Its easy and absolutely allowed. In fact, this is what Home Depot encourages to their customers on the receipts. Its a prorated discount, and the discount at the end is absolutely worth it.

They don't exactly encourage it, it is one less sold item after all, but if they didn't pro-rate it, and left one item at $0.00, some states/laws/computers would allow you to return the other item you paid full price for.

They should just be more transparent and charge the actual price from the get-go, further proof that’s it just too expensive to begin with

Real price of just the M18 12.0Ah battery is probably $140 (probably even less) instead of the $199 that the big box stores want

Thinking that consumers will not notice

Or it's a loss leader. Like Costco, they lose a bit of money on their rotisserie chickens, but they don't care, you walk in only for that and leave spending over $100, when you only came in for the $4.99 chix!

You see a tool, they tell you that you get a "free" battery, and that tool just flew off the shelf! Consumers are dumb

Well, that's what they think. Sometimes we just have to control our impulses :lol_hitti

Its too bad Panasonic doesn't really get a good chunk of the sale. All goes up to TTI

Picked up a fuel impact kit with 2 batteries for $75. Not the best deal ever, but I was contemplating something smaller than my m18 stuff for working on the dirtbikes, this made up my mind.460be74efebfb9e790df25c4f33cdfcb.jpg9d9eaa6bbabcb23cfde644e2ada30327.jpg

You should have been able to get an additional M12 battery free with that purchase. I believe its one of the many eligible items which comes with additional free battery or bare tool

People are going to park, walk into a big box store all the way to the back, stand in line, basically taking 15-20 mins to get a $5 chicken? I don't think too many folks are going just for the chicken. Especially given Costco's target customer/their income etc. It's just a perk of shopping there, not so much a lure.

I'll go to Sam's just for a $5 chicken. Scan n Go ftw! :D

Yoshi is right though. There a reason that deal is ALL the way in the back of the store.

That it's not???:lol_hitti. Hint, the main loss leader is not even in the retail area, doesn't require a membership card to get etc. And that data was pretty easy to look up. And it is a significant difference, like more than $100 million per year.

Back to the deals.

Did HD have a sale on the Ryobi Li battery two packs? A few weeks ago, my local store had what appears to be their BF/Holiday merchandise out and I noticed they had stacks of the 2 packs, plus hundreds on the racks/in the system, at $99. I made a note, got excited in hopes of snagging some in Jan/Feb at $50 to $25 like a few years back. Yesterday they are at 0. Surprised they would be such a fast seller at $99.

On the words of Tom white, why not source your data? I haven't found what you are talking about in all my searching? Obviously you know what's up.

I have a feeling he is talking about alcohol. The only other thing you don't need a membership for is RX's (prescriptions), and they sure as hell make money on those. But with how much space alcohol takes up, I doubt it is a loss for them.

Finally made a stop into a couple HD's yesterday, and the clearance selections were pretty meager. Doubt it will get better before the holidays

I saw the 2 packs when I was at my local store over the weekend. They had a whole display of them.
They have a couple promo deals on right now, so people might be snatching them up for the holiday deals.

I will go to a Costco for just a hot dog and drink. At $1.50 it may not even be a loss leader, but that price has remained constant for many, many years. ( Yes, it's much easier and quick to pick up a hot dog instead of the chicken in the back )

lol My folks will stop by SAMS just to get a hot dog and drink.

To get back on Home Depot, the one in the next town over will keep a cooler with bottles of water for costumers on really hot days.

So FWIW, I've been to three local HD's, and they are all clearing out air hoses. Neon yellow/green ones. Have both medium and heavy duty. I picked up a couple of medium duty 50' ones for $20 each.

Which town has a Home depot with people in costumes all year long?

The real deal is the free coffee in the contractor area, and the occasional party home depot throws for contractors with free food, like memorial day bbq type deals.

As for penny items, picked up two recently. Closetmate corner wire shelf, and a closetmate rail system straight shelf. The corner one comes with support arms so it can be used stand alone.

Maybe we should start a hot dog poll :wtf:

All of the HDX plumbing wrenches are marked down 75%.

This one is 2.72. The six step faucet seat wrench is 1.92.

Nice, thank you.

I've heard great things about how quiet the California ones are, would the 1 gallon one listed be powerful enough for my nail guns?

One gallon in general, that one included, can shoot nail guns. Your expectations have to be realistic though.
2 framing nails
5 finish nails
9 brad nails
15 pin nails

Is what I would estimate a one gallon can do before refilling. As long as it has some refill time or you are nailing slowly it will be fine. When it is this quiet refilling often isn’t that noticeable.

All of the specialty HDX on clearance were plumbing specific tools. This one is for removing the strainer basket. I purchased a tool for bending copper without kinking it, I don't have the sku on me at the moment. All of that stuff should be close to a penny, if it's not already.

1003000787 down to $898.00 may get lower as time goes by. YMMV They have so much stuff down nail gun aisle you can hardly get down it. Like a one way street.

Penny rug. All Halloween stuff is also a penny. Look outside for forgotten merch.

Got my first in store penny deal the other day!

It was some sort of deck ballasters in the clearance section without pricing. I figured I could use the flat metal for reinforcement on my hitch hauler (under the expanded metal) and wanted a price check. Once it rang up it was like the world ended, 2 manager later they decided I could have it for that price just this time, Like I did something wrong.

The unfortunate part was it wasn't really anything special, I don't even know the retail price. LOL but hey, a deal is a deal for a penny
