The box is 18 about inches high and 26 inches long. The two slats in front of the drawers prevents it from opening when you lock the top lid.

LessorSon, the Fagel version came out in my bookstore days, and I read it then. I am curious about the older translations, as they give a very different perspective. And yes, it will go nicely on the shelf.

Don, I am not allowed to touch the better halves kitchen knives, as she is the cook in the family. Though she is pretty good at sharpening. I am much better at tool and drill bits.

That/s a lot bigger than I expected! I didn't think they used the std box chassis for that!

Much better for hand tools than I would have expected!

Coleman stoves around here run from $5 to $20 . Nobody wants white gas anymore .Looking at the price of white gas, er, Coleman fuel, I'm not sure I do either. As parts, just the generator alone, it was a good buy.

Years back on a hunting trip to northern BC, remember when hardware stores had drawers full of Coleman parts, how about even hardware stores, I stopped at a real hardware store for parts for a 3 burner I was working on . By the time I we added up the parts, I bought a new 3 burner instead. It was tinny, though, I had to build a travel box.

OK, one of my bigger tool scores recently!

I passed on an older SO Top box for $40 - No room for that and I'm not partial to tops anyway... There was also an ancient hex drive impact in a wood box apparently made for it that was cool. the box needed major attention but was mostly there. Big project, so...

Here is what I did bring home:

The bigger stuff: Plvmb, P&C, Blue point, Long C ratchet, Champion swivle ratchet indestro "Auto" type wrench, 8" Masterench- pipe, and a Bronze (BeCu or Aluminum?) Desco fire hose wrench:

attachment.php

SO wrenches-OEX combos from 3/8 to 3/4 missing the 9/16 (no biggie I have a few) - SO innition wrenches, Diamally and Craftsman igniiton pliers, the diamolly are arc joint!, and a Peugeot patent style wrench, my first that is a combo and plated

attachment.php

Two Socekt rtrays, one is MAC, the big set of sockets is Long C craftsman with an older single crftsman that was earlier IIR, SO in the middle and the big one is 3/4 drive, to the right is metric, - larger Craftsman and one SK, A single Plvmb swivel, and a single MAC.

attachment.php

A Stanley adjustable square, A Proto Body hammer and a handle.

attachment.php

All told I count 50 pieces, so not as high on average than I was thinking.

How do you go about preventing rust in the stoves & lanterns???

Inside the fount? filter the fuel, the felt helps keep water out. Empty them once in a while into a container and look for water, pour off the uncontaminated fuel back in...

The thing is, in high humidity areas pumping them up will put water vapor into the fount where under pressure it condenses and settles to the bottom. that's why most rust through spots are on the bottom...

Some swear by draining the tanks when not in use, I prefer to keep them completely full. However, if I do get a leak...

Older GPA's are more prone to rust as back in the day, it was common to get white gas from a 55 gallon barrel at a station. My dad used a 5 gallon Jerry can... In my teens and early twenties I could still buy it bulk from Texaco Star and Bar stations... The barrels were used over and over, collected humid air and rusted inside themselves and you often got contaminated fuel.

This is rarely an issue with one gallon single use cans today...

Buy the fuel at Walmart - not Coleman, Crown. it about half the cost...

I also buy it (sometimes its free) at yard sales. for pennies..

Here in BC, the only other brand of white gas is Record, at almost the same price. I was shocked at the $20 some price. I still have some kicking around. I remember buying white gas as well as solvent from a barrel at the gas station.

Fine haul there Outlaw. Today was a good day for me as well.

My new philosophy about the flea market I’d like to share with you all.

Flea markets: Some days you win, some days you lose, and other days you get really lucky by accidentally missing the turning lane into the driveway, realize you can’t cross the double yellows in front of oncoming traffic to turn into the next driveway, and end up turning at the corner, where you park somewhere you never have before way out in left field near the produce vendors, before spotting a random box truck with tools all over the ground that you otherwise wouldn’t have known was there. :lol_hitti

Thanks to that different parking lot and one oddly placed vendor, this is what I found from him alone.

Two olive drab bags, one marked Unicor USA, one China.

attachment.php

Found a few surprises in one pocket when I got home.
attachment.php

attachment.php

Some tape and Goo Gone
tiny Morris tap set in a wood box
Bonney, Crescent, and Diamond adjustables
Old long wood chisel too rusty to view a maker
Sheffield and Smith & Wesson pocket knives
pink Snap On pick
a Japanese metric tool kit

attachment.php

The best part was a box of rusty sockets. First thing to catch my eye was a large Snap On 1-1/4” socket. Further inspection led to a few more rust covered pieces I was happy to rescue. They look a lot better now after some quick cleaning.

3 snap On sockets
Craftsman 1/2” u joint
Williams rotating 1/2” extension
Blackhawk 1/2” ratcheting adapter
Ampro 3/8 offset ratchet
Craftsman 3/8 tri-wing
Master Mechanic 3/8 Taiwan ratchet

attachment.php

attachment.php

and a pocket knife with a rusty shackle, so I wasn’t expecting much, but when I opened it, turned out to be a Camillus in beautiful shape.

But of course I didn’t stop with just the first vendor! I continued on through finding some more goodies.

attachment.php

It turned into a good day for unusual pieces, so I took some individual pics except for the Two Cherries chisel, Proto LA scraper, Williams machine wrench, and large Mac ball peen.

Found a kind of odd one, a really nice Sandvik Belzer 1/4” bit socket. Thought it was a #2 phillips but may actually be a Pozidrive.

attachment.php

A Bonney 3/8” spinner handle. At this one vendor, I opened up a tool box drawer of junk screwdrivers that I looked in many times before, and closed the drawer, before doing a double take and quickly opening the drawer again. i was like did I just see that in there. Got it for $1 along with the little Snap On offset screwdriver in the next photo, found at the back of that same drawer.

attachment.php

Snap On offset driver, a bunch of Thorsen sockets, an SK, Snap On, Proto, Easco, Kraueter 3/8 U joint, and a craftsman ratchet lever and pawl.

attachment.php

Some strange Boker pliers.

attachment.php

A $1 Craftsman deal. The vendor said $2, no, $1. Th ratchet works. Broken breaker bar and some 1/2” parts.

attachment.php

Chrome Vanadium 1/2” breaker from one vendor, with the perfect fitting cross bar found at another vendor. How unlikely is that.

Picked this little Rockwell/Baldor grinder off marketplace for $20.

Will need a new switch as the current one has a short, but works like a charm and runs out smooth.

Missing the eye shields but all the other guarding/rests are intact.

I brought home a myriad of things today from the flea.
The fuel can is dated 1943 (SAMCO), a brand I don't have in the collection. The Lestronic II is a 24V battery charger, designed for golf carts, but I'm going to give it to my Father so he can charge the batteries on his 24V Willys M-38.
A near complete set of New Britain made Penncraft 3/8" drive. Needs some cleaning.
TRUTH made Wardsmaster ratchet, Easco ratchet, A bunch of 3/8" drive deep Cornwell sockets, Other sockets include Plomb, Bonney, and Blackhawk. Buffalo (Taiwan) rivet kit, long pry bar, Vacuum Grip dykes, Utica needle nose, Boker slip joints. Some solder and flux, Rawhide mallet, Craftsman BE 3/8" drive breaker bar and a handful of wrenches from Mac, Wright, Wizard, and Armstrong.

But the find of the day is the 1946 dated Coleman GI stove! Full of fuel and fired right up for me. Complete with aluminum case.

I hit a few sales over the weekend and scored the following stuff.

Dewalt grinder was NIB for $10, I was actually looking for one.
attachment.php

All the Snapon extras were $15
attachment.php

Another fan. Definitely not as nice as the one I scored a month ago but for the price of $8, I couldn't pass it up. Now I can practice my restoration skills on this one instead of the previous one. If I screw this one up I won't be upset.

So a couple of wees ago I had mentioned I'd like to find a protractor head for one of the small 6" combination squares.

A week of so ago I did find a smaller center finder. but it didn't not fit the steel rule in any of my 6" squares...

Today I was putting some new things away in the tiny tools box and saw the 4" square I had completely forgotten about:

Low and behold, it FIT! It also ID'ed the maker! :bounce:

attachment.php

And in comparison to a std size square and the smaller 6""

attachment.php

And an interesting Stacked Pic:

attachment.php

So now to find a protractor head!

You wandered into the wrong building! This is place is full of pushers and bootleggers! (ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE!)

I slipped out to an estate sale just after opening, and watched one of the regular sharks leaving empty handed. (I've seen this guy get kicked out of one estate sale!)

I did well! - Mostly camping related...

A couple pf reel cranks, NOS strike signal for fishing, a pole clamp for I think 3/4" and the oddest fishing pole I've ever seen?

A Daiwa Polyester Silver collapsible fishing pole - 18-1/2" closed, nearly 12 feet extended, and NO eyes! only a nub on the tip (so you tie the line to the end? :dunno: even with the toy fly reel, it weighs all of 1/2 lb, so maybe for back packing? :headscrat

attachment.php

...

Outlaw,
Nice hauls as usual. How about a close up of the tip of the Diawa rod please? I kind of would have expected an eye to run the fishing line thru and an anchor somewhere near the reel end. Looks cool!

ReverseP,
You **** on that Baldor grinder!

3bay, the "strange" Boker pliers you posted in #5297 are for use on the lock nuts of Amphenol multi-connector plugs used in electronics, military equipment and aviation electrical systems. They grip the ribbed outer surface of the circular nuts.

I got off to a later start Sunday, heading east, then north, through Wind Gap to Saylorsburg PA, and the Blue Ridge Flea Market. It was humming with great attendance. $37.50 and a pleasant walk amid impending fall foliage.
I picked up a lot of older Bonney, a Lodi cutter pliers with a 1900 patent renewal stamp, and a 2’x4’ tool roll (The vendor really pushed it on me as a premium with some tools. Now it’s the thing I’m most intrigued about. He also had a bunch of NB stuff - a naked mole-ratchet, spinner, and extensions, but no sockets. I think now I should have simply bought it all for one price, but I was very conscious of my light wallet and heavy backpack.) D-I 1” socket and some Duro Chrome electrical wrenches. A pre-datecode Snap-on spinner, two “WWII correct” CeeTee pliers, and some that are not. A REED pliers - haven’t seen that before. I’ll post close-ups as I can.

The Reed pliers, longC tappet and 1/2dr ext, etc.
Plus a 1906patent C.Parker No33, and an IVY Tool Co carry box. I did NOT buy them, but they were lovely.
I also walked away from a maybe-Bonney “Standard Pattern” table vise, on which I could find not the slightest maker’s mark, but recognized the JGBaker-patented screw-retaining design.
In the “opportunities lost” category, I’ll add that the bins I donated to MrsLS’s Saturday yard sale contained three Vlchek gull-wing pliers and two lug-setters that I suspect were very early Snap-on. Didn’t even have pics of those, and now they’re GONE.

At a yard sale that turned out to be an estate sale.
Walk through the entire house cellar to attic.
Priced by the bucketfull.
I spent hours.
Here are a few that tickle my fancy
The Marples wood carving set is near mint.
Crown logo Craftsman 2' level.
A coffee vacuum that for some reason has no handle. I liked getting the box.
And what I guess is a Craftsman "Circle F" brace bit extension.
Spinning the knurled section draws the outer shaft & locks in the bit.
If anybody has any info on that I'd appreciate it. There is no model number.

a Lodi cutter pliers with a 1900 patent renewal stamp...[ ]...and some Duro Chrome electrical wrenches.
Those Schollhorn cutting flat nose pliers have unusually long handles. If you scroll through the Schollhorn thread (see post #19), you'll see what I mean. I have a pair with 5" handles and another pair with 6-1/2" handles. How long are those?

The Duro-Chrome "E" series ignition wrenches are early wartime.

These are 10-1/4” OAL. 8-1/4” from the rivet to the tips of the handles.
The design could be improved by a positive stop when the bypass cutting notches align in the open position, and - less importantly - a third cutting notch between the open jaws: two Utica improvements to their Giant Buttons pattern pliers, which these resemble, from a functional viewpoint.

Edit - 10” Button’s pattern pliers are rightfully credited to J.M.King - it’s just that I have Uticas. My dad has a pair of Kings, so I haven’t sought them in the wild.

Went to an auction Saturday. Picked up an NOS 6.5 kw generator for $35.
An arbor press for $35, two trays of castors for $45, A bench vise for $15. I had to buy the bench to get it and then get it off. And a tray full of hole saws for $5

BB,
I’m pretty sure that no-name bit driver is Duro / Indestro.

My wife and I took a trip to Eastern Oregon last weekend. We visited some museums and took some scenic routes that were very beautiful. We stopped at a couple of shops in Madras, and at a pawn shop I found the items in photo #1:
Long-C 1033C DOE 15/16x1"
Billings 2007 S-shaped DOE 5/16SAEx3/8SAE (1/2"x9/16" openings)
File handle (it matches some I already have)
Many sockets from bins of loose, unsorted ones:
SK - 1/2 dr. 40122 11/16 unplated
1/4 dr. 40900 5/16 8-point

P&C - all 1/2 dr. 1/2 deep
5/8
13/16

Plomb USA - 1/2 dr. 5414 7/16

Long-C - 1/2 dr. 3/4 circle H
3/8 dr. 3/4 BE
3/8 dr. 9/16 circle H

Husky- 3/8 dr. 3/4
1/4 dr. 7/16
1/4 dr. 3/8 8-point
1/2 dr. 13/16
1/2 dr. 25/32
1/2 dr. 11/16

Mustang - 1/2 dr. 11/16

Heading for Redmond, we saw a sign for a garage sale in the country. For $2.00 it produced the items in photo #2:

1/4" drill bit, 12" long
7/16" drill bit with a 1/4" shank
1/2" drill bit, long length
Quick Link
1/2 dr. 1/2" Thorsen socket
JIC hydraulic fitting

A little further south, we saw another sale. This one produced the items in photo #3 and the belt sander in photo #4. $15.00 for the belt sander and $2.75 for the other stuff:

Channellock #447 angled side cutters
P&C offset screwdriver
Snap On XV 1618 DBE 1/2x9/16
Indestro 5/8x11/16 DBE
Nail Clippers

Rockwell 1"x42" belt sander with Westinghouse 1/3 HP motor, on stand

The folks at the first sale told us about another garage sale just 1/4 mile further down the road. It turned out to have nothing of interest, but in talking to the sellers, it turned out that the man was in my wife's class in High School, and the wife worked in the same drive-in restaurant starting a month after my wife quit to take a better job. Small world!!!

Outlaw,
Nice hauls as usual. How about a close up of the tip of the Diawa rod please? I kind of would have expected an eye to run the fishing line thru and an anchor somewhere near the reel end. Looks cool!

ReverseP,
You **** on that Baldor grinder!

No eye TX!

A knot on a braided cord bonded and wrapped onto the tip - somewhat flexible.
