Went to the first sale I'd been to in many moons ... what I actually wanted was already gone, but I picked up a nice little 4" vise and a couple of nearly-full cans of spray paint for $13. Anyone know whether the "ACE" is private-labeled for Ace Hardware? or..? There's also an M stamped into it in two places. The diamond shaped bosses on the dynamic jaw look familiar but I can't place it.
Probably made for ACE by one of the smaller overseas vise manufacturers.

Etsy people think its a juice press, which was my first guess
Thanks ! Don't think I would use it for juice as it is all aluminum (may cause alzheimer's disease). Maybe I'll sell it to someone who wants to use it as a decoration (or in a survival situation as it doesn't require electricity).

I thought science debunked that years ago.

BFBOB,
If you check the sticky to get to the main GJ vise thread, those guys seem to know everything.
I revisited yesterdays estate sale for todays discounted prices. I found all of the tools I passed on in a box plus I found a few sockets I missed yesterday.

I've got his brother around here somewhere.

Braces are kind of addicting when they are cheap, huh? I think I stopped at a dozen for a few years, and then another one snuck in in a box lot.

Last bit of Sunday haul. Should have walked. Instead, I got boned. Gonna have to get wise or I’m gonna go broke playing this game.

Well this popped up on Craigslist yesterday so I had to run grab it. Missing it's casters, both side handles and the front cover but for $40 I was certainly not going to argue! It has the missing handle in a drawer. This is the first one I have ever seen in person. Interesting to note it has an 11/66 date stamped into the front edge just like Waterloo did with the craftsman boxes they were making at this same time. This further solidifies my theory that Waterloo made these in my opinion. I would love to find a 7 drawer wrinkle finish version some day but in the mean time, this will do! And yes I paid full asking price😂

The day’s haul:
Little rusty, little dirty, partial 1/2” Kobalt SAE and metric socket sets, the Williams made version. I like those. Seller‘s bin was marked $1 and I was ready to pay $1 each. I asked if that was his price. He goes “I wish!” He charged me $6 for the Kobalt pile plus two others.

Random sockets of the day are TRW, Plomb, S-K, Snap-On+ ext., Stanley (Mac) +ext., Mac, a d Husky spinner.

Utica ignition plier.

Ratchets are Matador Germany (no plug) 1/2 , Vulcan 3/8, Thorsen 3/8, and Duro-Chrome reefer.

Wrenches are Snap-On BP 12” adjustable, Snap-On, Armstrong, Bluebrass, Bonney, Mac, and Craftsman 6 incher.

Also, a couple of mystery boxes!
Man 3bay you killed it this weekend. Especially like the Bluegrass wrench , Blackhawk socket set and of course the Vulcan ratchet (y)
Things have been pretty dead here tool wise and not to mention the snow yesterday and 20 degree temp today.......you ain't missing anything here !

Nice box Smoke. Looks like same type of construction as my Bonney, which the general consensus says made by Waterloo.
It has roller bearing slides just like Waterloo, has the date stamp on the front lower edge , both of which are present on the early red and grey craftsman rollers made by Waterloo. Plus the handles on the sides(missing on mine) are identical between both as well.

I stand corrected. I was repeating what was posted up-thread.
I will confess, as a "coastie" I have NO clue.
A member who lives in Nebraska or Kansas WILL know.
There are 287 listings currently on Ebay for "corn shucker". None of them resemble those pieces.
Most all of them use a device with a "pointy spoon" at the business end (for lack of a better way to describe it.) Not at all like the pieces in the photograph above.
From the appearance of the "glove" devices, it looks like it would be about as much fun as checking in clutch and brake shoe cores.

I hear ya on the time it takes to move your mom. I'm currently going through that myself, just preparing mom for the move from Texas to Pennsylvania next month. I'm not looking forward to the 32 hrs of driving one way.

As for the pieces, Is it a mini spit to suspend your meat of choice in the pan, and the bent ends slips over the lip of the pot/pan?

If this thread is not enough to light a fire under you to get out there, I don't what will! So many awesome finds!

I picked up a few items but what is unusual for my area is the pic with the PROTO puller. Not many sales around here that are the $.50 kind but got the puller, copper putter, brush and wrench for only $2.

Got a lifetime supply of hacksaw blades and snap-off razors.

Anybody recognize what this steel grid platform thingy is part of?
Yes it’s a lapping block , used one for 30 years lapping automatic valves on Natural Gas Pipeline Compressors .

That is a transitional plane, much despised in some circles. They make a nice user if the mouth is decent. Usually their sole is very worn, which is fixable. Usually marked on the wooden toe. Makers are usually Stanley, Sargent, Birmingham, Union, and a few others.

Here is how I fixed a few with gaping mouths, slapped a piece of ipe under it.

I've looked and can't seem to find any markings. There is some surface rust so maybe I need to de-rust it. Are they worth anything or worth any less if I clean it up. Looking to flip it. I have no use/want for it.

$20 for that Monarch has to be the take of the weekend! There’s no way not to make money on that.
That's what I figured. Any idea what it could be worth? Some research shows that it's rare but that's always open to interpretation of course. I like the look of it so I may restore and keep but everything has a price if someone comes along.

It was 60*F but overcast, threatening to rain, and windy (as in, you better watch out one of the license plates or signs whipping around doesn't hit you in the face...) at the flea this morning, so the vendors and buyers were all looking to make quick deals. A typically quirky small haul (Lugz 2022_20) includes...

20220331_094112.jpg

...a Supreme Versamatic w/instructions in box, Simonds sharpening stone in box, locking tweezers (that's a first), 4" Bernard pliers (also a first), Klein bent needle nose, another BHM Nickel-Moly DBE, a DRIVER DOE, and a very interesting DOE wrench that helps me evidence a theory I have about the mystery "M/W" markings on looksalike Frank Mossberg socket drive tools.

You may get $20-30 depending on condition. Only NOS ones seem to get much interest. I wouldn't invest much time if you plan to flip it.

Yeah, that's my other one, with a "27" forged in. This one has a "25".
I am assuming the "MW" wrench is the open-end with the square stamped in the center?
Correct. Inside the square is an M over a W with a horizontal line, like a fraction, in between. I have an extension that looks like a Mossberg extension with that same marking on it, linked here, and now this DOE wrench, that looks exactly like a Mossberg wrench. I think the M/W could signify Mossberg Wrench Company. Or something like that.

I have not seen that logo before. That "W" (or "M", if you prefer) has some very deliberate serifs, causing me to wonder if it's really "W", or were they just inverting the "M" for the sake of decoration?
Was there an M---- W---- tool company? (other than "Montgomery Ward"?)
:headscrat

edit:
When you say "looks like a Mossberg extension", you have the advantage, as I do not own any Mossberg.
On the female end of that extension, where it appears to have been peened together - those two little dimples - is that a feature found on known examples of Mossberg? (Scrolling through all of the images at AA the only thing I find with two dimples is the little extension in the attached image.)

I've gone from 'Oh fun, another GS thread guessing game!' to 'Still mildly curious' to 'I forgot all about it' to 'We're going to put you on a spit over an open fire if you don't tell us what the heck they are' in 2 weeks.

Calm down... If you make your last step "If you haven't bothered to tell us by now, I'm over it!" you'll be much less stressed.

And why the hell would you give him two MORE weeks???

What is the jaw width? And we’ll go from there.
Anyone trying to give the $20 - $30 story is full of sh*t.

We had to run out to feed the kid’s cat while they are at Disneyland so we checked out an estate sale in Danville, CA. It was put on by one of our favorite estate sale companies and the prices were very friendly.
Here is what we brought home. A3F7C516-2AE1-43C6-940B-F200B84B53D3.jpeg
