One for Jeff:

Hung the Key display rack:

The one with the cord is the one I dug up in the constructions site.Cord I put on there decades ago, It was made from my old leather boot laces.

Haha, I hear you Flyer. It didn’t end with those stops. We drove by the initial antique shop I wanted to go to, which was supposed to close at noon. There was a vehicle so we went in.

We walk in, and as it turns out, the owner’s husband was just opening up late in the afternoon. The place was just what I was hoping for. Rusty, dusty, musty and dark, and lots of old stuff. The amount of old tools far surpassed my expectations, as most shops I’ve been to barely have any.

The AC wasn’t running yet and I was sweating like a pig instantly. Needless to say, my girl went out to the car after a few minutes and left me to dig around.

The guy was real friendly, and I would up finding a bunch of things which he gave me a good price on.

Eventually made it to the third shop, a nice tidy and organized place more like an antique mall, but didn’t buy anything there.

Today’s antique shop finds:

-Y.C.C. brand Japan adjustable wrench/ knife multi tool. Been wanting to find one of these not made in China.
-neat Britool speeder, 3/4 lug wrench on one side and a large screwdriver or pry end on the other side, two spinning handles.
-3 Snap On pieces. A old 1/4 square reefer ratchet, a 1/2” drive adapter for alignment wrench kit, and old Vacuum Grip cutter.
- small unmarked 5/8x 11/16 Barcalo looking dbe similar to one in my box.
- 3 wood chisels, a Barton gouge, Stanley, and unknown.

Here's the haul, and it's been a good weekend for garage sales around here. From the top down, yellow retail display rack, Weatherhead retail parts cabinet only 3 drawers left.

Note the boat dock ball, the pitbull bit a hole in it in less than 5 minutes.

On the table is an orange wheel chuck from someone's Nissan. A lead melting cauldron, or maybe an ashtray. The Dart tin says "handy for odd jobs" family nail box. That might be my next slogan, Handy for Odd Jobs. Next is the nut meat chopper. Put your nuts in there and crank the handle. Picked up a custom to go with my special, and the wholly cast iron spoon.

We stopped on the way home at an estate sale just as the people decided everything's free. The wife loaded up on every trinket and garden statue she could find. Life's good.

DFA, those folding wheel chocks come off of Nissans? I think I have three of them - I should put them in my Eagle trailer... are they for when you change a tire on the road?

EDIT - Just looked at a couple closer - "Made in Japan" so that ties in...

Also this mixed box.

Old S-K, with some Plomb sockets, Cornwell, Blackhawk, Bonney. Several hex drive, some cheap Marx ? 1/4 sockets, a stamped steel. A few 9/32 drive Snap On and a Williams. 1/4 drive NB and DI.

Gray and Prior universal joint for a machine or something.

The interesting thing in there that caught my eye was the early 7/16” hex drive ratchet. I believe I’ve seen it before but can’t remember the maker. Kind of a neat piece, it reverses direction by turning the knob far the other way. Also the extension and L handle. Not sure which of the old hex sockets go with it.

Update: the hex ratchet and parts are likely from the Bay State socket wrench set by Allen Manufacturing. It looks like the sets posted by Twertsy and Lugz.
It is! Nice find. But I need that ratchet adaptor!! There was one included in my set, but it's missing the camphered "dog" or pin that acts as a pawl against the gear. As you know, since you figured out how to pull it all the way and turn it (which turns the end of the pin with the campher to reverse direction), it's that piece with the knurled knob sitting under the screwed-on strap spring. My ratchet adaptor just free spins without it. PLEASE let me know if you're not wedded to it! These were very early, by the way. Twertsy's Bay State set has a ratchet adaptor with the patent date on it in which this entire funky external mechanism is in-line. They internalized it between the time the patent was applied for and granted. EDIT: Link to thread with much more info here.

Interesting: I just re-checked and I had picked up a shorty speeder with a hex drive but it's 3/8 - so that is three sizes of hex drive I know have been in use: 3/8, 7/16, and 1/2"...

No markings other than "Made in USA"

Picked up this rather crude thread file at the flea today. It's a fairly boring and innocuous tool to most, but interesting to me, especially because I had never seen one like it. I am used to seeing (and I own several examples of...) the square Reiff & Nestor design with a handle in the middle and four sides of eight different thread sizes, patented in 1928. They made them for themselves as well as Blue-Point, branded as NU-TRIX. As you can see, this one is flat with two thread sizes - 10 and 14. It has no manufacturer's name, but the brand name (NU-THRED) makes me think it was an earlier Reiff & Nestor product, i.e., you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I'll have to do some research now to see if my hunch is correct.

Lugz - dang, I see what you mean. I’d kind of like to hang onto it, having the ratchet and extensions. The shop has some more hex drives as well as some Mossberg that I want to go back and look through with more time.

Outlaw- I noticed your speeder. Cool. Though I can’t give a positive I.D on it, Indestro indeed made some 3/8 hex drive. I will keep an eye out for what it may be.
They and others also had 1/4 hex drive. There’s 5/16 hex drive like Williams/Husky, and can’t leave out their larger drive stuff in hex 1”. I even saw some Proto special made 1” hex drive.

Lugz, somewhere I have a Nu-Thre(a?)d no1 (tpi 11,12,13,14,16,18,20,24) which is the typical design. Here’s a pic, but it doesn’t show the brand. I’ll see if I can lay hands on it and update this post.

No prob, 3bay. Good luck finding the rest of the set. My plan was to fab the pin. I may ask you to send me the ratchet adapter just so I can get accurate dimensions.

Thanks, LS. That raises my confidence level appreciably, since Reiff & Nestor owns the patent. I'll be curious to see if I'm right.

Nu-thread I believe is a name used by Jawco. They are Reading, PA based. I do not know if there is a connection with R&N. I have modern production Jawco thread files and they are excellent.

Here is one of my 4 sided thread files - It happened to be "in staging" to go into one of my 4WD rigs. Ever since one of these asked my buddy's *** up n a hill, I make sure its in the road box for each... I have 3 or four or so, but I still don't have ANY that are metric...

Picked up an old SK tool box to straighten, strip and restore.
It was holding some files, and Disston file handles.
Cost was $1

Nu-thread I believe is a name used by Jawco. They are Reading, PA based. I do not know if there is a connection with R&N.
The tool I found is marked NU-THRED, Dave. No "A". Reiff & Nestor is in Lykens, PA, which is not far from Reading, and they are still in business. So that's interesting. But this tool seems vintage to me.

Outlaw - that is the Reiff & Nestor NU-TRIX. I also have a few, including a NOS example in a NOS box and packaging branded Blue-Point. I have posted them, company history, and the patent before. Along with WWII manual figures (they were issued to several kits). I posted the NOS Blue-Point model I found here and also on the Snap-on thread a few weeks ago. I would post links but I'm on my phone in an airport. Searching this thread and Snap-on thread will turn it up.

The open question is who made the 2 sided (10, 14 tpi) NU-THRED model I just found. Again, based on name, I am guessing Reiff & Nestor.

Found these at the flea market this morning. No room for them though, I'm going to need to find a buyer.
Check the back to see if any are stamped Plomb. Hit me up if any are.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrench 3061

No luck yet with finding the thread file. The search continues.
Upon review of PMs, seems there were at least three of us GJers at Jake's today. The other two set up to sell, but I was only buying.
Today I got down to Jake’s Flea Market before sunrise, so was treated with a fine view of rosy-fingered Dawn as I trudged up the hill. Well worth the solo drive (MrsLS elected to stay behind), and $31.
In addition to the beautiful sky, I came away with an old socket set (only the T-handle is marked Duro) in a nice green carry box, a 1896-1917 Disston no4 backsaw, a 1917-1928 Disston no16 panel saw, a Perfect Handle screwdriver, a skate sharpener, a gauge, etc. plus, a Bonney Champion no121 or no122 table vise.

Got a racerback for my truck today for only $40, its in nice shape with all the moumting hardware. Whats your thoughts on it? Not mounted yet just sitting there in the pic.0ca92cefa79fbd57db9f1a370180aa44.jpg

Do those have a purpose besides decorational? I can't figure out why someone would want to put that on a truck.

Just a decoration, Growing up, everyone had them and I always thought they were cool. I know that not everyone likes them but i do, it dont look the best on my current truck in the pic but soon im going to be buying another slightly newer truck of the same bodystyle and it will go on that.

Nothing over the top. Found a few loose SK, Plomb, and Proto sockets, but not worth the pickup. Did get this entire box of taps for $10. Almost all made in USA, mostly Greenfield with some old ACE and Craftsman included. Got the Craftsman USA tap handle at another sale for $1.

Aw, heck! I forgot to post the photo illustrating the sky at Jake’s this morning. Here it is.
And a couple close ups of the screwdriver. Kind of a combination thing. As found, it looked like it had spent most of its working life opening cans of paint.

The T handle looks to be the one that is often missing from the unmarked Duro Chrome Ell handles. Here is mine. I posted it in the Duro Chrome thread back in April.

Cool multi driver LS!
Yes, I thought it was kind of different. Sort of straight and offset too. Not seeing it online, and the only catalog pdf I have is a 4-page excerpt that doesn’t include it.

Don, Lugz:
The Duro square drive handle is the second I’ve found without the el. Have to retrain my eyes for the right shape. I see the hex ones everywhere, so maybe I just don’t recognize the round/square ones.

Picked up the following barn finds.

1. Pics 1,2 and 3 --Baldor Buffer Cat # 407B. HP. 115/230 volt.

Never had buffer before, but has 1-1/2" wide medium Paramount 100% Wool Mfg #318 buffer wheel on one side and other buffer is 1" wide medium by Paramount. What is the rubber tire over each of the buffer pads and how is it used?

2. Pics 4 & 5 Parker #974 Vise. 4" jaws and 63.2 lbs.

3. Pics 6 & 7 Piece of Rail Section 62.8 lbs

Cont: in next posting

Mike

The Duro square drive handle is the second I’ve found without the el.
I am just the opposite - I have two of the T-L wrenches without the pivoting sheath/handle. I'll give you one of my wrenches if you give me one of your handles! We can do the swap at Q-town this fall.

Pic 3 & 4--Believe this was used in factory setting for trash containers. Cast iron wheels by Fairbanks
Fairbanks made all kinds of dollies, carts, and hand trucks. That's a good find.

Duro 711 valve grinder
I'm on travel and I missed this the first time around, HeelSpur. I have one, far less ornate. Nice find!

I see the hex ones everywhere, so maybe I just don’t recognize the round/square ones.
AA has one model with a hex stock wrench with hex drive studs, not a round shank with square drive studs. And it looks like one of the Ell hex wrenches in that box you found has the extra stops on it for the sheath/handle. Did you test it?

Also, note that my wrenches are marked Indestro, not Duro, while your sheath/handle is Duro. So maybe we want to re-consider.
