is only the third I have ever found in the wild. It doesn't look like much, one of the scales is chipped, and the marking is very faint (with only the periods in "U.S." and the "MY" at the end of "ARMY" visible on the scale, but it will fill my gas tank! :pimpflash

- Keeping the reefer rat theme going, a Hinsdale open head model, 9/32-inch drive. One of these was in the combination 9/32- and 3/8-inch drive reefer set Beemer found back in early November, linked here.

I'm starting to think guys in the south and west have an advantage when it comes to garage sales. This time of year, garage sales come to a halt in Ohio. If I want to win next years pickers awards, I'm going to have to work extra hard and be extra lucky. You all ****!

Here's that antique rule. I still haven't looked up the mfgr. But again, the etching is exquisite. It's as artistic as fine calligraphy.
