Dial caliper is a Helios Fowler.
Nozzle is a Southgate Cal. S.E.CO
Cleaned up nice and is accurate.
Hey BajaScout, I had a pair of the Helios Fowler calipers that i liked better than the starrett, very smoothe !
I can also read the 100th dial face better too.
Those did clean up nicely.

I don't want to get on a rant about "voter apathy", low voter turn-out", "civic duty", "active responsibility vs. voyeurism" and "support your local sheriff", but BlueBomber has made it pretty damn easy for forum members to take 7.5 seconds of your life (depending on connection speed) and two clicks of your mouse to cast your vote. Yet, as of this posting, only 49 members have bothered to shake off the lethargy, wipe the drool off their chins and make that monumental effort. I don't know how many people are subscribed to this thread, but 49/# subscribed is a pretty pathetic voter turnout.

Don't be too hasty. With the turn over on this thread, you are looking at how many posts to make a judgment over the year worth of posts ?
I take it , it would mean finds from fleamarkets, garage sales, antique stores and pawn shops. And what criteria ? Two examples just from own finds; a Starrett small combination hand/clamp-on vise . I have never seen one before, I didn't even know that something this fine a hand vise existed, great for my gunsmithing. And 1/2" full polish Gray combination. In a year of good finds, that one dollar wrench is special to me.

Ahhh. You may be correct. I hadn't considered the possibility that all the subscribers (minus 49) were actually devoting their time, up to the very last minute, going through the past year's record, keeping notes on purchase quality and quantity (the suckworthyness) of each of the candidates.
I don't know why that possibility never occurred to me. It must be my jaded perception of human nature.

As of right now, 6,331 posts. Don't forget estate sales, CL, the ReStore, the middle of the road, the side of the road, the dump, and the curb on bulk pickup days.
If you upped your ante in participation in 2020 from 20 posts to, oh, whatever will get you into the Top 10 most active participants range, you could be eligible for the voting on the 2021 Host, a ceremonial position with some privileges, such as picking your own end of year awards format.

I picked up this box (see Pics 1 & 2) at the flea market this morning. It was 19*F and worse with the wind chill, and, as expected, there were less than a dozen vendors there. But only one mattered! I didn’t really want anything inside of it (misc Proto, Husky, and some Fleet…) - although I found the little Littlestown vise interesting and the Nixon button to be a humorous and timely bit of irony (see Pic 3), but the seller’s price for “the whole shebang” was less than what I was going to offer for the box, and it saved me from having to dump everything out.
Some of you may recognize it. There is a little bit of that GJ Synchronicity/Magic going on here. I will have more to say about that on the Toolboxes thread.

Just think, it took human culture thousands of years to go from manual tools to power tools, but here on the Garage Sale thread we went from the rather simple, inert, Golden Mechanical Fingers trophy in Pic 1 to the electronic ****-O-Meter trophy in Pic 2 in two years flat!
I’ll say it again. Next year’s host has his friggin’ work cut out for him come Picker of the Year trophy time!

One? ONE?! C'mon. I wouldn't be able to do that even if I wanted to. I've been on this thread since 2012, I hosted last year's thread, and I could barely confine my profiles of each of the PotY finalists to 12 outstanding picks each!
I will tell you the pick I was most jealous of, which is different than the one I thought was the most outstanding. Don's (d42jeep's) wife found a 1943 edition of Machinery's Handbook! The other almost wartime Machinery's Handbook, a 1946 edition (found by BlueBomber, post #1694. page 85) did not go unnoticed! Haha.
Other envy-inducing finds included LesserSon's Eifel wrench, with 10 jaws, in the original pouch; jvlyon's desktop Mack truck dog statue; Oily's WWII Heliograph (post #1502, pg 76), Provincial's Shapleigh "S" wrench (#2158, page 108); and 3baygarage's odd and very unique OTC-made adjustable (multiple pin-and-slot!) wrench (post #2475, page 124); HeelSpur's Giles patent wrench (post #3086, pg 155); davethorik's Boker hand vise (post ##2474, pg 124); Ben Buck's copper Globemaster oiler (post #5963, pg 196); and Prichman38's Plomb "Name-Nurl" pliers (post #5151, pg 258).
Other single finds that stuck with me were Davefr's oak hand truck, honza.vosalik's Heritage-era wall cabinet (post #3773, pg 189), freudianfloyd's complete Blackhawk No. 32-CD socket set (post #2795, pg 140), and Boofer's fall haul of Brazil Tools and Bethlehem Spark Plug Co "Quick-Way" socket set "A" (post #4481, pg 225).
I already mentioned our modest host once, but he racks up some good picks, too - see the blacksmith leg vises (post #1172, pg 59), the set of matching Green, Tweede, & Co DEFENSE hammers (post #1795, pg 90), and the T-40 Whizbang MRL rocket wood box (post #1795, pg 90).
I also already mentioned, 3bay, who is a deceptively voluminous picker, who also has some big scores. See the 8-piece lot of Schollhorn BERNARD pliers (post #2095) just for one example.
Lastly, and at the risk of letting many, many others out, I will tell you who I thought had killer picker years: JoCo and Beemer.
JoCo had one of the hottest hot streaks of the year in March, with a Long C roller, a very early wood box era Blackhawk No. 4 socket set, and a NOS Heritage-era Crafty butterfly ratchet set, back to back to back, and that didn't include the Blackhawk Nuggets set (post #1416, pg 71)!

Had planned to get up early and hit a local estate sale that had a lot of stuff. My wife had other plans so I was about an hour late to arrive, another 40 min before I actually made it in the house. The main reason I was going was to try and nab a Dazor floating lamp I'd spotted at the top of a shelf in the background of one of the estate sale pics. Turned out it was still there. This is the 3rd Dazor floating lamp I've picked up this year. It was working and appeared to be in great shape. Jackpot!
Picked up some other goodies for the shop - brass hinges for boxes, set of 4 brass corners, pegboard hooks, file brush, dental picks & small files and a spool of aluminum wire.
Been hoping for a few years that I'd someday find a set of clamps for one or both of my Workmates. Found a set of clamps (2) with the bases today, plus an extra set of bench stops (4). $4 total. Jackpot!
Recently, picked up a large cone (?) of twine. Was thinking I needed to make some type of stand. Found a couple of rebar welded stands at the estate sale, one of which I'll use for that twine. $1. Jackpot!
The blue-handled Channellock small needle-nosed pliers will go with a set of Channellock tools I'm putting together. Jackpot!
Our son texted us last night saying he and his wife had been playing quite a bit of gin rummy lately and also stated we should play Mahjong over Christmas (think Chinese version of gin rummy but played with tiles instead of cards). Once upon a time we had a Mahjong set but I checked after getting home from the estate sale and it isn't in our game closet. Luckily I just happened to pick up a brand new, never opened set at the estate sale. $3 no less. Jackpot!
I'm easy to please obviously. ;0) Had fun today and that is really what it's all about.
One more thing, I mentioned the Dazor floating lamp was in great shape. Well, I didn't look close enough. When I was loading it in the car I noticed the wires were pinched in the elbow where the arms meet. That elbow is damaged. Paid more for this lamp ($30) than my other two put together. But I've already called Dazor and emailed them pics of the damage. The guy said they do have parts for these older lamps. Hopefully, I'll have it working good as new real soon and eventually I'll learn to be more cautious!

That's worth fixing because it's a 3 tube model. Most are 1 or 2 tube.
