That's the way it is at some HD's, evidently they have different SCO software.

No, the SCO software is the same at all stores. There will be different versions as a new release is going out, but they typically deploy to all stores in about 6 weeks.

If HD decides to block the sale of penny items, they won’t just do it at some SCOs or even just SCO. They will do it across the board. Note - this paragraph is solely my opinion.

Back on topic - a bunch of 8’ fluorescent fixtures being clearance at my local store. With everyone switching to led, these must not be selling anymore.

Not true at all. I routinely hit 6 hd stores In my area, and 2 of them *always* flag penny items while the other 4 do not. Must be different in your area.

One store I went to flagged a penny once then next time it went through just fine. Same exact SCO station both times. :headscrat

Maybe it's item dependent?

I was a bit surprised to find this. Other than self checkout there's no way to check at my store. Just found this in the clearance section so tookit up front hoping it was a good deal

I've given up on all local HD stores. Haven't seen ANYTHING ever on sale for more than 20% off.
I even went so far as to inquire about "penny items" listed in the pca. The associate was very adamant that no one under any circumstances would ever be able to buy anything for $.01 due to the computers not allowing it, if you could even find it since they immediately remove all items that drop to a penny from the floor.

They are supposed to remove the penny items. That much is true. And some stores are better than others at removing the penny items.

Well, she made it sound like they are removed before anyone could ever catch it and if someone was to somehow have something ring up $.01 the cashier would disallow the sale and contact a manager or if at a self-checkout the computer would lock out and call for an associate. I guess YMMV depending on the store since it seems to work for some people.

$.01 is an incredible albeit rare deal. What is more disappointing was my earlier comment about nothing EVER being more than 20% off. Just recently they had an ugly pile of faucets and shower heads with mangled boxes laying on a table with a clearance sign on them. Most of the stickers were only $2-$3 off on $20-$30 items. That doesn't sound like "clearance" to me>

You need to put in some work! Most of my deals were found in the rafters, or on the shelf with an old clearance price. Again, you need to do the legwork, if items were sitting on a clearance rack marked at the correct 75% off price, chances are they would not be there.

Exactly. I have no idea why you would ask an employee "where da $0.01 at?" or "where da 75% off clearance at?" If they knew, they would buy them.

Actual "deals" wouldn't be available if stores correctly marked and displayed clearance items or if the prices and stock level showed on the website. I'm grateful for lazy employees that don't do their job and leave stuff to go on deep clearance. In my experience, Lowes is even worse in this respect (or better, for me). I constantly find stuff for as much as 90% off.

I didn't ask where they were AT? I simply asked if it is true that items at that store ever get marked down to $.01.

If it's lazy employees that create the deals they must not have any around here

I guarantee I could walk through your local store and find at least one penny item. And I could spend 10 minutes on the PCA and find lots of stuff marked down 75%. Home Depot puts all their top stock in the strangest places. I found 5 freezers marked down to 50 bucks, they were above the light bulbs, last isle I looked in. It took me about 20 minutes of searching.
1. I found them on the PCA
2. I searched for them around the freezers and where I saw top-stock.
3. I asked an employee about them, I don't usually do that, but I was about to give up, but I knew that inventory is usually not that far off, and freezers are too big to walk easily.
4. Employee laughs and says that they have been searching for the freezers.
5. Found them, bought 4 and left one for an employee.

They made great gifts, lol. And my mom bought something to convert one into a refrigerator.

Sorry, long post, but the deals are there for those who are willing to put in the work to find them.

I have employees save penny items for me. It usually is not anything big. I have got as much thru regular checkout as sc. Happy Hunting

Ran across another 25# of 3" deck screws, old style.
Went to SCO and they wouldn't ring up this time, even the casher tried and they were not in the system.
Maybe the penny screws are finally done if the old SKUs are totally removed now?
This bucket was dirty and kinda beat up but was out in the open at the end of the row, maybe was a return???

Yeah when I checked out with a couple 25# many many months ago, one was already out of the system. They just let me have them without even trying to ring them up as something else or anything.

FYI - items are not removed from the register for at least a year to allow for returns. This does not apply to the PCA which often drops items when they penny.

I just had the same thing happen with some 5 pound boxes of screws. I tried at the PCA and it locked the screen, so I took them to the register and it wouldn't scan there either.

While I agree with what you said, I think someone messed up in the system with those screws, I went to the normal checkout and one wouldn't ring up (maybe a week after they went penny), but the other different length did.

All it takes is one person at a keyboard to hit the wrong button and ******... lol... Maybe they were updating prices before they had their coffee... :lol_hitti

Yes, exceptions happen. I should have said that the SKU are not SUPPOSED to be removed for a year.

Is that specific to depot, or just a general barcode scanner?

I believe it is the computer system they have at Home Depots accessible through the computers at the pro desk. I have not used it before, so please correct me if I am incorrect.

Wallet hacker has a decent article about finding deals at HD. I can't post the link because I have too few posts, but it was the first result when I googled "home depot penny items"

It is a specific application on their computer systems. For customer use, it is on the kiosks that are scattered about the store & up at the Pro desk (employees also have it built into their scanners). If you go to one of these computers, it is on the top row of applications. Most HD employees aren't even aware of it.

Some stores don’t have any computer facing out, and some store employees don’t allow people to use these computers to check price.
