Something different than my normal old wrenches and stuff at estate sales.

This was on Facebook Marketplace in three different ads and took quite a bit of haggling to make the deals.

In the end if was $115 total for everything! Merry Christmas to me!

Bought a crate with tools last Saturday. Paid 20,- for it.

Take a guess why i bought it.

Looks like a pretty good deal. Did you buy it for the antique 'aligator' wrench? Or is the box itself a desirable antique? Looks like a convenient setup with the screwdriver rack and tray.

Post up that stereo gear? Old vintage 70's stuff?

as requested.
although i pick up tools & garage items when they're a deal, my greatest vice (and source of a bit of marital discord) is 60s-80s vintage stereo gear. referenced haul included ~100 r2r tapes, electro-voice model 644 spot mike, shure mic mixer, sansui & fisher timers, jvc 14-band quad eq, fisher cassette player, fisher receiver, akai 10.5" quad r2r, pioneer pl570 tt w/jvc quad demodulator (converts tt to quad), pioneer ct-f500 cassette player, matched pair of pioneer spec-2 amps & spec-1 pre amps, as well as (not pictured) sr303 reverbs, pioneer rack, sanyo rack, ~30 lp's and 45's and a pair of cs922 speakers. i think there's more in there but you get the idea...
repairing the bottom shelf of the pioneer rack and crafting shelves for the sanyo rack today before the "leaning tower" collapses.
kicker: cost all was covered by sales of the fire hydrant (buyer stated it's soon to be included in set for upcoming episode of "walking dead") and oxy-acetylene torch kit, which went out last night.

I ran into a mess of antique era fixed socket wrenches at the flea market this morning. (See Pic 1) The seller cleared out an old garage and they were all hanging on the wall on pegs. I literally called in late for work, took my jacket off, and took an hour going through it. Mainly Walden-Worcester, Mossberg, and Blackhawk, with one or two wrenches from other mfgrs (Indestro, Bog, Fawson, etc) in the mix, and lots of hand-forged wrenches and homemade tools as well. There was a complete set (in size range) of Walden speeders, tee-handles, and double-offset hammer head type wrenches. Remember, this is fixed socket era - so one of each type handle per service opening. Also a near-complete set (in size range) of Mossberg tee-handles. I wasn't very flush today, so I had to decide which way I wanted to go. I grabbed the Mossberg Tees, some interesting speeders, and some interesting odds and ends. (See Pics 2 & 3.) I may go back and try to cut a deal for all the Walden.

Keep your eye on the San Antonio estate sales. Seems like there's one almost every week or so that has an old audiophile bent.

Indeed. That’s a Bahco 31 stamped Volvo. There where two of those in there.
Mostly woodworking tools which I flipped mostly already. Planes and chisels. The box will become the wives sewing chest. Home built box that had its lid replaced by a plywood one.

tks for heads-up. unfortunately, it would take >2 hrs to get to sa sales - incidentally, the same time req'd to get to canton's "first monday," which we've been itching to hit for several years. maybe once we retire...(?) until then, stuck with 35-mi radius.

Not much going on today, but I did manage to scrounge a few things:

Klein bag on a decent (for once) 1-7/8 belt that fits. Plomb driver three early Duro sockets and a Milwaukee arbor box. I already had the arbor, just wanted to see if it fit.

But, at the first stop, while it looked like someone grabbed all the good tools I did manage to find an interesting lamp that will be my next lighting project:

I have never seen a florescent floor lamp before, at least not one set up like this. I already know I will need to make a shade of some sort, but it will be interesting, to say the least!

Since we had to be in Marin County this morning anyway, I found that virtually the only Craigslist ad that mentioned tools was in Sebastopol. Since it was only 40 more minutes up Highway 101 and we saw some nice wine country scenery I wasn’t too worried about if the sale would be decent. It turned out to be kind of a bust with one Plomb 3/8” drive speeder and some autographed Craftsman wrenches. We had passed several antique stores on the way to the sale so we stopped at one on the way home and found quite a few rusty treasures, at least from my point of view. The first three pictures are from the first sale, the last four are from the antique store. The fifth picture are tools that I believe to be Duro, many with additional Navy markings. The sixth picture is a batch of rusty 3/8” drive Plomb and the last picture is of some rusty Craftsman.

Nice finds in the end-of-year doldrums, folks!

Speaking of the end-of-year, it is nearing the time to relaunch our Garage Sale thread for the new year. The poll to pick who among us will have the privilege of opening the thread after midnight and acting as host for the year has been running for the last week and closed at 9:40pm tonight. The selectee, by a landslide, is LesserSon!

Congrats, LS! As outgoing opener and host, I will begin the turnover process, including signing over all accounts, properties, holdings and locations of undisclosed picker droid factories off planet. It'll take me a little time to get it all done.....aaaaand there, it's done! :)

Cheers!

doesn't that ****?
You need to set all that equipment up in a wood-paneled room furnished with a brown velour couch and listen to your music clad in a leisure suit with ruffle-collar shirt.

Lugz, RT, and D42 - Wow great scores for this time or year! Things are dead around here! well done!

UNK - All that from ONE place? Wow! FYI - Read the rule on post one on the topic of suckage - you can't do anything to encourage people to award it...

LS! Well deserved! I'm sure you will serve with distinction!

I have wanted to have all my air tools stored in quick disconnects put could not justify the expense.
I know that normally store bought does not fit in this thread but this may be an exception. Lowes in Canada are shutting a number of stores including their Rona brand they purchased a few years ago. The Lowes and Rona were within 1/4 mile in my town so the Rona is being closed. The store was getting very empty today and almost all the tools were gone. I was able to get 11 display quick disconnects (with no air seal internals) for $10 as a fixture sale.

Congratulations LesserSon!

Last trip to the flea market for the year and it was pretty dead. Holiday hangover I guess. I did manage to scrounge a few things...
Proto LA 1 5/8” socket and 5/8” combo, craftsman 1/4” speeder and 3/8” sliding t, p&c pliers, and a full set of =v= doe wrenches in the bitchin’ metal clip.

On Sunday, I hit a local auto swap, picking up the following:

Thorsen 1/2 socket set from the early '70s $10, P&C caulking iron and Long C brace bits for a buck, Greenlee armored cable cutter and wartime SK box for five, a Lufkin and two Stanley boxwood rulers for $5, 27/32 MT2 drill bit, misc. Blackhawk and SK sockets, Starret tachometer for $4,

Snap-on BF500 paint gun (this was on the dollar table!) and

1929 Stanley sweetheart catalog for $15. I also picked up a Wright 1/2 socket tray, a Proto 3/8 breaker bar, and an unmarked chisel for a couple of bucks. I also ran into Oregon Rock Crusher and Provincial and got a tour of Provincials wonderful shop afterward. I very nice day in all.

All Snap on spray guns were made by Sharpe.

Had a good but long day. I hit two flea markets and went to dinner after, so no pics to share yet.

Had a few interesting interactions. Passed on a nice deal. There was a heavy old red Mac top box in so so condition. Nice Mac badge on front, Mac Allied Tools tag on the back. Needed a good cleaning, some rust in the top, the drawer slides all very gunked and sticking, one smashed in bottom back corner that didn’t affect operation.

Anyway, the seller tells me 30 bucks. Great price. I looked it over well for a few minutes, and as I’m looking he tells me 25! I wanted it for the storage, but just the thought of moving around another heavy box numerous times made my back hurt. The main deterrent though, lack of space right now. Especially for another top chest. It sold about 3 minutes after I walked away. Oh well.

Here’s one for Lugz:
Another good one was a regular with an unknown cantilever box full of old USA sockets. The box was also so so condition, rusted outside with bumper stickers all over. I ask about it and he says $35 for the whole thing. I didn’t want it all, though there was a nice amount of vintage Craftsman and S-K, P&C, etc.. There was a handful of misc older Mac and a Snap On, some in not so great shape, a total of two metric including one all rust up. I pulled them out and the guy looks over every last socket in detail and separate them by brand..Mac, Snap on, Mac, Snap On etc.. He tells me $25 for them, and that I pulled out the better stuff. Mind you I left 75% of the sockets in the box. I said I’ll take the whole box then. He goes (with a big smirk on his face) “No, sorry buddy. That deal is gone, you missed it.” I told him I’d think you know what you have for sale beforehand, and I walked. I missed a fair deal on the whole box but as I walked away I realized I didn’t NEED any of his ****, I mean tools. I still had a nice day but was sorry that happened early on.

Usually people like that as you start walking away will try to pull you back in. Bummer it didn't end up that way.
