That Hammond base is cool; more literarily authentic than the repurposed treadle sewing machine base I took it to be on first sight.
At indoor venues, the first things that catch my eye are often marked NFS, then the rest are marked sky-high, which might as well be NFS.

Hey Beemer, was the swap that you and Smokeshow went to the one at the Clark County Fairgrounds? Wanted to drive down to that but had kid duty this weekend.
I thought you were further north? Next year, let's meet up at a swap, it's always fun to pick with other people, and have younger guys carry my finds!

Yeah, and the show yesterday was no exception. Saw a nice, wooden case Erector set, but that dealer wasn't ever cheap, so I didn't bother to ask. Mostly, it's just fun to walk around and talk to Smokeshow and do a little dreaming. Maybe if I hadn't just finished Xmas shopping for my wife I would have felt better dropping a bit of money, but that's the breaks.

Ha, you are correct in that I'm probably too far north (Seattle) to drive down there for a one day sale, but I don't mind spending time in the car and I spend a lot of time driving all over the Puget Sound region already! Would be glad to meet up for a sale sometime, although seeing all the tool boxes you buy makes me a little leery of volunteering to carry your stuff :ROFLMAO:

In the spring, there is usually a swap in Chehalis. Not a great one, but by that time everyone is ready to get out of the house. We should meet there, if only to BS for a bit. It would probably be around halfway, as I am an hour south of Portland.

Good day at the Westland Flea Market on the west side of Columbus. First time I’ve attended there. Followed one of the guys I like to buy from there this weekend now that the Delaware, Ohio flea market is closed for the season. $40 total brought home the following: brand new Klein 11 in 1, hardly used gear wrench metric socket set, hardly used Channellock 369’s, Craftsman 22mm combo, MAC thumb wheel, and Brand new Carlyle 10mm socket.

Nice! I think that's the only way 10mm sockets can be found: if they're never used...

Headed back to Jake’s this morning. Neither of the sellers I was hoping to spot were there, despite a big turnout overall.
Picked up a few so-so items, but nothing earth-shaking.
Of greater interest, but not enough to extract cash from pocket, were two leftbehinds.

I had a nice morning at the local monthly flea market. No flashy items, just some useful ones, interesting ones, and items that either caught my fancy or will be good trading stock.

Bonney 1034A DOE 5/8 x 3/4 SAE (old enough for not being marked for opening size) shield in the middle of the BONNEY name and circle CV/Chrome Vanadium markings.
Proto LA 1240 combo 1-1/4
Blackhawk 15623-8 DBE 1/2 x 9/16
Challenger 6012 combo 3/8
Vanadium Tool Co. C-12 combo 3/4
Sockets:
Powr-Kraft 1/2 dr. 12-pt. 9/16
Proto 5326 deep 1/2 dr. 12-pt. 13/16
Indestro Super 3/8 dr. 12-pt. 7/32 allen
Indestro Super 3/8 dr. 12-pt. 13/16
Japan 3/8 dr. screwdriver
Powr-Kraft 3/8 dr. extension 84W4844
A large hook for pulling/lifting. I'll use this when I throw a track on my mini-excavator
J.P, Danielson BET'R GRiP 8" adjustable. Jaw moves freely.
4" Perfect Handle screwdriver (it hasn't been sharpened or hammered on)
P&C 2918 Tappet DOE 1/2 x 9/16
A special wrench with a 13/16 12-pt. socket end and a slotted handle end
Long hanging hook.
Stanley 66-101 screwdriver
Vise Grip 10WR (these were wrapped with tape that was very old and hard. Upon removal, the jaws were revealed to be like new!)
6" Williams Superjustable
Flea 11-07-21.jpg
Everything but the hook and big Proto wrench was .50 or a dollar, and those cost me $8.00 for the pair!

Does anyone know what that special box wrench is for? It has no markings at all that I can find. It seems like the handle end would work for turning a petcock or a 1/2" shaft with 3/16" cross pin. Again, the box end is 13/16".

Have not dug into the PlieRench thread to see if that is an oddball too, or what exactly all the jaws do.

PXL_20211106_173323959-XL.jpg
Wow, RTM if the PlieRench is as nice as the case, you have a pristine copy there! I've yet to see, a case in any condition, and only have 1 extra jaw, and that's with 3 pair.
Agree with Outlaw, RTM - you’ve got a real nice kit there. Is it stamped ‘44?

I'll add my kudos, RTM. I've got one but only the one jaw. Must be the new kid on the block due to the Registered icon.

07 Nov 21-1a.jpg

My next door neighbor, on the other hand, has this nice set. The box is nicely done but there is no indication of branding or missing stickers on it so it may have been owner-made. His also has a little attachment called a V-Clip that we haven't figured out yet. It's peeking out of one of the top compartments.

07 Nov 21-1.jpg

My small haul today.

Proto 9604--Has the Registered icon and a UL listing so must be relatively "new".
Craftsman magnetic stud finder
Soft brass rotary brush (someone please give me the nomenclature for this. I've used various combinations of: soft brass rotary buffing mushroom deburring brush--and have not found anything that looks like this.)

A 1-post fly-by type guy with a big complete salesman kit in a box posted a bunch of photos last year of the tools and paperwork on the vintage board. Your mystery piece might be in there. Search 'Coolest Eifel you've never seen before' or something like that, it will come up.

I picked up two of these today, with no idea what they are. 4-pointed like a Phillips, but flat-bottomed like a spline wrench. “HEMPL?” (Hard to search without cannabis products crowding the screen.) The left side of the handle flares out.
EDIT - thanks to mikeinri for the ID. That is the trademark for HEMPEL, but I fail to see the second “E”

Quoin keys, used for printing presses. I googled "casket key hempl," and got some good hits. (They're not casket keys, that was just my first/wrong guess...)

I put up a separate discussion on this, but felt that it might also belong here. You never know what you are going to run across in somebody’s storage building or garage. I went to look at an old 16” cast iron Duro vertical band saw yesterday. It was a heavily built machine, but had several issues that I wasn’t all that enthusiastic about tackling, even at the price that he was selling it for. I was hoping it might have the wood/metal gearbox on it, but unfortunately it didn’t. The gentleman also showed me an old Craftsman belt/disc sander combo that was in decent condition, but couldn’t come up with a price for it. Then he mentioned, “I have a Burr King in one of the out buildings. Do you know what that is?” So we walked out to see it. It originally came with a 3 phase motor that he had swapped out for an ancient 1/2 hp single phase motor. When he plugged it in to run it, it ran well but made a slightly harsh sounding noise like a bearing that was starting to go bad. So we settled on a price of $75.00 and I brought it home. Once I took a closer look at it, it appears that he had positioned the shaft of the replacement motor too close to the Burr King cover, and it was rubbing. You couldn’t see that at first because that area was covered by the belt guard. Apparently these machines are highly regarded.

Those are very old tools. They're used for working with Printing/Typesetting/Letterpress equipment. The multi-spline ends are used as a Pinion to adjust a Racks, to keep the Type snug in it's frame.

Knowing what they are now, I can’t recall if there were any wedges. I wouldn’t have recognized them before this. The gentleman had a bewildering number of unrelated household items, many missing parts. I also bought a Pyrex measuring cup and considered two line levels and a heavy made in China stainless kitchen knife.

Was holding an identical set to this in my hands today. Looked as new. It was my FIL's. They recently moved, so we sold off, or handed off, nearly all of his tools. Williams, Craftsman, etc. Because they've moved into an apartment, he doesn't need much and I'm 10 minutes away. But this set, he did keep, along with an SK 1/4" ratchet set, as well as various plumbing and electrical tools.

OK, time to catch up.
Saturday I went to an estate sale run by a company which advertised tools, but had mostly non-tool pictures, picture of MBC chest (which attracted my attention) with craftsman bottom, few woodworking tools.
I arrived probably within 20 minutes of the beginning (who knows what was gone by this time). Prices were not spectacular - some large Craftsman combination wrenches 5 for $20, similar for 4 or 5 large craftsman DOE (marked),small sipped bags of sockets with a lot of taiwan for 8-10$
Well, going through the things I found the New Britain NB54 ratchet in the pile. Not smooth, but not stuck and quite dirty. We settled on $2 since it was not Craftsman or fancy brand.
While I was going through other tools (plenty of taiwan, expensive craftsman, some fleet sockets, Xcelite drivers), the company seller hearing that I am interested in older, possibly rusty and random tools told me to look in a box under the table where they threw everything random which they did not put into sets and did not even put on topNov6_1.jpgNov6_2.jpgNov6_3.jpgNov6_4.jpg. Well, 21$ for the rest of this list:

... Well, I usually attend sales when I go to work...
I decided to go to a sale today which I attended yesterday as they promised 1/2 price and I thought about looking at those large craftsman wrenches and may be picking the ones without owners name on them
Got there late as family wanted to spend some time together before I leave for work and it was a wonderful sunny morning
Wrenches were gone. The MCB chest (which I did not want to buy for $70 the day before) was gone as well.
This is what I picked up today
SK 40954 driver
SK 3/8 drive socket, 3/8- they allowed me to open plastic bag of mostly taiwan sockets and pick this one which I saw on the side
Underline Husky driver (older logo type)
Bonney CL3 clutch head driver
Bridgeport driver (not sure what it's for - please let me know if you have an idea)
MAC LF 6 small ?prier bar - let me know if you know what is this bent tool...
Blackhawk 34984 extension (3/8 drive)
Upland 3/4-5/8 tappet wrench
Fleet flex extension
Jack young creaper
some free hardware from free table
Jack Young creaper
I noticed a broken car in the trash bag. Opened the side of the bag and found another part, then another... Took it as it was free. I wish I noticed that it was missing another chair (noticed after I came back from work). Plastic model of 1966 Thunderbird... Not sure if I should come back and look for this trash bag - people might send me to psych hospital....
Little pipe cutter was right next to the car

$2

...Sorry that I am still keeping my September 26 unpublished - want to make pictures once I derust and clean the things... Just too many...Nov7_1.jpgNov7_2.jpgNov7_3.jpgNov7_4.jpgNov7_5.jpg

Thanks for the vector, Lugz! A lot of interesting info there. LS mentions the V-Clip part in relationship to the tube cutter, but there is no indication that I can find on its intended purpose.

The v-clip part of the Eifel fits on the stationary jaw to support tubing while using the tubing cutting jaw. I'm pretty sure it is shown in one of the brochures or instructions, but I can't find mine at the moment (too much stuff still packed up for moving).IMG_20190319_072110210.jpg

The New Britain’s are fairly easy. There’s one little spring you have to be careful with. I’ll see if I can find the video. The 2 I’ve done, I just hosed out with brake parts cleaner, wiped down, and used a small pick and hook set and brass wire brush to clean. Then super lube and assemble. One I had was not working, cleaned and found spring not hooked properly and then good to go. I might have messed up the spring on I initial cleaning or first time reassembly. The video straightened me out.

GreenIron Very nice find on the smoothing plane. Looks like a Stanley and rosewood knob & tote to boot for $35! Great find! I'm not sure how many uses you'll get out of the "extra" cutter though. ;0)

RTM That the shortest plane iron I've ever seen.

That's the Ted Bundy T-bird model . He took out the front passenger seat on his VW bug to help push his victims into his car.

Your K.R. Wilson (no other assemblage of letters other than F, O, R, and D spells FORD more than K.R. Wilson...) wrench is missing the box end on the other side. Looks like someone lopped it off. The ring probably split and they turned it into an offset single box end. They are very interesting and unusual with that extra kink in the shank. In fact, we had a discussion about them on the K.R. Wilson thread. Someone posted one there. You should add your 3/4 wrench. :)

I do not recognize that number. Which wrench is it? A few of the aircraft companies used AT (Fairchild, Merlin, others) because USAAF did, but not typically prefixed with a "W" as far as I know.

This is actually a very intriguing find, because your others, if I recall are a U.S.A. period and wartime. So yeah, I suspect earlier than those. LA period.

This is the wrench with the W number. I saw the numbers and thought of the others Ive found in the past that we have talked about so I grabbed it incase you may want it.

The LA marking on the hammer is pretty cool! I do have an actual 1 oz Plomb LA hammer I need to check and see if it also has the LA marking. Ill do that after work. Edit: I checked my 1 oz Paschall hammer with the black painted handle and Los Angeles stamped on the handke. It DOES NOT have the LA marking.

Ill post the KR Wilson stuff I have in that thread later as well. I have also found a ignition points gauge and a steering wheel puller both KR WilsonmPXL_20211108_013047998~01.jpg

Maybe that marking indicates 5/32 Whitworth and it is a wrench in the bottom left area of this toolset. Snapmom would know for sure.

Ragtop, I have found a use for your Whitworth wrench:

The 5⁄32 in Whitworth threads have been the standard Meccano thread for many years and it is still the thread in use by the French Meccano Company.

I tried to find out the size of the opening on that 5/32W spanner. No one seems to list 5/32 as a Whitworth size, and the thread charts jump from 1/8W to 3/16W. I finally found a formula for calculating across-flats size for small Whitworth fasteners, and it comes out to .391", so about 10MM. So that is where all the missing 10MM spanners went!
