The clamp with the square hole is for mounting a saw vise.

Nice finds, my father used a wooden set of shelves like that for holding cigar boxes of small parts.

BHKing: Several items worthy of You **** right there! Very good score on the Coleman stove and Milwaukee Sawzall.

My untrained eye would say that square hole in the c-clamp looks like it's made for a ratchet wrench, but I don't know how that would be useful.

.

If BMW is correct, the opposite side should have some radial grooves on it to help lock it in place, like this picture. I hade to create a mount for this one.

Final image should look like lower left, pdf p 25 if the link breaks

If that B&D grinder works, be careful. They are a real animal! I ran one when I first got into the workforce 50 years ago, and it is very powerful. You need to put a good side handle on the head before you try to use it, because it takes two hands ( and a good grip) to control it when you hit the trigger!

You get a **** on that haul.

Thanks guys. BMW and RTM, so good with recognizing the clamp is for a saw vise! I guess I need to get a saw vise now, and learn how to sharpen my saws!

Provincial, will definitely get a side handle for that beast of a grinder. Plan to take it apart for a thoroughly inspection/clean. Feels like it weighs 15lbs. Motor sounds smooth (as does the Sawzall); the cord is thicker than my thumb!

BMW, your Dad’s storage with cigar boxes brings back memories. Where have all those useful boxes gone? I was eying that plywood shelf and scolding myself for getting it (vs making it myself), but the price of plywood today plus the time to construct (and I don’t own a router) made it a no brainer. I’ve sprung for homemade wooden tote toolboxes for the same reason.

6c255cd7afb6628f812f23952f7fc54d.jpg

Mike, the Coleman stove is the best condition one yet. I’ve paid more for abused rusty ones in the past. Hard to pass them up when they are priced right.

OK, I think you guys are going to be proud of me! And probably a little jealous. Went to an epic yard sale in the little town of Oyster Creek, TX. They were literally trying to give away their tools that they had accumulated over the years.

I brought my own bag and was filling it up with Snap On, SK, Proto, Hazet, and handfulls of Craftsman wrenches. I brought my first bag up and started unloading it and the guy said, "how about $25?" After that it was game on.

Came away with Ridged pipe wrenches (up to 36"), Greenlee conduit punch set, Fluke multi-meter, Milwaukee grinder, big bag of hole saws, Smith jewelers torch, and too many drill bits, pliers, etc. to catalog. In all I spent about $110.

More from that same yard sale. Probably the most coveted is the 4 - 10mm wrenches that I found (so that's where they've been hiding!)

That last pic is a very desirable acetylene Smith Little Torch welding handle with two of those tips being pricey. Too bad your missing the hose (there expensive) and looks like the rose bud tip is tweaked.

Finally! Hit an estate sale this morning with a few tools. I had spotted some hand planes on the wall in one of the ad pics. Left to right, Stanley No 5 Type 11 (1910-1918), Miller Falls No 85 Rabbet plane, Jas Swan Co USA 5/8" chisel, 2 brass coat hooks, unknown saw and a Bluegrass hammer with Belknap Hardware & Mfg Co decal. The No 5 looks original beyond the tote (rear handle) not being rosewood and the plane iron looks like a newer replacement. Strangely, this is my first Miller Falls plane. It appears to be missing the fence and the depth stop. My first Jas Swan Co chisel and my first Bluegrass hammer. Anyone know what type of hammer this is exactly? Also, does anyone recognize the unmarked saw? There was another picker there who thought the handle could be Bakelite. Thoughts? It was nice to be out looking through tools. Lastly, not pictured I bought 34 linear ft of wooden door trim. Which set me back $6.

Yup, tack hammer with the split end magnetized.

The cute little saw was a kitchen saw, for hacking up your frozen roasts. I'll try find the brand and update this message later.

Drawing a blank on brand. The horn handle makes me think 60-70s

YEs, the rose bud fitting is bent and needs to be cleaned up. The torch seems to be in good condition, but no hoses or regulators.

Ok. Interesting. Here are two more pics. Is the handle most likely plastic or is this old enough that it might actually be bakelite?

Not part of this sale, but the swivel locks I got from autopts arrived to replace the mismatched set the Wilton 835 came with, so I thought I would show it off.

Thanks Mike!

Today I hit two loser sales--the first was tool-rich, but it looked like the guy went to a Sears/Craftsman close-out sale and bought everything he could grab. Almost everything was new/unopened. Needless to say, with nothing resembling my kind of "vintage," I left empty handed. At the third sale all they had was an empty Craftsman stack of recent manufacture. No tools of note.

The second sale was a redux at yesterday's sale but at a 25% discount.

- Challenger No. 6151, 11 piece Combo Roll--a little greasy when I picked it up, but cleaned up nicely.
- Proto 5263 3/8" 17" Extension
- Proto L.A. 4763 1/4" 14" Extension
- Proto L.A. 275 5-1/2" Slip Joint Pliers
- Duro-Chrome 2087 8" Adjustable Wrench
- Sargent USN Padlock with key
- 22oz bottle of Simple Green
- 13' roll of self-stick velvet paper

Total $29.

Screenshot_20210409-184813_Facebook.jpgPicked up little Reed 103 1/2 vise off FBM for $25 this morning. With a quick cleanup it's gonna be a sweet little vise! Hopefully it's a good sign of things to come.

I was able to get out and hit a few sales today, although only one was any good.

A Diston D8, from 1896 to 1917, Perfect handle that needs a little tweaking, unmarked tack hammer, Boston Gear flex coupler, Stanley everlast that has been well used, a small aluminum bit container, and well-loved, a small aluminum bit container, and an odd hammer that got caught out of frame:

Not sure what it is used for, anyone know?

And then after hitting three dud's, I swung by the Restore, and found these:

A handful of D-I sockets, one Wright, a Trutest 8pt, and an unmarked but clearly Snap-on spinner.

nice padlock!

I thought you might like it, Jeff. The key was separated from the lock when I found it. I found the key in a bag of six big key rings in another part of the sale. The key was bent to the point it would not go more than halfway into the lock. Besides being bent up, the key has had some damage you can see in the second photo. It may have run afoul of a grinder or garbage disposal. Who knows? A little hammer work straightened it out and it fits well. You have to jiggle it a bit to start but once it gets into position it is very smooth.

I know the bracket is for the end of a chain, but to what purpose was a chain put? Also, there's one of these on epray now for $75--are swabbies that nostalgic for their old locks?

Empty Makita and Bosch cases, I just liked the crisp graphics, as well as the cool look of the Millers Falls drill. Can’t pass up a Collins hatchet head. Don’t need another adjustible wrench, but the design and super tight tolerances of the Stanley 87-792 persuaded me. Great industrial design on these items.

Plus who could resist the Drum O’ Tools?!?! My 7 year old will love the nesting handles.

Nice find.

The Duro Universal set is complete (7/16-3/4)...[ ]...The Duro Imperial set is only short... well, a lot.
I really like the decals on the Duro sets.
They're "Doggone Good"!

I've got a whole thread on this topic...:
You have a "Bubba Strikes Again!" thread? :)

/// BREAK ///

My Thursday flea market haul (Lugz 2021_23) is in Pic 1. A Tower Garage playset (hand-crank elevator in the back...), a Stanley No. 904 tools chest, a c. 1881 Colt patent adjustable clamp, and a pair of vise grips, including a Whale brand I had never heard of before.

My haul from this morning's flea market (Lugz 2021_24) is in Pic 2. Snap ring pliers for the Waldes Truarc collection, an "S" wrench for the Singer collection, a Plomb electrical wrench, a DOE wrench set clip (guessing/hoping Bridgeport), and a malleable iron bung wrench from Chicago Metal Specialty Mfg Co. That's a moneymaker for me. I sell them to an antique shop who has a few customers who like them as oddball objets d'art for their mantles.

Outlaw, here you go:

It will need a little cleanup work, but I am about to do a little upholstery job and will try it out. It is still magnatized, so it should work nice.

Hey Jeff,
What do you think the vintage of the nice US Navy lock with key is? WW2?
-Don

that is probably accurate!

Does the code stamped on the lock and key help date it or is that just to match the two together? It's GE 2954.

Few items picked up earlier today20210410_155021.jpg
Moore and wright radius gauge, imperial sized though.
Hazet double ring spanner
Homemade? Center finder (thing?) Not sure on correct nomenclature
And lastly a black smithing tool, again not certain on this, is it just a punch? Made by vaughan's of Dudley (outside of Berminghan) England.
Nothing to interesting, but quite happy to find anything these days.

Thanks Tex! I love it when I find a complete set of something that has been well taken care of! Especially when it has been lightly used and not subjected to a shaky handed engraver or grinder...
