Thanks for the offer!! I'm going to try to match the era--especially the 1218 which has the the matte finish on the lower half.
OR, what sizes are the ST-1230 and ST-1218? I can take a look

Nevermind - I figured it out - 9/16 adn 15/16 - I don't ahve those except for Shiny - I do have an ST-1240? 1-1/4" if you are interested. (Edited -corrected #)

Quite a few sales Friday but really nothing jumping out at me so ended up being a dud of a day. For Saturday saw only one sale advertised that I had any hope for. Family run estate sale that mentioned tools basically in passing but no pictures of said tools but I spied a newer Mac Tech tool Box and a 60's Corvette in the corner of one photo so that set off my spidey senses. Got my **** out the door and arrived 15 minutes early for a 8:30 start and basically ended up being the first and almost only one there and was still very quiet when I finally left. My spidey senses didn't fail me. Talked to the sons and their mom had just passed and they had hauled up out of the basement all their long passed dad's tools. According to the sons they had all there own tools so dads were for sale. So I ended up with the following which strangely almost all looked to have never been used. Such a mixture of William's and Vulcan it almost seemed like stuff may have came from the tail end of the Vulcan Tool truck experiment and you got what you got in sets be it leftover Vulcan or the traditional William's.

Crappy picture of a bunch of Vulcan and William's wrenches. DOE, combo's, short combo's, DBE's, flex socket heads, etc.
Lower two rows SAE, upper two rows metric.

1/2" drive metric sockets, both Vulcan and Williams. Rails I already had.

3/8" drive metric sockets, both Vulcan and William's.

3/8" & 1/2" drive SAE sockets, both Vulcan and William's.

Knipex nippers, Snap-On and Bluepoint wrenches, Williams mini pliers, Snap-On pry bar

A few weekends ago there was a yard sale across the street and a couple more a few houses down so we threw the baby in the stroller and headed out. Only bought one thing. This light, thanks to always seeing you fellas grab them, so I could see what the fuss is about. $5

First thought is that it’s a lot heavier than I imagined. Not really sure where I will mount it as I already have Led shop lights over my workbenches but maybe I’ll find somewhere for it.

Not exactly a Garage sale, or mine, but it was a slow day at work, was cleaning up in the storage room, found a locked cabinet that my boss said had been there since he got the place. I say "f it, lets bust into it and see whats in it". Turns out it was loaded with a bunch of old 3/4" and 1" drive Williams, Snap On, Armstrong, and Proto ratchets, sockets, and clamps. Go figure that our shop is located in an old William's Foundry.

Today was ratcheting screwdriver day at the Wednesday flea....
Snap-On ratcheting screwdrivers to be exact!!! :rocker:

Orange one with no cap and an import bit - .50¢
Green one with cap and 5 bits (one import and 4 Snap-On ones) - $8.00
SORS1.jpg

Anyone got an extra orange cap laying around they don't need? 😀 (actually I'd might even consider other colors)

I was visiting an acquaintance whose Father as he is a Harley Davidson Biker. The Father is in his early eighties and the son is about 30. The father doesn't work in the shop anymore but the son does. The father's garage was once a shop and he once owned another shop elsewhere. His son decided to discard the HD hardware and parts that's been accumulating. The son was loading Bins of parts etc onto the pick up truck to take to the scraper when I arrived. I saw a bin with these tools in it and asked him if I could have it, he said sure. He said all his stuff is cordless and he has no use for them. I have all this stuff except "maybe" the 1/4 Craftsman Inpact. I asked him what he drinks and he said, "Jack." If my friends want this stuff I'll give it to them and make them buy him a quart of Jack.

Got a late start today and only had one sale of interest. Mostly woodworking power tools but this card file is 24" deep and will be just the thing for storing some of my longer tools.

The pictures are after a good de-greasing which took a good bit of the spray bomb paint off. The top two drawers were a sickly shade of light green--to match the partition insert on the left. The silver under the green is pretty solid but the their bottoms are the original OD green. The bottom drawers maintained what appears an original medium gray along with the case and the partition on the right.

Tops drawers are embossed with: Steel Storage File Co., Wooster, Ohio
The bottoms say: Record Files Co., Wooster Ohio

Too many similarities between the two brands for me to believe that they aren't the same company--but can't find proof.

The Dico 80 grit Nyalox wheel and the Indestro Super socket were in the drawers. $20 for the lot.

I also picked up a sweet little tool set that may make an appearance later this year!

My daughter lives in Wooster. I'll see if she has a historical society link.

I will have to check the Garage Sale bylaws, but I am pretty sure posting in this thread is applicable to any deals you get on second hand items, so I am going to post these latest pickups.

The company I work for is expanding, and with that, we have moved from a small building into a much larger building. Well with the move comes the throw away items, or the items that we don't need and don't want to bother moving. I have a pretty good track record (mostly because I know all the right connections) at my company for getting some killer items before they make it into the scrap bin. And these are no exception.

First up is a just a lowly bottle jack, but only used one time.
20220617_164945.jpg
Second is a 1"x24"x24" steel plate that will become a base for a vise when I find just the right one.
20220617_161633.jpg
Third is a brand new, never used tubing saw. This thing would be awesome for a plumber as it cuts through copper tubing like a champ. It also came with cutters for harder materials. I know these things are not common as I was the one to buy it for a project at work that never materialized.

Rems Pipe Cutter.
20220617_165711.jpg
And lastly, another item from a project that changed course and was never used. It sat packed away since it was bought and not even opened until I got it home.

An Evenheat oven/kiln. This thing will get up to 2350 degrees, so its a beast. It will work well for heat treating knives or melting lead, or copper, or firing ceramics, or who knows what.

I picked up this Proto box at a live auction last Saturday. Paid $200 for the box and all the tools. There were some misc. other stuff but not worth a photo.

I too easily wowed a flea-market-only type buddy today by identifying the two unmistakably Herbrand (they loved the color blue for their driver and socket wrench handles and informally owned it in the industry) VAN-CHROME cross-recess screwdrivers, a #1 and a #3, before taking them out of the bucket they were in, and looked all over in dozens of other buckets for a #2 and a more contiguous set, but no dice. The dirty black 1-foot slot head is an early Snap-on Octo-Grip. And I am hoping the Roaring 20's Special-K Kraeuter DOE wrench is one I need for my collection. If not, they are uncommon enough that someone else who may be working on a collection may need it. (Lugz 2022_33)

From the LEFT-BEHIND photo folder..., in Pic 1 - an antique scale (too expensive), Pic 2 - as a lark for @d42jeep, a badly-mushroomed pry that was obviously used as a chisel, and may make me change my customary "BARC-BUFF" abbreviation for BARCALO-BUFFALO to "BARC-BU" (permanently ruined), and Pic 3 - for our founder, @jeffmoss26, a mess of antique keys.

A few finds from last weekend:

The Stevens 1/4" set came from a CL listing for $10 and the Husky USA metric ratcheting wrenches were picked up from a garage sale for $5 along with 3 or 4 socket rails and a few Taiwan ratcheting wrenches that are in the goodwill pile. Anyone know if this vintage of Stevens Walden set should have a ratchet?

IMG_4148.jpg

I picked these out of a chest full of big box store junk, not the best deal at $5 but I couldn't help myself. Blue Point DOE, Challenger DOE, a couple Husky USA combos, little SK combo, and the two euro wrenches are Unior and Gedore I think, or something like that.
IMG_4149.jpg

These are my flea market pickups, love having a decent regular flea market! There's the obligatory brass nozzle for Outlaw, the big combo is a Proto LA pebble, socket is a 3/4" drive Plomb. I don't usually buy Barcalo stuff these days but I like the throat on this version of DBE. Then there are a bunch of SK and SK Wayne combos, a couple little P&C DOEs, a newer Proto 1/4" rat, Billings combo, and a poorly stamped Cornwell DOE. Finally on the left, the little breaker and rat are Walden, and I grabbed the Western Giant 1/4" & 3/8" double sided rat just because I thought it was interesting. I can't remember how much I'm in all this for, probably around 20 bucks.

Thanks Don, yes this set is definitely cad plated. It looks very much like the top set you posted. Thanks as usual for the helpful info!

Hit a vintage “home decor “ type sale with my wife and scored these 2 items for $9. The Kennedy is lightly used and in good shape- kk18. The camel tube repair kit is marked from 11-62.

On Thursday, I hit two sales, and three Restores. Only one sale was good, but both were re-do's from last year. Odd, but there you go.

From the good sale:
52202902400_2eca4d7fbf_c.jpg
Two old woodies, a panel meter, Star Trek ratchet, an Indestro socket set, all of that in a Select Steel tool box.
52202904070_6a921dc5ff_c.jpg
Plomb 6539 Ford V8 valve lifter, and
52203206336_4209919644_c.jpg
a Craftsman dial runout set. I also picked up some books:
52202544804_979d2db9f1_c.jpg
All of that cost $20.

From the Restores:
52202430368_6105900c76_c.jpg
The first Restore had these two nice saws, the shiny one is a Disston D-8 and very small, while the rusty looking one has split nuts.
The other Restore had all of this:
52202401701_937e6d82d8_c.jpg
Penncraft socket set, Goodell Pratt level and Snap-on suspension tool. $21 from both stores.

Still going through the box of stuff I got at the flea market a couple of weeks ago.

I honestly don't know much about the tools other than the research I do here when I pull it out of the box.

I will tell you this... nearly everything is SAE/fractional (which I knew when buying). But everything I work on is metric so I get excited when I pull something metric out of the box.

I mean how many 9/16 1/2 DOE wrenches does one man need? lol

Anywho...

Here's a cool Honda Motor Co motorcycle wrench and a Prest-O-Weld Oxy Acetylene Tank Wrench/Multitool.
