I decided to head out for a bit this morning before the heat came. I found a couple of sales online that looked interesting, so off I went.

51272599561_112d5d246e_h.jpg
The first stop listed tools but didn't have much. They did, however, have a $.25 box, which produced these:
an Irwin cabinet tip, Thorsen combo, beehive handle driver, and a Stanley 1299.

The next stop was a moving sale, and they informed me as I walked up that they were moving overseas and everything HAD to go. So, for $7 I ended up with this:
51271853937_3e6278c299_h.jpg
It is obviously been repainted (John Deere, anyone?) but the metal is quite straight and only missing the front panel. I might repaint this one, and use the front panel of the beater I already have. Some of the tool highlights:
51273328789_020de023b6_h.jpg
A West German folding grip driver, welding wrench, Archemidian drill, Streamline locking tape measure, small USA model makers plane, driver to be used reblading the previously found beehive driver, Goodell Pratt push drill, and a pair of offset drivers.

But the real treasure in the box was this:
51273395634_afc82ca7cb_h.jpg
A Cadillac SOE wrench.

The rest of the stops were duds.

Barcelona? They were saying the tools went fast. I should have gone there first. Even at 1130 I was surprised these were still there.
One other sale had a vise “not for sale”, a Craftsman with the Chevron, they thought too hard to remove, 2 carriage bolts. But everything else was really high, so I didn’t push harder.

BTW, you moving some vises on CL? Couple of nice pieces there.

Yes, I got the vise on Barcelona. You must have gotten there right after me. The estate sale on Grand Teton had a few interesting items, but their prices were ridiculous.

I don't have any vises for sale right now---still accumulating projects, much to my wife's ire.

Until now,I have been down in Florida during the garage sale season. But I came up to Pennsylvania this week. Towards the end of the selling day, around 1:30 pm, I stopped at an estate sale in New Jersey. Surprisingly, the small work area in a back corner of the garage had not been looked through much. Williams and Utica adjustable wrenches, engineer wrenches, Perfect Handle style wrench, chisels, nice wood and brass no name square, a 1959 Snap on L-710 1/2" ratchet (not shown), Williams ratchet 1/2", Stanley cordless drill, several Williams and Snap-On sockets, a Stihl 009L, needs chain, and a Littletown #400 vise. On Friday I came across the Walden Spin-tite set, a 7/16 Bonney wrench, and my first King ****, albeit small....;-)

Nice finds there. What is the largest size on the Spintites? That one looks a little different. I have been looking for an 11/16"s but am not sure they ever made a wood-handled one.

Sweet find on the S-K box! I found a Goodell-Pratt Automatic Drill #1 myself this week. Good(ell) things come in threes, so we'll see if someone else comes up with one. I think your tip indicates it's older than mine.

I met up with a few members yesterday at a local swap meet held on the grounds of a living history museum.... Met up with Provincial, Bmw and Oregon Rock Crusher....We hit it pretty early because the temp of the day was projected to be around 100 degrees so we all met at 6am. I didn't mind to much because it meant we got first pick of everything :) It was pretty good day of picking... I started off by purchasing a Craftsman Heritage 10 drawer top chest..while missing the lid (which I have a spare) it still is a really good shape and will get a new lid welded onto it! For the paltry sum that bmw asked for it, I am way excited to get this one back in use.
Back to the picking, we entered the gates and headed into the back of the event to work our way back to the front! It was a good time...the one brand that carried the day was Proto/Plvmb by far and who was I to complain! Highlights include a rough Proto LA tool board that covers combo wrenches and some long pattern wrenches. (no I didn't pay sticker price ) Also picked up a Plomb Valve spring compressor, which I have wanted forever, but have never actually seen in the wild. Also picked a 1956 Proto LA catalog and some dual mark wrenches. After the swap I headed over to Provincial's place to check out his amazing set up and to do some horse trading! Heck of a shop he has with some cool cars, lots of cool machines and a really nice setting.

Here is my haul for the day. Stopped at 6 garage / estate sales, got a late start due to having to walk the dogs before the heat got bad. Probably hit these in the wrong order, as the last estate sale had the best stuff, but was hardest to get to. Here it is, left to right. #20 (1-1/4") ships auger, heavy duty appliance power cord, 3-1 motor oil, clawed hewing hatchet, MacBeath box with 2 no name x-Acto knives, 3 tiny screwdrivers, Champion S wrench S01, Braunsdorf Mueller 8" wrench, Lubriplate tube NIB, Swedish Eskilstuna pliers, Barcalo Buffalo pliers, Irwin modified screwdriver, made in USA hex ratchet, 10" made in USA hex bar, None Better 5/8 3/4" stamped wrench with square hole.

PXL_20210626_211911568-XL.jpg

I also grabbed this pair of cheap parts boxes, really rusty, but tolerably made. Rodes Stamping LA is the maker. You can see the rust that is the norm around here. Will get a quick sanding and spray bomb, at least on the shell.

PXL_20210626_213212869-X4.jpg

The prize was a 12" Union combination square, with scriber and working level, also the most expensive, but diluted down by other items which came cheap.
PXL_20210626_232023957.NIGHT-XL.jpg

Lots of other goodies, but nothing really memorable, except a KFog blanket (for the locals).

The bold italic stuff is up for grabs if someone needs it to complete a set.
You guys down the peninsula are killing it. At least your Champion S wrench has the N frontwards.3845DF84-0311-4CC8-BA4D-FE7068BC55A4.jpeg20267726-13F8-4DA6-89E2-BD901E68FC22.jpeg

After being shut out at three sales on Friday, on Saturday we found a Tahoe sale described as the ultimate driveway sale. We were pleasantly surprised that a wide selection of tools were available and prices weren’t too bad. There was plenty of unused Craftsman tools there.

On the way home we found a TOO in the Tahoe Keys. A woman was selling off her Father’s tools. The hammer is Champion deArment

The Forum is Iffy on watched threads, (at least for me) if you do not actually visit the watched thread, the notifications "go Dormant" this is not individually, in the old format visiting the site wold get them going again. now its thread by thread. Annoying and sometimes I want to see the thread, immediately, and sometimes I'l let it go for a bit before visiting directly again.

I now keep a tab open for "watched threads" so if one does NOT email me, I'll see it on refresh, again, the forum is iffy on this. Some simply don't sent a notice, and its not clear why.

Hit a yard sale in the backwoods of Louisiana and found these 2 Dewalt nibblers. They are very strange in that they are 220 volt. Anyway, paid $7 for the pair. Did some research and new they were $750! D

The Mrs. just shook her head. Not the first time. Will show more and the rest of the haul later. Just thought you all would get a chuckle out of it

I agree on that. I decided to put one on the email thing just to see and never got an email when it was posted in. On my other Xenforo forums the admins have it set up to where when you reply to a thread you automatically are subscribed and get email notifications which I like except getting tons of emails. Yes that is how Xenforo is set up if you don’t click on a notification it won’t send another for the same thread until you view that thread again.

You Oregon guys sure did good at the swap meet!

I’m sure this is a pretty dumb question but how does everyone carry their loot around the flea/swap meet? Do you just make trips back and forth to your car? I ask because there isn’t a lot of stuff around here like that so I pretty much only shop at garage sales. There is a swap meet coming up in Spokane that I plan on going to and I want to show up prepared

I put a bucket on a hand truck. Bungy cords to secure it, and you are good. You can throw toolboxes on top and wrenches and sockets in the bucket. I see a lot of people pulling garden carts and even Red Ryder wagons too. I just make sure to leave mine a few feet away when checking out the tables and such, mainly so I don't run over people's feet.

I use to use a backpack, thinking that would slow me down, but it ends up getting so darn heavy, and then I still end up carrying toolboxes by hand.

Wow. Glad I missed that. Here’s my five dollar handful from the flea market. Sr deep, plomb 8162, proto 3718, a bunch of ignition wrenches including a Bonney with the remains of the paper label, and a ”snap on ignition point aligning tool”. I didn't know what that one was when I bought it, but it looked interesting.

Now that that  has been dealt with...

I moved up from a cloth shopping bag to a backpack to free up my hands when shopping. It has worked pretty well, and I have been avoiding using a hand cart in the hopes of keeping my buying under control. Alas, it seems to have failed! Friday I had to ask Smokeshow to haul an old SK box out to the truck.

I'm seriously considering joining the hand truck crowd. I have a steel-reinforced milk crate that I have used on my hand truck before.

I attended a swap meet in Florida a couple of years ago where the shoppers drove around in side-by-side ATV's that have cargo beds. That is serious shopping!

Hey, I use a three-wheel bicycle at the PIR swap in the spring! I put a bucket in the back wire grocery part and go riding, but that is four miles long I think?

Catfish, that SO point tool was part of a kit that also included a tool for adjusting voltage regulator points.

Bottom left of this page:

http://collectingsnapon.com/catalogs/catalogs.php?loggedin=0&catalogPage=1733

I picked up one of the VR adjusters Friday, and didn't know it was SO or what it was for, but it looked like it was for adjusting points.

Adjusting ignition point contact went away with the advent of unitized (all-in-one) point assemblies that were pre-aligned. Amazingly, factory repair manuals showed using your tool well into the 1960's!

Here are some closer pictures of the Snap-on box I picked up this morning. I have not found any identifying marks on it other than what you see. Keeping this for myself. I had to pony up 8 whole dollars for it.

Here is the rest of the small haul from today. 4 Proto Challenger DOE wrenches, a Plvmb wrench, Bonaloy DBE, SK screwdriver, Wright ratchet, Utica pliers, and a really cool tin box with a surprise in it. If anyone needs the wrenches let me know. I don’t collect those, just wanted to rescue them.

As Provincial said, that is collectible. In fact, there is someone around here who is looking for some of those, Smokeshow.

And it is way too hot here to even think about going on the hunt. Mostly because anyyone who would have a sale is huddled around their AC unit.

I’m happy to trade for stuff I need/ want. This is too much fun to worry about trying to put stuff on the auction site. I enjoy rescuing stuff others might need, and maybe I can get a trade or just build some karma. I’ve left some Barcalo stuff laying the past couple weeks, just don’t know who wants what. Still learning about everyone’s habits

I run the same setup the other guys run...I bought a hand truck from Home Depot with air filled tires... don't get the ones with hard tires, they are tougher to pull around. I take a 5 gallon home depot orange bucket and set it on the foot and use 2 ratchet straps around the framework and the bucket to secure it. This way I can put tools inside and if I find something heavy , I can set it on top and take it to the car. I too used to carry stuff around because I thought a hand cart would wear you out but it is actually less fatiguing. Plus when I am not at swaps, I take the bucket off so I can use it to move around other heavy stuff :) If I do find a box at the swap, I take it right to the vehicle and come back. Beats hauling heavy stuff by hand!

Thanks for looking out :) I do have a 5/8 standard length but could use a 5/8 Long pattern :)
